[Q] Gallary - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The gallary app on my S4 Mini is "misbehaving" when I open it, it takes a very long time to start responding and even when it does it is really slow. I have done a factory reset and cleared out all the photos and videos form my system. With only having 5 photos it is still almost unusable.
I have done a factory reset (Didn't make a difference) and also cleared cache and data
Also when looking at the app info my phone reports it is using 1.6GB of space (even when there is virtually no content on my phone) I always store my photos and videos on the external SD card.
I have seem other people reporting similar issue on other sites with no responses. Any advice?

Gallery no longer displaying any photos

So my gallery randomly chose to no longer display any photos from my storage. The only photos it shoes are the ones that sync from Google+.
I've tried all the typical wipe cache, data, etc but to no avail.
I also noticed that when I connect my phone to my pc via usb nothing shows up in the "internal storage" but if I use any file explorers (i.e. Root Explorer) on my phone everything shows up like normal.
Any ideas?
Seraching through internet about the same problem I've found solution:
Remove battery for 1 minute, and all photos will be back (at least in my case went back)....
I have no clue why is this happening, but I'll try to find out.

[Q] very slow memory calculations

I had some issues with the Google Play recently, so I followed the help-page advice to clear the 'cache' and 'data' from the market and downloader apps.
The issue is that upon entering one of the app's screens within settings/apps/all, it took about 5 minutes for it to calculate the file sizes/allocations. I can remember this taking seconds on my Desire.
Is this slow calculation of memory use etc. an issue with anyone else's phone or is it just mine?
i think i have the same issue i am running LeeDrOid at the moment perviously Android Revolution HD and i had a similar / same issue i think when you actually click on the app its self as in to remove or clear cache / data it takes ages to populate the sizes also when i have tried to remove some apps some installed from backup or play store and it just hangs in the uninstalling screen and never removes
Quite wiered but very frustrating

[Q] Photos app...weirdness

Originally posted this over at AC....but with 200 views and no responses, maybe it's better here at XDA.
Having a weird one with the Photos app. Photos that are deleted, keep re-populating after a couple of hours. It's over 200 images...
HTC One M8, rooted, SuperSU'd, and then flashed with TWRP to the standard Google Play Edition of KK 4.4.2 (that supposedly keeps OTA updates). I do have a 32gig SD card installed (technically I didn't format the SD card in the phone, just installed it and it was recognized and started working). The SD card does have a few apps and other data (music) on it.
Photos app on the M8 is NOT signed into my Google account (verified in the Photos app settings section). Looking at the Photos app on Google via my computer browser, these images do NOT show up (deleted, and emptied trash a couple days ago).
These images are not part of my Google Drive.
It almost seems like the Photos app thinks it is deleting the images, but a permissions issues keeps it from happening (even though the Photos app image view thinks it does).
Which kind of seems like what is going on, but I don't know how to solve if that's what it is. I had also installed Pixlr Express and Camera ZOOM a couple weeks ago. I've since deleted these two apps, but their subdirectory remnants remain...
Any ideas on this?
TIA.

Hey There,
I read this somewhere, that the 4.4.2 Android has issues deleting stuff -obviously pictures in this case- from the SDcard..
They will correct it with 4.4.3. ... or you have the chance to install a custom rom..it is prolly fixed there

anyone having an issue with Google photos?

I can't get Google photos to back up any of my pics or videos. I have it set up appropriately (never had a problem on any other device including my op5) but on the option it just says "getting photos" but that's it.
It won't even back up my photos if in try to do it manually
The only issue I have with Google Photos, on any device, is how janky and terrible the pinch to zoom is. I doubt Google even tests any of their apps anymore.
That's why I'll never use it as the main Gallery or to show off Photos. It's embarrassing.
As far as backing up, that seems to be working ok for me. As long as it's Sync'd under Account Settings, it's usually fine.

Had the same issue when I changed to OP5T.
It would sit at "getting photos..." and not do a thing (even the network speed in status bar was 0 K/s).
I resolved it by cleaning the its data and cache in storage (Settings>Apps>Application List>Photos>Storage>Clear Data) and go through the setup process again.
Hope it resolves your issue also.

Hey thanks that worked. I originally tried disabling and enabling it (that used to clear all data) but apparently not anymore. Clearing data for the app worked perfectly. Thank you

Wrong Thumbnails

Hi, i am facing very weird problem.
Recently 2 weeks back i reset my phone and then set it up and copied back my data to phone. But from Past few days i am facing weird issue.
Whenever i download any picture. It's thumbnail show correctly in gallery. But while uploading on whatsapo, facebook, insta or telegram or any other app, it shows wrong thumbnail. When i click on that, it changes to correct photo, but thumbnail still shows incorrect.
This happens to most of the apps.
I already deleted thumbnail cache but still the same.
Interesting thing is that, it is showing thumbnails of the deleted photos which i downloaded previously from facebook.
Please don't recommend to reset my phone again.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Try clearing the app cache for Gallery. If that doesn't work clear app data for Gallery (don't worry, it won't delete any photos or videos).
Settings - > Apps - > Samsung Gallery -> Storage
