It is very easy, just use Rootzenfone1.4.6r.apk to root it! Disable Wifi, Bluetooth and turn on Airplane mode.

Rootzenfone.apk doesnt work with Lollipop. Have to use temporary cwm.

what version of firmware do you have?
I've got a new tablet Asus Fonepad 7 FE375CXG.I am not sure how to root it.Suggestions? Bonus question: ,would it be safe to flash this: lollipop-roms[dot]org/mp3-0/asus-fonepad-7-2014-6394[dot]html .Also, I guess I would need a custom recovery.Where I can find one? How to flash it?
After searching almost 2 months i have found a rooting process for Asus fonepad 7 FE171CG (k01n) lollipop & it worked for me.

This link is for rooting zenfone 4 but it worked for my fonepad 7 as well.
