How Do I Install Addons On Kodi ? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,I need help please.
How do I install an addon ?
I have added some to my usb stick ,put it in the back of the fire tv box, gone to settings/addon/add from zip file, then navigated to the usb stick but it shows nothing...
What path do I need to navigate to to install addons ? or is it not possible ?
Hope someone can help me.

Have you installed StickMount for the FTV to see your USB? Or a more pertinent question, is your FTV rooted?
What addon are you trying to install?

This is very easy.. And there are tons of how to vid's on YouTube...
This is one of the best how to's...
https://www.youtube.com/user/vdubt25/videos - This are all his how to videos..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vx4Zfv6BYw - This one tells you how to install one from a .zip file
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAO6CUCC_a0 - This one tells you how to install repositories & how to find channels in said repositories...
Also the easiest non manual way is to either install TVMC or to use the TVAddon's installation options... All found here: http://tvaddons.ag/

No,my fire tv is not rooted and I have not installed stickmount, does the fire tv have to be rooted to install addons ?
There are a few I would like to add, this is just one of them..

You don't need to be rooted.. But I think you would need to be rooted or use stickmount to use a usb stick for the addons you have to manually load like the Digitele Sports..
But you can sideload the file(s) to SDCard/Download using the AFTV Utility app so you don't need to use a USB stick & delete the files with a File Explorer app later...

Excellent,that worked.. thanks
Also thanks Y314K ,those vids are handy.

Is there any other way of installing a repository to Kodi on a unrooted AFTV ?
AFTV Utility app is no longer working for me...

Go into Kodi then System/File Manager (if you are using the default Confluence skin, then File Manager is below System), choose Add Source, then on the <None> box hit enter and type "http:" then "//" then "srp.nu" without quotes and choose Done, then go down and give it a name, then choose OK. This installs the SuperRepo repository.
I had to post the address strangely because the forum says I'm too new to post a link.

I already have SuperRepo but it doesn't have the addon I want,I can download the Repo I want, but need a way of installing it on Kodi.

The put the zips in a folder on a PC, share that folder, and go to System/File Manager/Add Source/Browse and choose Windows share (SMB), then navigate to the PC and shared folder.

When I navigate to my pc,it just puts up a 'Locked Preferences' page where I need to put in a name and pw.. it wont let me go to my folder which I have shared.

Sorry, I've never seen that. I have a Windows 7 PC with shared folders that I need to put in my username and password to access, but it's available and just works.
Only other thing I could suggest is uploading the zips to Dropbox, then downloading them to the FireTV and using Addons/Install from zip to navigate the Downloads folder.

Thanks, just found a program that will do it

Hi all, i have a loaded fire stick. Today when i switched it on its defaulted to the confluence skin and there is no longer all the sub menus and add ons to click on. They are all still installed as found a list of them all. How do i add folders and links? Thanks all

I am having issues with my firestick I'm on 5.2.1.1 I factory restored it and having issues with repositories. I installed exodus in beginning I had a lot of addons to choose from then after I exited and go to get more plugins it's blank and says exodus incompatible

Please help I have uploaded kodi to my firestick and put exodus on it but when I go into watch anything it's saying error check the log for more information ??

[Q] KFU Brick? Step by step what I have tried

Here are the step by step things I have done. (I apologize in advance for mispelled words or wrong versions)
- My computer is operating windows vista. I used Kindle Fire Utility to root Kindle Fire on 6.2.2
- When 6.3.1 came out I upgraded KFU to 0.9.6
- I re-rooted and installed TWRP and FFF as wells as Go Launcher
- I then decided I wanted a stock Kindle Fire
- I did master reset under the options menu on the kindle. That took out Go Launcher. I was trying to unroot with out researching , so I thought if I went under TWRP and did a factory reset that would take care of it. (No need to yell for not researching, wife has done that)
- Now I’m locked at the white/orange kindle fire screen
- I still get the blue/white kindle fire screen to show up with v 1.4a in top right corner.
- I’ve tried normal/recovery boot, no luck there.
- I’ve tried holding power button 10-30 seconds several times, no go there
- Under device manager the kindle is listed as android phone and adb composite device (?) Not sure that’s the exact wordage but it’s the one with composite in it.
- KFU shows offline, unknown root status.
- While stuck at the white/orange screen I am not able to acces the Kindle Fire sd card
- If I go into TWRP I am able to mount the SD card and access on the computer
- I downloaded 6.3.1 from Amazon. Changed it to a zip file and put it on the sd card.
- I wiped cache and delvack (spelling?)
- When I try installing 6.3.1 zip in TWRP I get an error message.
- Do I need to wait for another amazon update?
- What else can I try?
- If I need to do line commands, please make it as basic is possible. I have read the beginners postings form kinfauns. Postings 1 & 2 made complete sense. Posting 3 went over my head.
- Command lines I have tried “adb devices” no devices are listed (it’s blank). “fastboot devices” nothing happens, “fastboot device” gives a lot of command options. Not sure where to go from there.
Sounds like your system software is broken if a factory reset in TWRP won't get it to boot normally.
What's the name of the zip file before you copy it over to the /sdcard? When you look at it with the Windows explorer, the file icon should look like a folder with a zipper down the middle of it. If it doesn't have that, you haven't changed the name of the file properly and the file suffix is wrong. Do a google search on changing the file suffix on Windows for info.
What's the error when you install the zip file?

I downloaded the 6.3.1 file from Amazon's site. It had a long file name so I changed it to update. It has .bin followed behind it. I then right clicked on it, send to, compressed zipped folder. It does have the zipper folder.
I had the mount mode enabled through TWRP and copied it to the sd card and put it under the TWRP FOLDER.
Went back to the main menu in TWRP, install. Found the update file, started install. Started to install then stops. Can't remember wordage exactly, kindle is at home right now, but there's red letters that say error.
If I were you, I would install android sdk from google. then, use the sdk to install android tools and android platform tools. Make sure you installed to android sdk to the root file. Use twrp to reboot into bootloader. Plug in the kindle to usb. Then type this in (command prompt):
cd..
cd..
cd root
cd android-sdk
cd platform-tools
fastboot shell
reboot
Give that a try and tell me if it works.

I assume the first 2 "cd.." are to get me to the correct folders where android sdk is installed?

I think you had the .bin and then compressed it to. Zip that made it compressed it twice
You should
Download the kindle update
Open it up in notepad or something
Do save as
Save as update.zip
Then move it to sdcard/
Then flash in TWRP
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
if you find something I posted helpful please thank me

I did initially try just the .bin file without the .zip, but I couldn't find it. Once as a .zip file I could find it.
I downloaded 6.3.1 from Amazon's site again. I tried opening in notepad, but it locks up. Tried wordpad, my save as options: rich text format (rtf), text document, text document-ms-dos format, Unicode text document. Don't see anything for .zip

BACK UP AND RUNNING!!!!
Tera Tike can I post the links you gave me? I have noticed others with similar issues as I have. I was going to start a new thread with the steps I took to resolve the problem.
Help
I got stuck in a nasty bootloop which Gregory was kind enough to help me out of by giving me the link to the Amazon Update. I was able to flash that and go back to stock. I then, possibly foolishly, thinking that I had lost root (did I?) ran the KFU utility which got stuck halfway through and now I am stuck on the white/orange kindle fire screen. Is there anyway to get out of this? I know, I suck. Your help and expertise is greatly appreciated.

Installing 9.6 drivers to root Kindle Fire

Hey there,
Long time lurker first time poster. Sorry I didn't post a hello thread, This forum has really helped me out with my Evo and Evo shift. I have never rooted them as I didn't have need. They served my purpose as is. Now I'm in new territory so I humbly ask you pros for help trying to root my Kindle Fire. The only reason I bought this was to turn it more into a tablet more like my phone.
I have seen and read just about everything I can find on installing the drivers and rooting this thing.
I have search here and found partial answers that end up turning into a different conversation and nothing has worked.
I'm on Win XP sp3 I am very computer savvy since I'm a software tester but I am stumped.
I set driver signing to ignore and I still get the unsigned error when trying to run install_drivers.bat.
You can't change the driver signing in the registry because it will just revert back.
When I plug it in to install it it shows up in the device manager as an Android phone with the Android Composite ADB Interface If I try and update the drivers it says the best driver is already installed.
I uninstall it and reinstall and point it to C:\Documents and Settings\Users\my profile name\KFU\Drivers\Kindle and it installs the same way as an android phone with the ADB interface below it.
Like I said. I have tried everything I have read and run.bat still shows as offline
Is the Android Composite ADB Interface mean the drivers are installed correctly?
I read one post someplace else that said if it said android phone to delete it.
Been at this for a week. Come home from work and spend hours trying over and over and there must be some bonehead thing I didn't do or a setting I didn't set correctly.
Please help
You can try a utility that I did for myself and others to root.
Basic Fire Utility[Expired]
Also goto %USERPROFILE%\.android and rename the file adb_usb.ini to adb_usb.ini.bk then rerun to driver install.
Also this should have been asked in the Kindle Fire Q&A.
Try this method:
http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/12/13/how-to-install-kindle-fire-adb-usb-driver/
.Sometimes kfu says that the boot status is unknown even though it is just fine. assuming u havnt Try one of the options and see if the fire responds.

Mods please move to the correct forum. It was a little confusing when I saw all the kindle forums.
Do you have a how to for the basic fire utility? Do I need to remove all of the KFU stuff from 9.6 first? Sorry, first root. I installed the driver and now the DM says android phone,Amazon Kindle Fire ADB Interface.
Thanks again
Since you have the drivers installed do selection 3 to install FFF 1.4a then select 4 to install TWRP 2.2.0. Selection 5 will root and put basic Google apps.
The Basic Fire Utility copies the root/ gapps flash file to your device sdcard directory then boots you into TWRP. From there you flash the file... Choose Install, scroll under folders until you see Gapps+Apps.zip file and select it then swipe the blue button to the right to flash.
Thats it. Select reboot System and you are now rooted.
Sorry I am not very good at the instruction part thats why I just kept it to myself. But If you have more questions please let me know.

I could not get this thing rooted. Tera Tike spent a lot of time walking me through it, but still nothing.
It would only boot into TWRP. He then offered to see if he could fix it for me if I sent it to him.
From all of our message interaction I didn't hesitate to send a new Kindle to a total stranger.
He had put so much time in trying to help me via messaging that I knew he was a good guy and I was right.
He fix it as soon as he got it. Had a corrupt partition. Most likely something stupid I did, and it's on it's way back ready to go.

Disclaimer.... I don't own FTV and only have a basic knowledge of xbmc.
1. You will need to download or copy the zip into FTV.
2. Go to settings-file system-add source( on phone this requires long click to bring up menu, with keyboard and mouse try hovering over it and pressing "c" on keyboard)-browse.
3. Select an option such as root files to beginb looking for zip, once you find and select it the add one should show.
Side note... Other sources install similarly except you enter an http address into box rather than selecting browse.

I don't think that's possible with Fire tv as its not rooted to install channels from zip files like that bcuz there is no way to use fire tv with usb drive with zip files loaded to manually install channels.

Just install it like you did Fusion. Go to Settings > File Manager > add source, and them enter http://srp.nu/ for the address of the SuperRepo and on the second menu "Name for this Media"whatever name you want to give to the source e.g. SuperRepo.
You can put this url in your browser to verify that the 3 repo folders are not empty.
Thanks u very much it works now !

**Request** Phone app to sideload apk's

I would donate if someone would code an app to sideload apk's from your phone. Would make it so much easier, rather than breaking out the laptop.
Thanks.
..
Yea, I've done it that way...an app with a gui would be more user friendly though. Just a thought...
If you mean any app instead of just paid apps on your phone, there is an invaluably easier way to sideload apk files.
Terminal Emulator will be needed for a few initial steps, unless you don't have unknown sources hacked to enabled which requires root.
If no root access and disabled unknown sources, you will need to use it every time.
1.Install Terminal Emulator on your Fire TV with your current sideloading method.
2.Either use the Terminal Emulator,or the same ADB method to also sideload a browser like Opera or any other browser. (will need keyboard and mouse)
3.Use the web browser to download apk files to install using Terminal Emulator. (or from a file explorer if rooted to enable unknown sources)
4 (optional).Install 1mobile,Aptoide, and/or Appchina for easier access to apps for installing normally or using Terminal Emulator.
Hope this helps, even if just a little.

This is how I send apps from phone to fire tv stick.
1. Install ES file explorer and myappsharer on phone.
2. Sideload ES file explorer on ftvs (can't see why it won't work the same on ftv)
3. Open myappsharer on phone and ES on ftv, tick the apk setting in myappsharer then select apk to share. Choose the ES option then ES send by Lan, accept the transfer on ftv.
Mobizen works on my phone & pc. I tried installing it on the FTVS but once again the remote will not let me click the needed check boxes to accept the EULA on the app. If one can get past that it should work.

Is there an official thread for this?
Easy Way.
#1 Install APk Extractor On your Phone (android phone/tablet)
#2 install google drive, configure your account
#3 extract APK , upload to GDRIVE
#4 install ES File Explorer on Fire TV/STICK
#5 install via fire tv using ES File Explorer
You can install airdroid on your phone and chrome on your fire tv. There is an option to download apps that are installed on your phone from the airdroid gui. Once that is downloaded you can navigate to the download folder to install the apk. I've been doing that lately, as I found it easier than trying to get market helper to work.

Two different apps. Nothing wrong with choice and options.

Downloading apps from fire stick

Can anyone tell me how to get the apk's from the Firetv stick?
I would like to get the Fire stick version of Directv now?
You got two very easy options...
Option 1 - ES File Explorer APK Extracting
1. Install ES File Explorer on your FTVS directly from Amazon or side-load it if you have a favorite version.
2. Open ES File Explorer & on the Homepage choose "APP". It should have a number under it showing you how many apps you have installed so far.
3. From your list of installed apps choose which ever APK you want to backup by clicking & holding the "OK/Enter" button until there is a check on that file. Add checks to any other APK's you want to backup up at the same time.
4. At the bottom of the options you should see the option "Backup". Click on it & you should see a message saying if the APK backup was successful.
5. This backups are stored @ "/sdcard/backups/apps".
6. The easiest way to get them to your PC or Mac is to go into ES File Explorer's "Network" on the left menu & "Turn On" "Remote Manager". This will give you a "ftp://" address you can visit from any browser that is on the same Wifi Network. You can even use your phones browser.
7. Navigate to the FTP's "/backups/apps/" folder & just choose which APK(s) you want to save to your device.
8. Don't forget to "Turn off" the Remote Manager on your FTV device. And you can use ES File Explorer to delete any APK you have already moved off your FTV device in "/backups/apps/" to reclaim that storage.
Option 2 - ADB APK Extracting
1. Download & unzip the Amazon Fire TV Utility App v0.66 or newer on the C:\ of your PC. It should look like C:\FTV\ .
(Amazon Fire TV Utility App v0.66 or newer can be found here: https://sites.google.com/site/amazonfiretvutilityapp/ )
2. Add your FTV's device IP to the AFTV Utility under File/Settings & wait to see that it has connected to your FTV.
3. Once connected you can use the "APK Extractor" option to view a list of all installed APK's. Then just choose which one you want to download. Click on "Extract APK" & confirm is the one you want.
4. A window will pop-up. And if there are no errors extracting the APK it will just close once completed. You should find your extracted APK's under "C:\FTV\Extracted_APK" .
Very easy to do...
Addendum: You can check/match the MD5 Hash values between the APK in your FTV(S) device with the backup file you create on your PC. Just use ES File Explorer properties to get the original files MD5 Hash values & compare them with the MD5 Hash Values you end up with the APK on your PC/Mac.
Thanks for the help. I was able to grab the app. I loaded it on my android tv. The app ran and I was able to log in, but video won't load. Live channels will not load, nor the guide guide. I can see options to play on demand stuff but none will play. I just get an error that video failed to load error 40 QP1404. I assume it is because there must be some kind of check that is failing. Does anyone know if this can be fixed?
If your trying to run it on a rooted device. Then just take a look at this:

Should do the trick.

btw, can you check on your AndroidTV if there is an app available called Opera TV Browser & what version is available. And see if our can make a backup of the latest APK. Thanks
