[Q] How do I block access to my internal memory storage ? - Desire 820 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In case if I have lost my android device, people can access to both, internal and external memory by using usb cable to connect the phone to the computer!! So, how do I block my internal storage from being accessed in the event that my phone gets lost or stolen?? I know about anti-theft tools like Cerberus and avast but that would take time as I need to get access to a computer and send a command, until then someone would have already accessed my internal data.

[Q] How do I mount internal storage from recovery mode?

I have a problem. I have been passed a HTC Wildfire S that has a big chunk missing, namely the touchy part of the screen On this phone is, apparently a photograph that I need to rescue or the world is going to end. The phone is configured to charge only when connected to a computer so I need to access the internal storage, whilst in recovery/fastboot and save the photo.
I have HTC Sync installed, the SDK too, but when I use ADB to list devices I see nothing.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction?
No data(Images, songs etc) is stored in internal memory except rom files ofcourse in Wildfire S.
Chances are the file you are looking for is in SD card already or you lost it.
There is no so called internal memory for user data. the 512 MB that comes is shared between system rom and Internal memory which is just for apps.

[Q] MTP Connection derping

Recently I had my galaxy s3 updated to cm10.1, and I'm loving the new features but I'm having some difficulties connecting the phone to the computer for file transfer. My computer does recognize the device, but when I click on it, and look in the internal storage, it shows that there are no files in there, even though there are. When I go in my file manager on my phone, there are 3 storage components: sd card (/storage/sdcard1), internal storage (/storage/emulated/0), and USB storage (storage/usbdisk0). I'm only able to access internal storage, and the rest it says "This operation requires elevated permissions. Try changing the Root Access mode." Not sure if this part is relevant, but just wanted to share. What do?

[Q] Security Lock Bypass?

I'd like to start by saying I checked but couldn't find any similar threads to this issue I've been facing with my S3. I believe it to be a global issue since samsung did away with needing drivers to mount internal and external storage on their phones to just having the device showing up as a media device to simplify the user experience.
My question is that short of encrypting the phone and SD card (for those of us who don't have any incriminating or secret information on our phones but want at least a screen-lock's level of security), is there a way to prevent your phone from automatically attaching to any computer it's plugged into via internal storage and SD? Otherwise, I don't see a point in using a screen lock. Anyone can steal this phone, plug it into a computer, and have full access to all of your files.
Again please redirect this post if a thread currently exists. Such a security hole makes me nervous, granted I am rooted and use avast's defense module to safeguard a lost phone predicament. Thank you everyone!
With PIN lock, I can't access the contents of the int/ex SD card until I unlock the phone once.
Check your phone settings again. When my phone is locked (pin/face/etc), if I were to plug it into a PC, it detects the device but does NOT allow access to internal memory or SD card.
Yeah, when I connect via usb to my computer i have to drag the notification bar down and click on mount usb. When the screen is licked obviously you can't do that until you unlock it.

I always connected my phone to my pc via usb and use "Total Commander" file manager. To connect android phones I install "TotalAndDroid" plugin and all worke perfect. Now with my new s4 I can't see the internal and sd memory via "Total Commander". What do I need to define in my galaxy s4 to use "Total Commander" as always ?

If your previous phones used versions of Android less than 4.0 (ICS), what may have happened was that your phone now supports the Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) rather than USB Mass Storage (UMS). There was a tradeoff to the move. One big one regarding Android is that MTP allows the device to remain mounted on the phone. OTOH, your phone's memory is no longer visible as a drive (that was the catch--in order for phone memory to be mounted on your computer, it had to be UNmounted on the phone). You should check your system and see if it supports MTP (most Windows systems will as the underlying technique was Microsoft's idea).
In my personal experience (I run a Linux system at home) I've found it easier to avoid the matter altogether and transfer files back and forth using an Android file manager (I've personally used ES File Explorer for years) and perhaps a Windows/SMB share.
If you MUST use your phone's SD Card as Mass Storage, there is a thread here that discusses a way to switch the SD Card to Mass Storage mode. However, it will require rooting the device.

Does someone try the adoptable storage since the last Nokia 6.1 update?

Hello,
Normally, in a perfect world, adoptable storage should allow to enhance memory thank to the sd card.
Anyone who tried to use the adoptable storage with the Nokia 6.1 encountered the problem of corrupt datas.
See
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6-2018/how-to/adoptable-storage-available-pie-update-t3873841
Does someone enough brave already try again to activate this adoptable storage?
Thanks you
yes, I retried it last week (with latest official patch applied).
I migrated > 10GB of data. Afterwards I checked 'DCIM' and 'Download'. All files got totally corrupted (looks like every byte different).
It seems that newly created files were not corrupted. (Was just a fast check with 2-3 pictures)
I migrated back and removed SD card. Files still corrupted. During the last test in ~2019 I figured out that the files some when magically got fixed again some time after migrating back. Hope this happens again this time...
Maybe it also just needs some time after migrating to reencrypt the files for the SD card?
Does anybody know more about the internal processes during and after migration?
Hi, I didn't try the above method, but I used adb commands to format the SD-Card as internal. It basically worked and I am able to run the apps that I migrated to the external card.
HOWEVER:
1. The external card and it's files are completely invisible to any file-system-apps. So I can't see the data.
2. Apps that require some kind of login never keep that login. If you close the app and start it again, you need to login again. This seems to indicated that the apps have been migrated, but are unable to actually use the external space to save new files.
Does anyone think that rooting the device would help?
Cheers,
Calon
my experience with adaptable storage was the same as krisha2k's. all migrated user data I had appeared to become corrupted, and most apps that I moved to the sd card either couldn't save any app data (game saves/logins) or even lost functionality (Snapchat friends list disappeared). some really old and ancient apps that I moved to adoptable storage kept their saves etc (ice cream jump, Neko atsume).
I also found that games with in-app downloads would save their download to the internal storage, as well as external when the app appeared to be stored on the external only.
most apps are broken because of newer android changes that protect external storage write access (and i think read too). I'm not an expert in that though. just speculation
in the end, I just did a factory reset and I've settled with using the sd card as portable storage and storing large files on there (4k video from camera etc).
its a shame because it was a spare 128GB card I had lying around, and I would have liked to have some bigger apps installed, but it doesn't matter too much. but I guess that's just how things are now.
i personally wouldn't recommend doing it. you have potentially everything to loose if you accidentally migrate all your internal data, and what seems to be absolutely nothing to gain.
