[Q] Android L Samsung Note 4 - Dissapointed - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm sorry, but I think some of you can agree with me on this. I will ask a question at the end, but for now, just... Samsung. So we hear that Android L is READY for thesince 4 but the carriers haven't decided to release it, even though the LG G3 just got the update...
Then, I hear that Samsung has the update ready and "done" for the S5 and Note 3. But no Note 4?...
And THEN I hear that Samsung is STILL working on the coding for Android L for the note 4! Best part, Samsung does not do a SINGLE thing to announce to its viewers what there doing for Android L, there just going off on there own little path doing what they want. The S6 Is coming out soon, why would update the S5 first then the note. Note users just got this phone, because it came out in October.
Honestly, I don't know about you guys but I feel completely put off and disrespected. I mean really, they have ZERO announcements for Android L and YET they update other phones before there Note 4 which just came out.
I've been waiting eager for this update since December, and nothing. People said soon in January, and nothing. And I was eager for the end of February. Nothing. This is getting to a point where I feel like users are going to start become irritated with this company.
So do you guys have any concrete evidence that gives a hint towards the update? I apologize for my rant, but all of its true and a lot of people I know who own the note 4 are just as fed up as me :/

I won't defend or make apologies or gripe about the delay. There was a rumor that the Oculus/Samsung Gear VR kernel developers were holding up the release of Note Lollipop. My guess is that were tweaking trying to resolve crashes and heating issues.
I also hear rumors of streamlining the update process but you also have carrier bloat and Google releasing Lollipop later. I do hope the bloat is reduced on all the aspects but I also want my S-Pen to function.
Now I will complain about the following:
KitKat was not so perfect for Google or Samsung. I didn't like the limitations on sdcard media or inability to follow links or the attempts to run apps within apps and hose the proper back and recent app jumping. There were fixes for that use Xposed framework modules. At any rate, if lollipop is more if the same, I'm in no rush to jump to lollipop without Xposed fixes for Samsung devices.
I hope Samsung listens and doesn't keep caving to Google's will like they did with the menu button. I'd hoped they would have continued the option to keep menu or recents like they initially did with the s5. I looked closely at the s5 when it came out and there was a lot to like. I checked the menu/recents swap feature and walked away confident that Samsung did a good thing pleasing all with the swapability and black background in menus but I heard that went away with updates so I'm not so encouraged going forward without without Xposed. Please ban the white background themes already.
I have a Note 8 on 4.4.2 and this on 4.4.4 which forced me to use Xposed to switch the menu and home buttons back to the classic Samsung way on the Note 4. Can't understand why Google thinks recents key is so great when you could just program a long press to switch back and forth between the two most recent apps. Oh yeah, they broke that too, meaning I have to install two Xposed modules to fix that; I did. Shame on you Google; shake on you Samsung for following after trying not change.
Edit: Just a little off topic but just watched the s6 unpack and I'm not liking the departure from removable battery. It's good that they didn't forget about fast charging with the move to wireless charging built-in but the glass back? Fingerprints? LOL! Apart from the best Amoled screen, 14nm processor, faster/efficient and cutting edge camera, Samsung is losing some of it's uniqueness and character. Admittedly, I rarely remove my battery or rear cover with the battery lasting all day. May take some getting used to the idea but I was hoping the rear cover would be removable and battery pull and replace still a user option. Fixed memory options wouldn't be bad if the price doesn't bite. Faster memory without the permission restrictions limiting apps and read write workarounds would be gone. Maybe it's only the one percent that really cares about the chassis changes and the components and specs will offset?

Don't blame Samsung. They've already released lollipop for some time. We are waiting on Sprint. Other carriers have pushed out the lollipop update for the note 4 a few of weeks ago

I know that t mobile s5 has 5.0 i havent heard about any of the U.S. carriers getting the update to note 4

Im not in any hurry for the OTA 5.0 . I use the Hybrid-X rom and it works much smother than the stock rom did, waaay tooo many bugs in the stock rom that was delivered with the Note 4 (at least the sprint version). I have Lolipop on my Nexus 7 but do not see what all the hype is about, no major pluses or upgrades for what I use my devices for. I can wait for Lolipop to show up then get turned into an even better rom!

[Discussion] Looking for a device upgrade

I've had my trusty Verizon Galaxy Nexus for 2 years and my contract is up. I'm been looking at phones and eyeballing the LG G2. I'd love a Nexus 5 but it isn't coming out for Verizon. Plus the G2 seems to have all the features I want in a phone like Wireless Charging, Good specs, etc.
BUT I'm iffy going away from the Nexus line cause last time I did that with the LG G2x, it was a complete disaster and I see the G2 basically starting off the exact same way. The G2x was released with an older Android rom with the promise of a timely update, which never happened and fixed a few problems and introduced several more. The plagued device still has issues and doesn't work right.
The G2 is doing the same thing with 4.2.2. It doesn't even have 4.3 yet and we're about to roll into 4.4. I have a feeling that by the time it gets 4.3, 4.4 will old and 5.0 will be out... if the G2 even gets any additional love. I'm hoping the N5 will help pull some of the weight with the G2 and some stuff gets moved back and forth. But this isn't really a given. I don't want to be in the same boat as the Galaxy Nexus where Verizon or LG doesn't provide updates for stuff like new radios and kernels.
It is a work phone so I have to go with Verizon. The Note 3 sounds great but too big and I have a N7... The G2 just seems like the perfect phone hardware wise and the software has some neat features... but I'll probably jump on AOKP if it ever gets supported. I was actually calling a few Verizon stores in my area and I can pick one up for less than $100 to renew my contract.
What is everyone's thoughts on LG? Have they gotten better at updating their phones? Hopefully with a huge rollout of the G2 they would try to support it a little better. Anyone know when the Samsung S5 is due out?
I'm actually having the same thought about upgrading from my Galaxy Nexus, and the LG G2 is one of my top choices, along with the Note 3. What is keeping me from making the jump is the horrible UI on the G2, at least that's my though being used to clean stock Android. Apart from that, the G2 is definitely an amazing device, a great option for an upgrade.
From what I hear s5 drops mid 2014
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I am holding off until the announcement of n5 just to be sure its not coming to verizon. I am weary to upgrade to another device though as support for them seems to die in about a year unless its a nexus.
Yea I have next week before I leave for Detroit for work. G2 dev looks good now but in 6 months it might be dead. I almost bought a G2 yesterday but I'm going to wait for the N5 and 4.4, then see how fast they port it to the G2. Hopefully its fully compatible with AOSP.
[Update]
I went to the Verizon store today and looked at the G2 and the Note 3. Some concerns. The G2 has a curved edge similar to the G2x, which makes putting a screen protector on it painful. Basically you'd have to use a wet apply Screen protector so it sticks to the curves. I run a SP on ALL my devices and really hate wet applies. You probably could use a smaller SP to not reach edge to edge and be ok, but then it looks like crap.
The G2 is very close in size to the Galaxy Nexus which is cool.
The G2 has some pretty good development going on, but I also started looking at the Note 3. It is a little more pricey but basically the same phone in a larger shell with an S-Pen. My phone is a business/pleasure device where I work with customers face to face. I've always thought it would be handy to be able to take written notes on the fly. The size is concerning though. It didn't feel too bad in hand, I could probably manage. The "leather" backing really helped with grip.
I also learned that the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Developer Edition is coming out "rumored" November 1st (same as Nexus 5). So perhaps we'll get a new launch of "Developer Editions". If the Galaxy Note 3 (Verizon Edition) can use the roms and mods from the Developer Edition, that would be awesome. Although I don't know how the S-Pen would function on AOSP (like a standard stylus?).
So basically, like I said before, I'm really anxious to pick up a new phone. I actually had the guy grab a G2 from the back, along with a blue feather case, waiting to check out. Being a corporate line, I require permission from an authorized person before they can process it.
At this point I really am excited to wait for the Google Announcement to see what comes out. I'd have to do my homework to see how development moves from a "Developer Edition" to a standard carrier edition.
Any thoughts?

I want to upgrade as well. G2 prices is great. Note 3 is way too expensive.
But I'll wait for Nexus 5.
I'm really crazy about getting updates.
At some points, I really want to use other OEM's ROM, as they looks way more stable than custom ROMs like PA or CM.
But... I don't like waiting for updates. and their updates doesn't feel like an update because the UI almost not changed...

Ge note 3 would be awesome. But IMHO snote is what makes the spen bad ass. Been hoping For Google keep to support wacam spen. Don't see why it would hurt seeing that those who don't have spen won't notice the difference. Or since my understanding is Google edition is basically an OEM ROM with OEM framework maybe snote could be downloaded in the play store...
I am partial to the note is say get the note. Chances are their will be ROMs for the latest and greatest. TW has some neat features you may end up liking them. Or you can hate them. For me the G2 seems too awkward with the volume And power button on the back. Made the phone feel bigger than it actually is. Maybe you could adjust to it.
I am running kit kat 4.4. on my note 2000
I'm not 100% sure. After doing some research, I think I misspoke here and there is supposed to be a "Developer edition" which is basically stock TouchWiz but comes pre-unlocked.
Although if they were going to announce it at the Nexus keynote, why wouldn't it have stock Android?
Anyway, the Verizon Note 3 is locked down tight right now. No Root. No bootloader. No custom recovery. No roms. The other carriers are having fun though. We'll see. I played with the G2 and the Note3 in depth at the store and while I was leaning on the Note3, I'll probably get the G2. It all really depends. My company typically buys them, so if he says "Hook him up", then I'll take the Note 3 for a trial run to see how I like it.
The G2 on Verizon is getting blown up with mods and roms but don't expect LG to come through with updates after a year. For me, it is a really tough call. Going AOSP on these phones pretty much ruins the experience with all the extras that make them unique. I do plan on using the stock roms for a while. I just hate how LG released on 4.2.2. In 9 months they'll update to 4.3 and call it a day. Note 3 is already 4.3, and probably see 4.4 here soon. And you know you'll get 5.0 (or whatever the next update is).
The Note 3 also felt better in hand.

I am hearing great reports on the LG phone, especially that it might be the only ofew getting the Kit Kat update on verizon. these are from some dev's and long time Samsung owners. i think a LG thread was created and development started in XDA. i havent used it yet, i have a few months left on my contract. here is the xda link http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2
maybe i will upgrade my wifes phone to LG and secretly swap phones:laugh:
Things that bother me on the G2 is:
Curved sides of the screen = problems with screen protectors
LG's horrible history supporting phones for very long.
4.4 is just a stepping stone so upgrading to 4.4 shouldn't be much of a hassle for any 4.x+ phone. However Android 5.0 will probably require a kernel update which must be supplied from LG.
This is exactly the same problem the Galaxy Nexus is having. Verizon isn't updating the kernel for 4.3+ builds and thus are having radio issues. It works but if you travel, you'll notice your data will never come back once it disappears... until you do a hard reset of course.
So who knows. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about the LG too and they've included lots of functionality into customizing the phone. Pretty much everything can be disabled and changed. It even has built in system-wide theme support.

yea you are rite, LG does have a history of not supporting their phones in the long run..maybe you can get a good 2 years out of the LG, just in time for the next release.

What bothers me about the G2 is the software. Being used to stock Android, and after reading a bunch of reviews from trusted sources about how the UI that LG put into this new device is quite bloated and ugly. My idea is to buy one of these devices now, and sell it once the Nexus 5 is out and in stock in Europe.
I've been looking up comparisons between the G2, the Galaxy S4, and the HTC One. The latter two are older devices, and if I want to be able to sell it in less than a year, I think the smartest choice would be to get the newer one.
The Note 3 looks incredible, but I'm already having trouble fitting the Galaxy Nexus into my pockets sometimes, and I'm not the kind of person who is constantly carrying a backpack. Maybe I could change that, I've always liked the idea of the S-pen.
In conclusion, I'm undecided between the HTC One and the LG G2.
The HTC One is amazingly built, with it's irresistible alluminum unibody and the speaker/audio quality, and has a plethora of ROMs and customizations to it, but it's already been out for a while, which makes it less profitable if I want to resell it in 6 months.
The LG G2 is brand new, has a better screen, more powerful in terms of processor, but at the same time I'm hearing about lots of issues with the camera, sound and lag. I hope the ROMs and mods from the Verizon G2 will be ported to the international variant, as there are many more available.
Today I'll go look at them in person, and hopefully make my decision aswell.
I hate those decisions, all are good phones, but just have to pick which one feels better. I think to resell down the line, the Samsung phones may hold better value, maybe due to the watch launch.

I went to the store to buy the Note 3, but I just couldn't use it at all one handed. Because of the huge size, I couldn't even barely get it stable enough in my grip to even remotely reach half of the screen. Plus the lack of Wireless Charging is a pity. I like feather cases and the additional thickness of the Qi backplate would make it not sit well. Plus I have a make-shift Qi Note2 charger pad in my Galaxy Nexus that is crafty. I don't want to have to worry about if the contacts are clean, connecting, working. I just want it to work.
I took home a G2. They had the Blue Incipio Feather case I wanted. Being used to Nexus and AOSP for so long, some of the apps do feel bloated. Email Exchange has a new SMS Sync that was syncing all of my drunk texts to my corporate exchange! I had to quickly disable that feature and delete all my sexy text messages off the email server. I've disabled like 20 different apps. There are TONS of bloat on there. Default ringtone (Boy Choir?) was god awful. You can have up to 7 apps in the Launcher Tray. Making the Font size to smallest gives you that roomy feeling. I don't understand why you would get a big screen when everything is just bigger. I buy a bigger screen to give me more room to move around.
BUT once you sit down with it, adjust the Notification toggles, lockscreen, homescreen, freeze unwanted apps, find a good theme combo (keyboard, SMS, homescreen, lockscreen), some new wallpapers, etc... it really starts to feel like a decent phone.
I DO really like the Memo app, where you can make notes over top any app. At the bar last night we were taking pictures of friends in my group and drawing stupid stuff on them. I can see how it would really be handy.
I also don't know why there are a bizillion icons in the status bar. There is a Signal bar... then a separate 3G/4G icon... then what appears to be some sort of GPS icon that I can't get rid of, AM/PM Clock, battery, alarm, etc. It takes up like half my status bar. I just need 3; Signal, Battery, Clock. Boom.
Most of the floating apps I can't really see myself ever using. I couldn't get the IR Blaster to turn off the Bar TV last night.
Most of the G2 is fluff. Fluffy fluff. Outside from that overlay note app, I'm already thinking about going to a custom rom. The IR Blaster doesn't work on AOSP though which is something I do want to utilize.
It has a pretty bad out of box experience but it is a super nice phone. Once you get rid of all the junk, it starts to come together nicely.
Not giving the G2 a bad review, I'm just used to Nexus Devices and stock Android... I'm used to that and I like that. The Stock UI has a nice feel to it. Very quick and snappy. I'm impressed with the level of customization you have with the device. I would like to see a single general theme app with all of the options. Right now, the theme settings are in there respective places so finding them is a little intense, especially for someone who isn't strong on Android skills. I know my gf probably wouldn't have found the SMS or Keyboard theme settings.
I was a little skeptical last night but it is growing on me now its setup and I'm getting familiar to the different app layouts. I just pray LG doesn't screw me again with Software updates. At least Qualcomm is better at opensourcing their stuff. I know the G2x had lots of problems because of NVidia Tegra 2.
I'm in the same boat. Running my nexus for about 1.5 yrs and looking to upgrade. I have unl. Data w Verizon but as all know vzw sucks w how they bloat and lock their phones. So gar I'm looking/ interested in the note 3, g2 or maybe the HTC one or moto x. Some of the things I want are a bigger chassis...not huge but bigger than the gnex, customizable w ROMs and kernels, timely updates, ect. My cousin has the one but it didn't wow me, but it was a stock unit no customization. The g2 looks great...good size, batt, ect but afraid like others slow w updates. As far as I read on the note 3 it is looked tight. Not a lot of ROM for customization due to Knox I guess..
I think I would love the note 3, bigger, big batt, fast but the lack of development saddens me haha. I was so waiting for the nexus 5 but that small batt honestly is making me sway away from it and the styling isn't to different from the rest of the nex. If new reviews come out saying batt life is much improved I may sway back but for now ...egh. Carrier wise I want a cheaper plan, good coverage ect and really only do maybe on a heavy month 3 gig as I use mostly wifi so I was looking at art. Gonna take a ride today and check them out and see which phone excites me. Any batt life better than my next is an improvement .

Looks like Samsung forgot Note 8.0 4.3 update!?

It is interesting to see some of last year's models (S3, Note II, etc..) getting Android 4.3, but not Galaxy Note 8.0.

Dude, at least you got 4.2. I'm on the AT&T variant and I'm still on 4.1.2. I'm seriously fricking bummed that we are being left out in the cold on this device. Not a sniff of 4.2, 4.3, or KK.

Absolutely nothing special about 4.3 to look forward to.
It does look like the note 8 has been left behind for now. This is very frustrating. Nowadays when you buy devices, you expect it to receive updates in a timely manner, especially with higher end models. 4.2.2 is now almost a year old and there are now several other version updates that have been released since then. This also goes to show that its not just carriers that are responsible for the delay of releasing updates. I have the wifi only version and with this, its Google, then Samsung, then to consumer. And it sure isnt google, so that only leaves Samsung. So for you guys on 4.1.2, thats probably on the carrier for not releasing 4.2.2.

Why feel bad
4.2.2 seems pretty stable. In a world of change, I rather have a device work well than by something that is broken when you open the box.
Features don't mean much, when programers lack the ability to produce quality work for the hardware. My 10 year old 64bit laptop did not get any benefit from 64 bit OS versions until much later, after the hardware was considered legacy. A new laptop to replace it would be a bit faster but, would lack the features of dual hard disks and expansion ports for upgrades. Everything made now has limited expandability due to hardware constraints, more than OS ability. Only a few tablets have SD cards, and rather push 300+ PPI true 1080p for a slightly noticeable wow factor. Eventually there will be 4.4 out for the Note 8. Not sure I will go to it as it is limiting more than expanding on what I am accustom to with 4.2.
All good points but there is one thing that you arent accounting for....security updates. With each release comes with security updates and patches. Believe me, im all about stability but with an android version thats almost a year old, that is leaving us vulnerable to security vulnerabilities. Its one thing to not update for certain features, but nowadays, updates are critical for security. And with android continuing to increase market share, we are increasingly becoming more of a target.

Security is a myth when you install apps. Out of the 100 apps I have installed, only 10% don't require permissions of some sort with WIFI or Network. The best security is being offline and turning off apps that you don't use before going online. There are a number of security apps that assist in making your OS be more secure. It is that 2 years ago nobody thought of securing Android as all the virus and malware were on the Windows platform. Even with the latest OS platforms you need apps to control firewall, file and browsing protection.
You also have the ability of watching which apps send data over network. Even though they have permissions, the apps usually perform such background data transfer for registration and troubleshooting. Avast does do a wonderful job at blocking both Network, 3G and Wifi. In fact I had been in scratching my head as to why my Directv remote would not connect to my DVR receiver after enabling the firewall and diabling Network and 3G on all my apps. Then it hit me... LOL.
As for data manipulation... most all apps need it to save settings or store data. So, for 90% of your apps, you cannot block data manipulation.
As for contacts and personal stuff... I keep that in my head, a tablet or smartphone should not have any important personal information... I have gotten over 30 years being able to recall and do my daily life's tasks very well without the need of small devices to get in the way.
If I IM, Chat or do anything social, it is on a hosted site. I never use apps to be use on any of my devices. This way my contacts are with the provider to be used only when I am using their services. This way if I am lazy with being online I have no trouble with data being shared when it is very little that I have available. Plus when it comes to cleaning out, a simple Full wipe and restore can be done weekly if I choose to without having to deal with restoring data and what not. Using the cloud is easy and trouble free when you properly use it.
True, however, security is multi tiered. 3rd party security apps, firewalls, antivirus/malware, app permissions and password protection are all examples of different tiers. However, all of those combined cannot combat security vulnerabilities within the OS itself. Android updates, like any other OS updates, provide security patches within the OS code that all the others cannot address. And as we continue to sit on older android OS with known vulnerabilities that 3rd party apps cannot fix, we only increase our chances of having those vulnerabilities exposed.

I need 4.3 for trim ... It makes your tab faster. .. Why wouldn't any one need that?. .. Also gives Galaxy gear compatibility with the new bluetooth LE support in 4.3.... gear is more useful for the n5100 than for a note 3

It is just the fact that guys there's not a lot of ROM development going on on Note 8.0 side (check the developer forum section, and you will know what I mean). Now if there were several 4.3 custom ROMs available, I won't even bother Samsung's official 4.3 upgrade, but there are almost none. I know that Note 8 is not quite popular device amoung the developers, thus not a lot 4.3 custom ROMs available for our Note 8.
It is funny though my almost 2 year old S3 got 4.3 upgrade, while my Note 8 still on 4.2.1 and waiting...

Same here, I'm in Portugal and the update is still just a dream... I was hoping that a high end tablet should be a priority when updating... in fact this is the only reason I regret buying the note 8 so far...

I need 4.3 for trim ... It makes your tab faster. .. Why wouldn't any one need that?. .. Also gives Galaxy gear compatibility with the new bluetooth LE support in 4.3.... gear is more useful for the n5100 than for a note 3

My list of needs is much simpler. I just want a screen lag fix.
Any one know if galaxy note 8 will get official kitkat in the future ?
Thanks ..

Yea, apple beats samsung when it comes to the update because every update reaches all ios users around the globe, I wish samsung could do that too

[Q] Will any Note 3 user get the Note 4

Anyone jumping on the Note 4 train later in the year? I am sure we can safely assume that the specs will be top of the line.
Probably SD 805
Might even be 4GB of RAM
I may but it will depend on the actual phone once it is released. The biggest deciding factor for me will be how locked down it is.
Antutu benchmarks revealed a 2K display, which is insanely good, I would wait and see how the phone first turns out to be. The display alone is a large upgrade also the newer TW shouldn't be as bloated and more stable + better looking. So probably.
The N3 is basically perfect in my eyes, so the N4 will have to be a pretty significant improvement for me to cash in my upgrade. If they take away the home button, that'll be a definite dealbreaker for sure.
Had the N2 and N3 and will more than likely get the N4.
I buy a phone now ~every six months or so, but no guarantee it will be the Note 4 unless it's the best phone at the time. I'm about due, so they better hurry up.

haha I was thinking the exact opposite - the only only thing I have disliked about the Note3 and GS3 coming from my 1st smartphone (LG g2x) was the hardware home button. I loved the clean 4-soft-key setup from my old LG.
If Samsung made a Note4 for me that was just a Note3 with all softkeys I'd buy it in a heartbeat :silly:
I will be JUMPing as soon as t-mobile lets me.
ya like hardware soft keys too, on screen and hardware keys are a no no
I've had every Note since the N7000/i717 (had both of those) and the N3 is end of the line for me. It's been good but Samsung hates developers and it'll take too long to get a solid device tree for non-TW roms.
Will probably be going with an iPhone or a new Nexus phone instead.
How dare you mention iPhone on xda ?

I will 99.9% get the N4 on the first day.

There are only a few things I can think of right now that I really hate about the Note 3, and the Home button (Samsung, it's not an iPhone, and even the iPhone does it better anyway!) has to be #1.
The idiotic "drip" noise that replaced actual dialing tones, and touch sounds (audible feedback) is probably second. I had fixed the touch sounds while rooted when I was on NB4, but I upgraded to NF1 without looking up how to retain root first and Towelroot no longer works, so now I'm stuck with just turning those sounds off. I have never found a fix for the dialing tones short of replacing the dialer with a 3rd party one.
I also don't like the S-Voice or My Magazine, since they take up a otherwise useful button and can't be disabled without root (and disabling My Magazine causes double tapping the home button to crash the TW launcher).
But even with all that said, I still hate the home button first and foremost.
Will probably get the Note 4 if it supports band 12. Will come in handy up here in the North East when they deploy 700 mhz.

If the rumors of a metal back or curved/multipane display are true than heck no! I like my samsung plastic, and the grip on this thing is perfect, and try drawing on a curved display, no thanks.

I'm actually looking to see what Samsung does with the next generation of the Galaxy Mega 6.3. What stopped me from buying that was the low-end specs. I didn't even mind the 720p screen.
Now if Sammy can see it in their hearts to bump the specs so that it is responsive, then the next Mega will probably be my next phone.
I will get it if it comes with no Knox crap
I will... I like to be up to date with my gadgets besides note 3 is sooo last year ?

Alright, Tell it to me straight. :)

I am between purchasing a Nexus 6 and a Galaxy Note 4 in December, currently leaning towards a Nexus 6.
But this is the deal, because of my employer, I will not be able to root my phone. Yeah, I know there are some xposed modules that can hide root, but everytime my work apps update then I'd have to wait for the xposed module to update and basically don't want to deal with that. So my question is, how is the Note 4 stock unrooted? I've heard some negative commentary regarding TW lagging. I'm also concerned about waiting forever for the Android L update. So basically, Android L and lagging are the two biggest reasons I'm leaning towards a Nexus, but I definitely want to do my due dilligence in hearing user feedback regarding lagging, specifically with TW.
Thanks all.
PS. I had to switch to an iPhone earlier in the year due to a work agreement, but now I'm allowed to go to Android if I want, so can't wait to be back.

I ran unrooted for two weeks, and performance was fine. The only reason I finally rooted was to kill the ads in some of the apps I use. Personally I have no issues with TW, not laggy at all and I think it adds some useful functions.
I think the choice comes down to features. Can you do without an SD card, removable battery and fingerprint sensor? If so, then having pure android and fast updates may be worth it. Since I keep 50 gigs of media on my card and use the fingerprint sensor it was an obvious choice
I've only experienced lag since I rooted and installed xposed, there's a fix now, but if you're unrooted it shouldn't be an issue. The only reason I rooted this time was to kill the home button wake feature and take advantage of greenify.
Thanks guys. Makes me wonder if the people citing lag issues are just anti Samsung. I think it will come down to how it feels in the hand. The sd card isn't a big deal since I'll subscribe to Google Music.
Personally, I want Android Lollipop pretty bad, but I think where the Note 4 has a lead is that the features support the size of the phone better than the Nexus, which is just huge.
Note 4 has am SD card n removable battery nexus gets direct updates ...

Have you considered the Note Edge? I heard it was coming out next month. The touch wiz interface allows you to use touch wiz software camera, fingerprint scanner and sheath are all super useful.

I haven't. It looks cool but I get a little scared of gimmicks like that.
Looks like the Nexus 6 is getting some pretty unfavorable reviews and played around with a Note 4 at Sprint this evening. I think I'm leaning towards the Note now.
My reasons for getting the Note 4 over the Nexus 6 is features. The Nexus 6 is a big screen phone but the Note 4 is really a phablet.
No multi window, fingerprint scanner, no S-Pen and no S-Health features.
Would love lollipop but otherwise very happy with the Note 4
I've read some great reviews about the nexus 6. I couldn't give up my note, though. The multi window and the s pen are a must for me now. I think there's always somebody who complains about lag on every phone. The only lag on this phone that bugs me (3/10) is when I click the recent apps button. It's a 2 second lag. I can count it every time. I'm just getting used to it because of the 1000 other reasons I love the phone.

I saw a vid of lollipop running on an S5. Looks sweet! No if we can get the update timely.

Couple quick 5.0 questions

When are we expecting this to drop for our device? Ready for our device to be more snappy as my old n5 with 5.0 is much faster than my Note 4.
Is there going to be an development for this device in time? I know it is tough for some Devs to get their hands on these phones so I didn't know if that was why there is basically nothing, or if there is some other reason.

I haven't been keeping up with Lolipop release dates or anything so I couldn't say when that will come out. But I look forward to it... I hope. LOL
There's several reasons for the lack of dev's for our Sprint Note 4 and that has been discussed already here in the forum. The speed difference between the Note 4 and the Nexus 5 could very well be due to the lack of software overlay and features on the Nexus device compared to the Note 4 which leaves plenty of processing/memory resources available to run a much lighter software. This is a given. But in reality I don't see much any lag on the Note 4 so I'm perfectly fine with it. I would literally get depressed and panic if I had a vanilla Nexus device because I've come to love all the features and advantages of the Note series phones. It's a good thing we have a choice in the Android world!
Note 4 wont see it until early 2015.

With it being a Sprint push, most likely
My guess is middle of february.
So outside of the material design language and project Volta (think I got that right), what else are we missing from 5.0?
IMO...feels like another push just to get the latest version of Android but due to TW, I don't think we'll see much difference.
Judging from what I have seen on my old n5 as far as the difference in responsiveness and snappiness, this will be a huge update, TW or not. 5.0 is about twice as smooth as 4.4.4 on my n5.
Fair. I was rocking the developer preview on my N5 before I got rid of it.
Just as others have said, Ive read the same on sam mobile early 2015.
and by then Google will announce Android 5.5 Lolita
