[Q] No OS, phone boots to cmw but won't go any further need help! - Desire 816 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I attempted to root my HTC Desire 816 dual sim. I managed to get it to work following instructions I found from this site. I then went on to try and install Cyanongenmod onto my device, I can't remember where the site was that I was following but I had to, within CMW recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cashe, format system and format partition.
I did all this then tried to flash this ROM but it said it was the wrong ROM for my device and it said my device was htc_a5dug. which I've had no luck finding anywhere.
Now the phone will only boot into CMW recovery, I can install superSU but any other ROMs I've tried it has aborted automatically, if i restart the system from CMW, it comes up saying there is no root access, root missing /system/xbin/su ( see one of the attached pictures)
I've managed to get it restarted to the bootloader page twice (happens randomly when I select restart to bootloader from CMW) (pictures of bootloader in attatchments showing no OS)
I have a feeling I've totally stuffed my phone when i formatted the system and partition
If anyone has any idea how I can get this fixed I would be so greatful.
PS I'm feeling quite noobish right now

where do I get a cwm backup from?
[edit] OK I flashed a recovery stock.img file, then I got a red triangle, the phone rebooted and now its stuck on the htc android startup screen and I can't turn the phone off. so Ill have to wait till the battery runs flat.
In the mean time more suggestions and guidance would be super.

I think ive bricked my phone and don't know what to do.... please help me
1) Ive root, downgrade and S-OFF my Desire Z using this instructions and everything went with no problem.afterwards I was able to boot into new ROM and confirm the changes.
2) I downloaded latest CM for my device, copied it on my SD card with Google pack and followed instructions here to flash CM(1).
I used Method via Recovery(2) and proceed every step with no error... after step 10 i select Reboot system now as instructed in the manual. BUT my phone boots into ClockworkMod Recovery AGAIN as if nothing happened.
I am unable to boot neither in CM nor previous ROM.
THANK U FOR HELPING ME
PS:
before copying CM files i formatted my SD card with windows in FAT32
I was not sure how can i boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. So, i did it by installing ROM manager application and selecting the option "Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery"

Are you still able to boot into recovery?
If you are, try reflashing CM7 as it might have just not "stuck".
Also, check the md5 of the downloads to make sure they are intact.

Yes! i am able to boot into ClockWorkRecovery and (apparently) it is working properly.
i also have access to ADB. but im such a noob i dont know what to do
I tried so many times to first wipe data/factory reset from the menu, then installing CM7 from Zip on SD and rebooted the device. but my phone boots to ClockWorkRecovery every time... and Md5, its correct.
Thanks for help

That's odd ... have you tried pulling the battery and booting that way as opposed to rebooting out of recovery?

Need help putting deodexed custom ROM on N7105XXDLL4 - installation stops prematurely

Hi
i figured out how to update my original firmware of 4.1.1 on my Note 2 N7105 LTE to 4.1.2 by downloading this tar.md5 (N7105XXDLL4_N7105TMHDLK8_TMH) through Odin
and it seemed to work because in "about device" it says im running 4.1.2 and it also seems to be a REALLY annoying European T-Mobile version because of the short and LOUD t-mobile video every single time i open and close my phone.
I also installed CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.5-jb which works perfectly (thank god)
now when i tried to boot the deodexed rom for N7105XXDLL4 through recovery via sd card. everything seems fine i can choose all the options in sequence and when i get to the end it tries to install (percentage bar) but stops very quickly and reboots me to recovery mode...the first time i did that it forced me to restore from backup (because it wouldnt boot at all) and the second time i did it it made me reboot and the samsung logo appeared followed by "android is upgrading 0 to 162" I WAS SUPPPPER HAPPPPY!! but i was crossing my fingers...low and behold the phone did boot but all the fonts and everything else were EXTREMELY tiny and a message kept popping up saying SystemSU has closed or something..
I obviously restored back to t-mobile 4.1.2 (hungarian)
Is there something wrong im doing during the installation? should i try and upload it through odin or something instead of through my sd card??and how do you do that?? i mean it cant be the wrong deodexed because i chose the first one for xxdll4 and it the installation does boot on my phone..
i mean everything looks great except for the fact that it stops at the beginning of installation and reboots me to recovery prematurely....
ANY HELP???!!!! THANKS!!!

[Q] HTC One X Restor Failure - Not Loading

Hi. First of all congratulations on you exceptional work and great forum, I am a frequent reader!
Since yesterday when I turned it on I have not network connection on my phone (HTC One X). I tried the same sim card on a different device and it works, so I guess is something with the device, not the SIM or the carrier. As I recently (2 months ago) rooted and installed a custom ROM (cyanogenmod) following this tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660807) I thought it could be something with the ROM and tried to went back to my original HTC version (before I install the cyanogenmod version I did what I think is a backup of my original ROM).
As it says in the tutorial I am using teamwin recovery project, so I used this software to backup, install the new ROM and now I am trying to restore the backup, but it is not working - it looks like it completes restore with success, then I reeboot the phone and it stays forever in the HTC splash screen...
Can anyone please help me with that?
Thanks!
Just a note: before it reboots the phone it says you device does not appear to be rooted and prompt me to install SuperSU now. I tryed it both doing it and not, dont know if it helps.

Thanks robchongke!
So I instaled the SuperSU (I still had it on a folder in the phone), then I went into restore, selected the older folder (which should countain my original ROM), all the process went ok with no errors in the console (restore completed in 149), then restart (again asking if I want to root my phone or not), I said no this time and then the same is happening, the phone starts with but stays forever in the splash screen. When you say "dont forget to flash the backupĀ“s boot.img also what do you mean exaclty? You mean in the restoring screen, after select the backup folder, select both Boot and System? That's is selected by default so I just "swipe to restore"...
Thank you for you help!

you have to flash the boot.img so it wont bootloop. if you have a copy of your backup in your computer copy the boot.img and place it inside your fastboot folder if you do not have a copy you can mount your phone in recovery. boot into bootloader then enter this command in command prompt.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
flash erase cache.

Oh that's a different think then... Thank you very much for your reply! Meanwhile I installed the ROM I had in my folder again - the version I installed first - and it worked fine and I have phone signal again! So everything is solved, not with the first solution I thought, but at least is working now. Now the pain of get all the apps installed again and configure everything...
Anyway, thank you very much robchongke, your help was great and I am sure if I had the knowledge to follow your instructions I would have the stock version installed right now.

hi, recently i decieded to install CM11 on my samsung galaxy nexus, i downloded it and then i reset facotry my phone, but when i wanted to install it from Bootloader i got an error, then i thohgt it cause of old bootloader so i wanted to update it but THE problem showed up, i cant come into my android it wont be come, please help me out
If all you did was a normal factory reset, it should boot up fine. If you did something like wiped system, then you need to get to a computer and use ADB. If you wiped system then you have nothing to boot to
i think i do that too, but i got a backup too, what is ADB, how should i use it ?
the error is: set_metadata_recursive: some change failed

If you have a backup though, why cant you just restore the backup? Can you not get into the recovery anymore?
kinda curious, OP why didnt you just wipe everything in recovery mode and flash it??
1) adb reboot bootloader
2) fastboot flash recovery ***recovery.img*** (i like to rename the image to "recovery" for the ease of my own useage)
3) press vol rocker to recovery mode and flash away!
I personally use TWRP, but a lot of people prefer CWM, they are both amazingly easy to use.
worst case, you flash the stock 4.3 image from google to get everything back on track.

[Q] HTC One M8 (bricked?)

Hi guys I am trying to get my phone in some sort of working order. I have CWM Recovery 6.0.5.1 for some reason no matter what I do to change the recovery it stays the same. I've tried installing lower CWM and also tried installing TWRP which again it says it was installed but when i go to recovery it still shows the CWM recovery. I installed CM11 and it worked fine, when I installed gapps is when the problems started. I've tried install multiple roms now, and it just doesn't want to take anything

try restoring a stock nandroid backup. if you dont have one then download one from general thread. and also make a nandroid backup of your current rom. not so sure what your problem is but maybe returning to pure stock will help.
I am trying to load the nandroid but I cannot get this recovery to work right. I've tried installing openrecovery-twrp to install the nandroid but i cant get the CWM to remove. I really dont mind what bootloader is on there but anything just to install any rom

Get TWRP Manager from the play store. Hit the three line menu thingy on the top left of the app, and pick install TWRP. Super easy.
Ok guys ive tried reinstalling the same CWM version and reinstalling CM11 with no luck. I cannot change the bootloader to TWRP because it appears to be stuck on the CWM. The problem started for me when I installed the gapps through CWM, as soon as I did that when the phone went to boot it now says please enter the password for android, then says it was the right password but data is corrupt and cant use phone.
Is there a way to attempt to just format the entire phone including partition size and start from scratch again?

How are you trying to flash these recoveries (they're not called bootloaders, that is something totally separate)?
Have you tried using TWRP Manager as I suggested earlier, or are you using ADB? And If you are using ADB and trying to flash it that way, what fastboot commands are you giving?
There is no way that your should be "stuck" with CWM.
Okay what i have to do is fastboot its the only thing i can get to work. Not at my computer but yeah i fastboot the recovery img via cmd in windows. Fastboot flash recovey i use ane it successfully does. Doesnt matter what img or recovery i use when i boot into recovery it still uses cwm. Also only way i can put a rom on is adb sideload but now thats even failing with status 7 error
Also when i try the command fastboot oemRUU or whatever the command is it reboots the phone shows CM logo and boots till asking for android pw

The status 7 error is because of an outdated recovery. Not much help, I know.
It's strange that the TWRP Manager doesn't work. I've helped others with problems flashing recovery, and it has worked for them.
You could also try ROM Toolbox to update your CWM, or ROM Manager, but ROM Toolbox is better/more complete. It has everything ROM Manager has plus some.
The other option that you may not want to take is to do a COMPLETE wipe of your phone. That always sucks.
Going to try those programs. Thank you btw and how do i perform the full wipe i was about to throw the phone out lol.
@thetinyjesus You could also try this app. No PC necessary.
Thanks but cannot use the app i cannot get the phone to boot. Do you have directions for a full wipe

Actually, you full wipe in recovery. lol
If you haven't tried TWRP Manager yet, that would be my first choice.
Damn that didnt work than i tried all those format options in the bunked recovery with no luck it sucks
If you're using the command prompt to flash the recovery, provide a screenshot of your desktop so that we can see what you're doing and what "it's" doing.
Starting to think that it's more of an "operator" fault and not anything to do with the device that doesn't want to play along.
Okay once im back home ill show the output
Here is the output from flashing the recovery. Once again when I went to recovery it loaded with CWM.
Also here is the output from sideloading the cm file again (same error no matter what rom I try)
Windows CMD: C:\Users\Jimmy\Desktop\platform-tool>adb sideload cm.zip
sending: 'cm.zip' 100%
Phone: Installing update...
set_perm_recursive: "/system" not a valid uid
E: Error in /tmp/update.zip

Anyone?
