[Q] Quick question on whether to ditch stock ROM - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Afternoon folks,
I'm debating whether to root my D855 and ditch the stock ROM in favour of CM12. I don't there's much about the stock install that I'd miss, but one thing I'm wondering about is how the Google Camera app compares to the LG one. Has anyone noticed any pros/cons to using the camera after flashing a custom ROM? I love the ability to take a selfie by clenching my fist, but I rarely take these so it wouldn't be too much of a loss.
Also, does CM12 improve control over the speaker volume? With the stock install I have a huge gap between silent and the first volume level - particularly annoying for alarms.
Any comments/thoughts appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Gray

Can someone help me!?

I have a prom coming up soon but I want to take pictures with good quality. Unfortunately the stock camera this MIUI ROM came with sucks. Can someone upload a Camera.apk file to help? If you can get the best one I will be so happy, or if you know how to improve the one OsiMood MIUI 2.5.13. Please help me at the best if your ability.

I don't have the stock camera.apk I can give you. But there are a few 3rd party camera apps on the Market that others claim are better than stock. Vignette is pretty good (but a paid app), and FxCamera and Camera360 are supposed to be pretty good too (both free).

I believe you are limited to the pixel density of the camera itself, which isn't whole dependable on the software..
Sorry for not throwing you an .APK that would be useful. Just wanted to let you know that your thread is being read.

You're not going to get decent pictures indoors with the DZ (or just about any phone, for that matter) -- especially in a dimly-lit dance floor. You'd do better to buy or borrow a digital camera with a good flash.

Some claim that various camera apps will handle auto white balance, auto focus, auto ISO, etc. differently, possibly resulting in better photo quality. Although I've used the HTC camera app and stock AOSP, and played around with Vignette a bit, and haven't noticed a big difference.
I understand I cant increase my camera pixels due to hardware, but I had older ROMs with better picture quality l'm just wondring if someone has a good Camera.apk on there ROM they can give to at lease give me better picture. This MIUI ROM made by OsiMood is not good at all, and I know it can be better. So if anyone else can take there Camera.apk and upload it that will be very helpful.
Flash a new ROM!
Need good pictures for Prom - Prom = dark - Phone doesn't like dark - Can't take pictures with phone - Need DSLR with flash - Hire DSLR with flash - DSLR with good flash likes dark - Take pictures - I have good pictures from Prom
So im guessing no Camera.apk files are avalible!?
- download some different roms and extract camera.apk from the zip,
- make a backup of your existing camera.apk
- start moving camera.apk from roms you've downloaded and find the one that you like most.

Did you check out the Market apps I suggested? Its not like the AOSP stock camera app is all that great anyway. Probably be easy to find equal or better 3rd party app, if its a hassle to get the camera apk.
Your going to prom! Drink more beer and they will all look better in the dark! Lol I couldn't resist that one. But you could also buy a cheap digital camera at wally world for around $20 that will preform better in the dark then your g2.

[Q] Camera app - old and new

Hi everyone! This is my first post here so I hope I'm doing this right. I'm not sure if this should be here in Q&A or in the App section but here goes.
I really love my Epic 4G. Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was still running Dk28 with midNIGHT rom 3.1. Then I finally switched over to the wonderful CM9 Beta1. I am loving it so far, but there's one thing that bothers me. The camera.
One of the things I used to use on the camera very frequently was the panorama/wide shot function. I really hate the sweep panorama of the ICS camera because with the crafts I make, it's just horrible and it's always distorted because sweeping and me don't get along. The camera that was on my leaked Froyo had the feature where I would click the first picture, and while moving to the side a green box would guide me and then automatically take the next shot when it lined up, then I'd move again and it would take the next shot. It would then put the images together for me.
I really need that feature back. Is there a way that I can install that camera app back onto my phone in addition to the updated ICS camera? I really like the smoothness and speed of the ICS camera for normal picture taking.
I can pull the camera.apk from my original install, but as I said, I don't want to overwrite the ICS one, which I fear because they have the same name and I don't know if renaming it will make the difference. I want both. If someone could guide me in getting both on my phone, that would be great. I'm sure there must be a way, but I don't know how to do it. I've read a lot on these boards so I figure if anyone knows how to help, the great minds here do!
I hope I've explained this ok. If I'm not clear, please let me know. Thanks much!
p.s. I've tried a number of camera apps from Play. I don't like the wide shot ones where it has a ghost image for you to line it up manually either, so please don't suggest that.

Camera app - old vs ics new

Hi guys
I originally asked this in the Q&A section a week ago, but I wasn't sure if it belong here in the apps section instead. Since I didn't get any replies, I'm thinking maybe I should have posted it here to begin with. I hope someone in this section might be able to help.
If I'm not supposed to put this in two areas, I apologize. I'm not too forum saavy; just looking for help for my issue.
Thanks a lot guys

I'd love to see the old TW camera on CM9. The ported TW apps thread a couple posts down mentions this, but i haven't seen anyone post a successfully working version yet.
Hopefully someone who knows what they're doing can figure it out for us. *crosses fingers*
Wishlist? Anyone?
Lol....I was running the peoples rom last week and was wondering the opposite. If there was a way to put the ics camera on that tw rom. That's an awesome rom and has the tw camera (obviously), but maybe just flash that and try it for a while?
On a side note.....Not sure if its just me, or does does the ics camera take much better (normal) pictures, even when zooming in quite a bit? I've been wondering if something was done in ics to better utilize the camera hardware.

I find the ICS camera to be really nice for just normal pics. Definitely faster and does seem to be on the clearer side. But I'm really needing that old auto panorama/wide shot feature. (non sweeping motion or ghost line up).

[Q] Advice about what version of CM10/11 to install

Hi XDA'ers,
I've just received my shiny new S4 mini and I've subjected myself to an hour of the new touchwiz. Lets say I'm ready to move back to Cyanogenmod. What I'm after from you guys is advice about which version of CM I should install for maximum compatibility. I've noticed that there is a bug list for KK which doesn't seem to be changing much. Is CM10.x better as a daily driver as I tend to use most, if not all functions whilst I'm out and about.
Looking forward to any helpful replies

Cheers dude, I installed the KK serranto last night and so far so good. Apart from camerra zoom and a little glitch with the headset (from everything I've managed to test so far) which was resolved by unplugging and replugging to solve, its been a good experrience so far.
Same here! CM11 as my daily driver. Camera zoom is generally a bad idea though because phones like this do not have a mechanical zoom so any zooming you do is actually just cropping that part of the image and then enlarging to fit your screen's viewport. Similar to taking the picture then zooming in.
Not something which can be fixed by any software updates essentially

Hi, I tried to use cm11. Everything was perfect, except extremely battery drain. I think my I9190 does not enter deep sleep mode. How can I fix that?

Use a custom kernel and BatterBatteryState to check what keeps the phone awake.

[Q] Is there a way to use the LG g3 volume buttons to zoom camera?

Hello. Sorry if this is a noob question.. I'm new to xda, love reading and learning from people much smarter than myself, and thank you in advance for any assistance from you guys and gals. Anyways, I have a T-Mobile LG g3, rooted, Stock rom with xposed. I came from a Nexus 4 and loved to tweak it. I absolutely love my g3, and have never had an issue with setting up the phone to my liking. But I can't seem to find any info on how to use the volume buttons to zoom the stock camera. Maybe it can't be done (yet), but I also may be missing something. Any advice? Thanks again, and to all the devs out there that make tweaking a phone easy for a noob like me, keep up the good work!
