Sprint S4 Mini (SPH - L520) unlocked SSU.apk need for Verizon, how to change APN? - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First off, I have looked around for a half a day already on this for my youngest daughter. The Sprint S4 mini is on 4.2.2 and seems like SSU.apk unlock the phone fine.
Only problem is there is nowhere to change the APN settings to get the phone to work with a Verizon card. Are my only options using a ROM to get to these settings. Have not rooted it yet or even looked into that. Just trying to get it to work as a phone.
Please help before my head f-ing head explodes. I hate asking for help.

You can use apn app on google play. I can not unlock my s4 mini sprint.

Thanks for the suggesting, I was also thinking about that as well. Only problem is there is so many of them and the few that I've tried had no luck or wanted me to use the pro version. I have no problem buying a pro version, just weary cause they seem sketchy at best.
Rooted the phone using Kango, so if anyone has a suggestion on a solid app to do this please mention it.
Thanks again for the suggestion buddy.

Honestly at this point I just need to edit the apn.xml file to the correct data and whatever other files I need to change to get this to work.
I know how to edit the file using ES Explorer just not the values and what I need to do to make it take on boot.
I'm so close I can taste it lol. Even if someone could up their Verizon apns-conf.xml file would help.
found is System\etc\
thanks for reading. Also where is apps/common/res/apns.xml --> (can't find this file)

[Q] Full NV Backup and Restore? Does this work for the SGN2?

I recently purchased a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 and would like to make a Full Backup of the NV. (and be able to restore/edit if needed) I notice the following link for Galaxy SIII http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804123
The question I have is does this also work for us Note 2 people? If it does, it would make me feel better about flashing a custom rom onto this phone. If anyone could shed some light on if this like works with our phone.. Please let me know... (and yes, I read the entire post.. along with this long post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801997 both places did not address if this works with the Note 2...)
Yes ive backed up and restored using exactly that process

If you don't mind, could you state which method worked for you, and where you rooted? did you have a base Rom installed? Was the phone unlocked?
I tried both of these methods and found that I could read the NV, but not write to the NV. Here is a little data about my phone: Base stock rom. Rooted using Exynos Abuse Apk. I also unlocked the phone using code *#197328640#. After trying both of these methods I then installed TWRP.
Thanks for any information...
No I think I was rooted. I actually used all of the methods. I used the toolkit method by mskip. I used the nv reader writer method. And then I did one more way but I forgot what it was. Let me check.
Also. I don't t think rooting the phone matters as to whether you can back it up or not., actually it doesnt.
Secondly I do my backups on stock rom. Always. Just because I want everything to be correct you know?
Edit* man look. DO NOT try writing to your nv. All that you need to do is READ. So everything is ok as long as you are not trying to write anything to nv.
The only time you need to write to nv is when you are actually perform a restoration of your nv data...get it?
Read = nv reader program is looking around for the info to remember
Write= nv reader program REWRITING data to the nv aka restore.
Another thing to keep in mind is that nv reader program will write just about anything to the nv if you arent careful and that alone can ruin your phone. Moral of the story is to make sure you write the correct stuff back in if you are restoring.
Backing up is easy just let the program run. And save the file wherever you need it. Bam finished
Im not being condescending by the way. I just try to explain things as easy as I can. Sometimes itight seem like im rude. But believe me mate I dont have a rude hair on my head.
If you have anymore problems or questions feel free to pm me

Hi,
Were you able to backup your Note 2? I'm in the same boat, and don't know which method is best for the Note 2.
Thanks

I seem to be able to back up the information, but anytime I made a change, and tried to write those changes back to the NV file, they would not take. Tried both methods in the OP as described by those links, was able to look/save the data, but no luck making any changes stick during a write back.
That brought up the question that if/when a ROM change corrupted my phone, would either method be able to write back to the NV file and save my phone from a bricked status. I highly doubt that either of those methods work for our phone other than to view/save the NV data.
Please, If I am mistaken, could someone point me to the correct link, or at least explain how they where able to make the changes to the NV file stick during a write back.
Yes just follow the directions in the post. It works
If you were smart you would just do BOTH methods and keep BOTH files just to be safe instead of trying to figure out which one works by asking people on this forum that nine times out of ten dont know theirselves.
Might sound harsh or mean or whatever but I always find it best to protect myself as many ways as possible. I mean after all It was my money that paid for the phone right?

[Q] nv_data.bin missing?

So I just rooted my SGH-T999 samsung galaxy SIII and I was watching the video on how to unlock it and on the very first step, I can't seem to find nv_data.bin anywhere. I tried to search it through rootexplorer but nothing showed up.
My question is, does this phone (os 4.1 jellybean) not have a nv_data.bin in it? or did I do something seriously wrong? I rooted using xda's video guide on rooting. Thank you for any help possible.

have you enabled showing hidden/system files with whatever you're trying to see it with?
default settings do not display system files as a practice.
Also, just to give you some direction :
I'd surely not introduce a whole bunch of new things to the phone at the same time. That would make any troubleshooting very hard, if not impossible!
Sorta like bringing 100 people into a small room, will be hard to know who has the bad body odor, capish?
Anyways, bottom line, it's your device, so whatever you choose to do ..... Flail away!
good luck.....

Data Is Messed-up Trying "Permanent Sim Unlock" NEED HELP

Hi, I really Jacked-up my G2 trying to follow the "Permanent Sim Unlock" thread. I thought it would be useful because I have a Sprint Sim in my phone and it is locked but when I tried it my Data connection is almost nonexistant. I am hoping someone can send me or upload the original files that were either over-written or deleted by the attempt such as the " Property, .xml. and the telephony.db " files.
Go ahead an insult me all you want...LOL... but I did a backup first but it did not undo the damage.....Someone please help me if you can. Thanks!
Just curious why you thought a sim unlock would be useful if you are on Sprints network? There would be no need to unlock sim if you are staying on their service, they use the sim to authenticate your LTE (data), and cdma (radio) to make calls. Those of us that dont want to use sprint service need the sim unlocked! I would go back to stock since you are on their service, follow the tutorial here, http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-restore-lg-g2-to-stock-firmware/
If you want to root after that use IORoot 25 found here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618232
Then you can use apps with SU permissions but if you are going to stay on sprints network, there is no need for you to unlock the sim slot! Best of Luck!

Yes....I realized my misunderstanding after I did it. I also know that the best option for me is to go back to stock but I can't download a file that large (2.1 gig firmware) right now so I was looking for an alternative. I did the IORoot the first time and it did well so it is still rooted. I was just hoping someone could provide the original firmware files that were changed by using the method on the "Permanent Sim Unlock" thread. It shouldn't be that large of a file if someone could zip the 3 main files for me and I can undo the ".bak" of the app files. If no one wants to upload it I can give my email address and they can send it that way. So if someone is reading this that can take a few minutes out of their schedule to help me out I would appreciate it.
oh ok, I dont have access to my computer right now or I would pull you the 2 files for you from my stock G2. I am pretty sure they are on the site already in the posts, try searching for them. I am pretty sure I saw them in the posts somewhere, if you dont find them, I will post them, when I get home.

Device variant/ROM question

Hello,
I have an LG G3 AS990 (Ntelos). I would like to root and flash a different ROM, but am having trouble finding my variant as Ntelos is a smaller carrier. Does anyone have any advice on compatibility between any other variants? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
I've continued to search, but haven't found anything. Just hoping someone may have some information.

I've been researching this as well. You could try finding the beta version of CM for Sprint's LS990. I would try it just for the fun of it, but I'm nervous that I don't have the stock rom for AS990 to revert back to. I have my system backed up, but I'm not comfortable enough to rely on that to save my phone if I brick it trying to install CM.
Bump. I have the same problem here, except that mine got pushed an OTA patch that prevents stump and others. So far no firmware I have found is compatible with this device to even downgrade in order to root in the first place. If anyone has succeeded with as990 NTelos please help.
Bumping the necro in hopes of support. XD my software says as99020a but the writing on the back under the cover says us990... So I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do especially since I can't even find a place to download the firmware for manual updates.. Etc. :-[ Damn ntelos
AS990 Recovery?
Has anyone found a recovery that works with the AS990?
I have an option
I've posted a way to use TWRP and ROMs for the LS990 on the LG G3 subreddit, I need 10 helpful posts before I can post it here because I have a few xda posts and downloads linked.
AS990 experience
Hi all,
I have tried different roms on my as990 (Carolina West Wireless) by using the method on reddit (HERE) and everything works just a few things to keep in mind
To get your sim to work on a custom rom you may need to change the build.prop ro.build.target_operator=, and ro.afwdata.LGfeatureset=
Take note of these settings before you try to reflash the phone. If you change one, change both if applicable.
Remember to backup your old build.prop
Backup all apns before you start using method found (HERE)
Backup build.prop
Oh and did I mention backup build.prop
The restore files can be found (HERE) and use the guide found (HERE) replacing the files mentioned with the ones in the post. If you use this method to restore you phone, the build.prop from the reddit post will not work so use the old build.prop that I'm sure by now you have backed up or you will have to get the custom .dll file elsewhere to restore.
For all who have taken the ota update, the restore method works for that too
Your carrier files are automatically restored if you use the firmware in the above post. That is to say they were for me but if anyone else test this
no guarantees but it did work flawlessly for me.
Also I am currently working on a recovery for AS990 if anyone has any ideas feel free to chime in
A couple of side notes
The method by tybskinner may also work if you flash to US990 as well, but I have not tried this yet. To do so you would need the custom .dll or the build.prop for US990
Users have reported that SIM unlock is possible by changing the the build.prop ro.build.target_operator= to global or open however I have not tried this yet
If anyone has a method to change the PRL on the device please let me know I have tried several options but no method I have tried will allow the PRL to stick
P.S. not trying to steal your thunder tybskinner just making it easier for people to find the links
Thanks for the info guys. At this point I'm having issues just trying to root the thing. Lost root with Lollipop, and for some reason I cant seem to regain it. Oh well. The price you often pay for having a smaller carrier (I actually work for nTelos, so its my work provided device).
Thanks again. I hope you guys are able to get yours setup the way you like. :good:

Currently there is no root method for the AS990 device on the newest ROM however if you follow the guide posted you can downgrade to the previous version and go from there.
Have a look here...I found a way around the whole super secure as990 crap

Adding Root to Combination File

Hi, I'm note sure if I'm asking this in the right area its been a while since I've asked anything. Anyway, I'm glad to have root on N930 All devices. However I have a N930V, both root method and combination firmware. I want gain root on the combination firmware but I really don't know how. First I tried flashing the rooted Sprint Leaked firmware, rooting it perm and then flashing the combo and even vice versa. I did alot of splitting files etc etc. Still no luck. I even cracked out Linux because I'm trying to discover how does this Sprint leaked file has root on it anyway but I believe its the "user-debug" kernel. Anyway can anyone elaborate on this? And kind of guide and help me out with this I'd really appreciate it. Please don't ask me why I'm doing this I'm looking for assistance not interrogation. Thanks Vell123
I don't know much about the technical issues, but you tried the Hydra method?

I don't believe it has root but it doesn't block ADB from pushing SU. Directly after flashing the sprint firmware before even booting it you run ADB and push the superuser.apk so it is rooted at that point. Then you flash the partial VZW firmware which doesn't include the recovery and maybe bootloader. The VZW recovery doesn't even allow ADB to push anything so replacing the recovery is a key step. Why the PH1 firmware allows you to replace it with the Sprint firmware is a mystery to me.
I know right. I havent tried the hydra method @cigars
@jellyhead I'm not trying to root. I just want to make a combo file that has root in the system because it does have a permissive kernel but doesnt have SU access

Hi Gary unfortunately no I have not found way to 1. root the phe firmware besides using combination files and 2. my answer hasnt been answered either. I'm assuming your device Note 7 device has been blacklisted or blocked via the imei and model number. it sucks i know but I'm still looking and if not anything I'm considering building on the combination file because with combination file you can call and text but you literally have to install all your apps with adb and or sd card if you have one. its a bit of a pain but you also can root and change the model number too
