local calendar - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Call me paranoid, but I don't like the idea of keeping my appointments in the cloud.
The problem is, the stock HTC calendar reduces available options when I'm switching from a Google account to either the phone (i.e. HTC Sync) or local account.
Does anyone have any experience with the Google calendar app and local accounts? Is it possible to use it without syncing with Google? Is there any other decent calendar app that would work with a completely local account, with an occasional backup to either SD card or PC?

You can turn off synchronization for Google Calendar under settings.

Somehow on my phone this setting has no effect and Google keeps syncing the calendar.
And then I'm using several gmail accounts, so the events get scattered between different "accounts". I have no idea why a simple list of appointments has to be associated with any kind account.

I don't think you are doing it right when you turned off the calendar sync. Anyway, there is an app called Offline Calendar. Perhaps you could give it a try.

I know this app. It creates a local (offline) calendar, but does not do anything else, you have to use this local calendar as an "account" in some other calendar app, like the stock HTC calendar.
As to turning off sync, I don't think you can do it "wrong". You just go into Google account settings, tap on an account (if you have more than one, like I do) and then there are sync settings, you can choose whether to sync gmail, contacts, calendar, apps, etc. I uncheck all of the boxes except for gmail, since this is the only thing I need to be synced - otherwise I will not be able to read email and that's the whole point of having a Google account. In any case, the calendar sync setting is off and still the HTC calendar app syncs every time I add an event to a calendar associated with a Google account.

Two ideas to try:
1. Use Google calendar with sync turned off. See if it still syncs new event.
2. Stay with HTC calendar and use the offline new account created by that app. Add new event to the offline account.

Try a calendar on the play store that has no sync function........ Or, don't worry. Everyone syncs... If there were security issues, it would be reported all over.
I doubt Google will show up at an event you have scheduled and mug you. ?

Apparently the Desire cannot syc between Google and Outlook

I'm hoping someone can correct me on this, but having spent a week trying to connect with HTC Sync and posting numerous RFIs around forums I seem to have reached an inconvenient truth (for me anyway).
You cannot sync, and keep in sync, a single data set between the Desire, Google online and Outlook on the desktop.
Contacts and Calendar data are categorized in either "Google" or "Phone" accounts on Android.
Data in the Google account will only sync with the "Google" cloud and data in the "Phone" account will only sync with Outlook on the desktop through HTC Sync - never the twain shall meet.
So if all my contacts (and Calendar items) are "Google" contacts / events (as they are in my case as I pulled them down from my Google online account) they will not sync with Outlook and if all my contacts are "Phone" contacts (as would be the case if they came from an Outlook sync) they will not sync with Google.
This apparently leaves me with 2 data sets to manage - if I add a calendar entry / contact to the "Phone" account on the Desire (which if I remember rightly was the default) it will not appear on my Google calendar / contacts. I have to add a separate entry and attribute it to the Google account. And vice versa.
This is important for anyone who is not prepared / able to rely on the cloud to manage their data and doesn't want to have to enter it in duplicate on the Desire - I wish I'd known about it anyway.
I'm otherwise a big fan of the phone (and stuck with it for a year) so it looks I'm going to have to "give in to Google" - like that's not what they wanted when they crippled syncing.
Although the "Google Calendar Sync" app they provide does a good job of linking Outlook to online Google calendars, they don't provide a similar tool for contacts (and none of the free alternatives I have tried actually work afaik).
So I have to dump Outlook (not a bad thing) and move to Thunderbird with the Lightning calendar extension.
The TB "Provider" extension lets me sync with my Google Calendar online and the Zindus one lets me sync contacts. Which then sync with the Google account on my phone.
It works well but leaves me with no way to manage either through a direct connection to my PC.
What is the point of HTC Sync then?

Google Calendar wont sync

I have a rooted Galaxy Nexus running the Evolution rom and having trouble syncing my Google Calendar. When i make an event in either my phone or my computer browser, the event will not carry over to the other device. I added my exchange calendar and that syncs both ways with no problems.
When i go to settings > accounts > google > my google account, Calendar is not in the list to sync, I see Browser, Contacts, Currents, Drive, Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Play Music (in that order).
I have gone thru the calendar settings to look at calendars to display and calendars to sync and it shows up in there but its not actually syncing. I even tried to reflash gapps to no avail.
Any ideas?

Where are you seeing this? there are no calendars available? When I goto settings->accounts->google, there is no option for calendars. When I goto calendar->settings and select the google user id (i have multiple calendars) it reports no calendars available. Now the first account listed does state This account is being synced so your calendars may not be up to date, but its been saying that for a couple days now.

How do i sync with outlook and not google!?

Hi, I am at work sat here with 36 Samsung Ace 2's, that I need to setup and dish out to work mates.
Only problem is, on the calendar when trying to sync the calendar, or create a new event... it syncs with the google account setup.
We don't want them syncing with the Corporate account, that is used purely for one single app, but we can't remove the account without removing the app.
So were in a pickle, remove the account and loose the app, or keep the app and find a work around.
Any answers?
How can I change the default calendar to sync with?
I have tried under calendars to change the calendar, but every new event reverts to the Google account... help?!
THANKS !!

[Q] Calendar app

I use several gmail accounts and the Gmail app on the phone is set up to show messages from all of them. This is great, but at the same time the phone tends to associate all other things with at least one of these Google accounts.
My main problem is the Calendar (both stock and third-party, I tried Cal from Any.do). The stock app is constantly syncing with Google, although in Google account settings calendar sync is turned off. Moreover, the Calendar assigns new events to the account I was using last in Gmail. As a result, the Calendar is now a mess since all events are scattered between several Google calendars and none of them are syncing with the HTC PC software. That was a problem after Lollipop update when I needed to do a factory reset and lost most of the events.
Is there a way to separate the Calendar from any kind of account present on the phone? I do not need sync, I do not need to share, I do not need my calendar to be connected to anything, for me it's just a simple list of events and tasks. I would like to be able to back it up on my PC (and not any kind of Cloud). But this is only needed rarely and I certainly don't care about past events. What I also would like to do is to consolidate the events scattered over multiple accounts into one local, offline calendar.
I can't find a way to do so with neither the stock Calendar, nor with the Cal from Any.do. If anyone can suggest what to do, I will be very grateful.

Add exchange calendar to calendar app

I am trying to figure out how to add a exchange calendar to any calendar app. I've tried using the default app, Google calendar, and cal, but I don't see anywhere to add an exchange calendar. In play store both Google calendar and cal advertise they are capable of exchange.
Even in the phone "settings", under accounts -> add account, no luck
I'm using cloud magic for my exchange email and it works great.
Didn't know it's so difficult on Android.

I sync between google calendar and exchange calendar with a win program called 'calendar sync +' (free).
I use Agenda Widget for Android to combine calendars in one space as my Exchange is dealt with through Symantec Touchdown.
Have been using the app ever since Jellybean, and unfortunately it hasn't been updated since November 2013, so it worked best with Jellybean. It was unusable with Kitkat. With Lollipop, you will find that the calendar doesn't advance every day (sticks to when the phone has booted), so you either have to "Toggle Today's Events" daily, or reboot daily (I do the former).
Hope this helps.
