Hmmmmm. Very tempting. VERY tempting......
UPDATE: There, I took the plunge. Better result than on my test Desire 612 last summer (which I promptly bricked by flashing the wrong recovery on the device.) TWRP 2.8.5.0 works on the Verizon M9. Got SuperSU flashed and the Pro update finally took. All the diagnostic software asks for root permissions, so I'm thinking there was an existing superuser app somewhere on the device which I will now hunt down.....
FURTHER UPDATE: OK, here's what I can report. All the old limitations of the initial M8 post-root persist on the M9. Neither system nor the removable sdcard is writeable. (SuperSU must be set to grant on boot or diagnostic software will crash and take system with it, or at least slow it down. SuperSU pro does install; Root Explorer can now access root and system but not switch to RW mode. Titanium runs on internal sdcard but cannot write to removable media). However, now Root Explorer CAN read/write external media (which it couldn't previously).
Diagnostic software suite reports "wrong SU" but still runs ('cause I got to upload those logs or they'll come for me.....)
Guess we're going to need an insecure kernel to get read/write everywhere. For now, I'll settle for running Titanium Backup and continue to poke around.

Not about xposed, not yet at any rate. More about: (1) getting Titanium to work; (2) getting read/write privileges unfettered on the removable sdcard. Trying to pull the boot.img now.
UPDATE: Got the bootloader unlocked; have rw on \system and modified platform.xml enabling full rw to sdcard2.

Short answer, yes, it's faster.

How did you get TWRP to install on a Verizon M9? I thought Verizon locked down the bootloader on the contracted M9 and that the Dev version of the M9 did not run well on Verizon.
I am very pleased to read about your success. I am hoping that my next phone would be an 64GB version of the M9 running on Verizon with TWRP and a Pure Google ROM.

I want to flash a custom splash screen without bricking my M9. (I didn't care about bricking my Desire 612).
They haven't asked for it back yet and I hope they won't. We're supposed to test some of new camera updates, but they haven't pushed them out yet.
But, then again, not getting updates on a Verizon phone, that's nothing new..... [emoji6]

I gotta say my m7 with sense 7 from Santod was spot on with my m9. I can't wait to get this debloated to see what it can really do.

I'm S-Off, unlocked, with working root, which allows me r/w. So I'm able to debloat. Now I just need to have some patience in waiting to see what @santod040 comes up with for this phone. I'm sorely missing that Nexus feeling.

Maybe I am not following you completely...but why would you try to take an OTA when you are unlocked and rooted?
Second, I don't believe there are any OTA updates for the Vzw One as of yet.
It looks like you attempted to install an update for the European/International HTC One.
Why you are trying to do so, I'm not sure.
But you don't wanna install that, even if you could...

Well, I assumed you had the Verizon HTC One, since you posted in the Vzw One forums.
If you have the International One, you may wanna post in the relevant forums.
Folks will be much more capable of helping you with roms/software intended for your model over there.
The OTA will not install while you are unlocked and running a Custom Recovery.
Try finding a rooted version of the latest OTA version for your device in your device's Development forums.
That would be the best, most appropriate way to update the stock software while staying rooted and unlocked.

Thanks! I haven't yet.
I have gone back and forth about it quite a bit. (still thinking about it every day, lol)
Can't really give up or don't want to give up my Unlimited though.
Since someone was very kind and gave me a DNA a little while back, I may stick with it for now.
Still a vast improvement over the 'ol Thunderbolt, though I loved it too for quite some time.
There has been some talk of some very kind folks pitching in to help me get a One though.
So that way, I can keep my Unlimited and hopefully work on both the One and the DNA in the not too distant future.

[Q] Verizon HTC One upgrade path for those not on verizon

A couple of months ago I asked if there was an upgrade path to the latest update for a non rooted completely stock Verizon HTC One. The phone belongs to my mom who uses it on Ultra Mobile. Is there anyway to upgrade it to Kitkat. Right not it's on 4.2 Jellybean.

Well, this method used to work.
It may be that s-off is required to accomplish this now.

Thanks for trying anyways. Greatly appreciated. I guess my mom will stay on 4.2.2 for the foreseeable future.
Just updating for any future users who may come across the thread. The solution to my initial issue is as follows:
For those not on Verizon you can still update by using HTC sync. After installing HTC Sync and connecting your phone, it will prompt you for an available upgrade. Follow the onscreen instructions and the phone will be updated to whatever the latest update is.

So HTC knew I went from 4.x.x.x (while unlocked and s-off with root) down to 2.x.x.x to update to the newest through the app before going s-off and they took my phone to swap out. Cracked screen replacement. Sometimes they know but don't check.

Possibility of Xposed Working?

Hello, first of all I've never owned a HTC phone and so I hope nobody minds me posting a speculative question. Based on previous HTC phones, is it likely that Xposed and Gravity Box will work with the HTC 10? The reason I ask is I own some very sensitive earphones and so need the feature in Gravity Box to increase the volume steps to 50? Othewise being restricted to the normal 15 steps is quite punishing for my ears. Thanks.
The HTC 10 unlocked version will support bootloader unlocking so Xsposed will definitely be able to be installed. The HTC 10 sprint version should as well, sprint has never disabled the ability to use HTC Dev to unlock the bootloader. Verizon is another story. They block HTC Dev and we don't know if the unlocked version will work on Verizon that is still TBD. It should but i would never leave anything Verizon has a finger in up to chance. Another possibility might be like the Verizon M9 that people were able to unlock using a java card. Only time will tell for verizon but if you have another carrier I would not worry.
The phone needs to be rooted to install xposed. In addition to the other stuff needed, unlocked bootloader...and highly recommend s-off when that happens. Foolish to not S-Off a phone and start messing with it. Brick city.
Yes. Xposed is MM compatible.
Haven't heard yet if they'll update Sense Toolbox for 8 (Mikanoshi doesn't think he'll get access to a sense 8 dev device) and mods are a case by case basis for compatibility. Give it time and eventually most of the popular mods will get updated.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
xposed would be no problem at all.. You would use the sense toolbox though instead of gravity box. Although now that sense is so stripped down, I suppose some things would also work from gravity box.

yes, works perfect, make sure you get the DVDandroid version xposed installer that you have to use with it. Gravitybox works quite well with the HTC10, xposed settings in playstore is also updated to work, as well as XinternalSD, which will allow programs to write to the internal SD. hope that helps

Looking to root my Verizon HTC 10 to disable their stupid "Connected to WiFi" notifications (which perplexingly isn't an option to disable like on some of their other phones), but I'm not clear if this is possible yet... has anyone here successfully gotten it to work? I was reading note4 AT&T thread and found this, like i said do not take any updates!
AT&T released an update with security enhancements yesterday, any word about this and how this affects us?
I am not sure. I know that I have my OTA blocked; however, I too find it interesting that a sudden security update is released now about two weeks after the Verizon hack is discovered and rolled out. It is stuff like this that tells me that their devs know something that we have yet to discover.
This may work for you AT&T guys.......
Plus, the tools to finish this are already public.
You compile SamsungCID (in a KitKat tree), and use it to change the CID using temp root, then you can flash the corresponding developer edition aboot via ODIN. The reason I haven't release it is that there is an easier method.
Ryan has a slightly better method, he extracts the CID blob from the developer edition aboot, and places it into the current aboot partition, then changes the CID to match the blob. This allows us to convert without needing to be on the developer edition aboot's increment version to unlock.
I have opted to not release the former method, as it could result in people who don't read thoroughly enough bricking due to flashing the old aboot on a newer increment.

Make that two of us, I am typically very thorough when I read instructions and have a way of thinking outside the box when looking at issues. Not to mention, if we can unlock the darn bootloader on these things, many of us could do a MM OS update from a more unbloated and pure form.

We should be able to change the CID on any Note 4 so I don't see why this wouldn't work. Don't we need root to copy the aboot? My understanding was that the kingroot method doesn't work anymore after an AT&T update. It is now soft bricking phones. I am wondering if the security update could be removed by flashing the original 5.1.1 or maybe even 5.0.1.

Unfortunatly, once you are on 5.1.1 you are stuck there. I believe that all attempts to roll back to 4.4.4 ended either in failure or a bricked device. To complicate matters more, after king root released I believe version 4.2 it became successful and unstable. Once the phone reboots automatically or manually, you cannot make it past the boot screen. You get a display that tells you to return to an att store. If you root now, you have to reboot via Odin to get the phone up and going again. With all that said, king root is stable to use, but only for a few minutes before unstability and then ultimately reboot. I always have faith in the possible and know that there is and will be a way around all this mess for a permanent unlock bootloader and root.

With all that said, king root is stable to use, but only for a few minutes before unstability and then ultimately reboot. I always have faith in the possible and know that there is and will be a way around all this mess for a permanent unlock bootloader and root.

Yea, that's why I have been looking for the info that you were talking about. I want to see what I could do to help breath new life back into our phones.

HTC 10 EE Stock Recovery/Firmware

Hey Folks
I have a slight issue, I had a rooted HTC 10(UK EE) phone running firmware 1.80.91.1, which I wanted to update so I flashed a back-up from TWRP to restore OTA functionality, however, this backup was corrupted and the phone got stuck in a boot loop with no OS, hurrah!
I've sorted that however, by locating a TWRP backup of 1.21.91.4, which was the only one I could find for the CID EVE__001, this file was just a boot and sys.img no recovery, now I still can't get OTA updates as I'm getting the file system is corrupted error when trying to download the updates.
So I've hunted and hunted either to find a full back-up, recovery or RUU that will work with my CID as I'm S-on, I have had no luck, so I can no longer get updates for the phone.
So, does anyone have a stock recovery they could upload for either 1.21.91.4, or even better a full back-up of any of the x.xx.91.x firmware? I've been tearing my hair out trying to find anything above 1.21.91.4 and even that was just a partially back up.
Any help is muchly appreciated.
Hi, I am om EE uk but my CID is HTC__001.
I HAVE A FULL BACKUP DONE IN TWRP, WHICH YOU CAN HAVE. I WILL SORT IT OUT AND SEND YOU A LINK. DONT KNOW IF IT WILL WORK BECAUSE OF DIFFERENT CID, BUT YOU CAN GIVE IT A GO.
GIVE ME A DAY OR SO.
Sorry to resurrect the thread, @si86 I've having trouble restoring radio signal on my HTC 10 after flashing an incorrect ROM, I'm on EE also- I'd really appreciate a copy of your TWRP backup to try on my handset if you are able to supply, would be very appreciated! I'm able to change the CID to match, having been through them all recently! My bootloader is unlocked and I'm S-Off. Thanks.
@Tuesg Were you able to rectify your situation?

I've just hunted high and low to try and figure out why nothing will flash successfully to my HTC 10.
turns out to be this same issue, I'm showing as CID - EVE_001 on an MID 2PS62000
Any chance you could send me that link as well so that I can at least try and get the phone back to a usable state instead of being stuck in either bootloader, download or recovery.
My phone is Bootloader unlocked, but still S-On as I hadn't got that far yet.
Will i need to flash a stock recovery? and lock the bootloader again to get this to install properly?
It's really proving tricky as hell.
I got caught out a bit here as I was half way to using sunshine to s_off, and then I accidentally triggered an OTA update to Nougat 7.0.......
It never restarted properly after that and i've been unable to get it back to 6 or any other ROM at all as they all fail.
I managed to fix it, but only by switching to s-off and installing the EU edition software, I'm a tad concerned now though as I've yet to get the roll out of the 7.0 update, not sure if that's because of installing a different firmware or whether it hasn't been rolled out yet.
@si86 Many thanks for your assistance and sharing the files, I was unable to fix my phone after trying various avenues (100+hrs) so I swallowed my pride and went the insurance route, not worth spending more time on getting to work and I now have a rather nice device, yet unusable call/texts wise to play with alongside my nice shiny new one running 2.41.91.3 - I've rooted and S-off with sunshine, just trying to decide whether i'm going to play with some more custom ROMS again! Of course I am!
@Tuesg Kudos on fixing your issue!

You can usually do it straight from the SuperSU app itself.

Along with superuser usually comes with an app for configuring it, depending on how it was rooted. SuperSU is usually the most common although I much prefer magisk.
It will be obvious what it's called, either superuser, SuperSU, etc. SuperSU contains within it the ability to fully unroot.
If there's no app, and if it is a stock rom, and not a custom one, a factory reset will remove it. If not, you will probably need to either do some adb commands to remove it, or remove it using the recovery.

In short terms, yes that might work for banking apps but it won't work for future Android updates. You need a completely stock (untouched) system and SU changes that even if you choose to unroot via the application.
hi when i i tried that super user unoot it goes to Twrp bootloader and nothing in there says unroot or uninstall twrp bootloader
Hey guys Google pay still doesn't work says phone has been modified I am eve_001 software number 1.80.401.1 what can I do to make phone stock again

I've had that issue with both Viper and Maximus. Removing root doesnt seem to totally remove it, and certain apps still pick up ... something.
Going back to total stock condition is a huge pain in the unmentionables. Because quite a lot of phones don't actually have an RUU for thier CID (for instance mine, H3G__001) has no RUU. So complete stock, even from TWRP backup was never an option for me. Even though ROOT wasnt an issue, things like OTA problems persisted no matter what.
I had to S-OFF (worth it in general tbh) in order to go back to a complete stock condition using the HTC WWE version (HTC__001). In the end I just decided to stick with the ROM I have now, LeeDroid. It has the option to be installed without root from the get go, but these days I just use Magisk. It is so simple to hide from banking apps and even things like pokemon go, that it doesnt do any harm having root there.

Hi there,
I'm in the exact same spot as the guy above. I restored the backup he mentioned, but don't have the Recovery. Therefore my phone is telling me I need to enter decryption password and won't boot past it.
Would you be able to give me that backup too?
Thanks.
