In-Line Controls - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the HTC One M9 work with inline controls such as volume up and down? I know previous HTC phones never worked with volume up and down, only skipping tracks. Is this fixed in the M9?

That's a problem with your headphones and not the devices. You probably have headphones meant for iPhone, you need android ones.

As far as I know, it never worked with any headphones. Correct me if I'm wrong. Can you link me to a pair that will let me control the volume from the headset? Thanks!

That's because 90% of headphones are designed for iPhone.
These are designed to work with android but sadly they are discontinued http://www.klipsch.com/image-s4a-ii-headphones

I have Beats earphone the inline button works as Prev/Next on my M8. When I upgrade to M9 it become Volume Up/Down...Anybody noticed it? I like the original behavior Prev/Next. And that Beats is designed for Android.

Beats Tour with Control Talk

Hi there,
Bought a pair of the Beats Tour earphones with Control Talk for my HTC One X today. The Play/Pause button works as it should but when I pressed the volume buttons it does nothing...
I have read a post somewhere that HTC phones (especially the One series) will work with any earphones with in-line remote control...
It seems so strange to me that the One X delivers the Beats technology but does not work with Beats earphones...
Is it a pair of genuine Beats Tour? Try w/ an iPhone to see if it work. As far as I know, volume controls only work for the iPhone and iPod.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Try the Headset Button Controller trial app in google play. You can map out the buttons like long click for volume up, double click to skip tracks etc etc. Tried it with Desire HD's stock earphone today and it worked (Used DHD's stock earphone because I don't have any other headset with 3-button control)
try klipsch control.. free and full config.. even with other headset working..
I've got some ControlTalk Beats too and the volume control is the only thing that doesn't work. They were bought for an iPhone so I'm not entirely surprised. I bought the Headset Button Controller (think that's the name) App and it allows a lot of customisation, including skip forward/backward, but still no volume control.
It just seems like only the centre button works, not the extra side buttons.
can anyone show me where i can buy this for my htc one x ( Beats by dr.dre Urbeats ) in UK ? I found many sellers in ebay but the price not the same ( 35£ or 99£ )
Hi
Considering getting this. Does the mic and call answer at least work with this "HTC ControlTalk" cable? I know the standard Beats one doesn't.

Are you talking about Beats Tour or UrBeats??
The Beats Tour ControlTalk controls are designed for iPhone. Like most of the guys have said here, download a third party app to map the controls
If you're talking about getting the UrBeats/iBeats. then the ControlTalk controls work fine (I got a set of UrBeats for my One X and work great)

Beats
The HOX says its Beats compatible.
and whernever i use any earphone or speakser, the BEATS is activate.
So, is it necessary to have the Beats Earphones for getting the Beast Dre effect ?
or its built in already in my HOX. and can be same effect with normal earphone which came with HOX.
thanks,
Pramod

No it is not necessary to have beats headphones for the effect. It used to be in the old sensation xe/xl but not the HOX.

[Q] Best In-ear headset with Mic and media remote control compatible with Nitro

Do you guys know any headset which has mic and its compatible with our phone?. i need a high quality in-ear headset with mic and/or external media remote .

Anything else similar to the Sony one?
If I'm reading an ebook in with my Kobo app, the remote's button's don't "work", also it always says "Unknown" for song info. If I lock my phone they work fine.
On CM9 RC1.

I used the headset came with the iphone, but mic doesn't work, does anyone have the same problem?
I'm using a set of etymotic headphones designed for iphones and my mic doesn't work either. I think there is a small converter you can plug in between the phone and the headset that should make it work, but I don't need to use the mic and haven't really looked into it.

Same problem. It seems that headphones with the 3 button apple control do not work (mic + buttons except for the center button sometimes) and they don't even allow the phone's microphone to work while plugged in. I have used apple headphones and klipsch image s4i's.
The center button works fine for me. It's the only one that does. Using CM9, not sure if that makes any difference.
I use Klipsch Image S4A
best headphone for me so far
klipsch s4a
I had the intention of picking up the klipsch s4i when i was in bestbuy. The one i never go to happened to have the s4a which i did not know about. I've only had them a few hours but the main issue is finding a working remote, install the klipsch app and you can customize what the buttons do! Amazing headphones once again from klipsch, worth every bit of $45 premium sound and a android compatible remote with mic. I highly recommend them.

The best in-ear headphones with remote control

Hello everybody !
I'm looking for the good-quality headset with mike and remote control (VolumeUp/Down FF/Rewind and answering button.
Are there any really good one compatible with our great HOX ?
Thank you in advance,

Try the urBeats that comes with the HTC sensation xe the remote works well with the one x or else try the sony smart headset (wired)

I've tested today in 4 Sony's and HTC brand stores, Sony works like Ipone headphones - u can listen, but can't control, only one button active - start/stop. The same with HTC RC E190, only DrDre Monster in-ear recognized by stock player and PlayerPro - you can FF/Rewind/Start/Stop and answer a call plus better sound than others. There is no way to control sound level (volume) by DrDre monster as far as i know, i will try to resolve this by the ProPlayer settings.

I have heard that the HTC RC E190 works with the one x from the other threads and the sound quality is also good for its really cheap price !
But I personally use the urBeats that come with the sensation xe they work well and sound quality is good in my opinion !
And to control the volume I use the remote control app with the beats headset so the play/pause button can be used to control the volume..Press 5 times to decrease and 6 times to increase it !

Cool!!! Thanx, it's really works!
i have a phiaton ps 20 bluetooth headset. they are semi in-ears. you can adjust volume, fast forward or back songs and answer or decline phone calls with them. sound quality is actually pretty good. they can be pricey (in the $120+ range on amazon) but i did see them somewhere for about $70. my only complaint is no voice dialing function.
love my Jays a-Jays One+.. even though there's only 1 button, most audio players these days have options to utilize the single button with single/double/triple clicks so doesn't bother me in terms of control. and the main point, they sound great.. way better than the urBeats (or any Monster/Beats in-ear headphones for that matter) ... and are way cheaper
i have the sony mw600 bluetooth stereo headset. it links up to phone and controls music etc and also calls from it. also can just be a stand alone radio if needed. very pleased with it.
I'm using Bose ie2 (I guess) - the ones with remote control but not for iPhone...
In combination with headset button controller.... I really like it
sent from my HTC One X
I bought some NOCS NS400 - 3 buttons remote, but it's made for the iPhone: I can only use one button. I am very happy with the way they sound.
NOCS also has NS200 made for Android with a 3 buttons remote.
JP.
I'm currently using urBeats (came with my One X)....they sound pretty good and the remote buttons works perfectly...i've also got a Sony Ericsson MW600 Bluetooth headset but I haven't paired it up yet to test
For those who said that buttons don't work on their headset, I would purchase/download Headset Button Controller (or even download the trail version first). You can assign commands to the non working buttons on your headset remote...it's great for all those headsets that are designed to work on iPhone
I just bought NOCS NS200 as per the recommendation above. Got it for 40USD.
Got a pair of white NoiseHush NX80 for about £15. Awesome effect combined with the beats audio plugin on my One X. The a-Jays android app works with this. So double click skips to next track and triple click goes backwards. Click and hold increases volume and double click and hold decreases volume.
Gives an excellent performance and on the cheap.

I got those, but you cant change volume with those. Even tho there are buttons for it. But those Headphones are mainly made for Apple Hardware
With the default HTC Music Programm you also cant change songs with those headphones, but i got PlayerPro from playstore. In PlayerPro you are able to change the buttons of the headphones. But not all buttons :crying:
So i am able now to play/stop and skip to next song or skip 1 song back.
But i have to say the sound which is imo more important when it comes to headphones is very nice. I dont regret the buy at all.

The Sennheiser IE 8i In-Ear are very nice ... :good:
All, as far as I can tell, maybe no earphones or apps will allow me to change track via a button on the earphones......Maybe that is just the way the HTC one is setup.
..... I have tried a couple of earphones and a couple of apps that allow button assigning for the mic button, but every time when I double click on the button, it does not go to the next track, it just dials the last called number.
Please mention if you have a HTC One(not any other HTC phone) and are actively able to change track and then specify which special earphones and/or app you are using on this phone?
Many thanks

Definitely works with htc with track change
Hi All,
I have been investigating this issue for a long long time. Back with the HTC Hero you used to be able to get a "remote" that you could plug any headset you want into, but it plugged into the data connector slot. That doesnt seem to be possible any more.
What definitely does work is the Beats by Dre (UrBeats) VERSION 1. I have been told the new version two with flat ribbon cable doesnt work on HTC but you can pick up a version one set of beats. I think I may test this theory myself though because they look very similar.
You can usually pick up the original Beats by Dre for around $50 and they sound ok, not great, but ok. They originally came with HTC Sensation XE and other phones at the time. They are FAR better than the HTC branded headphones that come with the phones these days, but they arent great.
Every other brand of headphone ive tried the controls have not worked properly including the Klipsch image s4a and Jays ones. For some reason HTC doesnt like their button controller software and third party software doesnt work either, even the apps for HTC redial fix (the problem is that multiple button presses cause the HTC to redial last number instead of, for example, change track). As far as I know the ONLY solutions available if you want to track change is the Beats v1 (make sure you dont get iBeats, they dont work) or the HTC store ones with the track change button.

ON HTC ONE SV WITH BEATS BY DRE (v.1), 32GB SANDISK CLASS 10 SD, JB 4.2.2, SENSE 5 (stock OTA ROM)
I've been using jay birds now for over a year, on my htc evo, then on my one. They are bluetooth, have volume control,
can change the tracks back and forth and answer phone calls. Pretty decent sound too.
Every feature you want and they all work.
I've been searching for a while now and after buying and trying numerous pairs, these are the only ones that give you decent sound AND let you control the volume, skip, back and other functions like they are supposed to.
I have http://www.amazon.com/Beats-urBeats-In-Ear-Earbud-Headphones/dp/B00ECQ6ORQ and they work great. Can skip forward/back, pause, take calls. The sound quality is very good, seem to have good balance with highs and bass. The mic works well, too, and seems to have some noise-cancelling qualities. Callers that I've asked said the sound is very good even when I'm in a windy or noisy environment.

These are not as good as the Beats by Dre (UrBeats) for HTC in my opinion, have you compared? Sound quality is lower in the official HTC site ones, although they sit slightly better in my ear. Maybe just my opinion, anyone care to comment?

Yes these seem to be our only real option beside official HTC rubbish at the moment. I am taking a risk and trying out the UrBeats v2 which should arrive this week, in the hope they work like UrBeats v1 (that you have linked above). If they work too I will let you know. They do look quite a lot like the official HTC ones though, on the one hand seems promising on the other hand, hope the drivers are better.

Thanks for the suggestion and may use it as a last resort if you say it works, but I am averse to bluetooth audio because the bandwidth is low (i believe the same as radio quality) so normally doesnt sound great (the same reason bluetooth speakers are a bad idea as I understand it). Looking for a good old wired version.
---------- Post added at 12:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:35 PM ----------
It has ocurred to me (and I have done similar mods before) that you used to be able to buy a calbe with mic/controls on it that you could plug any old headphones into with a normal jack, and it just had a normal jack port at the end of the line.
Can anyone think of any reason that taking a cheap pair of HTC headphones with inline mic/controller and chopping off the buds and soldering on a normal jack wouldnt work? Seems like that could almost be a small business if it does (just a controller with headphone jack mod), since we are reduced to so few options as HTC users, and few of them have decent sound quality....
Might give it a go and let you know...have a few spare pairs of HTC controller headphones around...

Most beats by dre are compatible with HTC 3.5 mm jacks. Apple products do not work because the jacks are made differently, so there is nothing you can do :/ The app Headphone button control on play store can help you reassign buttons. good luck

Not all Beats by Dre are button-compatible. They must specifically state they are for Android or HTC. Many of the discounted Beats phones you find online are only compatible with Apple products. I've noticed that if the control pod (the block on the wire where the buttons/mic are located) is shaped like a diamond, it is ONLY Apple compatible. If it is a slim straight cylinder, then it is likely Android/HTC compatible.

Skullcandy 50/50 Mic3 Earbud volume keys not working.

So I purchased these Skullcandy 50/50 Mic3 Earbud off of Amazon for $22.48 and these are excellent earbuds. Problem is, the volume rockers can not control the volume. Doesn't matter if I'm watching videos with MX Player Pro or listening to music using the stock app, the volume rockers don't do anything. They don't work period. What am I doing wrong?
Has anyone tried MTX Audio StreetAudio IX2 In Ear Earphones on a LG G3?

I feel you cause I'm in the same boat, but I found a pair of LG Bluetooth headset for $20 on Craigslist. They all the necessary buttons you'll need. Don't know where you're located but I'm sure if you look on Craigslist everyday you'll find some good stuff.
The reason behind them not working is not a fault of the G3, rather it's due to the fact that volume keys on headphones are only designed to work on iOS platforms. I own the Sony MDR-X10, and I have the same problem. So yeah, blame it on Google.
