[Q] Netflix Bluetooth sync problem - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

When I watch any Netflix streaming video via Bluetooth stereo earphones, the audio lags behind the video by 200-300 ms (very noticeable when anyone's talking). The same Bluetooth earphones have no audio lag when I play videos that are on the phone itself, or when I stream from other services such as YouTube. Conversely, when I watch Netflix using the phone's speaker or using wired earphones, there is also no lag. The lag only occurs with Netflix and Bluetooth combined.
I don't recall whether I've tried Netflix via Bluetooth earphones before, so I don't know whether this problem predates the Lollipop upgrade.
Anyone else have this problem, or a solution?

I'll test this tonight worth my Bluetooth headphones.

Thanks. And I forgot to mention that I've tried the obvious fixes (clearing cache/data, reinstalling the Netflix app, re-pairing the BT earphones).

Sounds good. I've not had any issues with 5.0.1 yet so if I run into a problem like yours then we'll have a bit more to go on.
Without being able to do it now I'll educate a guess that if I have the same problem then it's a netflix.apk issue over a Bluetooth protocol issue.

No issues for me. Sorry buddy.
*I've tried netflix, hulu, amc, comedy central and Uverse and haven't had a latency on my headphones yet.

When you took the update did you clear your cashe through recovery?

No, maybe I'll try that. But I do see on various forums that many people, on various devices, have been having this same problem since 2012--a problem that's specific to the combination of Netflix and Bluetooth. Some people's Bluetooth headsets don't have the problem, though.
So I doubt it's related to Lollipop, but I may clear the cache just in case.
EDIT: Cleared the cache partition in recovery, didn't help.

Yeah, sounds like it's your headset and Netflix not liking eachother.

Could be. I tried a second BT headset and it had the same behavior. But it's conceivable that many kinds work with Netflix and many kinds don't.

Apparently this is a known, longstanding problem with the Netflix app. See the following thread (especially chrispitude's detailed post):
http://androidforums.com/threads/sound-delay-when-watching-netflix.822226/

I did a factory reset (wiping the cache from recovery both before and after), but I still get the Netflix Bluetooth lag. Oh well.
Netflix tech support says it's not their problem.

[Q] Bluetooth Streaming Audio Issues?

I'm having issues with distortion/cracking/popping with my One in the car. When I'm streaming audio through Google Music or Pandora, there is noticeable distortion whether Beats is on or off.
I previously had an S3 and that worked fine. This morning I paired my work iPhone to the car and was able to play from the on device music without any distortion. Next up I'm going to try an aux cable to see if it's a Bluetooth or phone issue, but I wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience.
I noticed major hissing with the beats EQ on. Turned it off and I don't hear it anymore.

I've got a 2013 Sonata with the Dimension navigation radio.
I suspect something related to Beats but I'll have to play around with it while not going along at 75mph.

Hmm, interesting. I'm assuming you're on the stock ROM?
Also, you said you still get the distortion even with Beats disabled, so do you think it's still Beats related?

Stock, with a bunch of stuff frozen. I'm a noob to modern HTC, so besides turning off Beats in Settings, are there other ways to tweak it?

Using Google Play Music in a 2013 Camaro and I've got no audio issues.
I just purchased the phone, but slacker worker flawlessly. Have not had a chance to try Pandora or other music apps yet.
Rush hour traffic this morning allowed me to do some additional testing. I found that Play Music is distorted with/without Beats and also regardless of how loud I have the Bluetooth output volume set. I don't have any full songs on the phone, so I opened the generic Music app and played back some of my ringtones. None of them were distorted coming over the radio, so I'm further puzzled about why Play Music would have such an issue.
I'm going to try Pandora on the way home to see if that is affected as well.
Another update: Pandora works great. Play Music is toying with me...

just got the phone less then 24 hour's and i had it crackle when i had it playing in my civc! it didn't do that yesterday, but today i noticed when i played deadmau5. maybe i had to turn it down one or two notches. maybe volume has something to do with it!

I've tried it as low as 50% on the volume bar. I'm thinking that the interference has to be with Play Music, Beats, and my car's amp. Or some combination of the two since my S3 did not have the issue, and my work iPhone plays just fine.

It's a [decent] stock system, so I'll have to check around for that info.
So now that I finally managed to phrase it correctly, there are a lot of other people reporting the same issue, and it appears to affect Sense ROMs due to the factory settings for the Bluetooth stack. AOSP does not seem to be affected.
https://www.google.com/search?num=20&q=htc+one+bluetooth+audio+distortion
I just got my HTC One from Verizon yesterday and noticed a horrible sound quality when streaming music through Bluetooth. I'm streaming to LG CM4530 stereo system. The distortion is just unbearable during high pitches. The problem persists regardless the volume in both the phone and stereo, the app used (tried Pandora and Play Music), turning Beats Audio off or even cancelling the EQ on the stereo system. I'm convinced that it's not the app because I just replaced my old and slow Droid 2 Global loaded with 2.3.4 Gingerbread and never had any problems with A2DP sound distortion. (Yes, ironic.)
Many point that the problem is on the stock HTC ROM, but I haven't hear of any fix so far. Any suggestion?
Sorry to revive an old thread, but have other users with the sound-over-bluetooth distortion issue found any way of solving it other than flashing an AOSP ROM?

Bluetooth streaming issue/ suttering

When I connect Bluetooth to my car and try to stream music it start stuttering/ skipping like crazy, every second or so. I've tried it with multiple apps, Spotify, play music and YouTube same effect. Seems like Bluetooth can't handle the bandwidth. Never had this problem with my Nexus 5.
Anyone else have this issue?

It hasn't been as bad a you describe but I have noticed some stuttering. Not enough to ruin my experience, though.
I got phone on 10-21. I stream Pandora all day in my work truck to a jbl change 2+ and have my bt ear piece for calls connected all day. I have not had one issue
Mine did it the first time I ever used it in my car, and it was unbearable. After day one though, the issue self resolved and I had no problems. I actually noticed it first using navigation over bt

Yep. I got this several times. Turning off/on Bluetooth was the only way to fix. Not ideal when doing 70 on the motorway.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Same problem here, it makes bluetooth unbearable in my car. ONLY my car, as I don't have any stuttering on other bluetooth devices. Never had a problem on my Nexus 5, only the 5X.
Edit:
For clarity, I am full stock, not rooted or unlocked
I'm having the same issues. It seems the worst when I have Waze running while beyondpod is playing. I don't have guidance enabled, so Waze shouldn't be playing audio.
After streaming for a few days, I don't have this problem anymore. Weird, but I'm glad it's working now. Try what someone posted earlier, just turn off and turn on Bluetooth.

That didn't solve my issue. Rebooting the phone did, however. There must be a memory leak.
There is a issue opened on the Google code page. I'm not skilled enough with adb to capture the logcat. I am not allowed to post links so just add

I experienced some stuttering over bluetooth in my toyota camry. Will test it further.
I could not reproduce the stuttering issues again until today when I was streaming music it decided to stutter as I read an email. Rebooted phone and it was fine.
Up the thread.
I just bought bluetooth earphones, I thought they were defective, so I replace them, but i got always the same problem, the sound is stuttering. And after some seconds, it simply goes blank, no sound at all. :/
I tested them on other smartphones and tablet, and they are working great.
I also noticed that if i put the nexus 5x really closed to the earphones (1 cm), it's working nice.
I contact Google, but they kept saying i have to contact the earphones manufacturer (Aukey). But it's clearly a bug with the phone.
There is just one thing I didn't try yet. It's to wipe the phone and flash the last android image (i read somewhere some guys fixed their problem doing this, where ota updates didn't).
Anybody got information or solution?
Thanks

Bluetooth music stutter

I've had some stutter with music playback through my bluetooth speakers. I have 3 and it happens with all of them. I have a subscription to Spotify and noticed it there. I tried Play Music and it stuttered too. I put a few albums on the phone to see if that made a difference but it didn't. It's not bad, just here and there but enough of a problem that I'm not going to put up with it. I did a reset but that didn't help. If it's a bad phone, I'll return it. I would think if others have had a problem I'd see someone commenting on it. Has anyone listened to music via bluetooth and had either an occasional stutter or a smooth experience? I've used the speakers with my Moto X and they've been good so I know they are ok. I appreciate any comments. I love the phone but need my BT tunes.
I've never used Bluetooth and have not had an issue here or there. It happens with every device out there. It comes with the territory of using Bluetooth.

I have to disagree, my xperia z3 was awful for this. So far I have not had any issues with my Pixel XL and I use it for my 1 hour commute twice a day aswell sporadically throughout the evenings/weekend. Could range be an issue for you? or perhaps a crowded 2.4GHz band?
I have the same issue. I just assumed it was the crappy headphones I use. It happened on the 6p I had. Seems it happens mostly when I put my hand on the glass window like I'm causing interference

Thanks for the reply, my phone is a few feet from the speaker and there is a stutter every few minutes. I'm at home, not a lot of network traffic. Apparently not a problem with others judging by the lack of comments. Thanks again.
If you have any xmas lights or similar (we have decorative LEDs) close to your speakers or between your phone and the speakers these can have an affect. I had to move my WiFi hub last Christmas as the Xmas tree was causing havoc!

Listening to music on BT headphones.
I've got a Huawei watch attached over BT. As long as I don't add a 3rd device playback is fine for me.
If I add a 3rd device, typically either a Mac or PC (e.g. Surface) then every 30 seconds or so there will be a stutter. Even though those devices aren't sending audio, there is enough chatter to cause an issue.
Yep - BT audio skips with my BT headset and 3 different BT speakers. All of these BT devices worked perfectly with previous phones, and I listen to music quite a bit, so it's truly a accurate comparison.
I have contacted Google and they have only suggested the most obvious things - none of which had any affect. Tossing cache, tossing all pairing and re-pairing. Latest was a Factory Data Reset and I just don't have the time for that now. Other Pixel owners report that same BT issues - some with pairing (which I don't have) and skipping/dropping signal.
I've found that 2 of the 3 speakers I have stutter, the ue seems to be OK. My son's Pixel had the same issue so it's not a bad phone. I guess I need to decide if I'm going to put up with it or not.
A cheap chromecast audio would fix this for you
I've noticed similar issue. Bluetooth stuttering. S7 never did it. Pixel xl does. Reboot phone fixes it for a while.
Might be Spotify memory leak. Not tested if Google Play also does it but will test that.
Same issue here with the bluetooth in my car
I have noticed the same problem a couple times, I cannot pin it down. I though it was the speaker, which is a fairly cheap one. I will test it more and see if I can find a pattern?
I just think BT for Android needs to be worked on. Same behavior on Nexus devices.
As someone pointed out a while ago, turning off wifi seems to stop the stutter. That causes you to keep an eye on your data use though. Hoping for a fix.
I will try that but I stream music a lot, that would seem to run up a lot of data.

Yea, that's not a very good solution.
My old headphones were BT4.0. the new ones I just got are 4.1. so far my newer ones dont stutter when I cover the glass. I still get some stutter here and there but i think that's just interference.
I have not experienced any issues with stutter or connectivity when streaming to my Lexus GS and paired to my LG watch - while using GPS/Navigation/Waze. I came from the HTC 10 which had MAJOR issues with this combination.

Bluetooth audio stutter/skipping

This is incredibly frustrating. I had none of these issues with bluetooth on my S8+ whatsoever.
So one annoying thing that stood out was the bluetooth on this device. It keeps skipping and stuttering tracks whenever I play it on my Bose QuietComfort 35. It's normal on all my other wired cans but I usually use the QC35 alongside my phone during commutes.
Just to clarify, I'll list down all the "fixes" that I've tried. Obviously NONE of them fixed, or even alleviated the problem.
Cleared cache (this one just doesn't make sense imo)
Removed battery optimization on my music apps
Turned off WiFi & Bluetooth scanning
Switch Bluetooth audio codecs
Updated to 4.7.6
and PLEASE... if you DON'T have this problem, do NOT post how you DON'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM here, I'm looking for fixes, not jokes. Thank you.
I also have a QC35 and I don't have any issue but I post anyway
Joking aside I'm using 4.7.6 and my QC35's firmware is 1.3.4 and using the HBC codec.
What's your bose firmware ?
What do you use as a music player ? (I'm using the default Google Play music)
And what do you mean my "It's normal on all my other wired cans" ? Why would wired headphones have stutters ?

Everything's the same as you except I use PowerAmp as my music player and SoundCloud for streaming (both stutters/skips as well). I stated that I didn't have this problem on my wired headphones just to clarify.
I notice the problem most when I'm commuting and I have mobile data turned on. It went even more haywire when I downloaded something on Google Drive. Hopefully it gets addressed with Android Oreo and the official Bluetooth audio codecs being implemented.
Oh bad me I read the you said it was normal to have stutters while being red... Night too short.

I just said that switching Bluetooth codecs didn't work.
I'm having Bluetooth quality issues as well, particularly crackling and skipping. I noticed that if I download a file while streaming the quality will drop dramatically and the audio stream will crackle like crazy. I have tried all three codecs in nougat to no avail.
Should I upgrade to Oreo to get this sorted? Do custom kernels cause issues with the quality?
Thanks.
OnePlus 5t, theOne 7.1.1 (stock basically), viper4arise and Dolby
Update: when into EX Kernel Manager (specifically under the misc I/O settings), and change the I/O from ZEN to FIOPS. Not once has the music stuttered since, though I have only tested on SBC. If I get more results I'll bring them in.
Please note - I am on blu_spark, and I honestly do think it may have been the cause of the bluetooth skips/scratchiness. I turned off Dolby Atmos and Viper just to be sure.
Latest Oreo Beta build. Stream bluetooth, Pandora, iHeart and talk on the hands free no problems here. Lexus CT200h vehicle.
Would really check your cars manufacturer website. Most have a section where you can download latest firmware to a USB and flash your car to ensure you have the latest bluetooth firmware.
Working flawlessly on my car.
Anyone have any experience with the Oreo update?
Since updating to 4.7.6, I've experienced the following issues:
despite being connected to a bluetooth device, sound still comes out of phone speakers
static/distortion for a few minutes when initially connected to my car (2017 Chevy SS)
Upon connecting to car bluetooth, randomly the phone will call my phone number
I can usually fix these issues by either going into airplane mode for a minute or two or rebooting. Sometimes, I have to do this multiple times.
I've cleared cache but made no difference and I don't want to have to factory reset after every single update. Is it possible to flash factory images without nuking your data? You can do this with Google's Nexus/Pixel factory images.
I've got a different problem with 8.1 and BT audio. After upgrading to android 8.1, suddenly my car audio system doesn't receive songs data (artist, song, album). It's just display "no title".
Does anyone encountered similar issue?

I am able to make phone calls just fine but I can't stream audio to save my f**king life. This happened right after the upgrade to 8.1 and latest update did nothing to fix this nor did it mention the issue. Has Oneplus even acknowledged the issue?
Im actually having the same exact issue, with Uconnect on a 2017 Chrysler 300s. Bluetooth skipping and sounds like crap. Have tried pretty much everything so far and no fixes
this what happen to me ...bluetooth to speaker klipsch ... sometimes got crack sound ...i mean wtf

I'm having problems with Bluetooth in a ford fiesta 2015. The phone is on 8.1.0 stock, no root. The device itself connects to the car perfectly, but fails to download the phone book, and says I loose signal when trying to make a call. The device registers that I've asked to call a certain person but nothing else happens afterwards.
I didn't have this problem on 5.0.4

Car Bluetooth Stutter

I can't get music to play properly with car player. It stutters 100 percent of the time, calls work. Music works fine on headphones and Bluetooth speakers.
I did network reset, cleared cache. Checked and unchecked media, contacts, etc in Bluetooth settings.
Used other phones to see if car player has issues. It works with other phones.
This seems like a OnePlus issue, even other models in past have been marred by this.
Is there any solution to this.

It's an aftermarket media player, there are no firmware updates from manufacturer.
If you search you'll find this issue in a lot of OnePlus phones. I tried all suggested answers, nothing worked.
Could it be Bluetooth version that's causing this... My other Bluetooth devices are bt 4.0 and 5.0... Car player is bt 3.0... Maybe using an external BT adapter is the only way out.

Hi, I've had the same problems myself, but I might found a solution... And it is downloaded music on my phone storage!!!
Yes if I was streaming from YT music as I have premium subscription, most likely I could not listen to anything because I think interferes with the Bluetooth streaming. So I've downloaded a few songs and tried to listen from library on the same app and worked as a charm!
What can I say.. try it and see if works for yourself!
Best of luck!
I stream music all day everyday in my car. I use the play music app to listen to my library. I don't have any issues with stutters. I am also using an after market unit. The other day I did have a problem with my device not playing music when it paired. I got so frustrated since my Bluetooth was pairing with my headphones that I got the manual for the aftermarket unit and found the instructions to reset it. Resetting the unit fixed my problem. Have you tried completely resetting your aftermarket unit?
Sounds like your media player in the car is the issue. With my pioneer head unit I did have to reset it before it would pair and work correctly.
I'll try resetting the HU... Meanwhile I found an aux BT adapter lying around and it's working fine, that'll be my backup option till issue is sorted out.

I'll try some music player app and play from internal storage... Keep you posted
Resetting HU didn't work... Neither did playing downloaded music from internal storage.
I think OnePlus while implementation didn't fully address compatibility issues ... Most car HU are older BT version.
