Gallery annoyance. - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone tell me how to set All Photos as the default album in the Gallery?
It's really annoying it defaults to timeline.
Also when trying to upload a picture on here I have to go through the editing option and choose to edit the photo in either gallery or photos apps.
Is there a way I can just get it to upload without having to go in and then come out of the editing app?

Why on earth you're using TIMELINE instead ALBUMS ?

I know how to select it manually. I want it to default to Albums. I remember on the M8 you could hide parts of the gallery you didn't want to see. It seems you can't with the M9.

I did not find any problem having ALBUMS set as permanent DEFAULT though.. Are you sure you have HTC M9 HIMA ?

are you too getting the facebook photos you save in the camera shot folder, inside the gallery application, and not in a specific "Facebook" album? I am finding this pretty annoying

I never in my life opened that FB app before uninstalling it - but please check its settings how to disable that "issue"..

Have you checked Acc & Sync either?

Not sure I understood what you mean but in the app settings there is nothing related to the creation of album facebook related.
Anyway, thank you for trying.

OK. I realized what that stupid FB app is doing.
So, the problem is:
That FB saves its photos in the DCIM folder which is intended for HTC camera, and this eventually causes all those photos to pop up in Camera shots album..
Can that stupid FB to stack all its images in any other folder except DCIM though? Check the FB settings for that.
P.S. As a work around - something like "save FB photos on external sd card" option there?

Thanks for your help.
Yeah, this is what is happening and unfortunately in the FB there is nothing I can change. With my previous Moto G this wasn't happening so I believe that is something going on with HTC gallery.
Anyway, nevermind

Unfortunately, there is nothing like that under settings-apps-facebook.
An easy solution would be installing an alternative gallery (like quickpic). I might consider that...
Thank you.

Sorry for late reply. Yes I had a HTC M9. I got it on 26Mar but returned it and swapped it for a Z3 on 31st. Too many bugs for my liking for now. I will wait a few months for the firmware to mature then get another M9 or M9+ (if one appears)

Pleased to learn you are content with Z3..

funny as I only found this today...
I had been backing up with htc sync to outlook.
but found when i reimported them in - I was missing 6 contacts.
tried the same with the export/import
all contacts - but it has put a '-' in all the phone numbers
i.e. 07000000000 becomes 070-000-00000
im pretty sure if you have a google account and you sync your contacts it should be saved in your gmail and then you just sync again after you wipe/flash rom/switch phones (given its android) and it should work.

To solve your phone number problem.. you should edit your contact and use a +31 (country code) first.. In the future.. this will stay the same when importing.
Ah - thanks - good tip!

[Q] How do I get rid of this crap in gallery?

When I open the Gallery I'm seeing image galleries with pics that have the small Picasa logo in the bottom right corner... some of them are even old pics from a Blogger blog I used to have. No matter what I have tried, I can't get rid of them.
1. I cleared cache and data for Gallery and Media Storage and rebooted... did not fix it.
2. Google+ Instant Upload is not enabled.
3. When in Gallery if I click the menu then "Settings" it confirms that Google Photo sync is OFF.
4. Settings | Accounts and Sync | Google... "Sync Google Photos" and "Sync Instant Upload" are not checked.
5. I went online to the Picasa site, deleted everything, then repeated step 1... did not fix it.
Any help would be very much appreciated. This is really irritating.
EDIT: I managed to now have it reduced to showing only two extra galleries now... (after #5 plus choosing "Refresh" from the menu in Gallery) ...but it's still showing "Profile Photos" (with a Picasa Logo) and photos from posts I've made on Google+.... UGH.
Google+.
Delete data.
I hate that too...and it's such a damn annoyance to see those images to me =/

I went to Settings | Apps | Google+ and deleted Data, went back to Gallery and did a refresh... nothing is different.
EDIT: Nope... this didn't fix it. I thought it did for a minute, because I cleared cache/data from G+ then Gallery... but still no dice.
Maybe I'm wrong...I was sure that's how I got rid of 'em.
But I KNOW the refresh is what put them there initially for me.
Maybe google+ delete data...gallery delete data?
And don't refresh.

This is what I did just now:
1. Settings | Apps | All
2. Gallery --> Force Stop, Clear Cache, Clear Data
3. Google Plus --> Force Stop, Clear Cache, Clear Data
4. Home button to home screen
5. Open Gallery
Apparent success...
I opened the Gallery again and it's clean except for 1 wallpaper I have in a folder on the phone, which is what I want (just wiped the phone because I rooted it).
Hopefully it'll stay that way.
EDIT: Still that way even after opening Google+ and letting it sync up and all.
Ya, I've gotten it twice now.
Once when I uploaded a google+ photo manually.
Once when I pressed refresh in Gallery.

Lol don't sync picasa =P uncheck it and Google + photos as well....
Tho even if u uncheck them the album boxes will still be there just that the picasa images won't show
- Google
Best option I've found is to disable Gallery and get Quickpic or equivalent.
Then you'll have a program that'll respect .nomedia and can exclude top level directories so you don't have to drill down and put a .nomedia in everything else.
OR - try this maybe... find the directory where the images with the picasa logo are stored on your phone, and drop a .nomedia file in it (since I'm guessing it's probably a temp dir or such, and not where your original files are). Then clear cache/data and such... and when it rescans it SHOULD skip that folder.
Had that same problem and like iGoogleNexus said:
Go to Settings -> Accounts & Synchronisation -> <your google account>

Sorry, doesn't saw that point.
But that's the way I solved that problem on my phone.
Login to your Picasa Web Gallery and delete everything, since it doesn't seem like you use it.

How the heck do you just view pictures on the actual phone (as opposed to cloud)

I tried to look for a permanant setting for the Gallery to just show pics on the phone itself but it keeps reverting to "ALL" view where it shows my picassa / dropbox. Thank you!

Now i just have to figure out how to NOT SHOW picassa images

Settings>Google>'Your E-mail here'>Picasa
I don't know if it actually works since i don't use Picasa. but it's worth a shot.
My Sync Internet doesn't seem to sync
desont seem to work ;(
I managed to do it with an app called QuickPic and some adjustments in the settings!
After downloading Quickpic, you go to Settings>S Cloud. There, as the first screenshot shows you disable pics and video sync. (I belive you did that already.)
Then, you go to Settings >Google then you select your mail address and you'll have the options as you can see on the second screenshot. Untick picassa and google photos.
Now it is possible you still see some of your cloud pics on your device. I'm pretty sure you can't delete some of them with the stock galery app. So use Quickpic to delete them.
Hope it helped

Make sure the synching for the Picasa albums is still off, then go into Settings > Application manager. Select the All tab, find Gallery and hit the Clear data button. Next time you open the Gallery, it will take a moment to rebuild it but the Picasa albums should finally be gone.

HTC One M8 Gallery Issues

Hi, if anyone can help with my issue id really appreciate it.
ITS DRIVING ME NUTS
I believe this issue not to be specific to the HTC One but Ive never had it before.
The issue is that I keep getting random photo albums appearing in my gallery.
The photos look to be cached images, say from apps and that sort of things.
Everytime i go in and delete them and check back later, I have more.
Ive searched Google and cant find a solution.

Install quickpic from the play store and "hide" the folders with the offending images in.
They are usually from apps that have images in them.,
Once hidden in quickpic they will not appear in gallery
Just hide the album like duvall87 mentioned.
That's the only way.

I have the same issue this Cache folder keeps coming back and most frustrating part is that all these photos are uploaded to G+.
I have another issue as well with SD card. I delete files from External SD card and it keeps coming back this happens only when I copy some files from my PC to SD Card.
Anyone has any solution to this?

when in your google account it says in syncs data from

-apps
-automatic back-up

experiment with unchecking some of these like uncheck the syncs app data of chrome

Settings/Apps/Messaging/Force stop

I dont find "Premium messages" anywhere.
Maybe it's a setting in your carrier settings? Do you have an app placed on your phone by your SIM card?

I said to look for the Setting in all the apps I listed, not to start clearing the cache.
The setting on Android 7.1.1 can be found in the Special Access settings for apps from the Settings menu.
So it's setup as a permission, as opposed to app setting, as was in previous versions of Android.
Just type SMS in the search of the app.

Yes in Android 6.0 the setting is in a different place but it is still somewhere around.
Just type SMS in the search field of the Settings app.
There is no point in reinstalling the app, you already cleared your cache which means there is a setting saved somewhere that is overriding the behaviour, reinstalling the app won't help in that case as said setting will still be there.

Sorry for the late answer. Seems like my memories of Android 6.0 are hazy and the menu is somewhere else as I mentioned.
Seems like quite a few people can't find it since the Setting is burried deeper than usual: https://www.google.bg/search?q=andr...ndroid-google&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8
