[Q&A] ASUS Zenfone 2 ROM - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Q&A for ASUS Zenfone 2 ROM
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for ASUS Zenfone 2 ROM. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!

For Zenfone 2 (ZE550ML & ZE550ML)
New Firmware Version WW-2.12.40.11 is out!

32 or 64 bits
Hi, thanks for your work
Do you know if this Zenfone 2 ROM is really 64 bits ?
The kernel is x86_64, but I'm not sure that the Android OS itself is also 64 bit.
Antutu and Geekbench both detect 32 bits Android, and can't do 64bit bench.
I guess that the kernel has all 64 bit capabilities but the OS is still 32 bits.
Can you confirm ?

It is my understanding the Stock ASUS Rom on the Zenfone 2 is 32 bit. I suspect in the future we will have 64 bit ROMS. The really early screenshots of Antutu show an entirely different build which was 64bit, but as is the current production ROM is 32 bit.
The kernel does reference x64:

Update, per url https://software.intel.com/en-us/bl...tify-the-image-is-32-bit-or-64-bit-user-space
I ran adb shell getprop ro.product.cpu.abi which came back:
x86
I ran adb shell getprop and the relevant lines that came back are:

[ro.product.cpu.abilist32]: [x86,armeabi-v7a,armeabi]
[ro.product.cpu.abilist64]: []

Is there any Custom Rom for Asus ZenFone 2?
I would like to know about the custom roms for new zenfone 2. i'm going to buy this phone. anything like AOSP/Cynogen?

Not yet. Unlocked bootloader will hopefully come soon, at which point, dev work should begin in earnest.

Can i Flash Cyanogenmod on Zenfone 2?
I want to install cyanogemond 12 on zenfone 2.But how do i do that?
I need steps to flash it

Edit: sorry I saw above posts.
With a 32bit ROM the phone won't be able to use the entire 4GB of RAM. Or does the kernel support PAE?
Are these stock roms 64bit enabled?

The kernel is an 64bit kernel, easy to see that with CPU-Z from play store.

There is no :
*Custom Recovery for ZF2
*Custom ROM for ZF2
* Working Xposed Installer for ZF2
Simply, because ASUS didnt released Unlocked Bootloader yet. But they promised they will.

AOSP for Zenfone 2 needed badly !
This is a great phone but the only negative is too much bloatware.
I wish we had some AOSP 64-bit ROM for Zenfone 2.
Any idea how to build it ?

Hi Guys,
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, I am a newbie driven here by the sheer frustration that comes with all the bloatware ASUS ships with the otherwise excellent Zenfone 2. I understand that there are no custom rom's available yet for the "ASUS Zenfone 2 ZE551ML Z00A-2.13.40.13.....", is this correct?
Many thanks in advance!

Woohoo! Your the bringer of great news dude, thank you!
I'm an IT technician who recently moved to android for the 1st time, with that I have not rooted an android phone before or performed any kind of rom installation. Would you or anybody who knows please point me in the direction of a known and trusted "how to" on rooting this phone model without encountering malware or having to complete silly surveys? I basically need a start to finish "how to" from rooting to installing this rom.
Thank you!

[GUIDE] Flashing Remix OS on Teclast X16 Plus

A fellow member asked for instruction to getting Remix OS installed on Teclast X16 Plus, thus a simple write up below:
1) Download the necessary drivers - https://www.mediafire.com/?p723or9hxip5eu8
2) Download the Remix OS ROM (latest version from Teclast page B2016062701) - http://www.mediafire.com/download/84723txtl4gklzu/B2016062701.rar
3) Install the drivers in this exact sequence below
- iSocUSB-Driver-Setup-1.2.0.exe
- IntelAndroidDrvSetup1.10.0.zip
- PhoneFlashToolLite_5.5.2.0_win32.exe
When you reached the PhoneFlashToolLite installation, you will be prompted to override some of the earlier drivers installed, it is fine to override and proceed
4) Run "Phone Flash Tool LIte" , click "Browse”, go to the folder where you have downloaded and uncompressed the Remix OS ROM, choose "flash.json" and click ok

}
5) Shutdown your X16 Plus from within Android, after which press simultaneously "vol up + vol down + power" buttons, release them when you see the words "DNX FASTBOOT MODE" on the screen
6) Connect your X16 Plus to your PC / laptop, if doing it for the first time, wait for the devices to be detected properly and drivers installed, by the end of which you should see on "Phone Flash Tool" a connected status and "Start to Flash" box turning blue.
7) When the flash is successful, the progress bar will turn green and shows 100%, the tablet will be disconnected automatically as it reboots, you can unplug the cable and let it boot up. The whole flashing takes about 2mins 45secs for me.
My views on the pros and cons of Remix OS:
- real easy multi windows tasking
- very solid battery life during standby
- UI is fluid and responsive
- yet to encounter an app that is incompatible and apps run well
- if a mouse is connected, right clicking will bring up functions similar to that of windows and mac os
- still a work in progress as some settings that is considered basic are not available, like "Battery"
- does not support widgets
Thank you very much.
in process, thank you for the howto. Only one thing, the intel android driver you provide,is blocked by my windows 10. He talk about an untrusted origin...downloaded from intel´s webpage.

Hi. A new x16 power owner here. Any update on root?
Is there any chance this would work for the X16 Pro?
Hi. I tried to install this but can't seemed to install well. Just saw the remix os logo and then it got shut down. And I lost my windows os on the dual boot session at the beginning.
Anyone knows how do I get my windows os back and got this remix working too?

this is NOT for X16 Power, it is for X16 Plus, suggest you follow Teclast's instructions on how to flash win10 back onto the tablet.

Hi Potatohead,
I just want to understand well (cause I'm able to root phones or tablets, but only with a detailled methode from guys like you ^^):
Is it a multi-languages rom ?
It it a rooted rom ?
Is it a dual boot Windows/Android or only windows or only Android ?
Is it "attractive" for a basic use (I mean, for my girlfriend ^^)
Thanks a lot !
Rino (from France aka the no go zone !)
Manage to get windows reinstalled. Wonder why remix is not available for x16 power though. Will be great if able to.

It's halfway working and there's a couple other threads about installing it. Several different versions of that model make it more complicated. You may need to swap in a different gpt.bin to make it flash if it's a c2e3 model. Camera, rotation, and sound wouldn't work for me. YMMV
Hello,
Installed in my Teclast X16 Plus and for now very happy because it is very fluid.
This Rom does not have root access, right? Does anyone know how to root this version?
Greetings and thanks

Hi JuanSan10
I received my X16 Plus 2 days ago and started to hack around. I managed to get a working TWRP and flash SuperSU from there if you're interested in gaining root privileges on it.
I would be happy to create a post to share it in the developers section but XDA rules doesn't allow me to post there before I posted 10 messages in general section (too bad for this time, though I understand the rule)
Would you be interested by my TWRP for the X16 Plus in order to be able to flash superSU through it ?

I registered on XDA exactly to do that, create the tutorial and provide the recovery. Unfortunately I discovered the "5 to10 messages before to post in developers section" XDA rule after my registration ?
It looks like I can post yet though, so I'll create the tutorial and host the TWRP image soon enough.

Nope. Clearly stated that this is for ZenFone Max Z010D...
If you want to make the ROM work, search for 6.0.1 based ROM and use MIUI patchrom to build MIUI. However, I doubt it'll work on x86...

Any chance in the future we will get some sort of desktop like EMUI desktop for custom roms?

Unfortunatly this is a rom specific feature - which won't be available until some project like lineage decides to do something similar, however you should be able to mirror your screen through wifi or hdmi - did i mention the new builds (b5 los, b2 rros) includes free form window support?

we'll try to improve the app stability in the future.
But for now the emui camera app is only meant for basic picture taking close to stock camera quality snaps.

I'm using OmniRom Beta 2 and it's bloody fantastic, just about everything functions as expected and it's quick as hell. My device won't enter deep sleep though, any ideas?

If you requested the unlock code before they closed the request page then your code is good, the unlock codes don't expire it's the site that expired as in there's no way to request it off Huawei themselves anymore

Running RROS and the IR blaster doesn't seem to work. Is this an issue specific to this ROM? Does it work on LOS? Thanks!
With the announcement of ParanoidAndroids Oreo ROM (currently only for Sony devices), is there any possibility of us getting it on our Mate 10 Pros or is it too early to tell at the moment?, I know you guys had super stable PA ROMs for earlier devices such as the P9 & P8 Lite :good:

Hey @fi4tch
Any chance you could get us the global Rom
I've done a search and there is one preinstalled in European ver of the phone and from what i see xiaomi didn't release even stock global Rom mb you will know if we have to wait or just hope for some developer beacuse xiaomi eu won't ne supporting this device Cheers have a nice day
Hi,
As the owner of the Redmi Note 8 Pro bought fro the official Xiaomi Store in Europe/France, I would like to say that the global ROM for this phone exists.
As it is officially released in at least France, Spain and Germany I would say that chances are, the Global ROM will show up pretty quickly. My guess is : for the next official update, we will have it.
If there is a way to "extract" a whole ROM from a phone, I would be glad to share the ROM provided in my phone.
Regards.

Hi,
I could do that, but that would require to have an unlocked bootloader.
I have applied to get one, but that will take another 5 days or so.
When I have unlocked bootloader, Global ROM might already be available.
If not, we'll see
Regards.

ProtonAOSPAndroid 12 ROM for Pixel 2 - Maintained by @EnesSastim
Spoiler: SPECIAL THANKS TO
@Lunarixus on XDA (using his device tree, mentorship, and fixes. Wonderful work)
@RealOkabe on XDA for his build process, we only reached bootable state thanks to his work.
@ReallySnow on XDA for his work on Android 12 vendor. I consider him my teacher, and most of the Android 12 heavy lifting was done by him.
None of this would've happened without them.
ProtonAOSP is a minimal Android fork (custom ROM) focused on UI/UX and performance, with a touch of privacy.
Screenshots are attached.

Installation
This ROM is currently distributed as OTA zips. Flash it the same way you would, in a custom recovery. Don't forget to wipe all data using "fastboot -w" or using my tool before booting the ROM.

Any news about this rom on walleye?
Thank you!!
Yes waiting for the walleye support
Hello, many thanks for this works, unfortunatly i missed the link.
2 questions, can you send me link to donate for the walleye developpement of this proton aosp unofficial rom ?
Also, is this would work with locked bootloader ? or does not making sens with the configuration of vendor from 11 etc...
Also if u have another test build could you provide it.
Thanks.

Currently the ROM is in in unknown state @Dollscythe is trying their best to fix it so no links are currently available as the ROM wasn't currently usable and and no nothing is flashable if your bootloader is locked for anything to be flashable your bootloader must be able to be unlocked or set in unlocked mode otherwise the device is unflashable and to donate to them its PayPal and the link

I wouldn't recommend re-locking it but I know on the original you could but I would wait until @Dollscythe finishes up if they get the chance as things happen and they are supporting a phone they don't have so time is needed give them a few days hopefully they get a chance and they can answer better then I can as they are building it

Ok many thanks, no rush at all really, this would be perfect to have at least one stable build with this feature and the classics proton aosp options (more option on the permission manager, the press squeeze, and other things). after all (to me) all will be good.
