sdcard and lollipop update - T-Mobile LG G3

Is there a fix to get the sd card working on lollipop i have searched the OTA thread and could not find anything relative to it. All my music and pictures are on there and would be nice to have them back.

The external SD card or internal?

I'm going to suggest the usual factory reset. I've had no issues with mine. Have you tried reading the card through a computer? Maybe something happen during the update that wiped it or messed up the format.

I would research to see if there is a safe way to reflash KK and wait for the OTA. Maybe you'll have better luck with that.

I think there are two problemz with the external SD card on this Lollipop build.
1. Permissions which I think the play store app fixes.
2. The format must be FAT32. I don't think I've seen a fix for this, unless you want to reformat your SD card.

My SD card did die as well. I'm not sure if it's related to this update or it was just it's time. Mine couldn't be read by anything. I have sent it in to Lexar for replacement.

Mine works fine. When I installed the 20b ROM, I did a complete wipe of everything in TWRP except external_SD. Installed the system, modem, boot and bootloader images and booted up.
Had issues with some apps like DoggCatcher being unable to write to external_SD despite that being the save data path. Ran the app I mentioned above and now all works fine.

It requires root though.

How big is that card, the only thing holding me back is the reports of 64G+ non FAT32 formatted cards not working... I use the phone as a FTP server or sorts and need larger file support than FAT32 has given me.

I am using 64GB card and it works as it's supposed to be.

Just tried using the app and had no luck.
Twrp also said that my sd card is not being read and it applied a patch but no luck either.

[MOD]App2ExtSD2 [Works for all U.S. Galaxy S3!]

This is a hack that that allows you to swap internal storage with your external SD card so you can increase your app data storage.
All credits go to original i9300 App2ExtSD Hack by mattiadj. I simply hacked it to work with U.S. versions and also I've added code so it will disable this feature when you don't have a microSD card inserted (app storage will default to internal when no microSD card is inserted).
E.g. If you have 16GB internal storage on Galaxy S3, you can install this witih a 64GB microSD card and swap the storage and get 64GB on your app storage instead of 16GB.
Before you can use this, you will need:
1) Rooted Galaxy S3 (SCH-I535/SPH-L710/SGH-T999/SCH-I747) or also Canadian versions too (i747m, etc...etc...)
2) A ROM/kernel with init.d support!
3) I've only tested this with TouchWiz-based ROMs, so it should work on stock ROMs and any TouchWiz-based ROMs, not sure on CM9 or CM10.
4) You must use the FAT32 or EXTFAT zip file below, depending on what format your microSD Card is in! (e.g. if you have a FAT32 microSD card, use FAT32)
To get this working, simply flash the zip files in your CWM Recovery:
Download and Details:
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-t...-external-microsd-for-u-s-canadian-galaxy-s3/
If you are on stock ROM or any TouchWiz-based ROMs, you can flash my new HighOnAndroid kernel to get init.d support on your phone here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30718496
If you do not have init.d support, you can also enable on any rooted phone by using Script Manager, here's a quick tutorial:
I recommend you to FORMAT your microSD card once to get camera working flawless before using this hack!
How to disable this:
If for some reason you are having trouble, simply delete /system/etc/init.d/11extsd2internalsd.
OR
if you leave your microSD card out during boot (then re-insert it after), your phone will work as normal (internal storage used for app data).
Sounds awesome thanks

Is it best to wipe first, or will this move all the app data from the internal to the external for you?

It is best to do a wipe to start on a clean slate, or you can also copy the contents of your internal to external.
OR, I like using Titanium Backup to backup app and its data then restore after putting in the microSD card.
it works great, thanks for the mod, will report if I find any problem w/ it.
Great work max! I was using stock rooted rom.. Now I need to look for one I like that has int d support.
Thanks for this though appreciate it!

Would it be possible for you to create a Stock kernel with just the init.d supporthe?
My SD card is reporting "vFat" as the type......is that FAT32 or EXTFAT or neither? lol
yes let me see if i can upload it tomorrow

I meant format. Sorry about that. Autocorrect got me again.
This is great! I'm curious if this mod sticks if I flash an updated/new rom? Do I need to flash this zip after I flash the rom? Also, what happens if I wipe my phone when I have this mod? Do I need to re flash as well?

SD card error

I have a 16gb sd card that was working PERFECTLY until yesterday. I had my phone rooted and I decided that it was getting too cluttered so I unrooted it and that's when my sd card quit working. It says "preparing sd card checking for errors". I rerooted it and it still doesnt work. Thank you for any help.

You likely have a corrupted file structure on the SD card...and may need to format the card using a PC and adapter...
That should fix the card...if not...the card may be damaged...g

If the pc can see the card as a drive. ..then yes...just copy over your data...
But if the pc can't see it...then the card may be trashed. ...g

External SD card issue.

I have an external sd card. It needs the fix for kitkat. But can not use the fixes in the market they all need root. How are you guys dealing with this issue.
You just have to deal with it until root is achieved, there is not way that I'm aware of to fix the KitKat SD card changes without root.
I don't get why we have to wait for root. If the phone supports 64gb sd card out the box why is this an issue. People that don't have xda experience will be thinking something is defective. Correct me if I am wrong.

Yea it's truly starting to get annoying. Another thing I noticed is we have no cast to screen ability with chromecast.

Yes I noticed that also. You shouldn't need root to fix that issue. Most people don't root there phones.

Dedicated TWRP thread?

I've looked all around and can't seem to find a thread for TWRP on the D851. Does anyone know if there is one?

Having the same issue.
Good to know I'm not crazy. It's weird, the file structure is still there. I've even backed up, rebooted, verified everything and then suddenly gone. I might have 5 backups and randomly 2 or 3 get hit. Is there a way to report stuff to the twrp guys directly?
