VoLTE Not Present on Dev Edition yet??? - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys,
I've got the Gunmetal Dev Edition M9 and I can't seem to get VoLTE to work on AT&T. Works fine on my iPhone 6 Plus, but when I pop the SIM into the M9, no VoLTE and my AT&T account still has it provisioned. Any help is appreciated guys!

Interestting. Didn't Des' recent tweet confirm the DE M9 had VoLTE?

I think it does, I just think it has to be activated somehow, probably via a software update. Hopefully this isn't an issue for those of us with unlocked/developer editions running on AT&T.

Nope. Looks like you have the T-Mobile version. I have the unlocked version. That setting isn't there.

Its disabled in system/customize/acc/default.xml. Can edit it with root.

Well, in System/Customize/ACC/default.XML, my device has this line that stands out to me:
Code:

true

Yours may possibly be set to false? If so, try changing it to "true" and see if that works.

Does that need root? Maybe someone can post a tutorial on how to accomplish that edit?

Yes, and it's simple, use root explorer, navigate to the file, press and hold on the file and select: open in text editor and find the line.
Probably easier to do it on a computer where you can Ctrl+f and find that specific line. If you post that file, I can do it for you.

Thanks. I'm good. I'm not rooted. Not sure if I want to do it just yet.

I've currently got the gunmetal dev edition as well, and in my default.xml it's actually set to "true" but the option does not appear in phone settings. The ROM on the phone right now is Viper 1.7 and I'm wondering if something in their ROM has that feature 'hidden'. I'm not sure what to check next. I'd be much more interested in getting VoLTE working than Wi-Fi Calling. I'm switching back and forth between T-Mo and AT&T sim cards at the moment.

Any news??

2.8 firmware and VoLTE
Has anyone gotten VoLTE to work on the latest 2.8 dev edition rom. It worked on the older firmware, but I wasn't able to use the same method on the new firmware. Was anyone else successful in enabling VoLTE? Using T-Mobile M9 on TMO converted to dev edition.

You sure about it working on 1.32 developer edition? I had problems receiving calls and the only rom it would work on was the 1.32 AT&T edition (and now the 2.6 AT&T edition). I tried the 1.32 dev ruu and volte still wouldn't work.
As far as I know, 2.8 Developer edition still doesn't support it. Not only do the dev roms not support it, but if it somehow gets turned on on your account, you won't receive calls.
Anyway, all that said, I think it will work on the 2.8 firmware, but it's just that the rom doesn't support it.
ICE (custom) defiitely supports it as I've been using that for about a week with no issues.
Either that, or flash the AT&T 2.6 rom (only currently available in the form of an RUU.exe, so you'll have to be s-off for that option to work.
Or, if you're rooted, I can send you the files from the AT&T rom that should get it working, but it's going to be dirty. You'll need to just copy the AT&T files to the same location in your rom (overwriting the existing files). I got it working by doing this after the AT&T update came out but before ICE added support for it. Obviously, the easiest would be to just flash ice 3.1.1 or later.

Thanks for responding. It worked fine on the 1.32 dev edition ROM on T-Mobile. I'm already S-Offed and cid/mid converted to full dev edition. When I enable it on the 2.8 rom, the option doesn't show in settings and when I receive calls, it switches to H instead of 4G/LTE. I'll just wait till next week for the official T-mobile rom I guess. I'd rather keep the Dev edition though for the faster updates and less bloat, but I'd like VoLTE back as well.

So you had the setting on the 1.32 dev edition? That's so weird. The settings for me were the exact same in both 1.32 and 2.8 dev editions.

All I did was enable
true
(changed it to true) like it said earlier in the thread and it enabled the VoLTE setting on the 1.32 Dev edition ROM for me and calls remained on LTE.

Gotcha. I don't think I checked that setting when I was on the dev edition. They were all set to true on the custom rom I was using though and it didn't make a difference. I didn't even think to try it with the dev edition.

New to this website(not flashing), I just wanted to make sure I was on track, ive had this sprint g2 for a few days now and while trying to flash a couple of 4.4.4 roms I got stuck on boot screen as well as a bootloop but managed to always get it back. Recently, I flashed the Cloudy G3 2.0 rom and so far is the only one I got to load. Im fine with using stock android but my main concern is getting a service to work(have yet to get another sim so cant test right now, would rather KNOW it would work once I buy it). I see you recommend using Cloudy G3 and I wanted to know which version was best, right now I just have the 2.0 rom installed with no data with instead of saying Sprint it doesn't detect the sim and says roaming indicator off. I would like to just be able to use T-Mobile or straight talk for talk, txt, and web(not much web, Comcast business class wifi ). Am I at least half-way there b/c every post I read about unlocking is helpful and all but requires stock rom or flashing another and I just wanted to stick with cloudy and get it up and running, just didn't know if I was on the right track, any advice?
I have two questions:
1) It unlocks CDMA, GSM or both?
2) Does it work with carriers outside US?
Thanks in advance.

1) CloudyFa says its for GSM.
2) Yes, it does work very well with carriers outside US. Myself used it at various countries outside US.
Thanks.
I'm confused...... either this doesn't work or no one here on the Sprint variant cares to sim unlock their device, or is this a repost in which someone else posted how to unlock and I just must have missed it? I only ask because no comments, thank you's...which I understand that part since most people on xda are unfortunately ungrateful in terms of having enough respect to thank the individual who helped them, or took time out of their lives to make something and share it.... but no confirmations that it does indeed work..... guess I'll just have to go ahead and try it out then.
so does this work? i have a sprint g2 that i just got. I have to fix the busted screen then i want to unlock it for tmobile. thanks!
I'll let you know in about 15 mins. What your screen is cracked? I thought my phone was broken because the screen was all black and would not turn on and I read every thread and no one seemed to know how to fix. Only solution I found was to send it in. But then I just took phone apart and unplugged the battery a day boom it turned on

I did this a while back on my Sprint G2, it works on T-Mobile. I switched to T-Mobile on the 15th. Only GSM though, which is still 2x faster than Sprint's 3G at least for me.
So go ahead and enjoy!

OK so I used this method to unlock the sprint LG g2 and while going into the dialer settings and changing the settings while I didn't use the settings that op suggested I switched to I believe gsm preferred and then went into the apn settings where the dev of Cloudy rom has edited in a bunch of different apns and t-mobile did work it just wasn't at speeds that we are used to this day and age in my opinion.. really not worth it to me. Tried using Verizon and while the apns popped up for it I couldn't seem to get it working. May just be the settings I was trying. But All In All The Method Does Work Just The Speed Is A factor

Yes, but I believe it actually requires more work, check out the unlock thread. It has a detailed explanation of how to do it. I prefer CloudyG3 as it does not have Sprint junk installed.

I found it earlier as well, thanks. I do not like bloatware either, but I need "stock stable" operations of my phone. I was planning to root it, so the thread gives me what I need. Not sure why it did not register for me before, too much info. I saved a link to it a week ago.
OM
Regarding the "stock stable" comment above: CloudyG3 on the G2 has been rock solid stable, and much smoother performance than the stock ROMs that I tested when I first got my G2 several days ago (ZVC was on it, it updated to ZVD, I never bothered with the ZVE update, but I did roll it back to ZV8 for some testing before I committed to installing CloudyG3).
The G3 UI is awesome, far better IMO than the G2 UI, and performance has been amazing. I installed the Dorimanx kernel and tweaked the Extreme_Battery profile a bit using STweaks and so far it's been nothing but pure awesome and I'm very happy with it.
Haven't had one issue since I did this about 3 days ago, and in fact the battery life has been steadily improving as the ROM "settles in" which is expected in some situations when that's done. I had over 7.5 hours of screen-on time yesterday and that was with only 88% on the battery when I unplugged it. I looped "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" 3x in a row with screen on the whole time (obviously) and sound muted; that movie is 2 hours and 15 mins long start to finish (including the credits because it has not one, not two, but THREE scenes during the credits).
I'm VERY happy with this CloudyG3 ROM on this G2 of mine, and as noted above and in many other posts, if you install CloudyG3 2.0 on the Sprint G2 the only thing you'll have to do afterward is put in a GSM SIM card and that's about it for it to work. All the "unlocking" stuff has been done with this ROM ahead of time - it's possible to stay pure absolute Sprint stock on this but getting that SIM unlock functional can be quite problematic, the instructions are "simple" but they still don't always work out. I made several attempts to do it with my Sprint G2 when I got it and finally gave up after reading all the positive reviews of CloudyG3.
If you want pure stock Sprint ROM action, you're going to have to work to get that SIM unlocked and it's not going to be easy - there's no "click this, click that, you're done" type solution, unfortunately.
Unless of course you take the "click this, click that, you just installed CloudyG3 on your G2, you're done..." route.

Making sure I'm doing this right
Hi all,
I just want to make sure I'm doing this right. I'm relatively new to rooting. Updating the firmware / radio is something I've never done before, so I'm just going to guess at the information I need to provide. Sorry if I leave anything out.
I have an m7vzw running SlimKat version 8.0. It's android 4.4.4 and the baseband version is 1.12.41.1112_2. My phone is S-OFF and I have TWRP installed. Can I just keep SlimKat installed, download the latest firmware / radio.zip in the second post, and follow the fastboot instructions there to update? Or do I need to revert to stock, then update, then return to custom?
Thanks so much for your help.
(I just realized it made a new thread for me. The post I'm referring to is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485319)

Yes, it has been discussed in that thread. When you flash firmware only, you do not need to change roms. I would personally do a "fastboot erase cache" command before rebooting into system after firmware flash

Awesome. I just wanted to get another opinion because I found some instructions elsewhere that said it was fine and some that said it would brick my phone, etc... Anyway, I really appreciate the help. I'll clear the cache too like you suggested.

We will have to wait for HTC to release the next version of sense.
I am having issues flashing the firmware. I flash the firmware as directed in the thread and flash 5.28.605.2 through Fastboot. Fastboot appears to work as the bar fills up to the last 1/10th of the progress bar. After that the instruction is to use Fastboot reboot bootloader From there I reboot the phone.
When I reboot back into the Bone Stock ROM after flashing the firmware it looks like the firmware remains as the 4.10.605.3 version in the "about" page of the phone. It does not update to 5.28.605.2
Can anyone help me?
Reboot to the bootloader / hboot screen and read the text there. OS-######.
Any way to disable one Mic? It seems one of mine is broken and it is not in warranty anymore. I'd just need for calls, elsewhere it's working. Thank you.
Hi guys,
I'm a new here and I have some questions about updating. Sorry for stupid questions. I've red many instructions and now in my mind mixed all of them. )
I could't find full instruction for updating (HTC One M7 from Verizon), step by step. Always all instructions begins from the middle, missing many things.
I have used HTC One M7 m7lvw from Verizon with Android 4.4.3
I'd like to update up Lolilop 5.02 (6.22.605.3_M7_WL_L50_SENSE60_MR_Debloated.zip) from Santod040.
But I confused about steps of updating. There are a lot different things, I'm just lost.
Steps to upgrade firmware and ROM (as I understood):
1) Nandroid. What is it? No information on first page. I guess this is saving your own info but not sure. If I don't have my own info can I skip this step?
2) Unlock bootloader with custom recovery. How? No information on first page. I guess TWRP 2.7.0.8 or newer is related to this section.
3) Wipe everything. For what? If I'm going to install new ROM why I need to wipe? And it doesn't info how to wipe.
4) Update firmware (downloaded: m7vzw_6.22.605.3_LP_Firmware_NoBoot-NoRecovery-combo.zip). The instruction is clear on page 1.
5) Update ROM (downloaded: 6.22.605.3_M7_WL_L50_SENSE60_MR_Debloated.zip). Flash the ROM and reboot. How? No info.
If I did mistakes (for sure I did) please correct me.
Thank you.

Thank you.

Are you s-off and rooted? If not, just install HTC sync and plug your phone until your PC. If the phone is sick it will update automagically
Hi Guys,
In your opinion what is the best ROM for M7WLV? I have HTC One from Verizon with version 4.4.3 and it has never updated. Now I'm trying to figure out what version of Android to choose for updating. I don't know how will work the phone with new updates. I mean may be it will work with low speed, lags, loose stability, and etc. Could you please to share with your experience to make me right choice. Thank you.

The FAQ thread has the answer for you. It also has other odd frequent questions asked. It having slow downs lag and instability is because of the apps you install or maybe power saver enabled? My wife's phone is stock and only had slow downs with apps that clogged her phone's memory up. I didn't know which did it and just factory reset the thing and the lag was gone.

yeah im using the Android Revolution HD rom.
Wild guess: you are on latest ARHD and you didn't update your firmware to 3.28.401.x, aren't you
Lol, we really need a sticky or something for the latest update. Or the ROM devs need to include a warning. (Not that im saying its any of their responsibility)

Not going to help mate, the people don't bother to read, that's the problem.
All the developers can put a warning in THIS BIG and the majority of the people will still scroll past it to just download the ROM in their rush to be "cool hackerz"
There is plenty enough proof of that already, developers clearly state in RED in their first post, THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH VERIZON and within the first 10 replies an idiot will come out and ask "Will this work with Verizon?"
Always read the last several pages on any rom you flash. You will always see any current issues or hot topics that way.
Read read read. That's a requirement for this hobby. ?
update post. I switched roms and still having the same problems. I'm using venom now.

Ok first thing, goto the bootloader and check what the OS field says. If it is anything under 3.XX.XXX.X, then your need to update your firmware. Otherwise the problem is something else.

Won't it give the OS version for the ROM he has on which might be 3.x anyways?
I also think it's outdated firmware on his part, radio firmware needs to be updated in order for data, mobile, wifi, bluetooth etc to function properly. This guy can't be bothered so I don't know why we bother either.
ARHD - 10 to 1 he used 21.0
Venom - 10 to 1 it's 3.0
But we should guess these things because he doesn't answer anyone when asked. What version was he on before? Most likely a 2.x but we won't know that either because
He didn't take note of it before he flashed away
He doesn't want to make the effort
It's easier to just expect others to do everything for you.

I think when i flashed IC 5.0.0 without updating the firmware, my OS version still said 2.XX.XXX.X.Though It is as you say the radio firmwares need to be updated.
Changed to the new one once i flashed the update.
But yeah, you'r right, not many people willing to search the forums. The same issue has been discussed at least 20 times now. With 5 threads on the 2-3 pages of the Q&A section. I found my solution within maybe 2 mins and after reading less than 2 pages of the ROM i was updating. to.

Oh ok, I thought maybe it took that information from the build as well which would show the ROM's version(3.28.401.7) kinda like doing a getprop
I only flashed a custom ROM once and honestly, didn't even have a look at the OS in bootloader and even if I did happen to look at it the version probably wouldn't have shown what we're looking for now(I was updated to latest firmware so didn't have issues)

The bootloader pulls it probably from the hardware chip or something and then matches, if it doesn't, it shows up in RED. I could be wrong though.
Getprop pulls it from a .ro file on one of the partitions.
I had a massive heart attack when i first got the phone though. Couldn't unlock the bootloader as well since some partition detail was messed up. Talked to some Dev at HTC, and a day later a very convenient 'GPS' OTA shows up and all is good after that. But before i contacted HTC, i thought maybe flashing over some OTA is gonna sort it for me, the phone was on 2.22.1540.4 and i flashed over the 2.22.1540.3 OTA. Was stuck in RUU flash mode for a few hours and couldn't find anything on the forums, the only way to boot the phone was to use fastboot oem boot string. But it would get stuck in the RUU mode after every restart. That is when i noticed the differences on what the OS field says.
Once the correct OTA was flashed all was golden.
Im now waiting for the Dev edition or GPE to get Lollipop and im gonna convert to that SKU.

Yeah perhaps it does get it from boot.img or something similar, even then the new ROM flashed already contains those version numbers so I just figured it'll show the ROMs number and not the old OS version. Either way... It's cool. Like I said I never actually bothered to look at the OS Version there when I flashed Venom, had it on for 2 days and went back to stock(converted to Dev Edition).
GPE Will no doubt have it faster but I don't want to convert to GPE. Personally I'm not a major fan of "vanilla android". I actually like Sense. So hopefully it won't be too long after GPE gets the update that it'll roll out for Dev Edition.
That said, I'll probably do the exact opposite of what I just said and convert to GPE anyways just to see what Lollipop is like

 I was just thinking that... yet somehow I doubt it, next post will probably be to ask how he does that.
Oh well, we should probably stop high jacking his thread even though he started it and doesn't say anything in it himself.
I've never seen so many people not read the threads before blindly flashing things, seriously.

HTC One m8 screen issues

So basically i wanted a google play edition of my one m8 which i bought from koodo (a canadian carrier) running android 4.4.3. the first thing i did was to unlock the bootloader then i used the all in one tool kit for the m8 to flash twrp 2.7.0.2 then i rooted.
i then tryed the firewater method to get s-off with no luck. so i just figured id flash a custom gpe rom. so i picked up skydragon v3.0.1 running android 4.4.4. everything worked great except now i cant even slide in the navigation drawer from any app on the left side. its like theres a 5 pixels vertical line where the touch screen is not responsive. i cant even scroll on this vertical line of pixels. so i tryed installing Stock Google Play Edition (KTU84L.H4 ) running 4.4.3 and still i have the same weird problem.
i also checked with developers options to see the pointer location and found out the pointer just cant get past x position :30. which means its actually 30 pixels not 5.
here is a screenshot showing the vertical line:

That is odd, I've never seen this on a device. Have you tryed doing a full RUU rather than just flashing a different ROM?
my device is not s-off so i cant flash gpe RUU directly thats why i had to flash a custom gpe rom. I actaully cant find my carriers RUU to return back to stock
thx for your reply

Koodo is Telus owned. You should be able to use Telus RUUs.
thank you. yes i figured it out and found TELUS files here: http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
its a zip file i am not sure how to proceed to be honest because im not sure this is actually an RUU. it seems to small, its only 441mb i should rename it to PGM something and put it on the root of my sdcard go to bootloader with my device relocked and thats it? can i do this if im s-on?
i was really hoping of getting my phone running gpe
thanks!
yea i just checked this file that i found on htc website is marked as crc its not actually the ruu.
what should i do?

I'm guessing you didn't make any backups? Could you get infromation from the bootloader such as model, CID, etc? Maybe then someone could help with which RUU to try if there is one availible.
You could look through Here and see if you can find a backup that matches your device.

This is my mistake totally, and I'm sorry for that.
I'm super active helping people here, and didn't even think. RUUs are only available for US versions.
I've looked for stock ROM backups for Telus, but I can't find one. (I have one, but it isn't totally stock, my apps and info are in there. Sorry)
Did you not make a backup before you flashed the GPE ROM. You should have. Just sayin. It says to do that on every ROM and mod thread here in step #1.

It's a zip file, so you should be able to flash that in recovery.
BUT, I'm not positive about that.
I would push it with ADB to be safe.
first of thank you so much for your help guys!
i managed to get gpe working including the left side of the screen. what i did was simply flash elementalX gpe kernel 1.08 and now everything is working perfecltly.
im running gpe 4.4.3 i cant get it to 4.4.4 because its a custom rom and not the actual gpe full conversion (since i cant get it to s-off). it kinda sucks that i cant upgrade for now but i guess itll have to do until a custom rom for android L is available
thanks again for your help guys

It's no biggie dude. The only difference between .3 and .4 is the eye camera stuff. to tell the truth, I haven't even tried any of that new camera stuff out at all yet.
yea its true but i still got it working . i installed skydragon then installed the elementalx kernel and now everything is perfect.
the one thing i prefer in skydragon is how i can clear all in recent apps.

[Q] Modding on HTC 10

Hi,
any leak, prevision about modding for this device?
I mean, will CM, AOSPA, AOKP etc support it officially? How is the situation with the other HTC's flagships?
Can it be unlocked as M7 with HTC dev site?
Thank you guys

Bit early considering we aren't even positive what the final product's hardware will entirely be Can't wait though
can't wait too that's why i have written xD i don't know what to buy, my s6 is the worst phone for modding and updates, 1 year and i still have not rooted anything! I was getting used to root the first day when i was buying new phones don't want my next phone to be like s6

Exactly that's what I'm afraid of, too. If I decide to buy a new phone, I'd like to compile ROMs for it by myself, too, but therefore the vendor, device and kernel tree need to be published by HTC. I've just been looking around how custom development for the HTC One M9 looks like. Although I couldn't find many ROMs, there are official Cyanogenmod versions and open device and kernel trees. Thus I could compile many ROMs for the One M9. This gives me hope regarding the HTC 10. The Galaxy S6 instead didn't have no huge moding posibilities. There's only an unofficial, unstable device and kernel tree alongside a bugy CM-version. Just like the S6 the S7 probably won't get huge development support as well. This is what gives me hope regarding the HTC 10.
The only question I'm currently asking myself is if I should buy the HTC 10 or wait for the Oneplus 3 which will be published later in Q2 2016. Compared to the OP2 and OP1 it'll be a bit more expensive but it'll also be better equiped. Furthermore the price will probably be much lower than the price of the HTC 10. What are your expectations and what have you been able to definitely find out so far?
I'm still tryng to figure out what to do...lg has dropped support for rooted or bootloader unlocked device in italy, and the g5 seems to be a bit strange te me, i mean, it's not as premium as g4..regarding oneplus devices, for the 1 and 2 i read about bad screens and something else wich i don't remember, never saw one...i'd prefer staying on a strong brand...samsung obviously is exhiliated from any decision...sony maybe but no xD never liked the screens in the past...
My old nexus 5 make me wish about a decent nexus around 5" screen, I'd really love it, especially powered from a snapdragon 820 cpu..
Mi5 is lovable, but, you know...it's xiaomi...china brand, china support, 30 days for travelling a device if something happens, and that is for 2 times...its frightening xD
Htc 10 seems to be the best choice, ut will surely be premium, even if it does not have a good camera i don't care, just bought an eos 700d xD i just hope there will be a lot of modding, that is why i asked here
Htcdev.com is still working good for all the other htc, it must have decent modding, i think I'll go for it. At least, that's what I'm thinking now...but who knows

Yeah, Xiaomi is a brand I've been looking at over the last two years. I recommended Xiaomi phones to friends who wanted to have good and cheap devices. They are lucky all together but the only phone by Xiaomi I'd buy is the Mi Note Pro as a phone should have 5,7 inch in my opinion. I'd also like to have an AMOLED-Display in my next device so I hope HTC will release a bigger version of the 10 as well. The LG G5 is not really what I am looking for since it's a bit strange to have several components you can choose from. I think I'll buy a OP3 when it's published as it'll probably be more developer friendly but maybe the 10 by HTC will convince me, too. I'm really excited about the upcoming devices especially because my Nexus 4 from 2012 becomes slower and slower. Very anoying. Maybe a new Nexus will be released at the Google IO this year. This would be awesome. Anyway, I hope the potent upcoming phones will come sooner than later as I don't know how long my N4 will survive.
Very informed you guys are. I like this thread cause' I think a lot like you.

Also looking for an answer on this: I was tempted by the Galaxy S7, but the huge issues I've had running anything but TouchWiz based ROMs on my S4 (and so issues running anything Marshmallow based) have put me right off.
How easily moddable have HTC phones been in recent years?

The M7, M8, M9, and A9 are all very easy to do basic modding on. Getting s-off and deep modding is a different story. On the M8, at least, you can flash custom ROMs and kernels without s-off, so basically everything most people needs

does it mean that with m9 if you do not s-off you can't touch system, boot or recovery partition? ( i'm still leaving in the time when you did fastboot oem unlock and everything was ok )

No, the things you can't do without S-Off are:
*flash unsigned firmware packages
*flash firmware packages that don't match CID/MID
*flash RUUs that don't match CID/MID
*change CID/MID
*restore "locked" status (without you can only get "relocked" status)
*restore "software status: official" flag in bootloader (flag sets to "software status: modified" if you flash anything)
What you can do without S-Off:
*unlock bootloader (via HTCdev)
*flash recovery
*root (via superSU package or your favorite custom ROM)
*flash ROMs

By flashing TWRP Recovery then flashing the current SuperSU package ( or use the built-in TWRP option to flash SuperSU if available)

Is this a big process? Is everything already available? Does any part of the rooting process wipe the device? If so, may make more sense to just do it right out of the box to avoid losing info
TWRP can already be found and downloaded; at least if one will look for it at the right place . I already downloaded it. SuperSU can as well be downloaded for MM devices. By this I'd guess the root procedure can be done as it always has been.
