[Q] Language settings on imported device - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello all!
I just bought a zenfone 2 from eglobal Central for £250. I done some research on the company. They are Chinese and they export devices abroad to customers. What I'm trying to find out is, will the phone come with Android in Chinese and only Chinese? Or will this be the same as any other brand new android device, where you go through initial setup choosing language and location?
I am just not sure if android devices built for use in China will come with a specific Chinese only version of android, if that was the case, could I flash the device?
Any advice on this from anyone who has bought an imported device would be much appreciated.
I have to say £250 for a 64gb 4gb smartphone is a bargain!!
Thank you!!!

The phone is Taiwanese so it'll come with their language. But as soon as you power it up it'll give you the option to choose your language. Only one app stays in Taiwanese and ZenUI gives you the option to remove it. And yes 250 is a great deal. Paid more for the 32gb.

Thank you for response I appreciate it. Can I ask which country you are using your zenfone 2 in??
Cheers!!!!!!!!

USA. Phone needs root and even if it has the 2.33 processor is locked at 1.33, but all an all is pretty fast and ZenUI is pretty good too.

Wow. Why does it need root and why is cpu locked 1.33? That's strange.
Thanks.

Root to proper set CPU scales and dunno on why does it stays on 1.33

So when you rooted your phone did you get the cpu to run at 2.33ghz?
I guess you are right with this phone being so new there is not a lot of info for this device yet.
Thanks!!!!

I haven't rooted. Reason why I don't know what's going on. Buy yeah phone is new and I'm in no hurry.

You have to gain root and most likely boot loader unlock to be able to flash new ROMs. Currently there isn't root available.

Yeah, tried rooting with the Zenfone C method but no luck. We will have to wait a bit more. Just trying a couple of things. Soon things will get better. [emoji1]

Go to the setup wizard and run that, it's in app drawer. It will allow you to choose the language as if you did a factory reset.

Its simple scaling...your cpu idles at 1.3Ghz simply because its not on a demanding cpu task, as soon as you open a 3d game or an emulator your cpu bumps to 2.3Ghz , yes the phone is "caplable of running at 2.3Ghz" no that dosnt mean it will run at 2.3ghz 100% of the time.

[Guide] Huawei Ascend Y300 Unlock & Root

Huawei Ascend Y300 Unlock & Root [How To / Tutorial]
This great little Android 4.1 smartphone has been released to the German market a week ago. At a price tag of merely 150,00 Euro, it's a steal.
But no fun without root, right ?
Now, Huawei locks and secures the bootloader, which makes flashing a custom recovery impossible without messing with the bootloader code itself.
Luckily, i found out that you can request a bootloader unlock-token on the Chinese Huawei website. After unlocking with
Code:
fastboot oem unlock XXX16-digits-codeXXX
we can flash a china-made (aka chinese-language only) ClockworkMod v6.1, that has been compiled for the Y300. After installing SuperSU from CMW, you GOT ROOT.
I have written an extensive dummy-style tutorial on my tumblr blog. Unfortunately, the forum wont let me post outside links. Please go to this URL:
huawei-y300.tumblr.com
Have fun!
is this working on Huawei Y300-0100 or U8833-1??? pls help me how to root my phone, thank you so much!
I'm going to buy this phone for my mother, it's good?
Good signal? for US$ 130 is kinda'right?

For you it would be around 190$ in comparison to 150€. 1€ equals 1,31$ at the moment.
The signal is way better than my SGS+ I used before I got my Y300. And I can recommend it to everyone who is not searching for something too expensive. It runs at an average speed and the OS is nearly up-to-date with 4.1.1. The only thing which is disturbing for me is the EmotionUI 1.0 which Huawei uses. But besides that it's perfect for that price! :victory:

Same goes here, this great handy appeared about a week ago in The Netherlands for only € 119,- it is truly a steal
And yeah, it's really need the rooting because of the whole bunch of bloatware which comes preinstalled and without
the root half of them are not possible to remove. So thank you very much for the solution! My code is on the way, at least i hope so
I hope it's going to have a section here on xda-developers, because there is a lot possibilites in this phone!

Yesterday my Galaxy note broke won't charge anymore.
So i bought this as a replacement till i find something better.
Works good, only gps is acting strange sometimes more then 100meters to the right or left.
but maybe an update wil fix it. was only happening this morning, this afternoon it worked great
There's plenty of gps fix or speedup topic here on xda
After rooting it's possible one of them is going to work
Today it was working just fine

Bought the phone 3 days ago. So far absolutely flawless performance unbelievable for that price....
Just the problem with the stock software that`s taking 3 out of the 4 GB internal storage... so should we expect more ROMs to come soon?
Can somebody please post some details for this new build? What has changed etc.. I was searching everywhere and could not find anything .. Thanks guys..

Got a reply from Huawei, but they totaly changed the imei and they couldn't give me an unlock code, does their translation system change the imei number? damn, now i have to mail them again and hope they reply the correct number now.

New to the Zenfone 2

Hey all,
I'm new to the Zenfone 2, coming from the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus so I'm wondering if you can give me your best recommendations as far as rooting and Zen based ROMS. I have the ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition being delivered today. I don't want to mess with anything CM related at the moment until I have had a chance to play with it and until it's bug free, 100%. Thoughts & suggestions???

If you decide to unlock bootloader, use the unofficial unlocker as it doesn't give ASUS your IMEI and stop OTA's being pushed to you if you decide to stick with stock rom for a while...
Thought I'd mention, once bootloader is unlocked you can't re-lock it...

My advice is if you don't want anything so special then don't root it, you can now uninstall almost every of the bloatware without rooting. And the stock rom is good enough I have no complaints, knowing that I was a root addict with my last phone. There only thing that I think makes rooting worthy is the adblock. You can't find any decent non-root adblock.

Well, you can uninstall the 3rd party bloat. You can't uninstall the Asus/Google stuff, but can now disable most of it, which is good enough.
@MikeyLee I thought your name looked familiar! I came from the Mate 2, too. The stock rom has gotten much better over time. Prism Barebones is great, especially if you want a clean slate without going to CM. Also like @ultramag69 said, use the unofficial bootloader unlock method.
For the moment I have 2 months with this cellphone, the 4gb is excellent but the battery is terrible I wait it will solved with android 6.0

Exactly my sentiments regarding rooting. I've had the phone for 9 months and have no reason to root. I use Adguard and it's a very effective no-root adblocker.
My only recommendation echoe rom go check it out i b his forum at echoerom.com
It is stock based but will give you an awesome experience with amazing speed and decent battery life

It did not come with a card but I did already have one. It's the 128GB internal storage, 4GB RAM 2.3mhz Intel Atom
Z3580 processor. There were actually things missing from it but it's brand new and was factory sealed. It was missing the second battery cover and the headset that was supposed to come with it. Kinda pissed about that.

Zenfone 2 ZE551ML help

Hello there.
I'm about to receive one of these from Gearbest, and from what I've read, it's likely that it will come with WW software but the device itself it's the CN version.
I already have bookmarked the tutorial to flash everything to WW, but my doubt is, what about LTE bands? Is it really possible to unlock all bands? How?
Is there anything anyone can recommend for this device regarding roms and mods?
Thank you in advance.
I know that the question may be a little noob-ish, or even a bit stupid (I don't know), but please, can anyone help?
its seems that nobody have this phone. Im going to buy one in aliexpress, it looks like a great phone but, without suport.
When and if you two get these phones and depending on what they are which you dont know at the minute, there is a forum for ze551ml which covers everything from bricked devices to changing LCDs

No need to be ironic man, I have my fair share of XDA experience, I just never came across a region-specific device that inspite having the same hardware worldwide, doesn't have all network frequencies available on every baseband... What I asked basically was, is it really possible to have all LTE bands available on a CN device, and secondly, based on users experience here, is there any rom, kernel or mod that you can recommend...

Mine is from Gearbest, it's not a fake, but the problem is... They only sell the CN version of the Zenfone, and what they do to sell it to Euro users is flash the WW version of the firmware but they don't convert the device fully. Anyway, for 123 euros is still not a bad deal, considering its the 4gb ram version.
Thanks for your help

Global and Chinese version?

I know there is international version can be bought in Hong Kong, with all assets against Chinese.
However, it is much easier for me to ro get Chinese... Maybe it will be also cheaper, but it is second story.
My question is if will be possible to install global fw in China phone?
Thanks
Short answer. Nope. At least not now.
O must see prices of both. Generally, China phones localisation is not so poor, with some work, one ca adopt is enough. I have now honor note 10, same work...
I hope it would be possible to unlock BL and root and de_chinise it.

So I live in China. I was just at the Huawei store an hour ago. And I had the same question; Can I eventually put the International rom on the Chinese version?
All I can say is that right now, the easiest way to do that is to buy the phone in Hong Kong for example.
But the problem is that they sell the 128Gb/6G RAM for almost 200 USD more than the price you get the Mate pro 8GB RAM/256 GB version in China..
I think I'll go with the Chinese version, waiting to switch the rom at some point.
PS: If installing the google suite is not possible by allowing apks of unknown source
I afraid this will never work...
but thankes. key is price difference. i will also go on al00
Not to mention the global version only comes in the blue color. I didn't like that.

Oh yeah?
So just to be clear,
- DL the .apk(s) for the google suite and allowing "unknown sources" from the mate 20 will make possible to have the google apps?
It seems too easy to be true, but maybe you're right, I have no idea.
I just want to make sure that I won't buy it to realize that this won't work.
Returning anything here in China is a real pain, even on the same day

Don't need to download the apk.
Go into app gallery
Change country to China
Search for Google playstore.

Done.
You dont need to install google suite apk. Just install play apk from apk mirror. It worked with note 10. And working with mate20x from china. Google services are already baked on rom by default.

Is this typical of China version Huawei phones?
I've always thought that ROMs were interchangeable, as long as the hardware was the same.

Technically yes. However Huawei made it harder for cross region rom flashing by locking the bootloader and rom region detection.

I was just reading the huge chinese version mate x thread and someone was saying the bands were different (but better, nothing missing - just more bands if I understood correctly)

I was just reading the huge chinese version mate x thread and someone was saying the bands were different (but better, nothing missing - just more bands if I understood correctly)
so now I just need to read the mate 20 pro threads to see if it is similar in this way...

Mate 20 X - Flash China version to internaional / Europe one?

Hi guys,
I will get very soon my first china handy - the Mate 20 X - 8 GB / 256 GB - china version.
Now I read that Saturn / Mediamarkt will bring the Mate 20 X to Germany. Therefore I expect that an international / European version is on the way.
Is it possible to flash the china version with this international one?
No idea til now.

I know only the china version can be unlocked and just now I saw this news
https://9to5google.com/2018/11/15/google-android-pie-project-treble-expectations/
Highlighted text from Google
"Going forward, all devices launching with Android 9 Pie or later will be Treble-compliant and take full advantage of the Treble architecture to deliver faster upgrades. Thanks to Treble, we expect to see more devices from OEMs running Android 9 Pie at the end of 2018 as compared to the number of devices that were running Android Oreo at the end of 2017."
What this means is that, whether Huawei likes it or not, Pie is already treble ready and there's a good chance that we are able to flash aosp on the device.

Is the ADB way a save way or can I destroy my mate 20x with it, when removing the browser an stuff?
And is there a tutorial on how to solve these huawei/pie/Chinese language specific problems?

I think it is as safe as can be. Just follow the instructions properly and you should be good. I just did that. I removed the browser and a few other apps such as Hivoice and Hiboard etc. I didn't remove everything chinese as many of them do no harm.
