[REVIEW] [GUIDE] CM 12.1 - Android 5.1 by Yirom - Xiaomi Redmi 1S

I'm using this rom for a week now, and i have to say, i'm overly satisfied with it.
Apps that installed (wich matters): Lucky Patcher (nos system patches), Freedom (no freecore mode), SuperSU, GLTools, SwiftKey
Bugs(it doesn't really have any), issues:
-I only had 2 random reboots so far, but SwiftKey is force closing time to time(although it's not a problem - it restarts instantly, and you got the keyboard properly in no time).
-Flashlight is not turning on sometimes (maybe low battery could be an issue, i dont know).
-If you enable "Live Display", you'll have a massive framedrop (to be honest, it's not a big deal, i don't need it.)
-The default launcher's app drawer runs on low fps when sliding between pages(i have only 2 pages yet)
-Sometimes Google Play crashes when i browsing descriptions.
Pros:
-Its really smooth, and runs at 60 fps
-EVERYTHING works properly.
-It's 5.1! The perfomance is just great. Max free ram i had is around 460mb, avarage is 380, minimum is 230(when 5 games running in the back).
-In Antutu i'v got 21684, wich is acceptable i think, this was the highest score i got (i used Miui before).
-Heating is not an issue, it handles well, and stays below 50 celsius
-I can't say much about battery, but i think its same as on MIUI
I hope this can help desiding wheter to download the rom, or not.
---[UPDATE]---
The camera is useless in the summer. If the device is heating up, the camera cant set the brightness properly, and it scales from lowest to highest constantly. If the device is cooled down enough, it can be used again.
Also, heating causes massive framedrop (not a surprise though).
-----------------
You can find the ROM on Yirom. (Use Google Translator).

Great Ron
I am also using it for around a week now and totally agree with your view. I love the performance and battery life. BTW I got 22800 in antutu after a fresh boot. :good:

Laggy

My phone is actually quite laggy now. Sometimes flicking between the menus lags so I have to restart my phone.
Also, high end processes such as the game asphalt lag A LOT.
Whats up? I thought this was "the most powerful phone in the world"?
+1 finding mine to lag a lot as well........
Mine also becomes increasingly laggy, the only thing that sort of works is using advanced task killer to stop the all the background running programs, some were running on mine i dont even remember opening!
Not finding this at all. I think it's certain apps that cause it as my phone is practically full of apps barely any space left but still not laggy.
EDIT: No task manager on mine either.
i have around 40 apps including asphault and sygic navigation and i nevered faced lag in my desire....!!!! the only time i restart the phone is when i have all of them running and cause i don't want to kill them with task managers i restart in order for it to close them itself.
Sorry but I must say, I'm a bit disappointed. The Phone is Luggy.
And I don't even dare to compare it to Iphone (And Yes I know it boosts more then twice the resolution of the Iphone), but still When I play Asphalt It looks like a Pentium 3 running - Crysis.
So... "Fastest Phone ever made"??? Maybe only on paper...
Asphalt for some reason does not run well on the Desire, the game is butter smooth on my Milestone. Let's hope they optimize it for the Desire as well, the game is quite good.
The phone does get very laggy unless you use a task manager. For a snapdragon powered phone it doesn't seem to be very "Snappy". It's seriously bad in the "All Programs" menu especially.
As for gaming, the milestone will unfortunately always be better than the Desire. It has an OMAP/PowerVR CPU/GPU combo (The same as the Nokia N900) which outclasses the Snapdragon in 3D gaming but is slightly slower in CPU intensive apps.
I've been attacked with huge consistent lag since 2 days now (unknown before) but it was the miscall app and app organizer running in the background causing it (as well as voraciously depleting the battery life) so not a problem here.

Anyone found a solution for the lag in apps drawer scroll

Hey guys. Anyone found a fix to the lag issue when scrolling up and down in the apps drawer? To know more that I mean, pls click on the below 2 links:
http ://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=679037&highlight=scroll+speed
and
http ://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=657569&highlight=lag+program+menu+htc+desire
That's strange, I don't experience any lag at all... It's supersmooth and fast.
Ditto, smooth as anything here
Are you using a live wallpaper? one thing i've noticed is cpu intensive live wallpapers make scrolling the apps menu lag quite badly. At a guess i'd say live wallpapers remain running when the apps menu is displayed.
Switch to a static wallpaper or the relatively undemanding htc sense live wallpaper, see if it makes a difference.
Weird..no lag here.
Super smooth.
Yeah, I have a solution for you: buy an iPhone!
Okay, enough trolling. I experienced that as well, but it suddenly stopped and now it's very smooth. I don't know what I did, but I am certain that it stopped after the second 2.2 OTA.
I have a few different ideas you can try. I do all of these on my own phone and it's snappy as anything, even though I've limited the clock speed to 650 maximum.
1) Copy everything back to your phone if you currently have most/all things on your SD card, leaving the things on your SD only if they're actually big. Say, everything below 2mb keep on your phone.
2) Install a different launcher, like ADW. Aside from possibly being a little faster, it allows you to customize your app drawer and remove things you don't need. For example I've removed everything I already have an icon on my home screen for, and now I only use the app drawer for odds and ends or things I'm still deciding if I need them or not - like, 15 things at most usually. I don't even NEED to scroll!
3) Install a better OS, like Cyanogenmod. It's faster in general.
4) Install an OS (or patch/script) which allows you to use an EXT partition on your SD card for apps. EXT2/3/4 are much faster and lower-latency than FAT32.
5) Use SetCPU or a similar app to increase your CPU's MINIMUM speed while the screen is on, from 245 to 384. This will eliminate the initial stutter your phone may have before it decides to clock up the CPU. Even though it's a 50% increase or whatever, in practice it will have virtually no effect on your battery life since it will only take effect while the screen's on - at which time your screen will be using lots more power than the CPU does at any speed.
If #5 solves it for you, just remember the stuttering you're experiencing is only for the sake of battery savings, it's got nothing to do with your phone's performance. In that sense, it highlights one of Android's features rather than a deficiency, even if it's doing this in an unattractive way!

I have my Desire set at 768 max and there really isn't a noticeable difference from the normal 998. Hell. I clocked it way down and it was still WAY faster then my HTC Magic ever was. It's funny that the Desire's processor is faster at 3xx mhz then the Magic's is at 710mhz. I found the Desire to be unstable for sustained periods of anything under 700mhz though. Is yours running stable at 650? Maybe it was just the 691mhz speed I was using.

Possible simple fix to Multitasking and battery life help - worked a charm on my D3

This may be of great use - it was to me on my Droid 3 and I noticed weird settings posted on here in HTC's default Build.prop that explain IMO the memory Issues people are perceiving.
Multitasking can easily be fixed in build prop by editing the corresponding values (I assume, not tried it yet but I've seen the values in the prop.). Some of the default HTC settings baffle me. Or use RomToolbox by JRummy - its easy and works on Boot. You can also edit lowmemorykiller using this app, I always start on mild and take off about 6 megabytes on the bottom 3 categories.
Ive not rooted yet but on my D3 (512mb ram) I used dirty ratio 70% (HOX default is 0%....!) Dirty background 90% (Hox default is 30%) and vfs cache pressure 10. Hox default is 100. This makes android flush the cache less often, saving battery and eliminating stutter (uses CPU time and I/O to flush the cache), keeps apps in background ram leaving you where you left off and doesn't negatively impact on battery life or degrade performance over time (reboots every couple of days can't harm though). I've no idea why the HOX's default settings are so aggressive - unless they thought users might get an errant app, leave it running and complain when they dont know why the battery is draining... oh and kill OOM allocating task was also a yes (can't remember if you set that to 1 or true in build.prop but there's a checkbox on Romtoolbox for it).
On my Droid 3 with the above settings, I could infinitely multitask (VM Heap of 48mb - but on HOX you could easily double that for more tabs in browser etc) and my battery gained a perceived time of about an hour at least - maybe more, due to the apps always remaining open and CPU time not having to be used reopening them and redrawing the past state they were in because theyve been pushed out of RAM.
I researched the above for ages looking for and testing the best combinations online when I had my D3 (even with 512mb ram Moto's settings were way less aggressive than HTC's are at default) and made sure they wouldn't cause lag over time, or loss of performance over time - as well as providing optimal battery life.

[Q] Tips to make my phone fast again?

Hi,
I've got a Tegra One X running SlimBean 4.2.2 WEEKLY 5.7 and n3okernel.
So far so good but there are still some things I'm not really sure about.
First there's something very annoying compared to other phones and even to Sense One X's.
From pressing the lock button to the screen coming on it takes about 1-2 seconds (which is still quite slow but acceptable to me), but sometimes the phone just takes a little bit longer. Sometimes it takes up to 20 seconds (haven't stopped it but it's my impression).
Does anyone have an idea why this could be? Is it possible to disable the fade on animation? I don't need it. I'd rather have the screen just coming on.
And otherwise I've been playing around with Pimp My Rom Beta from the Play Store and fiddled around with some settings and the results seemed quite good to me. Can someone tell me if it's recommended to turn these settings on:
Hardware acceleration (Pimp My Kernel - Android Features)
Lock Launcher In Memory (Pimp My Kernel - Android Features)
Call Ring Delay 0 (Pimp My Kernel - Telephony)
Proximity Sensor Delay 0 (Pimp My Kernel - Telephony)
AMR Wideband (Pimp My Kernel - Telephony)
Optimize sqlite3 Databases (Pimp My Kernel - Miscellaneous)
Ext4 File-Systems Tweaks (Pimp My Kernel - Miscellaneous)
Internal SD-Card I/O Tweaks (Pimp My Kernel - Miscellaneous)
Zipalign all APKs at each boot (Pimp My Kernel - Miscellaneous)
Battery savings (Pimp My Kernel - Miscellaneous)
Quick Power-On (Pimp My Kernel - Miscellaneous)
Adjust GPS config to my country
Wifi Scan Interval 180 (System Tweaks - Internet)
It doesn't have anything to do with speed but I discovered that my battery drains quite fast if I have mobile data enabled. If I disable it there's nearly any drain.
Is this normal and is there a way to make the drain a bit less extreme?
Thanks in advance!

Change kernel would probably fix screen on delay

This is the reason why I've chosen n3okernel. It seems to be better now but still not completely cured.
Which one would you recommend?
I've got the same problem on my Nexus 7 also.
I've flashed Faux there.

Oh boy, where to even start. First it's a known issue with higher end mobile processor's (like tegra 3) that fstrim is not correctly adjusted. To take care of that go to play store and download lagfix and run it, you'll probably notice an immediate difference. I would also download cache mate, clean master (has a broom icon) and also clean master pro (has a little ying/yang icon). Download all 4 of those apps and run them all and you should notice a huge difference. If your SD card space is getting low, that can also slow down your phone. Again, I would go to the playstor and download SD maid and use that to clan up your SD card. This should all make a huge difference. Like I said though I would start with the lagfix app.
I tried lag fix but it made everything worse I suppose.
So I didn't try the other tools.
My SD still has some gigabytes of space so this shouldn't be a problem.
My main problem really is the slow unlocking at the moment.
And the battery drains pretty fast too, but unlocking is really what's annoying me at the moment.
Thanks anyway!

You gotta remember too, the Rom your running is basically a constant beta if you're using weeklies, these issues may pop up. Might wanna try a different Rom and see if it persists.
from my Viped out one x
A few apps could help alot
Download greenify, and seeder
< Coming to you live from the planet One X >
I was running the official build 5 until yesterday but then I thought I should maybe try a newer build. Maybe it's better.
As Build 6 came out today, I've upgraded to this one.
Does Seeder really help?
I've read that it does not help at all because entropy is not really needed so often.
Is there no simple solution for faster unlocking?

Spherekat 5.4 N5110 Slowdown/lag

Not sure if this is the right thread to talk about it, but recently I flashed the 5.4 version of this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2775998 and so far so good, it fixed the 4.4.2 S Pen problem. However, I've noticed that, when I use multitask mode (2 apps open at the same time stacked on top of each other), there is some light stuttering(?). Not laggy, but when I scroll it kinda stutters a bit. Strangely enough, this only happens during multitask mode, not if I have a lot of apps open in the background. This isn't the real problem though, the real problem is that the kernel seems to cause the S Note app to lag so much that it's almost unusable. Another problem i've found was that SOMETIMES when listening to music when the screen is off, the music lags so much that it's inaudible. Not often, though, and I dorn know what specifically causes it, other than the low GPU speed. The kernel specifically states this:
"GPU settings are:
Step0 54MHz = new Idle step = when in browser mode and no gaming this low GPU speed will help save power
Step1 266MHz
Step2 350MHz
Step3 533MHz = new speed foe step3 for better performance in drawing
Step4 700MHz = New OC speed for the better gaming performance
GPU settings are not editable and hard set in the kernel"
I'm taking a guess here but I think that the low, non editable GPU settings are causing the slowdowns.
Is there any way to somehow increase the GPU, even though it says that it's uneditable? Has anyone used this kernel before and found out how to fix it? Would downgrading to a lower version of the kernel fix the slowdowns? This is the only kernel I found that fixed the slowdown for my device, I can't really install a different one, but I can downgrade this specific kernel, which I think could fix it but I'm not sure. Are there any other fixes?
