[Q] Dark pictures? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Hi,
When I take pictures with the S6, the setting displays completely fine in the viewfinder (aka screen), but when the picture is saved it is several degrees darker.
Have tried with HDR on and off, and also with the front facing camera, same problem.
Have anyone else have this issue with the S6 (Edge)?

Worth a shot but is adaptive brightness enabled? Or possibly Auto Brightness?

As a matter of fact, adaptive brightness was enabled. When I disabled it the pictures look as good as they should in the gallery.
Don't know if the camera disables adaptive brightness, appears like that.
Thanks for the help!

Front facing camera darkening after recording

I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue or maybe i have a weird setting set on my camera.
Issue: Basically in lower lighting areas (not super dark, in a room with a few desk lamps on) the front facing camera shows a good image. Then once i start recording a video (or even in snapchat) the image is light, then after about 1 second in it darkens. it looks like someone has turned off a light in the room.
Is anyone is experiencing this or knows of any tweaks?
I have the same issue.
uncheck auto brightness from settings-display
this still is happening even with the main camera/front camera doesn't seem to be an issue with the auto brightness any other ideas?
Same here, any camera app I use presents this issue. With only low light or indoors. This is the first phone I've owned where it has done this and I'm coming off of nexus 5 and the s3 before it.
I really hope(because I am rooted/custom ROM) that this can be calibrated on a rom type of level and not permanent bc of hardware.
Same issue with Moto G Turbo Edition...
set the Anti-flicker setting to 60 Hz.

[Q] Is it just me, or does the display not look as vibrant after updating to 5.0.2?

I just updated to Lollipop from an OTA update, and the screen seems like it's not as bright, and the colors aren't as vibrant.
I've turned off Auto Brightness and turned the Brightness up to 100%, and verified that the Screen Mode is stll in Adaptive.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Try setting screen mode to cinema?
Mine has been fine. Still very bright, like I like it. Good luck.
Cheers.

Probably the best test of whether the screen has changed is to find the stock video that came with the tablet. I found a demo video inside my Tab S 800 when I opened the VLC player and it demonstrated all the colors and brightnesses. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

Screen colours in bright sunlight

Hi guys,
Does anyone's screen tone change markedly when they take their tab out into the bright sunlight? The screen tone seems to change completely to a more washed out picture. You can actually see the screen change as you move from a lower light into a bright sunlight.
I notice that this only happens when the screen brightness is set to "auto". If you toggle auto on/off in the bright sunlight you can see the screen tone change.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there any way of changing this behaviour on "auto brightness"? I like to leave my screen on auto brightness but not if the screen washes out...

Most likely it`s the Adaptive display set to Auto, you can manualy make your own selection in settings/device/display/screen mode.
Also try the auto adjust screen tone in the same screen mode section.

It happens irrespective of the screen mode (adaptive, basic etc)
It only happens when I'm outside in bright sunlight and display brightness is set to auto. If I turn off auto and set brightness to max it looks normal.
Have you seen this behaviour?

I dont use my 10.5" outdoors, phones/tablets are hard to see the screen outdoors so i dont bother, just answer calls on my phone nothing else.
You Tab will eat the battery outdoors as it will have the brightness set to 100% so you can see the display, try and find some cover/shade before using it.

I appreciate that you don't use your tablet outdoors and I also appreciate the advice on changing my lifestyle to suit my tablet use but I live in a country where we spend the majority of our days outside near pools in bright sunlight and I'd like to use my tablet in these conditions without losing screen quality & colours. I'm well aware the screen will consume more juice but that's why I've got a portable usb battery charger.
I am just asking if anyone else has noticed this behaviour...

I have seen this! Yes the colors are werid in sunlight. Its not what you normally see. This happens because of how samsung wants the screen to be visible in direct sunlight. Its like the max brightness amoled can go on auto. Meanwhile if you set it manually to the highest brightness, the colors are normal. Its a feature from samsung in which why it looks werid in direct sunlight on auto.
(Most amoled devices have this too like the S6. Putting the device in direct sunlight with auto brightness enabled maxes out the colors and brightness to live with the claim of how samsung says it can be seen in direct sunlight.)

Thank you! I thought this may have been the case... I really don't like the colour representation and tone. Good to know I can change it manually by turning off auto brightness.
Thanks for your response!

Have you tried using a third-party brightness app, something like Lux, it might override Samsung`s outdoor sun mode or whatever.

Lux breaks root. It's not compatible with supersu.

I'll just turn off auto brightness to disable the strange colour effect

brightness limitation is hard-coded

If you have absolute max brightness on the note 10+ and go to a hdr YouTube video then enter thumbnail view the screen will be noticeably brighter don't know if it can be seen in screen shots
Forgot the one without the video playing

That's the Video Enchancer setting, under advanced settings. Been that way since at least the S8. Maybe the S7, I can't remember for sure.
And no, screen brightness won't show up in a screenshot.

Set power mode to High Performance. It bumps screen brightness 10%.
Then go get your eyes checked. If you need the screen that bright, there may be a health issue.

i do have 10 already set and i like bright vibrant displays i always use max brightness on everything never in my life have i used auto brightness on anything
Only time I use max brightness is when outside. And yes, high performance mode definitely boosts the max brightness. As a contractor I have my phone set to high performance and Auto brightness when working outside. Since Auto brightness actually gets significantly brighter than manual max brightness outside, I only use Auto brightness when outside. Otherwise when inside or in normal lighting conditions I am on optimized performance setting and manual brightness of about 60%. That is plenty bright enough for my eyes inside or not when outside in bright sunlight.

HDR playback: is it working?

Hi everybody! I'll start by saying that this forum has been really useful in the last few years, so thank you to all users that keep it alive!
I just bought a new Galaxy S20, coming from a S8, and on my old phone, when I watched a HDR video (for example, on Prime Video), the blue light filter would automatically turn off and brightness would go to the max (only while playing). Now, on S20 it is no longer the case. Even if I turn off the blue light filter, brightness can be changed with no issue. That goes beyond the purpose of HDR, which needs brightness to be all the way up. In fact, I believe HDR itself is not working. I checked with my S8 side by side and the difference is pretty clear.
Why is that? Was it the same for S9 and S10, also?
I read somewhere that screen should be set to natural (or that it automatically uses natural when viewing HDR videos), but I see no difference at all. I guess that the brightness not going up is the main cue to see if HDR playback is working or not, and - in my case - it is not. Tried also Netflix, to no avail.
May you help me with this?
Thank you!
