Samsung Galaxy S6 edge is a WASTE OF MONEY! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

PLEASE SHARE!
I am very disappointed!
Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, WASTE OF MONEY!
double down....
I was trying to choose between iphone 6 and the new S6 edge, since S6 edge model is one of a kind and got new design.. I decided to buy the Samsung.
After 2 days, my phone become like this. I only place it in my coat pocket so it will be safe. Rather than to place it in my jeans pocket. In my shock, I saw my back camera glass was cracked. I didn't bumped to anything neither drop it. Unexpectedly, it was DAMAGED! I bought a phone that has a Lousy, low quality material which I paid for $1,168 sgd! I am very very UPSET!
When I went to the Samsung store to report it they told me they cant replace it with the new one. The only choice is to go at the Samsung service Center and repair.
To make the long story short, the manager and all staff can't give me clear answer why does it happen.* And cant guarantee me that it wont happen the same thing once I agree for the repair. Btw, One scenario that really makes me show the evil side of me is that they asked me to pay for another $200 for the repair! What the hell are they talking about! I only used it for 2 days and they are asking me to pay for the repair which i dont even know what happened!
*Guys I had been using Samsung for quite long and this is the first time I encounter it. It was very embarassing. And gives me so much trouble... just a word of advice THINK TWICE,THRICE, before getting one! Waste of money!!! See for yourself!

Plenty of threads to go and voice your opinion, there is no need to start a new thread.
Please select one thread and post once. Maybe if you feel the product is cheap your best bet is to seek help from your local Better Business Bureau or go to Samsung directly.

Sending my phone in for repair (updated daily)

Thought ill do this to help people that are thinking of sending their phone in for repair.
If its fast, if they do a good job etc..
I called up Samsung UK at 9am UK time 21/05/12 and told them what's wrong with it
This is what is wrong with it;
The screen pops out about quater of a MM on the bottom right
-The phone doesnt always charge when connected to the charger (this has happened about 5times within a month)
-The phone switches off randomly sometimes (This has happened about 3 times within a month)
-Sometimes when i remove the charging cable. On the screen it says charging/ disconnected continuously, If i wasnt aware of it, it would keep happening and burn my screen since the same image is on the screen none stop (This has happened 2 times within two weeks)
-If i shake my phone i hear a rattle sound on the upper back of the phone (This has been there since i bought the phone)
-The touch screen isnt as responsive from when i bought it (I have to take my finger off the screen and try again sometimes)
-WiFi and 3G stops working and i have to reboot my phone to be able to use it (This has happened countless of times)
Some of these faults only happen sometimes but they have happened more then once within a short period of time.

Quite a lot right? lol. The women took it quite well haha.
They said the bag will be sent out within two working days with Royal Mail, and the repair will take from 5 to 10 working days. I have to send it with other information like proof of purchase contact details etc..
I asked what happens if they send it back and the same/ new faults are still there?
She said we will try and repair it again and if its no good on the 3rd try then they will send me a new one.
The call took about 20minutes. I was on hold for about 5minutes total.
So let the games begin.
ps I set this as my background for fun
LoL @ background!
hope they take care of it...
I got the package this morning around 11am while i was sleeping (i work nights) so i could of sent it today if some one woke me up -_-
Another thing.. the packaging they gave me is an utter joke.
Cheap bubble wrap thats about 2ft by 1ft and a plastic bag(envelope)
I used my own bubble wrap, cardboard, bubble wrap jiffy bag, some more bubble wrap then put it in the envelope with all the information they needed.
I think i over did it a bit but what can i say? Im a bit OCD on stuff like that lol.
I took lots of pictures of my phone so when they send it back to me.. if there is one mark that wasnt there before/ still has the same or new problems its going straight back.
I want to send it back three times because then they will send me a brand new one on the 3rd go haha.
I'm going to post it tomorrow morning.
Hope it works out for you.
You complained about a rattle when you shook your phone? Dude, you're nit picking.

I know. I'm trying to give them as many faults as possible to make it harder for them. I just want a new one cause the current one i have has problems.. i dont like repaired phones
My brother had an iphone4.. about 20days before the 1 year warranty ran out he went into the apple store and said the home button doesnt always work. The guy didnt even check it and gave him a brand new one.
I wish all companies had customer service like Apple... even if their products are meh.

lmao. You obviously don't know much about Apple customer service, it costs $99/year per device + $49/"incident". If you call 91 days after you purchase your device they won't even talk to you about your device/software or anything until you purchase the $99 service.
Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage and 90 days of telephone technical support. AppleCare+ for iPhone extends repair coverage and technical support to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone and adds coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage due to handling, each subject to a $49 service fee.1 With AppleCare+ for iPhone, Apple experts can help troubleshoot issues over the phone or at an Apple Retail Store. They’ll answer questions about iOS, Apple iPhone apps such as Mail, iMessage, and Calendar, and help you solve interconnectivity issues between your iPhone and Mac or PC. And if your iPhone needs service under the plan, Apple technical support representatives can even set up a repair during the same call.

I did something like this back when I had the 3GS. I waited until I decided I was buying the Nexus One, went to the Apple store and said the battery wasn't working correctly. The guy went in the back and came out with a brand new phone which went on Craigslist immediately after.

One year hardware warrantee, 90 day tech support via phone. Which leaves much to be desired IMO. Almost all products offer 1yr hardware support, Android does not charge $99/yr to help you diagnose a problem over the phone. Imo saying Apple has superior customer service is so assbackards it borders on mentally challenged. As far as what I personally know about Apple and their CS, I've been an Apple device owner for years, same for Android. Both have good qualities, both have poor qualities. But I have no delusions of which are which. I'm not going off somebody else's experience, somebody who as far as I am concerned (since we don't have an XDA username for them) has no credibility on this forum. I posted the link and quote directly from Apples website, it's kind of hard to disagree with that, and if either of you would have actually read it you would have seen that hardware is warranted for 1yr.

You mean i go off my experience and you'll go off your brothers experience. You quoted me quoting Apple about the "repair" thing btw, just follow the link and see for yourself, that's what is written on Apples website.
Sure we will drop the Apple talk, just thinking about AppleCare pisses me off, don't know why anyone would prefer it.

well me and my dad was with him so its basically my own experiance too..
I dont see why anyone would buy extended warranty .. its a rip off.
btw just one hour and i can post my phone =O
That was my whole reasoning, I don't see why anyone would rather HAVE to pay for the extended, much less pay for phone support during the normal warrantee period. Hopefully you are more than satisfied with your new device, I will be asleep in an hour but I'll come check it out tomorrow.
Sent it!

Curious to see how it goes - Samsung USA wouldn't accept my European GN to repair a broken screen...not even for money. I may have to send it back to Europe to get it fixed.

Samsung Service Center is behaving poorly! What should I do?

Hi, I had to create this topic outta utter frustration and annoyance. Well my device was having a charging problem (it was taking long time to charge) and I submitted it to the nearest service center here (Divine Electro Solution, Calcutta, India) on 14th this month. Next day they called me and said the charger is the culprit (but they wasn't sure about that!) and they'll replace it. So I went to take my phone on last Saturday and they handed me the device with the new charging adapter (they didn't change the cable). As soon as I looked at the phone I was . The main screen had at least 6 or 7 very prominent scratches, kind of things which could be only done by keys, or razors, that if you scratch them pretty badly on the screen. I said what have you guys done to the screen? They said, they don't know! They sent the phone to head office and they might have done that. They were pretty sure that I would take the phone, but I wasn't gonna, why would I accept a scratched device while I gave them an almost brand new and shiny one? Anyway, they said I will get it back on Monday, with the front LCD replaced (or the glass maybe), so today I called them and they said there is no spare parts available and they don't know how long would it take. This annoyed me. Well it's not that I've given them a scratched one and they could take all the time on earth, it's their damn responsibility. Anyway, I asked how long could it take and said to do it asap, but they said, they can't tell me any time frame and I could take my device back as it is now and come back when the LCD/glass is available to replace it. Well I am not doing that, because I know as soon as they give me the device they will not hold any sort of interest for any further process. So I didn't take it.
I emailed this incident to the complaint section of Samsung, sent the same copy to Executive board too, and got a reply also, saying,
This is to acknowledge the receipt of your concern and also to inform that the same has been highlighted to the Executive Escalation Team( CEO's Desk).

Well I don't know if they will do anything or not, I sent the mail on Saturday and till today they didn't contact my local SC or HO that's for sure. There isn't a helpline number in their website where I could reach them and tell my issue.
Anyway, what you guys think I should do? Should I just wait more or do something? It's been a week now they are holding the device, and don't know for how long more they have intended to!
Thanks in advance.
PS: Forgot to say how stupid these SC guys are, they told me on Sat after giving me the new charger that this phone should take 5 hours if not more to charge completely, as it has a bigger battery. I, just to make sure they were complete stupids and brainless asked, how big is the battery? They said, it has 2500 mAh battery and a 2A charger should charge it in 5 hours
I never had a pathetic experience like this with any brand previously, be it Nokia, hTC or Apple.
Thats cos samsung are noobs stick t0 google.or.htc in my opinion although the note 2 is best on market

I can understand your frustration. There will be an officer for every city to check whether the service centre guys or behaving properly or not. Better get hold of that guy. Anyway you have contacted the executive section right, tell them you will accept the phone only if they provide brand new or replace the screen including glass. Otherwise you can sue them in consumer court and claim more damages more than 1 lakh. Better wait for the new piece.

Well I am talking with 'that' guy from day 1 and what amuses me that a section manager knows nothing about Note 2! He keeps saying it's a new device, no one knows much about it! I mean in what earth a more than 7-8 weeks old device is 'new' device. His and his total groups lack of knowledge amaze me.
Update: At 10 am today I got a call from Samsung HO and they made a conference call and connected me with that guy with whom I was talking from very first. Same crap he said again, unknown period of time due to lack of parts availability. Nonsense.
So this is their solution, I think they just found a new feature in phones, and that is conference calling.
I am so ashamed. Ashamed on myself, that I purchased this phone.

You should be asking for a replacement phone, not for repairs. It takes the whole 'we dont have parts available' issue out of the argument. This is their error, not yours. Insist on a new device.
Tell them if you don't have the parts, replace the phone.

I would DEMAND a new phone!
only iphone has a total replacement policy n thus the price:
well i had a camera issue with note 1 on the very first week,i hd rooted the phone but helpfully(xda) there was unroot,n i gave the phone to the service centre it took them 7 days to replace my front camera, but all was well, and yes availability of parts for a newly released device is hard.the person who inspected my device said front camera is only for video chatting that was the noobest reply i got, have a patient i hv a gult feeling ur problem will be solved.and as far as htc n google are concerned there have very small bussiness foot print in india,so samsung is a good choice for indians
I had huge bubbles under the gorilla glass so i gave it to sabsonic service center ( kolkata ).it was a 1 week old set with 0 scratches.they replaced the display and added more or less 5 scratches to screen and 15-20 scratches on back cover ( yeah back is ruined ) and few dents to the metal lining on sides.i asked them for an explanation, they said they dunno about it. if your issue is resolved, kindly update here.
I second you telling them to give you a new device. Either they fix it now, or they give you a new phone and you'll give back the parts. It's unacceptable that THEY mess up your phone and give it back, and then don't have the parts to change it... Fine... It's a new device, no new parts yet, but then give you a new phone to replace the busted up one!
You went in for a new CHARGER
and now you have to walk out with a NEW PHONE because THEY messed up!

I called them yesterday and they said come and see, we have changed the 'Gorilla Glass' (the pronunciation made me laugh hard), see if you are satisfied. I went and checked the screen thoroughly and there was NO scratch and they indeed changed the front glass. But yea, there were two or three small dents at the metallic border, and the back cover is scratched as well, but this isn't my iP5, so I didn't give a damn at that plastic.
But for the issue I submitted the device, that was long charging problem, it is NOT resolved. Device is still taking same time like before. Now I am gonna try with a different charger or cable, and if it's not good I will ask them to replace the device.
One thing I did learn, these service center guys should go back to school and learn ABCD first, but I doubt that, because I don't think they have any better IQ than Forrest Gump.
i talked with them regarding exchange, they said " sorry we don't do that, we only replace faulty parts "

Samsung causing irreparable harm. End of an era? Perhaps.

In spite of my best intentions, and really attempting to remain loyal to Samsung during a decidedly rough time for the company, I am being completely abandoned by Samsung. Do they care? Not at all. Do they think the loss of one (more) customer is significant? It would appear not. That attitude is not really great, but it's understandable. If we, the consumers are in a bad way over this, and we certainly are, depending on your particular circumstances, then it's not hard to imagine how messed up thing must be for those Samsung employees that are dedicated and we rightfully proud of the N7.
It's a nightmare for all. That being said, we the living still have to work and play and go on with our lives. I sat on a fence for a week, just paralyzed - I was in denial, I realize; "this can't be... it just can. not. be...
But acceptance is one of the steps I think, and with that in mind I came up with a plan. Trading the Note 7 for an S7 or S7 Edge was not an option. I already HAVE an S7 (work phone) and an S7 Edge (personal phone that I kept when upgrading to Note 7. Besides, neither is a Note. I sold my Note 4 when I got the N7. The S7 Edge is a beautiful phone. It's just not a NOTE. Different usage case.
So I decided, with my options disappearing, that a Note 5 was the best (least worst?) option available to me, as sad as that appears. The Note 5 has the newer build methods and materials, though it's not as balanced, nor as slick as the Note 7 was/is (or as slippery) and I sure don't have to list why it's a weak substitute in this space, but it IS the closest thing to a N7 in a Note Series phone. So I decide to bite the bullet and live with half the internal memory, no water resistance, a smaller battery (but not prone to meltdown at least) etc.
Guess what? No Note 5 to be had. There's obviously SOME around since a guy posted that Verizon got him one for about $375 or so - but AT&T? Nope. Nada. They must have divested themselves of them knowing that NOBODY would want one with the N& selling alongside it. Whoopsie. Bad call. Note 5 would be more popular today than when it was new on the market.
So I tried Samsung. Thinking I would give them a really hard time and hopefully get them to GIVE me one until a new model - ANY new model phone comes out. I have gotten stuff in the past when a company is trying really hard to keep customers.
Guess what? No Note 5 to be had here either. SAMSUNG got rid of them all, at least all the ones in the sales channel. So both AT&T and Samsung can't get me ANY model note phone, including prepaid devices or refurbs (why the rep thought she could find a Prepaid Note 5 is a joke in itself.
To add (another) insult to (yet more) injury, the AT&T rep tells me "You can use the S-Pen on the S7" I kindly explain to her why that is not so, no Wacom digitizer, thus no S-Pen, but she INSISTS! Sher READ IT SOMEWHERE (therefore it MUST be true, right?) So, since I HAVE an S& and 2 S-Pens (one kept back from the 1st N7 recall) I tell okay, let's TRY IT! HEY! Guess what? (I say that a lot here, don't I?) It DOESN'Y WORK! WHAT A SURPRISE! I am SO disappointed. But she tells me (wait for it) You must be doing something wrong. My documentation says a stylus works with the Note 7. FACE PALM (when what I feel like doing is reaching through the phone line and (expletive deleted)
So yeah. Truly without a viable option. And the sad part is, I didn't even WANT the damn Note 5 very much, but was willing to make the best of it, AND stay loyal to Samsung, and buy yet ANOTHER Samsung Phone next year. They keep this up they will be competing with HTC and Motorola on phone sales again. You can't stay at the top of the tier when you a) have no product to sell at that level, and b) Give your (potentially loyal) customers no way to remain so, despite their willingness to work with you.
Based on these realizations I have to believe Samsung will reap exactly what they are sowing today which is big losses of sales, loss of market share, and loss of loyal customer base. It doesn't get much worse than that. But fret not. Even these extremes wouldn't send me over the dark side of the apple.
Note 5's for ATT are everywhere. Have you looked at Amazon lately? BH Photo?
My search was really fruitless. No Verizon Note 5's anywhere except at Verizon, where I would have to pay as much as the Note 7 costs while simultaneously losing my Upgrade status and be stuck with it for 24 months to boot.
So I feel for you but only half as much as I feel for me.
Yes but I need AT&T to GIVE the NOTE 5 to me. I dont want to buy one, lol! I would, under the right circumstances give up the NOTE 7 (sob!) but there's no way I am using up an upgrade or the GO TO on an N5. It has to just be a placeholder, not a replacement for N7.
Just to ask:
Have you tried calling Samsung's Note 7 department based in Colorado? The number is 855-291-6255 - no matter who you first speak with ask for the Note 7 department in Colorado. If you get any grief over it tell them you had called earlier (a little white lie) and you had been on hold with that department for an hour or so and got disconnected and nobody has called you back.
I know of 13 people personally that have used that method to get a full retail refund of the purchase price on their Note 7 devices: 5 of them with AT&T, 4 of them with Verizon, 3 with T-Mobile, and 1 with Sprint. How do I know? Because I gave them that number and those instructions last week after I saw the number posted over at Reddit with the same info and instructions.
Now, as of this minute Samsung might be doing things a bit differently, I don't know, but 5 (2 from AT&T, 1 from Sprint, 1 from T-Mobile, and 1 from Verizon) of those 13 people I provided the number and info too already got their refunds this week (they told me when their checks arrived). They also returned their devices to their carriers and were told to either keep them or wait for Samsung to send the return packaging.
It sure can't hurt to give 'em a call and see what happens. If you're successful and you get the refund congrats, now you'll have money to go buy whatever phone you want (given that if you were under contract with the Note 7 purchase you'd be paying that off if required, some carriers are just writing off those losses at this point).
I read the other day that the Note is only good for about one or two percent of their phone sales, so while it bites, it's probably not biting them as much as it should be, resulting in a general feel among people that they don't care. Or that's my guess at this point.

Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate it, but I think you may have missed the entire point of my long winded tale... I don't WANT a REFUND. AT&T will give me a refund, take back the device, shut down the extra line I assigned it and all that. None of which helps me in any way. What I need is a NOTE PHONE. Having sold my perfect condition NOTE 3 and Note 4 after grabbing the Note 7, I have nothing to fall back on and no way to GET a NOTE PHONE. Having a refund leaves me without the phone I need and no reasonable replacement. Thanks anyway, though.
So you're trying to get a Note 5 for free? You think they're just going to do that? After all of this mess?
You said AT&T couldn't find one to sell you... so what is is, you are trying to get one for free, or you can't find one to buy? Apparently you CAN buy one. https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-N920C-Factory-Unlocked-Galaxy/dp/B013WACF4S?th=1
This has sucked for everyone affected. Personally I've been through two Note7's and ended up with a S7 Edge. If I wanted a S7 Edge I would have pre-ordered it when it came out. I stuck with Samsung because I use their features across all my other Samsung devices. Those devices include a NotePRO 12.2 (my laptop), Note 10.1 2014 (retired - now primarily my TiVo remote), Galaxy View (my portable home and away TV), and Gear S2. I use SideSync, S Note (including the Windows app), Scrapbook, Samsung Link, Samsung Pay, and Samsung's browser (ad free w/o root) and wasn't prepared to give those up. My non-Samsung device choices on AT&T amount to the LG V20 (too big for its screen size, not enough sizzle) or iPhone 7 (I'm not changing eco-systems). So I'm keeping the S7 Edge until the S8 comes out which will most likely be a Note7 with beefier specs and no S Pen. I'll hope for a Note8 in the fall and then I'll move from the S8 to it.
Like OP I had Note5 I was fine with. If the Note7 never came out I would have kept it and waited for what followed the S7-series. I do like the S7 Edge though and like the edge features I grew accustomed to on my time with the Note7. Since I do use S Note heavily I picked up a Tab A 8 with 4G and S Pen that I imported from Malaysia. It's a nifty small little tablet that's great for taking notes and it's on 6.0 so has the Note7's S Pen features. When I only want to carry one device I forward my calls from my S7 Edge to it and I can send and receive MMS on it using AT&T's unified messaging.
So I've exchanged phones three times, have a phone I wouldn't have chosen, and had to buy a tablet I wouldn't have needed. Sh!t happens. Samsung didn't want what happened to happen and neither did AT&T. I'm loyal to Samsung and Note devices especially so I'm just rolling with it. Of the over a dozen Samsung devices I own or owned this is the first time I've been let down. Assuming this incident has taught them humility their future products will be the best designed, best tested, and best QC'd on the market.
It is what it is.
Wow this thread truly makes my head hurt....
Let me make sure I get this right.
You are fully aware you can get a refund... for the FULL RETAIL AMOUNT of the phone, but don't want to do that, because you want AT&T or Samsung, to give you a Note 5... as a matter of principle???
There are PLENTY of Note 5 devices available for sale, at a MUCH lower price than the Note 7.
So you are UNWILLING to get a refund, and use that money to BUY a Note 5, and use the rest of the money for whatever you want.
This makes Z. E. R. O. sense. Please tell me I am missing something here, but getting around your generic rant and getting to the details was a bit difficult. End of an era? Like others have stated, the Note is a small percentage of their total sales. Until S7s and S7 edges start catching on fire, the era will continue just fine.

I can understand their point because I have gone through the same dilemma.
I had a Note 4 I was relatively happy with, but starting to get long in the tooth. I tend to get a phone every 2 versions if the new version is reasonable (so went from N2 to N4 for example). I never considered the N5 as I have a pretty full SD card and no way am I giving up running that.
So the N7 specs came out, and it was everything I wanted. Fork out the huge $1350au and pre ordered it. The rest of that chapter is well known (2 perfect Note 7s in 4 weeks).
Now, with what is assumed to be total abandonment of the Note 7 series, what are my options?
1-full refund-ok, but then I need to get a phone (N4 is now being used by my wife)
2-S7/S7E with gift card style refund ($450/$350au).
I forked out the $ to upgrade to a phone I really wanted. Now I have to still lose some of those $ to get a phone I never really wanted, nor would have considered.
The only resolution I can see is to have Samsung provide a loan device and re-release a Note/SPEN model again with SD card ASAP, or allow the cheap purchase of an inferior model and a discounted purchase of the new model when it becomes available. I will certainly be somewhat out of pocket over all this, plus not being able to use the phone I really was wanting to buy.
I have decided instead to get the closest phone to the N7, the S7E, with the Samsung offer in au it is basically getting it for $100 less, and hopefully it will have good resell value when the next N series comes out (but I haven't sold a phone in a long time now, always handy to keep older phone just in case!)
I never certainly planned to buy two new phones so soon!
I think buying the N5 at this stage is a massive compromise for most (esp with so little on board storage and no SD slot), I would think anyone taking this route now is doing it temporarily to keep them going to the next N release and thus 2 phones purchased when really they were after just 1, thus why we get all these threads. The N7 is almost perfect, anything else is a compromise until the N7 comes back into sale again (as N6+ lol).

I will still buy another samsung phone most like the next s8. Yes, i need to return the phone twice. But i got a few valuable free gifts. And got a full refund at the end. Not even iphone will do that. If you do the math, Samsung basically just gave me a travellers charger, a wireless charge, a power bank for free. So, why not getting the s8 next year, you won't have anything to lose

I seen the reddit site where people were talking about this refund process. So you know people who have confirmed getting a full retail check back already? I wanted to take this route with my sprint note 7 but I didn't want them to de activate my phone once I call to get the box sent. Rather it be blacklisted once I take it off my account when I get the return box.
As stated, the 13 people I provided that info to were "OK" with getting the refund from Samsung. Since I made that post one other person got their check already as well so it seems to be the course to take. Samsung might change things as I mentioned so the only way to know is call it and see what happens.
Can't speak for any blacklisting going on, all I keep hearing are rumors and the occasional report from someone that says their device has been blacklisted but there never seems to be any way to verify those stories. If the carriers actually publish statements that they plan to blacklist the Note 7 (which is within their rights to do since it's their networks) then I'll attach some more credence to it at that time but I don't expect it anytime soon if it ever does.
Samsung has said they'll accept returns through December 31, 2016 so, after that we'll see what happens with the carriers too I guess.

I can't do it ...

So ...
For the last few weeks, I've done nothing but scour the internet, reading articles, comparing specs, watching videos etc. and haven't found anything remotely close the the beauty of the Note 7, Samsung just has a way of designing phones to be elegant and appealing while making it functional in and out. I didn't really appreciate the little gimmicky features us Samsung "Fanboys" get until this recall, left me forced to look for a replacement phone. Being loyal to Samsung came pretty easy, not because of the name or anything, there just isn't another phone maker on the market that appeals to me aesthetically or on the tech front, Samsung stays ahead of the pack and always has some new reason to upgrade, at least for me.
What's making it hard to switch even temporarily to a different brand?
I've grown accustom to the curved screen that i once chocked up as a gimmick for its functionality, I now appreciate for it's feel and look, for example making the Note 7 look bezel-less and feel so comfortable in the hand. So while searching for a replacement I see other phones with curved screens and thing "Ok, here we go ..." then look how that companies curved screen functionality just pales in comparisons to Samsung's elegant, refined, clean UI and layout, even though I fully admit, I rarely ever use the edge function, but the thought of losing it makes me a bit sad. The same can be said for the s-pen, even as a graphic designer and digital illustrator, I don't use the s-pen as much as one would think, granted I do rough out sketches on my Note 10.1 2014 before going to my desktop and Wacom Cintiq almost every time I do client work, but the s-pen on my Note 7 stays in its silo unless I jot a quick memo or feel like playing with the functions ... but its there when I want it.
Wireless Charging & Fast charging isn't as accessible as you would think these days, considering Samsung users have it for years, I don't remember the last time i used a cord on my phone. I have an Official Samsung charging puck (non Fast-Charge) in my office at work, and an Official Samsung Wireless Fast-Charge Stand on my nightstand at home, again both functional and both beautiful looking with and without the phone on it.
Official Cases. Nobody does it like Samsung on Official cases, with every new Flagship purchase I grab all the Official Cases, beautiful, premium, function and overall are deigned to enhance the look and feel of the phone.
Build Material and Quality. Just top-notch.
Button Placement. After only using Samsung phones for so many years, the button placement is 2nd Nature. Laid out perfectly.
Camera, Don't even really need to go into details on that. Some of the best in the business. I use the camera daily, I take product photos for work in our portfolios online as well as print, and I use my Samsung's cameras to record our business videos. Everyone here uses the newest iPhones and still call me to take quick product photos for the clients, because as they say "Your phone takes way better pictures." And I agree lol.
Fingerprint scanner. Use it. It works and is refined to work great.
Samsung Pay. It works, haven't had it fail on me yet. And everywhere. Another reason why Samsung is the best in the business.
Iris scanner, new feature, call it a gimmick, I thought it was too at first, but damn ... it works, like every time, at least for me. And it's an awesome feature, Samsung gives you things like this to show you they are leading in innovation and tech, you don't have to use it, but you can if you want that extra gadget.
S-Health? I use it. I LOVE wearables, and once again Samsung leads the pack, I own the Gear s2 and Fit2 currently, and have owned every Gear since the 1st, I can't wait to dish out the money for the Gear S3 in a month either lol. And while the watch may connect to non-Samsung phones, the integration isn't the same. And I like everything cohesive.
Gear VR, Again, have had once since the Innovators Edition, and bought a shiny new one back in August for my Note 7, Use it maybe every 2-weeks to watch some Hulu or Netflix and explore some content, But again, even though I don't power use it, it's there when and if I want to, adding another cool function and layer to own a Samsung flagship.
Some people hate Touch-wiz, I've owned no other brand of phone since the Note 1, can't say I've ever had an abnormal lag issue that people say they've experienced, snag here and there, but name a device or OS that doesn't snag every once in a while. Touch-wiz, like it or not, is clean, smooth, functional, easy to navigate and customize, modern and elegant. I never have any issue with it and I power use with heavy media use pretty much daily.
That said, Samsung nailed it with the Note 7. They did and I know I'm not alone is saying that. This phone aesthetically, is perfect. symmetrical, minimal but still flashy with the glass and reflection, the shape of the phone is exactly how I always wanted a phone to look, rectangle, thin, flat and the edges only slightly rounded, unlike Samsung's S-Series that are very rounded and almost look like a toy or feminine in my opinion, very round and bubbly, the Note series, seems to look more masculine and business like with harder corners and a sharper less-gimmicky aesthetic. And the Blacked-out understated Black Onyx Note 7? ... c'mon. So freaking sleek.
Inside, Touch-wiz is clean, granted I also use the "Black Edition" Theme and an app that create custom rounded Google Paper-esque Icons for each App icon, making my home-screen so great looking. * App I use is called "Materialize" I highly recommend it.
So I guess to keep ALMOST everything i stated above, the smart and easy solution is to just grab an S7 and maybe I will, but VERY VERY reluctantly, and without a choice, because as I stated above, they're just ugly, the shape of the phone I just cant digest. Spec-wise the phone is a parallel phone, ascetically and feel-wise, it's not even in the same ball-park. My little brother owns and loves his S7 Edge, I purchased an S7 Edge Pink Gold for my mom when i grabbed my Note 7 in August, she loves it, Says shes never owned anything so pretty. But for me, after holding a Note 7, there's no going back, it may not be a downgrade on paper, but in hand and visually, anything but the Note 7 is a downgrade.
After reading article after article and comment after comment of people bashing Samsung and of people trying to bully people or talk them into just exchanging the phone, I figured I'd write this post up as a little bit of insight into why I at least haven't yet, and maybe I'm alone in feeling like this, don't really care.
Overall, I feel safe with the phone. I don't fly often (haven't in years and don't plan to anytime soon) so the FAA Ban doesn't affect me. I own my home, my wife doesn't feel threatened by the Note 7 (also a Samsung user) and I know if my phone does "explode" that it's on me, I take responsibility for holding onto the phone after the recall. I will not sue or go to the media.
But I can't for the life of me, turn this phone in. I can't. lol I want to, so i cant move on and pout this recall fiasco behind me and enjoy my phone and my Gear VR, but after weeks of researching and physically holding different phone options, they all pale in comparison. In my eyes, Samsung finally made the perfect phone aesthetically, at least for me. And now I just gotta give it back?! lol nah. Not yet at least.
I'm on the next plan through AT&T, turned my S6 Edge + into upgrade, so without the Note 7 I'm phone-less, I've looked into just buying a temp phone until the S8, granted that the S8 appeals to me. And even with buying a temp phone, it has to be up to spec and allow me to have the functions I've grown used to with Samsung's latest Flag-ships. So again, an S7 Edge is my only option, and paying $800 for a phone that I originally passed on almost a year, is a hard pill to swallow. To think the S8 is just gonna be another S7 looking phone with only a 5.5" screen and maybe an added iris scanner, isn't really getting me excited, but I can at least hope they took a page from the Note 7's looks for it.
And then to wonder if the Note series in general is dead ... man. lol That sucks. The Note series wasn't built off trend like the iPhone, it was built of merit, its earned its reputation and earns my business. The Note 7 having it's issues is so unfortunate, especially when in my opinion, its THE BEST Samsung phone to ever hit the market.
So while I still weigh my options for a replacement phone, not knowing if I will wake up to that dreaded only 60% charge or even worse a blocked IMEI or bricked phone. I don't do it lightly. This post and my feelings may seem excessive, but Aug/Sept is like my Superbowl, I wait yearly for new tech announcements and I really enjoy it, my phone is on me daily, everywhere. It get used a lot, i have to hold it and use it a lot. I have to enjoy using it and trust my information on it, it has to be an all in one, and for me ... it also has to look good doing it. So that's why I love this Note 7. It nails my criteria and kicks it up 100 more notches.
I'm sure this post will get trolls throwing the "fanboy" crap around or the know-it-all's blowing it up with "just turn it in!" nonsense, But at least here's one persons view of why i still carry a "potential bomb" (laughable) around. And for the people that could easily just return, switch brands or exchange to an S7 and move on, awesome, wish i could too, but for me it's not that simple, I have too much invested in Samsung, money-wise and routine-wise, and too much time and enjoyment invested in this specific phone to just hand it over.
Anyone else is the same boat?
Return it, get refund - wait till Galaxy S8 comes out.
Just like me dude
i wish i could like your post a billion times..you my friend jus gave the longest most interesting post i ever read. im not a poster im a reader but reading your post i had to say something..sadly for us in America samsung is releasing a big screen phone over in china..6gbram..6inch screen..im not sure about s pen though..its the C9 coming out in november..hopefully we get a phone very twin brotherly similar to the note 7 because its the best phone i ever used..

Sorry I didn't want to repost everything you wrote. I feel exactly the same way, word for word! Your post is upsetting me even more now, and you didn't even mention the water resistant feature or ability to pin hand written notes/reminders to the Always On Display...this feature meant I never had to turn on or touch my phone to remind myself of tasks when I am at work. Also, I rooted my phone and applied the dual speakers mod giving it the stereo sound with Viper4Android I so badly wanted on my Note.
It is a total and complete phone! How can I replace it???
I've received an email from Samsung saying they're arranging collection of my Note 7. :crying: I don't want to give it up but I also don't want to be in a situation where the phone is remotely killed and I miss out on the refund/replacement altogether. :crying:

I feel the exact same way. I have owned every Note since the Note 1 so I am obviously a huge fan. I actually bought the s7 Edge just in case the phone gets blocked or bricked and I still can't bring myself to send back the Note 7.
I can say I feel very much the same way.. with perhaps a bit the exception of S Health since the measurements aren't always correct (instead, I use a fitbit, and manual checking of heartrate/bloodpressure/glucose (which I then again do enter into S Health so it's not entirely pointless to me)).
As I have to return the Note 7 the same time as my wife (which is the biggest reason I haven't done just yet, our schedules are very different), I keep browsing the net, hoping to read or see something that makes me interested to another phone, but I keep coming back to my Note 4 when the day comes that I return my Note 7. The S7 Edge is in a decent second position (I've already stepped away from the idea of upgrading my phone and decided whatever I get next I'll just buy), and the V20 in a third place. There's still some thought of the Pixel but very little to be honest. I'll need to check them out in the store, maybe even take them for a week or so to make a decision (they don't do restocking fees in my state.
But yeah, so far, nothing has come close to the Note 7, and in a way I'm kind of glad my wife and I have such different schedules that I don't really have to get a new phone straight away.. or actually, perhaps I should, but it gives me a bit of an excuse (to my own that is, I know some people feel different about that, to each their own I guess) to keep it for now. I wont be flying for a few more months so I have time lol
I'm disappointed to have gave up my Note, it was a hell of a device, more so on the design front, it's the best designed phone I've ever had, but I got a Pixel XL now and you no what I'm happy with it, the design is lacking a bit but other wise it's still a good alternative.

Do what YOU want. YOU. You are not put on this Earth to follow orders from others. As long as you are not harming anyone else then do it. KEEP IT.
It really isn't that complicated.
I bought my first mobile phone in 1989! From that time I have literally owned hundreds of them. I cant think of a brand I have not owned but bet I could mention one or two most of you have not heard of! lol
This Note 7 was something else. It was so much more than 'just' a mobile phone, it just felt superb to own and to hold. It was so feature rich that I have had to keep out of numerous threads here where the OP is asking what to exchange the Note 7 for? The answer is literally so simple. There is nothing presently on the market that combines all the features, quality and performance that the note 7 does-did. Sure some have this or that feature but the Note 7 had the lot and many more besides.
I am so disappointed to have had to return my mobile TWICE I just cant write any more on that point.
My only hope is to get another 'tech junkie fix' in March? Failing that...........well lets see.
The Note 7 in some form must live on and Samsung should be hard at word in their R&D department ensuring the Note range continues.
I disagree entirely when the media continually writes reports about the lasting damage done to Samsung. Not at all. Samsung made the recall what else could they do? Though I doubt conspiracy I do think some of the media reports have hidden agendas and a few have been totally false, still, this is what sells the media and its to be expected these days.
I recall with horror the scenario regarding the Asus Transformer Prime.... Asus lead the field in tablet note books yet dropped a massive clanger with the Prime, its GPS and wi-fi didn't work as the inside antennas could not penetrate the metal top cover so we all bought a paper weight. Asus was literally taken to court in numerous countries and even very large petitions where drawn up. Asus ignored the lot and look at them today.
How many of you remember the infamous transformer Prime? I spent 3,000€ two weeks ago on an Asus ROG lap top!
This situation will blow over and the media will soon look for the next bad news they can report on and milk.
I hope Samsung compensate those of us who bought two Note7's and went through the ringer. I also hope Samsung get their act together and help those who are requesting help and support.
Incredible mobile, incredible to own and operate. I truly miss the device every day. I need that bloody pen! Unable to purchase a Note 5 here in Europe and the Note 4 prices have got to a silly point costing as much as the SG S7 edge. I wanted to buy a note 4 but I must force myself to wait till next march. Self control is not my strong point with my tech vice!

The only Phone that is comparable to the Note 7 is the Mate 9. Look it up, due for release next month. Makes you wonder, Mate, Note. For all WE know is it is all part of a long drawn out marketing plan.
Besides the official release date for the Note 7 in Europe was (is still listed as) October 28th. Same exact date the Note 2 was released. And the Note Edge. And the Galaxy View. Hmmm. Pattern Recognition alert!

Ever considered the Note Pro 12.2?
Strange how there aren't many other Samsung devices that utilize the SPen Stylus. Was looking for alternatives to the Note 7 and in lieu of following the 'in-crowd' I went completely in the opposite direction. Eye-ing the Galaxy View right now, along with the Note Pro 12.2, but can't find it currently on sale anywhere!!?
If anything resembles the original Note 7 then we are looking at the Mate 9. Mate? Note? SEE how this works.
IRIS = SIRI It's all the same 'system'.

Yea Samsung has no shortage of unlocked phones to choose from, the remaining problem with grabbing one is no VR comparability still.
I'm locked down to Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, S7 or S7 Edge to use my VR, but at this point I'm looking and open to anything even if just temporary.

wait the other samsung phones arent vr compatible..smh super dumb..im thinkin of the note 5 and just rooting it and slapping on a rom but idk that small battery nd no sd card is a bummer
Thanks, OP. Very well stated. I feel exactly the same. I'm keeping mine until they set a deadline for a refund, they block my IMEI, or the Galaxy S8 comes out.
The Huawei Mate 9 leaks look good, but no wireless charging, no S Pen, and no Samsung Pay. Plus the higher resolution curved screen may be China only.

Nope, unless there is and I don't know about it, but I'm pretty sure the VR privliges are reserved for the flagship, with the high specs.
I've thought about the Note 5 and i might be willing to lose the curved screen and SD card at least temporarily. Honestly I had the S6 Edge + before the Note 7 and never ran into a storage problem, used the cloud for stuff and never keep a lot of games or anything on my phone anyways, i leep those on my tablet, between VUDU, Google Play Movies, Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Video and Music, storage wasnt an issue. But I'd prefer to never have to go back to no SD card again lol.
Is there a Note 7 rom for the Note 5?
I am exactly glad sharing the attitude towards this beatiful device, no other phone can compare not the Icrapphone or the piCRaPxel

Yeah that what we were saying, all a substantial downgrade in my opinion though.

it's sad it's come to an end

This is the last message I will type with my Note7, after I finish this I will wipe and put it in its box for collection tomorrow. Every item lovingly wrapped in its original packing and lables perfectly packaged looking like the box was never opened.
Do you think Samsung would mind if I kept the ota adaptor?
Also do I just hand over the Note7 box or should I wrap it in something?
I will now see some of you in the one plus 3 forum or next year if Samsung can convince me to go to a note8 I will be there.
Weather your keeping or returning I wish you all the best.

I thought you had to return everything in the box?
I would love to keep the accessories. Just don't want to mess up refund etc
I am pretty sure a lot of people just sent the phone in and kept the accessories. I know that's what I am going to do. I doubt there will be anything said or done about it. Hell, I spent hundreds on accessories for my Note 7 that will be useless once I turn the phone in, so it is a very small thing to keep the charger and cord IMO. Doesn't nearly make up for all I lost in the big picture.
ooMoo you don't say what country you are in but from what I remember of your previous posts you are UK based like myself.
I've returned both the original and replacement phones. Each time I only returned the phone (the first one I even kept the Spen as a spare for the replacment) and have had no problems and now received my refund from Samsung.
It's not like they can do anything with second hand accessories, they'll just become more landfill. Be eco-friendly and keep them!

I'm sure the bits would come in handy. I just hope if I do keep a few bits I'm as lucky as you when they check.
it all depends if they check, O2 actually commented on the fact I never put the USB lead and S-Pen nibs in with the first replacement, ended up they did want them when I said they were welcome to send someone to pick them up like they did the phone. with the final return they wanted the Gear VR back I was going to send it back I have no use for it any more, the courier refused to take anything more than the phone in the box, I had to wait over a week after them getting the phone collected before I could even get them to remove the Note off my account so I could get another phone, during that time they complained about the Gear VR not being there so I offered to return it to a store or send it back if they sent a paid packet but they decided it didn't matter so they obviously had the phone it was still about another 4-5 days before I could get them to remove the phone from my account by that point I had got a a Pixel XL from EE and told them they could go fornicate with a rusty pole.
but then what can you expect from the firm that once told me 3G was a failure and no one would ever use it.
so what you have to send back depends on the firm you got your phone from and how crap and unhelpful they are.
Samsung does not care about anything but the phone. Not the stylus nor the accessories nor the VR or SD card or Gear Fit2 that were issued on promotion.. They do not care if you take a hammer and smash the Note7 to bits. They just want the Note back so they can check it off the list and send it to a recycling firm.
IF you run into some shady sellers that require you to produce the Promo items or accessories know that they only want to be able to profit from your gullibility or the goodness of your heart.

Damn mate. I feel ya.
I have to return mine tomorrow too. And although I've already moved on to the LG V20, it still hurts prepping it for return. It's like losing your first love, you can't quite get over it completely.
Yeah... The note 7 was probably the perfect phone
I myself have moved to the v20 and am loving it. But I still remember my note 7 days...
Anyways, they let me keep all the accessories.. Cables, charger, adapters.....
Oh yeah, I'm definitely keeping the rest. Just returning the phone.
Especially the S Pen. I'm just gonna get maybe the Note 8.0 pre-owned, and then use the S Pen on it.
That's it for me. My Note 7 has departed. Feeling depressed now.
Don't feel so sad. If you can wait for Note8, it will be thabomb . OK, bad joke. But those that say Note8 should be amazing are probably right because Samsung needs to get their reputation back badly.

Carphone Warehouse here in the UK are the country's biggest mobile phone supplier. in addition, all the Samsung stores in the UK are in fact staffed and run by Carphone Warehouse.
Carphone Warehouse insist on you handing the GearVR over.
I got my fire proof box to send my phone back a couple of days ago. I only put the phone in the box. I even kept the s-pen for my next device that it might be compatible with.

Well, I did say Samsung. How is it possible to fit the VR headset into the ceramic box they send for recovery? It isn't.... Are they sending a shipping container for the VR headset? I doubt they are.
So, Samsung only cares about the phone getting returned like I said. Whatever this other company wants is above and beyond the recall process and they just want to make some flow. Remember, the VR headsets were subsidized by Samsung and no one else....
Sadly my ride with the note7 is coming to an end. I got my Axon 7 which is a very nice phone. Not a note7 but it looks and feels nice.

Same here. If by any chance a customer didn't return to the store every single thing in the box etc, Samsung charged the store. My store was so angered by the attitude over the VR that the STORE gave me a VR themselves FOC.
The Samsung importer in this country is awful.
This is one major area I think Samsung Korea should have cleaned its act up by making one rule across the globe for returns.
Knowing UK consumer laws are stiff I would suspect, I don't know, that the VR as a free 'gift' would not be required to be part of any return. I would think a visit to ones local CAB and a chat with one of their legal reps would soon sort that out?

Or.... One could be selfish and not invest any more free time into this matter by driving to a physical storefront, waiting in queue, spending gas or transit fees AND ENDANGERING EVERYONE AROUND THEM by carelessly transporting these DEADLY devices through the public thoroughfares and simply say ....come and get it.
That would show just what you need to return or not. heh heh heh
