Yea, this is ridiculous....Advanced calling isn't even available in the menu, it says something about upgrading service to HD calling, whatever that is.

Yeah, but you have to upgrade to it to be able to make phone calls and use data simultaneously. It doesn't cost extra.

I think read somewhere that if your phone is on a business plan (maybe family plans too?), it has to be activated online. Don't quote me on it though, I may be wrong.

I have a corporate discount but it's my personal plan.

I don't know. All I did was touch that to activate. A little screen popped up to confirm and that was it. I'm also just on a personal plan. Maybe call customer service about it? It's supposed to be included so I don't know why they have you activate it in the first place.

Yes, even personal account, you have to log into your account at vzw online and "add" advance calling. I am on unlimited data, and still had no issues....I still don't like it though, if I am on a 4G call and briefly walk into a building where I lose 4G, the call drops, smh......I really wish they would just continue to make phones with two antennas until that technology is more advanced.

So I stopped by a VZW store and tried talk and data on two M9s, and both gave me the same result, you CAN talk and data at the same time. I confirmed that advanced calling was off, restarted phones, confirmed advanced calling is still off, and placed some calls.
So I guess it has two antennas? And not just the single tri-band antenna like the Nexus 6, Galaxy S6, and mlst other new phones?
So are you sure your VZW M9 wasn't able to talk and data out of the box while you were on 4G?

Well I have the nexus 6 an without enabling I couldn't use both phone an data. An when I tried to go to play store when I first got m9 on data an during a phone call it wouldn't let me. Was that store device on WiFi? If so then you can call an use data without enabling it if WiFi is turned on.

Galaxy Nexus on Tmobile USA

Does anyone own a Galaxy Nexus connected to Tmobile USA's HSPA+ network in Chicago or midwest? Was wondering what kind of speed are you getting? Thanks in advance.

I don't see why it wouldn't. All you need is a sim card and the ability to change your plan to that one. I'd consider that plan myself, but I use too many minutes.
It'll be as fast as any other 21mbps HSPA device...

Yeah it will; That's what I'm getting too Already have the sim card (DO NOT BUY AT A "Authorized Dealer" ... they rip you off beyond all reason... I normally avoid them but, for some reason, bought the card from them and paid an extra $15)
Btw if you do the math, you can do an extra 400 minutes in overages before you would be going over the $70 price of the Unlimited Everything (5GB of 4G) plan.
So with the $30 plan, you are better off if you use less than 500 mins per month... I use none ...

In San Fran on T-Mo I got 4 down and 0.6 up.

I'm new to T-Mobile US. I remember reading something about there being issues when importing a GSM phone not distributed by T-Mobile. Maybe it was only related to porting the iPhone to T-Mobile? Can't remember.

The only issues bringing phones to T-mobile is they often only get 2G service on the network (most quadband phones don't have AWS freq that T-mo use). Other than that, everything works just fine. The Galaxy Nexus is of course pentaband and gets 3G just fine on T-mo.
FWIW there are several hundred thousand iPhones running unlocked on T-mobile right now lol.

I remember with Windows Mobile phones not sold by T-Mobile, to set up MMS you have to manually specify the gateway, server address, and port number to get MMS to work with T-Mobile's network. Is this still necessary? It's been several years since I had to do this so it might not be relevant anymore.

And btw OP, only you can know what the speeds are in your specific location. Even someone within a few miles of you could get quite different speeds because of the load on the tower nearest you.

Wait, so do you have to specify the network and APN or not? The "funny business" is exactly this manual specification of the network info.

Most of the time no. It should pull the info over the network and be all set up for you when you put the SIM in. If you find MMS doesn't work, changing APN settings might be required. You only do it once, it isn't a big deal.

this reminded me back in 2010 when iphone 4 was first released and apple made a big push for its facetime feature. my coworkers and i were in a bar and both of them just got the iphone4 that not too long ago and they were trying to showoff facetime to me. long story short, they couldn't get it to work because there was no wifi, then i said "you want wifi, now you have it" and turned on wifi tether for them. they were able to do facetime after that, except even after that they were still saying how great iphone was like typical ifan boys. needless to day, i no longer associate with them anymore.

HD voice 1.0 ( How is it? )

Who has activated HD voice 1.0 and has any feed back on it?
Weird you have to activate it yourself majority of people that will just take the update (regular users) won't know to activate it.
It says billed as regular calls so I guess that means it's free if you have unlimited calling which most all of us do right?
Funny you post this I notice for a couple of days I couldn't talk on my note edge and browse the Internet at the same time on 4G and I called verizon and that's what they told me my HD VOICE Service wasn't activated so they did it and now it's working

I'm confused. Just updated to lollipop today. Do I lose simultaneous voice and data when on a non-4G network if I update to advanced calling 1.0?
It isn't to bad honestly. It does have more of that VoIP sound than the POTS some of us older people remember. I am not even that old and already using "older" sigh I am doomed.
For it being free, I didn't see a reason not to take it. I haven't done any video calling yet with it so I can't comment there.

I could be wrong, but this phone doesn't support simultaneous voice and data UNLESS you are on 4G(LTE). Using the phone while on 3G to make a call will send the signal to 1X which means no data only voice. It will still work with simultaneous voice and data while on wifi.
I still think Verizon should of made it auto enabled with the lollipop update. Especially since it is free. Some people are not going to realize to enable it and that's just the truth.

Actually, the Note 4 is one of the last Verizon phones to come with dual antennas as opposed to just one like the more recent ones. So, it does support simultaneous voice and data no matter what. I'm concerned that I will lose this functionality if I update to HD voice.
You can always swap back. I tried it and found it dangerous as you must have strong 4g for it to work. At my home I have touchy 4g that alternates with 3g. Cell signal always good though. When on HD there is no handout between 4g and cell tower.. So get choppy calls.

My phone will drop to 3g at random in my house. Every time that happens your advanced calling call will drop. If I drive across town I will also lose 4g. That's another dropped call.
I think verizon realizes this is a half baked product that their network isn't ready for and are letting people who really want it opt in. The rest of us can keep our business calls from dropping since HD voice has 0 effect on a call with a non HD voice phone (like any landline).

AT&T compatibility

For those of you using AT&T. Do not update your IMEI at this time and hope that the system doesn't auto update it. LTE is not supported on the OP3. I am currently stuck on 4G due to this problem.
I have opened a ticket to get the OP3 registered. I will date back here.
My ATT service is perfect with LTE.
Update your APN's
Nextgenphone and ATT Phone. The network is blocking LTE access. Your IMEI hasn't updated yet. Mine worked fine for a few hours.
I work in a cor AT&T store. There were features removed when I changed my IMEI. Once AT&T updates their IMEI database it'll be fine.
I've had the phone since noon on Friday and still no issues with AT&T. I have not called to change IMEI.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I am having same problem, my two devices are stuck in HSPA mode. I spent over an hour online chat with AT&T to no resolution. They tried but could not understand the problem. I had the phones activated at corporate store today too. Hopefully this problem gets resolved soon.
Guys don't bother with the att reps. Most of them have no idea what they are doing with an iPhone let alone anything else. The worst thing you can do is call them for help.
I agree with zelendel even though I work for the company. I am sure I'm not the only person who has opened a ticket to the OP3 added. In the mean time if you call customer service and just ask them to have a manager approve adding the nextgenphone apn to your line then it will fix the issue temporarily. I have LTE back for the time being.
How temporarily is the fix? And is there an eta on when att will fix the problem? I will be returning this phone if I can't use LTE on it.
So will this phone be updated and approved to receive LTE in the future by att? This is kind of a major deal if not.

Too late for it to be approved. This is one of the things you learn to deal with when you buy China based devices. They don't get approved by the Fcc which in turn causes issues with LTE and what not.

if what the OP said is true, u can get another IMEI that uses a nano sim card and then call att to activate that IMEI with att and then just reinsert the sim into the OP3 without calling, I did not update IMEI either but i do have a little issues with downloading things it switches back and forth quickly between 4+ and LTE but still get good speeds
Just opened my OP3 an hour ago and put my ATT nano sim in.

Yeah my LTE worked fine for at least 5 hours after I changed the IMEI. I was at work on WiFi so I don't know when it quit exactly. Even putting my sim back in a recognized device yielded no data. Called in got the nextgenphone added to my line, LTE came back. The problem with using another IMEI is sooner or later the system will update and you end up with no data.

Changing the IMEI is not only illegal but can also cause other issues with the device it's self.

The IMEI will be updated when they scan the network which they do from time to time.

So because of you I should expect to see a text from AT&T saying they've detected that I'm using a smartphone and have added an expensive data plan? Great.
Pretty sure you just needed to use the right APN.

Well considering what you are doing is fraud that is on you.
also try to go to the AT&T Phone APN not the ATT Nextgenphone

VPN hotspot works great for me. You have to turn off hardware acceleration in developer options and use a VPN as well for it to work though.
These are some of the reasons I had to get rid of the pixel 6 can't even screen cast on the things either lol

I haven't tried it yet, but why doesn't it work? The option is there in settings.

I haven't had any issues with Screencast. Seems most other people haven't either. Maybe it was your device specific?

They're probably talking about the fact Google only allows Chromecast, not Miracast.
To sucessfully get away with full free unlimited tethering, you'll need to be rooted and run a custom kernel that allows TTL spoofing. I found this thread very helpful when setting it for myself. I did pay the $5 for EX Kernel Manager to auto-apply the script on bootup:

What network carrier are you on?
Haven't used it in a while, but does anyone know if PdaNet+ still works?
I'm on Verizon and I use this module with zero issues. https://github.com/evdenis/tether_unblock/releases

No, it depends on the carrier and the plan that you're on. In his case and my case, we're on the old unlimited data plan on Verizon. You have to pay a separate fee to utilize tethering. The old unlimited data plan doesn't get deprioritized like Verizon's current offerings that include tethering at full speed for X gigs and then it gets throttled.

On Verizon's new 5g plans, you no longer get deprioritized on their highest cost plan... so it's similar to the OG UDP.

I just tried this and it seems to work so far. Thanks. The connection seems a bit slower than what I'm used to but I'll keep testing.

Yeah, I saw that, but I failed to mention that I get a discount on my plan through my employer. So it's a nice hefty 30%~ off per month and new plans are not eligible for employer discounts.

Strange, the speeds seem fine to me when I'm tethering from my phone. With ****ty signal and only 4G I'm getting like 40-50 Down and 2-5 Up.
