[Q] S6 Edge Lag and stutter - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

So I got the S6Edge and its suppose to be lag free most of the time, but mine lags when typing and sometimes misses letters I type, also the touchwiz launcher sometimes freezes and switching apps lag and stutter, google chrome and the Samsung browser aren't smooth at all, they suffer from freeze and lag, what can I do?
Will flashing stock firmware remove lag?
Start ing to regret this phone, I paid $1000 for it and there's lag..

Yes thats what im thinking also, this supposed to bw the fastest phone amd t still lags . I had the Nexus 6 , Moto 2014 and the Htc m8 all of them with zero lag. From Galaxy s6 edge I take out the camera and everything else is a fail.

I don't have these issues. I would go ahead and start fresh.

I have no lag or stutter at all. I'm rooted.
The only issue is a not so good battery life but it's been fixed by using airplane mode at home where I literally have no signal and depend on WiFi calling anyway.
If you had to update via OTA then I suggest you re-flash the stock ROM as that doesn't seem to have issues while the OTA might have introduced a few

The better fix for the battery issue has been to reflash the stock recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s6-edge/help/rooting-deep-sleep-t3079385

Yeah mine does it too. I'm very close to returning my phone. I have gone through two so far, my third one will be delivered today. If this has stutter as well along with GPS issues, I'm done. I have less than 7 days left in my buyers remorse period. So It is now or never.
I may try the M9, but I honestly think I'm just gonna use my iPhone 6 until the Nexus 2015 or Note 5 is available.

I was in your boat too. Try the suggestion above. There is something with the update they pushed that is not only killing the battery but makes the entire phone lag. Follow the thread posted above and clear cache and do a full reset. I was literally going to go get an M9 2 days ago before I did this. Entirely different phone now. I got 15 hours today with over 4 hours screen on time and zero lag.

Okay cool I'll give it a try. On another note though it appears to have been hardware issues. My GPS was broken so it kept seeking location which dropped my battery way down. It also just couldn't find my location. I have cleared cache and done all that jazz with it and even used GPS Fix to no avail. So far this new replacement seems to be doing the job.
I'll take a look at not doing the OTA.

You should do the ota, but then clear cache and reset to factory afterwards.

Just to clarify once you do the ota update you will want to power off the phone and then hold the volume up + home button + power button. Once booted into clear cache and then do a factory reset.

Just my two cents, I think this is a memory leak issue. I've seen the phone start to get bogged down but with a quick restart, the smoothness returns as it should. I'm hoping that 5.1 will fix this memory leak.

If all else fails try this.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3079176
Helped clear up a lot of things for many people. My main issue was fast battery drain. Seems to be a lot better now. I'm a pretty heavy user so this helped me.

I would go ahead and start fresh.

I have the same problem, I'm on stock 5.1.1

This fixed my phone, if it helps you say thanks.
Download Debloater http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294
install and run
disable "com.tmobile.pr.adapt"

Galaxy Note 2 lagging after a few days of use??

I got my phone last monday and today my phone was lagging while swipping through home screens, app drawer and even in settings. It was like project butter was shutdown and I was back to the epic 4g. Thought kind strange giving the specs on this phone.. I have stock jb and no root.
After a restart everything went back to normal.
Just curious, does this happen to everyone here? Is this normal to happen after 2-3 days of use?

You must not be actually closing apps just hitting home I assume but if not then idk the problem
Sent from my SPH-L900
Yes I did close them... I even tried force closing all. Not sure why the phone was struggling a little.
you didn't enable power saving mode by any chance?
also, android should be fairly good at managing your memory. i believe google doesn't really recommend task killers because whenever you kill tasks that the OS needs, it'll just reload it, which itself consumes resources (maybe more resource than letting the process simply idle). so just leave those processes alone.
Are you running SetCPU? Make sure it didn't accidentally severely under clock you. That happened to me once and SETCPU was running me at 200 mhz for some reason.

I would double check on all the apps you've previously installed. I'm still on stock JB unrooted as well since released day (Oct 25), not once I've experience any lag that yours producing. Heck I've loaded a bunch of games and apps now my main storage is down to a gig, even then I haven't noticed any slow down. This phone is a beast thats all I can say.

Yeah, thats unfortunate because if anything the phone should speed up after a few days of use. Why don't you just keep it to the 1 thread you started in the GT 7100 forum? You already got 4 pages of responses there. And post a video of what you're talking about because the phone should not lag at all with power savings off.

I didn't strat a thread there... just replied to one and it was a different are of problem anyway..
Guys.. I didn't install any task killer, I just force off using that long pressing home button and going into running apps, the phone, no power saving mode on, still unrooted and very few apps. I use Android for 3 years and I looked all the places to make sure settings would not be causing this and it was not.
Really weird problem... it's fine now I just hope it keeps running this way by tomorrow.. I'll let you all know, if anything I'll make a video if I can reproduce.

Don't close the apps down just back out of them because you'll lag more when your phone sits there trying to open them all up again and cache them. But I agree its a strange problem, if this occurs againit might be something very specific.

That's strange. Yeah I would pay close attention to the problem and if it do come back, then maybe you probably have a bad note II. You never know, not everything are created equal. In that case I would take it in for a repair person to check it out.
Is there a way to know if all cores are running on stock Android?
I've also seen some sick battery life in this phone, but not on mine. Yesterday I got 12 hours with about 3 1/2 of screen, with few and short phone calls. What I used the most on this phone was the internet and the browser..
Not sure if these are related.
EDIT.... I installed CPU usage Monitoring and the 4th core stays off most of the time.. when I opened videos and messed with more apps it started working so I'm answering myself on that. Also, I played a video with the pop up function and the cpu only gets to about 30% and not even on all cores... wow.. the processing power here is really impressive.

Even though I would never use a phone like that, still very impressive...

Problems with d851. Could really use some advice.

So, I bought it on launch day and I'm getting desperate...
1) Wake screen after receiving notification (text etc). Pull down notification bar, back and multitask soft buttons grey out and phone will not respond. If I'm listening to music when this happens, the song keeps playing until I pull the battery or the phone reboots itself.
2) General lag is awful... More than half the time it has noticeable hangs switching apps or opening anything. I'm down to next to no apps that i've installed and have even tried removing just about everything I have with no improvement. Scrolling stutters about half the time as well. And the image you see with the camera open stutters badly also. Every once in a while it's buttery smooth for a few seconds then slows again.
Battery life is great and I love the form factor of this phone. I REALLY don't want to get rid of it but I'm at the point where it's more important to have a phone that's usable than have the extra screen size etc.
It's bone stock and I haven't tried a factory reset.
Suggestions?
Try the factory reset then go from there.

Gonna give it a while longer but I'm thinking it's time to root. What's the "hot setup" for the tmo version of this phone?

I meant rom/mods. I've seen people mention 60fps mod for the camera but I was wondering if there was an international rom that worked with the d851 since we haven't seen any of the updates for this phone yet.

You can freeze apps from your Application Settings :3 From what I understand though, if you are truly experiencing some bad lag, the phone might be defective; in which case, I would get a replacement as soon as possible d: I have not experienced any significant lag other than the occasional recent app's button delay, but even that is hardly noticeable. Besides, if I spent about $800 on a device, I would hope that it is not laggy, right? XD Unacceptable!

Would a video of it lagging help me get advice on the problem?
Verizon would send me a certified like new phone. Id prefer not to do that.
I was on an s5 that wasnt getting me good signal for data and the usb cover broke, so i upgraded to the note 4 as soon as it was released, i should of waited for the dev edition.

Unfortunately, I am probably just as clueless > 3<; I'm essentially just repeating what other people said on XDA
Regarding the certified/refurbished phone replacement though, I would strongly consider it after reading jonahtriangle comment in this thread - especially if your phone is having noticeable lag. Besides, if your phone is defective and you have to fix it... isn't your phone inevitably going to become a refurb? :silly:
If you have not tried already, you could also disable apps and change some [developer] settings to make your note 4 experience smoother. This youtube video was pretty helpful - mostly because I didn't know developer settings existed :silly:

I just realized that I didn't ask this: Has your phone been laggy since purchase? Or did the laggyness happen suddenly - maybe after installing app(s)?
Additionally, some people have claimed that touchwiz is laggy. Although I did not experience any lag personally with touchwiz, I did find that I prefer Nova Launcher. If you have not tried it, I highly recommend it.

If you have disabled the apps that you don't use or want and have tried a cache cleaner like 1 Tap Cleaner or one of the other pretty good cache cleaners in the Play Store and you're still getting lag then look to see what widgets you have running and how often they are updating. If you have apps that you've downloaded but never use, get rid of them, they could be running in the background eating up resources. If all else fails, often a Factory Reset will fix a lagging phone. I know it is a PITA because you have to set the phone up again and download apps, but for a lag problem, it often works.

I've actually read that cache cleaners and other "optimizers" are unnecessary for phones like ours I do not use them personally and do not experience any noticeable lag so I would recommend caution when installing apps like that.

Hey, glad you're not experiencing lag, but my post was not directed to you. The apps I reference are not "optimizers". Yes, there are "optimizers" out there that create more problems than they fix. But, a good cache cleaner can make a positive difference if you are running apps that constantly store cache. Over time that cache mounts up and eats a look of memory that is not available for the system to immediately use. This doesn't create a problem (storing cache) if you turn your phone off every day, but many users don't do that. Turning your phone off and back on will clear most of the cache stores. If you don't clear the cache stores your phone will eventually lag or slow down. That is when a good cache cleaner is handy to have. Most manufactures somewhere in their literature recommends turning your phone off and back on every day or so. There is a good reason for that. PITA stands for Pain in the Ass.

One other recommendation before you do a Factory Reset of return your phone. Power your phone off and boot into Safe Mode (hold power and volume down, when the phone turns on release the power button but continue to hold down the volume down. Your phone will boot as normal but without loading any of your downloaded apps). Run the phone in Safe Mode and see if you still have lag. If the lag is no longer there then it is probably a problem with one or more of your downloaded apps/widgets

agreed. my retail note 4 has ZERO lag. my developer edition has ZERO lag. defective device or you have it completely full with too much running which i think would take a lot of apps etc because i am a heavy user and its still runs like butter
I should have time tuesday to transfer everything to my nexus 6, then im trying a reformat to see if the note 4 works any better.
If it works, ill keep it as a tablet for the note features.
If not i'll just stick with the nexus 6, im thinking stock would be a better experience (ive pretty much been a samsung guy)

Just updated..... From a look and feel standpoint it is still as laggy for me as always. Not sure what to think. Multi tasking is still as terrible as ever. Cannot Switch to another app and back to chrome without the page reloading, for me makes the phone almost unusable for what I need it for. While I was updating I broke out my note 3 and I swear it feels twice as fast as this phone. I am sure the typical it is a lollipop issue will be the response to the multi tasking issue, but the lag this phone has is unbearable. And small little things they could have easily fixed like the night clock are still not fixed. I am not sure what to think at his point.

It seems even though on Nexus, 5.1.1 doesn't completely fixed the memory issue, it is just better and improved. Google been said it will be fixed completely only on Android M.
Can you report any RAW and manual shutter support in camera? Any guest mode or multi-user mode available?

Also can you run this app to test the camera api2?

I somehow don't think the mass killing of application is Lollipop's problem by Samsung's. Other phones like the M9 or G4 had no problems with that. Lollipop only make the matter a bit worst due to its memory leak but still it shouldn't be so bad.
Before I get my s6e, I have using the Nexus 5. Since the first day 5.0 is released, I never had such terrible memory issues whereby I have to be afraid to switch applications because the things I do might be gone. I think either the LMK is too aggressive or the Touchwiz is still using up too much ram.
I am sure the typical it is a lollipop issue will be the response to the multi tasking issue
I'm on it now it seems to be a lot better did restore with odin and wipe everything

I was, I lost it, and I can't get it back. Phone hangs at "RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING". PingPong says it's not supported.
*EDIT* I noticed that all of the apps I disabled (with the exception of WhatsApp) prior to updating are still disabled, so I'm not too worried about waiting until Chainfire updates.

Ping pong will not root 5.1.1 even, the kernel date is after may 15. For those who wants root just wait to update until a dev releases the flashable version, which requires you to flash the modem, etc in Odin

I think you got a lemon there, and should go change it. I have a note 3 as well and nowhere as fast as my S6E. I think the carrier ones have the most issues with lag and battery life. My international version is just superb, smooth and fluid from day one. The aggressive RAM is there, and hopefully they fix on updates.
Mine keeps failing with tghe OTA for some reason, even did a factory reset after un-rooting. Can I flash this via Odin or smart switch?
thanks,
AC

Yes, ODIN is the way to flash.
Is the brightness bug fixed when even if auto brightness is turned off it still dims
I swear I can't get this to download past 1.0 gig even though it's 1.5.
I get an unexpected end of data when trying to extract with 7zip.
Any ideas?

I'd never noticed that bug before, but the setting seems to work as it should in this build. I'm in a dark room now, and turning off auto brightness brought the screen to full bright.
Let me guess, have to download on a pc?
Can't figure out how to upload a screen screen shot, only have a cancel button , pretty weird

What theme are you using? Looks legit
The webpage at http://dl.sammobile.com/M1FbRj0mIj1...fQkNbXUE./G925TUVU2COF6_G925TTMB2COF6_TMB.zip might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Anyone else getting that? Anyone willing to mirror? Lol. I NEVER get Sam Mobile to work. Always times out, but never got that message

The lag is ridiculous - any way to identify app(s) causing it? Any chance it needs

I've been dealing with lag for quite some time. I even tried formatting and reinstalling to see if that would help. Waste of time
I tried uninstalling apps that seem to stay open all the time but that didn't help
Not sure what else to do

Mine starts to lag after a couple weeks to a month from last factory reset. Factory reset. Smooth for a couple weeks to a month. I have no idea why, but it's aggravating.
Same issue here. I factory reset once a month just to keep me from throwing it out the window.

LOL.. that's funny way of saying
I will add this: since I turned HD voice off, the phone overall is working better. I suspect the unstable connection may have been utilizing more resources or something. However, it starts to freak out gaming because it gets HOT. That's why, in my truck, I play games (sitting still) I keep an AC vent aimed at it. Someone needs to invent a fan case...

I agree. This is an OS issue (memory leaks, generally crappy code), not a what-apps-are-running issue.
5.1.1 seems to have fixed this. The UI response is MUCH crisper now, more than you'd experience from simply clearing cache(s), re-indexing databases or factory resetting the device.
5.1.1 has removed ALL lag for me. No exaggeration. I use my GPS for several hours a day on average, play Injustice: GAU on and off for God knows how long. Zero lag, and no funky FC on Injustice. Can even use recent apps hop to date/time settings to employ that little "energy" hack. No hesitation. Instant. Even camera loads faster--not quite instantly, but MUCH faster than before for me. From launching Injustice to actually getting to play has moved up from 90-180 seconds (SRSLY) to 30-60 seconds!
