Unfortunately, what you claimed as your contribution and uploaded today was NOT your original work but merely a questionable copy of the hosts file generated by the free app AdAway.

AdFree not working

Hi, I'm using an SGS+ (i9001) and either Ad-Free nor the manual pushing of the hosts file is giving success in blocking adds. Host file is in /etc folder and >800kb.
Any ideas?
Thanks
If you go to android development section, then apps, have a search down for adsremover - dev had same problem as you so made a new app.

More number of entries doesn't mean better service..overtime many hosts become obsolete..what matters is how updated they are.
Anyways, updated the OP with more hosts.
Updated OP.
Added hosts to block:
Porn Sites
Casino Sites
Risky Sites
With this, I can download through adf ly .... that is good for me and thanks to you.
OP, why is it installed in /system ?? Shouldn't it be /system/etc?

i´am used only AdFree from the Google Play Store
host file in attachments
sorry cant posts links ... have not enough posts
Updated the hosts file to include 230000 more hosts!
LOL, OK so now I guess we got pretty much AdFree's host, but without AdFree ^^
Just use AdAway from the Play Store (req. root). Works great for me, didn't see a single ad on my device since installation.
P.S
If you, even occasionally press on ads, don't use things like that - click on ads and support the developers, just if you never, ever click on ads install it. The devs need your support.

Does the play store still function properly with this? Because I've tried adblocking before and was unable to download anything from the store or any apps like zedge.

in adaway users have to manually disable adds in apps and the amount of hosts blocked by adaway is less , using this mode will automatically blocks unwanted ad's from each apps and blocks almost every ad popups created by apps in device
Adaway working perfectly for me.. I tried this around one month ago.. But it's not working

I see your host list is quite exhaustive..... Awesome... As for suggestions I think a restore guide should be provided. In case one wants to go back to stock host.
Otherwise it's awesome... Thanked already...

Best Ad Blocker for Rooted/Rom'd users?

Hey guys,
Nexus 5X running Pure Nexus, rooted. Was wondering what was the best adblocker that resolves all issue?
I tried MinMinGuard and it's great, but it doesn't block Chrome ads, which are possibly the most annoying. I don't want to install a different browser.
I also installed AdAway and it royally messed up my browsing. It didn't block ads, and it made web browsing severely slow. Took me a while to rectify that...
So, best AdBlocker? I have Xposed, can flash a .zip, am rooted...
Thanks!!
Try Moab. available as a flashable zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916098
Have you tried AdGuard?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/adguard-ad-blocker-doesnt-require-root-t2958895
I like AdAway.

+1 for AdAway

Have you thought about just using a hosts file? I use MVPS Host's file on everything. Direct link to the hosts file. I just don't see a reason to have an app installed and running if I can load a hosts file every other month that seems to work pretty well for me.

That has to be the largest hosts file I've ever come across. The problem is it's not being actively maintained, it's just a huge list that's being thrown together, and not being checked. If you grab domains out of there at random, you'll find many are no longer active, and are available, which means they don't need to be in there. Which means they are just taking up space, memory, and slowing things down.

adaway uses the hosts file and updates it automatically whenever theres an update to the sources. it also allows to add your own sources to the preset list.
adlock, maybe
i use that tool and i think that it's very useful tool, better than adblocker as for me

adaway doesn't work on pie

Hey,
I activated the magisk module for systemless hosts, but since Android pie it's not working for me.
Any ideas?

Yes, adaway actually replaces the hosts file on my phone, so I think the problem is related to magisk.

What makes you think it's "replacing" the hosts file? The hosts file will appear to be overwritten, but in a systemless install, it's sym linked over the/etc/hosts file.

I looked in the /system/etc folder and the hosts file is a lot bigger than before, so I thought it's actually overwritten.
I just found out that ads are not blocked in only one WiFi.
The WiFi uses a proxy, is it possible that that's the reason why I still get ads?
On all other networks (WiFi/mobile data) ads are blocked.

Yes, based on your description, the proxy is probably the problem.
