[Q] Is my M9 the only one that wants a SIP to dial from the Contacts (People App) - Verizon HTC One (M9)

Am I missing a setting:
Every time that I try to dial a number from my contacts in the "People" app, the phone states, "No Internet Calling Account" with a further description, "There are no Internet calling accounts on this phone. Add one now?" The cancel or add buttons both work, but I just want to use the phone to dial!
Bad programming, or are you required to now have a SIP account setup on the phone to dial your contacts?

It is interesting to me that this setting would be defaulted to use internet calling... (wonder if it was from installing an app!)
I found in settings under the heading of Call, Use Internet Calling was set at For all calls when data network is available.
I changed this to "Only for Internet calls" and now everything works fine!
Hopefully this will be helpful for someone else... .

See if this helps:
These instructions enable or disable HD Voice & Video calling functions.
Caution If located in Alaska, it's not recommended to turn off HD Voice & Video calling for troubleshooting purposes as it causes the device to roam off the Verizon Wireless network.

Yeah but when you turn it on, it wants a SIP account for VoLTE. Yet Verizon hasn't provided the SIP account details needed for it.

Mine does not do that.

What about if you click on the phone icon and then on the top right click on the three dots and then settings. At the bottom is an option under "Internet Call Settings" there is another option that says Use Internet Calling. Mine is set to "Only for Internet Calls".

Simplest way is to remove your setting for wap??
Apart from that perhaps your could use an updated comm manager which has the 'data connection' button and turn it off?
I use PocketToolman 2, it sit's in the tray at the bottom, I tap and hit disconnect, then I tap the wifi icon also in the tray and tap turn-on. Great little application.

after i installed Pockettoolman i tap on the computer in lower right and a menu pops up then I click on disconnect from that menu. That will disconnect Wap. Then I tap on the wifi icon and select "turn on". That's it.
Good luck

Hi, I face the same problem and noticed that sometimes by itself starts the data connection and also when unlock the tytn from s2u2. It's very annoying to always check first whether it did not pop-up on top of the home screen at the signal strength.
I use Comm Manager where I have data connection settings, but it takes time switch it off that way.
So I would really need to remove the WAP settings. But I'm not a programer so I don't know where to look for the settings. Thnx.
Goto settings,connections,connections,advanced,select networks.
Change the 'internet'(top one) to 'my work network'.

Thanks for the advice, it solved one problem.
The other is connected with that I'm using WeatherPanel which requests updates. If the WiFi isn't open it always tries to download through GPRS, therefore I have to cancel it each time I wake-up the phone. Is there anyway to change the settings so wouldn't try to connect?

I'm almost sure you can tell the weather panel to update manually.

Cerberus to Dropbox

Found this little tutorial and works wonders. I like having direct access to images/video taken from my devices, even if I can't access my email. Also Dropbox has that new "instant" feature they just rolled out, so give this a try http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/viri8/cerberus_to_dropbox/
Visit www.sendtodropbox.com and connect your Dropbox account, then you will be given a unique email address [email protected], save the email address.

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Make sure you have these settings setup for the next step
Head to gmail and go to settings….forwarding and POP/IMAP…click on add forwarding address….use the email you were provided with earlier from www.sendtodropbox.com
In your Dropbox account you will have a plain text attachment with your conformation code to activate the forwarding of email.
Now head over to filters and create a new filter
The label setting is optional, but make sure you have the "forward it to" checked and select the email address you added earlier
Your filter should look like this
Finally head back to www.sendtodropbox.com and save these settings, you can arrange the "attributes" and "save to" as you please…hit save settings
Now head over to www.cerberusapp.com and test that it works, I just did send test message and upon dismiss it takes a pictures, then my Dropbox syncs the image.
Also Cerberus has a new beta https://www.cerberusapp.com/Cerberus_2.3beta.apk
adds these features:
Stealthy photo/video capture
There is a new "Transparent" option for the "Screen color" setting in the app configuration. When it's selected, if you send a "Take picture" or "Capture video" command from the web dashboard, checking the "Take picture/capture video immediately" option, you should not see anything on the device while Cerberus captures the photo/video.
SMS command to enable data roaming
The syntax is "cerberus yourpassword enableroaming", it should work only if Cerberus is integrated into the ROM.
Put call on speakerphone
When you open the test dashboard (link below), you'll see a new "Put on speakerphone" option in the "Call phone" command. Checking that option should make Cerberus enable the speakerphone and make the call. This could be useful to draw attention on the device if you lose it, other than the the alarm siren.

Though the SMS/Call function is best for smartphone, the stealth photo capture is cool

Phone app settings

I'm trying to set up Google Voice as my voicemail, but it only lists my carrier as the only option. I've searched around a bit and have seen people say to go to the settings in the Phone app and enter my GV in call forwarding.
Problem is I don't see that option on the VZW variant.
Can anyone tell me if I missing something?

Google Voice will be your voice mail if you simply set the call forwarding correctly to your Google voice number. You can set your call forwarding thru the My Verizon app, online on Verizon Wireless website, or thru your dialer app by dialing *72 plus your Google voice number then press the call button. If you use the last method, you'll hear a couple beeps then it will hang up... And that's it!
Once you do this, your GV number is your voice mail. Further, you can change your voicemail speed dial setting if you choose (when you long press the number 1 on your dialer) by going into the phone settings shown in my attached pics.
Lastly, the "my carrier" setting is really a non issue. I've been using GV for voicemail for years now. On verizon phones I'm pretty sure the ability to technically change that setting to something else has been gone for awhile. It really doesn't matter what that setting says.... It only matters what you have you line call forwarding set to. The label isn't important.

Question Is it possible to force a 5G-NSA connection?

I'm living in an area with a not so strong 5G-NSA coverage.
The 9 Pro won't connect to it most of the times, but if it connects the speeds are a lot higher than just with plain LTE.
Is there a way to force a 5G-NSA connection? (Like forcing LTE through *#*#4636#*#*). This would be amazing.
Have u tried the app, "Network Signal Guru"? It's a root app with base features plus paid features for a monthly subscription. It has forcing options available and might be worthwhile to check out.
System Setting --> Developer Options --> Networking --> 5G Network Mode
Choose --> NSA Mode

There sadly is no such option for "Networking" inside the Developer Options. Which OS do you right now have?

That one is unchecked by default for nearly all providers as this feature is just dumb.
Still there's no way to force NSA. And please show a screenshot from your developer settings, wold be cool to switch between SA and NSA. I just cannot find the option there.

With root "network signal guru" will allow you to force what you want. I had mentioned, but just wanted to add again in case anyone needed the info.
You can try run in dialer *#*#4636#*#*, go into Phone Information and choose NR only in Set Preferred Network Type.

Question Can't switch 5G off since updating to Android 13?

Has anyone else has this option greyed out?
I have the option to choose between 5G,4G,3G,or 2G (Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > Preferred Network Type).
Yep they've greyed it out even though my phone was bought simfree (unlocked)

Nope just a 'Choose Network' which is also greyed out
I'm at a loss, hopefully, someone else will chime in.
FWIW, mine is a US Model, puchcased from T-Mobile, SIM unlocked (using a T-Mobile SIM Card).

You could always just use the dialer code *#*#4636#*#*
Turns out certain networks have the option disabled, I had the same problem when using an ID Mobile sim but my Vodafone sim was fine. To fix the problem make sure your rooted as I don't know of any other way other than the one I'm going to show.
Use a file manage that can show you root files (I use MiXplorer)
Go to /data/user_de/0/com.android.phone/files
Look for a XML file that starts with "carrier", If you have more than one then you've used more than 1 SIM in the phone, Make sure you've opened the XML file for your SIM.
Look for the line "hide_preferred_network_type_bool" and change it from true to false.
Reboot.
Profit.
Hope it works for you.

I'm with Smarty (owned by Three) which also uses the Three network like idmobile so it looks like Three maybe the cul·prit
I'm on I'd mobile which uses threes network.
Type this *#*#4636#*#* in dialer, it enters a test mode.
Click on phone info which takes you to another screen.
Scroll down and you'll see a slightly gray box that if you click on that and scroll through you'll find LTE only.
Click it and that's it, 4g network only.
Restart phone, job done.
Pretty sure my battery also seems to last longer
