Bad reception - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

Does anyone have reception problems? I had a s5 and it works fine but now my s6 drops calls very often.
A lot of my calls gets dropped after 5 mins.
Is anyone else is having similar issues?
Please help.

I dont drop calls or miss texts but Ive noticed that compared to my S5, signal is terrible. I think all US version owners are having this issue, not just Sprint.

Since I got my s6 my phone has never had over one signal bar

I would'nt worry too much about that. My s5 was the same way.
Go to settings > about > status > and check signal strength there.

Mine sucks too.

I must say I've had the opposite experience. I'm in the Northern Virginia area and was worried that coming from Verizon, the reception would suck.
The bars show that I have less reception but so far I've been able to stream the same amount of content as on Verizon and as for cellular reception, even though the bars suggest different I can now receive texts in my office while on Verizon I could not.

I have also not seen more than 1 bar of reception since I got my phone a few days ago. Status says -102db but I don't know where that is in terms of signal strength. Speed tests have been anywhere from 2Mbps to 20Mbps.

I found the problem guys trust me it's the LTE go in mobile settings and just turn on CDMA bet it's fixed but the problem is no 4g than can anyone help??

Signal strength is horrid with the S6 and S6 Edge. My Note 3, my wife's S4, and my sons M7 all have great signal at my house. My S6 Edge and my wife's S6 can't make calls, send texts, or receive texts at the house. What are the odds that my wife and I both got bad handsets? This is just ridiculous.

My husband and I are having tons of issues with this too. S4s worked great, S6 barely has connectivity in places that the S4 worked great. It's frustrating, and I'm considering switching to a new phone while I can so I don't have to deal with this.

I'm having bad reception as well

I hope thats true. I had an LG Optimus G and it was full bars at my apartment. The S6 is ZERO. What makes me annoyed is that, okay I use wifi calling at home, but when I'm out and about in NY the phone desperately looks for signal and drains the battery like hell.
Anyone else in New York with S6 on Sprint having issues like this?

I'm close and yes they drop like crazy what you can do is go in settings-mobile-network and change that to CDMA until sprint gets there act together

I've been a sprint customer for 15 years and this is the most pathetic rollout of a phone that I have witnessed. My S6 can't even keep a call connected on LTE, but cdma is fine. Returning the S6 and will go back to the S5 until the problem is fixed. I urge everyone within the 14 days to return your phone, we might never get a fix. Sprint is PATHETIC!

I feel the same but I'm past my 14 days so if they don't fix it I will take it to the FCC REMEMBER THAT GUYS

Same problem here in KC. LTE signal strength sucks... i can get good speeds even with 1 bar. But. Dont get more than 3 bars. .. switch to CDMA... instant all bars.

Hi there,
I suppose the iPhone just has a better signal.
I tried 5 different radios and 3 ROMs, but I can't get ANY signal in my flat.
Signal is bad where I live, but with the iPhone I had at least 1 bar at several spots and 2-3 at my window...
with the Galaxy Nexus I can't get any signal anywhere.
If anyone has a solution tho, I would love to know ... I can't even write a SMS
Edit: To make it strange, I have an AWESOME signal with the SGN at university tho, even better than with the iPhone... same provider, same contract, same number, just different phone

Well I don't have any other phone but iPhone 4 and GNex to test it out ... I just really hope it's a software related issue and not a hardware one... calling is not the problem, I have a normal phone ... but it is really annoying to not be able to send and receive SMS :/
Right now I'm just flashing every new radio that comes out and hope that issue will be resolved ... and I certainly hope someone will pop into this thread with a solution

You could try to change the baseband - try xkk6, or ugkk7 (not sure about the exact names, but the names shouldn't be too off) go to settings > about phone, and post your baseband version here

Your with 3 what did you expect? If you have picked up bars with a s2 on 3 aswell and the iPhone (dual antenna) and remember s2 has UMA . Give 3 a call and get them to run a diagnostic. Remember 3 don't have 2g and 3g has less penetration through buildings then 2g does .maybe a change in networks if your not in contract (hint hint nudge nudge giff gaff )

I'm with giffgaff and I'm having a very similar experience to the OP. In my flat the phone has a very weak signal strength and drops the network every once in a while during the evening which then seems to cause sms being sent to me not to arrive until I either send one myself or toggle airplane mode on and of - very annoying. If I use my old HTC Wildfire then I don't suffer this problem.
When I am in my office the phone is fine - the walls in my office are much thicker than the ones in my home and it's a much more built up area.

Are you getting a replacement GN or switching to a different phone? I'd be interested to hear if you have an improved experience with a replacement nexus.

There is evidence of people having faulty hardware and getting a new GN resolved their issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1387263&page=13
There are a few threads on here that have had a similar outcome.
A have noticed that my signal in my house is a bit hit and miss, don't know if its vodafones signal going down.
I wouldn't get the 4s, waste of time. Grab one of the new htcs possibly the one x .
Saying everything mobile networks never say they can provide signal in houses, only outdoors

Hey, the GPS works just fine for me, it's just the signal...
As said, tried about 5 different radios / basebands...
I don't have any signal loss once I get signal (outside my village that is), GPS works like a charm (I even get a bit of GPS in my flat! Didn't have that with my iPhone)
I tried about everything, to no avail...
Well, I don't want to go the way thegost4u goes... I love the GNex, it's the perfect phone for me ... if there wouldn't be the signal issue :/

NEVERMIND!
......I just figured it out
The problem is actually my cellphone CASE (leather and plastic)
It appears, that my signal here is THAT BAD, that I get absolutely no signal when I have it in the case, without the case and the KRKK7, I get 2 bars on my couch, which is equal / better than the iPhone....(usually had 1 bar there)
@OP: Do you use any case? If so, try taking it off!
Instant fix for me...I can't believe I havn't thought about that earlier...*facepalms*
---------- Post added at 05:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:52 PM ----------
Next Edit:
With the UGLA4 I get 3(!!) signal bars... I NEVER had that much with any phone!
This is incredible, this case killed ANY signal for me....
The signal bars don't meant jack ****. Really, they don't mean anything. You can't compare them except to the exact same phone running the exact same OS with the exact same version.
For an accurate measurement of signal strength go to Settings -> About -> Status and see the signal strength there measured in dBm. The higher the number the better (negative and logarithmic, so -100 is worse than -70 - several orders of a magnitude worse). This way you can check the actual signal strength.
Done that to test it, actually my bars are pretty accurate
With case I'm stuck at -111 ... no signal at all
KRKK7 gave me about -103 on my table, UGLA4 gives me -101
I just did a phone call while sitting on my couch, I'm so excited xD
3 UK isn't best known for there service (there ranked last) case in point my GN on giffgaff (o2 signal) gets a higher download speed than the wifi in my halls (unlimited bandwidth ftw). But my flat mates iPhone 4 drops signal constantly in fact the is a dead spot in her room.
Nothing wrong with the GSM radio for me. LTE had more issues from what I've read
The GSM Galaxy Nexus seems to have pretty much the same reception as my Nexus One for me based on what I remember.
If you still have issues you might want to try the radios for different regions and the ones for Asian versions of the phone that has a different model number.

I have the same issue. I'm in the SF Bay Area and even though TMobile's site has where I live and work as dark green (excellent 4g) I am lucky to get even one bar. Half the time I get network errors. Anyone else with TMobile experience anything like this? Any chance it's something that'll get resolved before my 30 day return period ends?
do any of you have other tmobile phones to compare signals with? if so, do that and if there are major differences talk to a tmobile store about getting a replacement.
these might be isolated incidents, because the majority of people are getting fully functional units

im in SF bay area (mountain view)
my data speeds are *top notch*.
you are either in an area thats out of tmobiles footprint or have a defective unit.
best bet would be to wait till tmobile actually gets the GS4 on display in the store.
when they do, go to your nearest tmob, and do a speedtest.net comparison with the demo model, and yours. if they are similar, then your part of the bay is legacy; if there is a big difference; 3,4 5 etc megabit difference; your unit may be worth exchanging for a new unit.

I have excellent reception (bars) on my S4.
Way better than my Note II.

Still no signal inside my workplace. Will do more tests. It does seem the signal is more stable, but it's only been a couple days.
Also, 4G LTE flashed for a couple seconds at my house. I live in the D.C metro area. Nice.
I have the HTC One in the Phoenix market. LTE is difficult to find more than a few bars on. 4G HSPA+ has been very easy to get full bars on.
I'm somewhat convinced T-Mobile is still working on building out in even LTE and re-farmed markets.
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk HD
Its funny how T-Mobile improves their network and yet many years later I still don't have service in places where I had no service maybe 5-6 years ago. And on top of this I noticed even more dead spots. I think T-Mobile should be working on that along with building penatration.....I would much rather have 3G everywhere then LTE almost nowhere.
Lately it became very frustrating since my wife has no service at work, i have no service at work, and i recently moved to different location and still no service....and God forbid I loose my wife in the mall, I have zero chances of finding her because no T-Mobile service inside.
Just got my S4 today and did not realize theres LTE where I work (fremont) which I never saw on my note 2. Even went out to lunch and was still getting LTE the next street over. So just to test I'm now back on my note 2 and it is not picking up LTE at my work. That tells me the radio on the s4 is much better.

yea its something with the S4's phone/modem. I get bars and shows signal strength of 3 to 4 bars and i can make call but no internet in certain areas all around Los Angeles County/Orange County/Las Vegas/NYC. To test it i had my buddy go with me with his LG L9 and my buddy with his LG L9 phone would work fine on the calls and data/internet meanwhile my S4 would only get calls but no data as if it was a deadspot. i would have to go around like 1/4 or so before it would work again. its really strange not to mention annoying. I noticed this started happening to me after i upgraded from MDB to the MDL baseband and after i unlocked the phone using the "debug service menu". i wish i knew someone else with a stock TMO S4 to test my findings out more. I also cant wait for more tmo S4 modems. ive been thinking of ODINing back to stock MDB to test my theory, but i have just been lazy.

i think it was a TMO LTE tower upgrade issues. after doing the Settings > More networks > Mobile networks > Network mode > and switching between the WCDMA and GSM one or the other now will work. better to have some internet than no internet, weird how the S4 just wont switch over to the working GSM internet if WCDMA fails....i guess when they coded it they figured if u have bars it "should work in theory" but they were wrong ...personally i think this should be considered a "bug"
I thought I was the only one. I found that if i keep my diztronic tpu case on while in my pocket it destroys all signal for some reason. I take it off and its fine.

I further tested my theory and went without my case all day. It didnt appear to do anything different at all. I am on CM10.1, I think I might go back to stock for awhile to see if it changes the fluctuating signal issue.
Just curious on how everyones signal is and which baseband they are on?
I'm on M919UVUAMDL and I have seen up to 15% of no signal while my S3 had 0 signal loss in a regular day.

Reception Issues?

Anybody else having reception issues? My HTC Rezound would always have 1-2 bars at my house but I either get 1 bar or nothing on my One. My signal strength is -117 dBm.
Haven't noticed that here. Mine is still naked until the double flip case from HTC arrives

After more research I think the issue is a bad SIM card. I will go to the vzw store today and get a new one.

Did the new SIM fix the problem? I'm thinking of jumping from the S4 to the One, but it seems that the S4 has better radios, or from what I can tell from various forums and an in-store test.

Due to parental issues, I can't get to the VZW store till later today. I will let you know what the outcome is.
Before this issue started my reception was wonderful.
I'm kinda disappointed in the signal reception on this phone actually. I can from a Galaxy nexus which was notorious for having crappy reception. This phone is worse and the data speeds are slower.
My friend who has an HTC one Dev edition on att has great service and speed. I'm starting to think that Verizon's network isn't what they crack it up to be.
Mine seems to be going well. I haven't had any signal issues. I usually average about -70 dBm give or take on LTE.
Mine shows 3 bars at -101dBm with peaks to about -95, even with that I can average barely over 1meg down speeds. Don't even ask about up... I'd just return the phone but I'm leery since I'm one of the few that actually got my bootloader unlocked. Wonder if they are throttling me since I have unlimited data...

Don't do it. I had to get a replacement and I lost my unlock.
Reception has absolutely been worse on this phone for me.
I used to have the DNA, then I got the S4 and now I'm on the One.
With the DNA and S4, when I'd leave my house, I was immediately on 4G (3bars with the DNA, 1 bar with the S4). On the One, I get no 4G. Instead, I get 2-3 bars of 3G when leaving my house, and it doesn't switch over to 4G until I've driven a couple miles. Sometimes it never switches to 4G.
This is really disappointing because I was assuming it would have the same or even better radios than the DNA (and especially the S4, which also gave me worse reception when compared to the DNA)
I'd save overall, about 50%+ of the time, I'm on 3g now, where I would have always been on 4G with the DNA. :crying:

Very interesting. Did you just go into the store and say the reception is bad? I feel like they'll see that I have 4G at the store and say that it's perfectly fine. :\
I got mine after they blocked htcdev, so I have nothing to lose with replacing it.

My phone was screwed up when I flashed CM and I couldn't make calls. So I had a definitive and repeatable reason to get a new phone. It would just sit there and say "dialing".

:crying:

Honestly, that sounds more like a software issue (not recognizing when it should switch) rather than an actual reception issue.
I think it is actually the sim card, because when I got home my reception was finally the same as my wife's nexus and the speed was much better. They gave me a new sim card with this phone and I wish they would have just used the one that was already in my nexus.

The other guy that tried cyanogenmod is having the same issues as me. We are going to try different things to make his work again.

Good to know someone in my town has good reception on this phone.
I want to pick it up soon when beg red starts the new upgrade early plan in a day or two.
OK maybe I'm blind, how do you check dbms on this phone??

Yup, reception is great. Cool to meet someone from my home town!
I'm up near Falls Lake.

Really disappointed in the 3g/4g data signal

I've seen threads of people not happy with the data signal, but I didn't realize how bad it was until I was in a movie theater today. I couldn't get any data signal, not even basic google search. I even tried re-booting and still nothing. Picked up my wife's iPhone 4s and it was flying around internet sites.
I tested the same thing afterwards at the local food market and the exact same thing. My phone, no inside signal, her iPhone, perfect.
How can a phone become so popular with such crappy signal?
I've seen complaints too but I've got to say that my One has been on par with my iPhones, Galaxy S3, Blackberry's, etc... No signal issues here whatsoever
The other person on my plan has an iPhone 5 and we both usually have the same amount of signal anywhere we go

note 2 is popular as can be and mine drops calls everyday.
I would get it swapped out. Maybe you got a dud. HTC usually has better radios than everybody but Moto.

The only huge issue I have with it is its TERRIBLE hand-off, at least when my iPhone 5 or DNA lost 4g LTE it would grab it the moment it was available again. The One just holds onto that crappy 3G for dear life until I force it to go to LTE again.
Edit: Or wait 5-10 minutes.
I don't notice a difference from my Galaxy S4.

I've had the phone for two weeks and saw the 3G icon for the first time today. Signal has been fine...

That's weird! I haven't experienced that problem either. I've only noticed my One on 3G once but the hand off to LTE seemed pretty normal to me. I can't really comment on that issue though because my area is pretty much all LTE so I don't deal with the hand offs.
I wonder if it's a defect in your phone? Does the One allow us to update the PRL? I remember the HTC EVO had an update PRL option that I think could do something with service issues... something or other, I can't really remember.

No I don't think it is, GrayWolf has the same issue. I live in Minnesota and frequently travel to jobsites where there is concrete and such. Because Verizon hasn't upgraded every cell site with LTE yet just "Most of them" I frequently go into 3G. When the device goes into 3G for an extended period of time sometimes it takes a reboot to get back to LTE, most of the time it takes awhile to go back. And sometimes it goes right away, it's pretty annoying to be honest and may make me go to the Droid Maxx.
Lte onoff in the market helps me out. It was used for the thunderbolt to turn off the Lte radio when it was new. I toggle to Lte only, wait for it to get a signal them back to cdma+lte

Your sim card updates the PRL.

I'll get a change to test out my reception later. I do know the 4G on the One seems almost twice as fast as my Rezound though.
I find my signal is much better on the One than on my previous SIII or SGN.
Samsung has the worst radios. The Galaxy Nexus absolutely blew in that respect and, everyone came up with theories about false calibration of bars and whatnot, but the fact remained that it sucked with weak reception and poor hand-off between 3G and LTE.

I found my Samsung Nexus was horrible, my Galaxy S3 was good... but now my One is not good again. I just hung up with a vzw CSR and he told me they had some problems with SIM cards when the One was released and to go get a new one. He said the SIM card could absolutely fix the problem.

My experience has been similar to what you had today. It seems mostly indoors I experienced the problems. I'm wondering, were you able to unlock your phone on day one? I did, and I'm wondering if custom ROMs or other changes we've been able to make have affected our reception.

The Nexus was disappointing in several ways. I didn't go by the bars, but the dBm readout under settings. The Rezound was on par with my DInc, and soon I'll see how The One holds up to that.

My issues were related to a bad ril in CyanogenMod.
Only thing I notice now is that text messages take forever to send.

Is ril part of the ROM? I'm running hyperdrive and wonder if it could be related?

My reception in general was better on my DNA. I am yet to see 5 bars on my One, but I'm also yet to see no signal. Using apps like dropbox from the gallery is nearly impossible, takes too long to load even a couple pictures let alone swipe through them. Don't care, I love this phone. My DNA shipped out to the buyer today. No regrets.

Signal Indicator Problem

Has anyone else been having a problem with their newly purchased Sprint S6 where the signal shows as 1 bar LTE on the s6 while other phones activated on sprint show better LTE signal at the same location? Even though the s6 and other phone's downloads speeds are the same, it always shows as 1, max 2 bars lte on the S6, although when placing a call the LTE indicator shows more bars for some reason. My family has two new S6's on our plan, and their both experiencing this issue. That and a few calls that didn't go through are making my dad freak out and wanna go back to his GS4.

Bars don't matter, what matters is Settings-->About Device-->Status--->Signal Strength.
I know, but I think there may be an error with the LTE indicator in the notification bar, and my dad says its driving him crazy.

Mine is the same.
i have the same problem. i updated my prl and profile to see if it would help and it didn't. then contacted sprint and they did a manual provision refresh. that seemed to solve the problem for now.
Mine is at one damn bar of LTE everywhere... doesnt seem to affect my speed of data usage... its fast... but it does have to search for that signal allot...
OK I think I see what ya'll are saying now. Just curious, what's your software version, OCF?? Also, anyone got a good fix?
Same here, on OCF
I noticed that as soon as the call connects, the bars shoot up.
I also have this issue on OCF. Question, has anyone rooted OCF yet? If so, which method did you use?
I am in exactly the same boat. I just changed from the S4, and at work we tested our phones side by side an S4, S5, and S6 and mine was the worst. I had to turn my LTE totally off in order to do anything. Please tell me this is something that Samsung can fix because I love this phone and don't know what to do.
Ya know,, 2 days ago I did changed my mobile network settings from Automatic to lte/CDMA. ALSO DID run an PRL update a d such but my signal had great actually, and my battery actually has improved alot since the change. Very well could be an Radio issue. That's what I'm guessing it is
Is it me or does this phone have a issue with making calls example tons of dropped calls, or do I need to get another phone
Guys, Samsung knows about this.... Supposedly will be rolling out an OTA soon to fix it,
Lets hope so. I'm convinced all of this poor battery life is from the modem / signal.

I was messing around if you just select CDMA you will not drop calls until a fix if you guys want to do that
The signal display mainly looks bad because it's a Tri Band phone. On your s4 it would display the voice strength even though you were connected to LTE. On the tri band phones it only connects to LTE, and the switches to voice when making or receiving calls that's why you see the signal jump up when making a call. LTE does not travel/penetrate as well as voice and CDMA, but good news is that it does not have too to get good speeds.
Check out an app called Signal Check. It's cool to actually see your real signal and it just some bars. It will also tell you what band of LTE you are on.

Any info on a update I can't take all the dropped calls driving me crazy now
Even on OC9, we were experiencing the dropped calls. Finally, updated to OCF today, to see if it helped, but actually feel it may have gotten worse, seem to be experiencing more dropped calls.
