[Q] Cannot properly share Internet through tethering - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
It's been a week since I've been using my ZenFone, and everything is quite nice (except maybe the fact that I had to manually enter my APN settings)... however, I have not been able to share my internet to my laptop via Wi-Fi, nor Bluetooth nor USB.
I know it's something to do with the phone, because this entire week I've had to carry around my old Nokia Lumia JUST for this purpose. Other than this, I've been enjoying full 4G LTE speeds and all. APN settings are correct.
Is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

Working here without a problem thru WiFi. What version?
Sent from my Nexus 7

It's a Z00AD, with 2.13.40.13 firmware... rooted, if that makes any difference.

Really weird I have the 551 4gb ram 2.33ghz and works flawlessly. Really don't know what to tell u.

I have Asus Android USB drivers and there is a folder named tethering... I think you have to install those drivers...But as i know android doesn't need any drivers for tethering....Still i have provided you the zip file...You can try installing those drivers and then maybe try to tether your device...Please confirm the working of tethering/drivers if successful

Yeah, drivers aren't properly signed so I couldn't install them. I gotta enable that, so perhaps I'll try later... however, the problem is not that my laptop is not connecting to the Zenfone; it's the phone that is not letting any device connect to the Internet.
On Windows (Windows Phone, and iPhones and an LG that I've tested so far), it shows as a limited connection when using Wi-Fi or USB. I've attached a screenshot of these cases when trying to use my laptop.
Thanks again guys

Try this , it worked for me before for other Android phone.
Connect laptop via tethering , after connection disable data and enable again.

I haven't had any issues with the 551 1.8/4GB on the pre-root image.

I gave that a try, and didn't work. I think the phone is refusing to route anything to the Internet. I tried to make a simple DNS query and it refuses to respond; trying to use Google's DNS didn't work either. This is astonishingly weird.
EDIT: I've also just updated to 2.15 and problem persists, by the way.

Zenfone 2 could not tether with internet on Fido
I have the same problem with my Zenfone 2 4gb ram 64gb not getting internet access after laptop or other phone connected to its hot spot. My carrier Fido said there is no settings to get tethering to work, it should work automatically as long as data was working with the APN.
Cannot fine any help on resolving this issue, very frustrating since everything seems to work fine.

Problem Solved. Update your Zenfone to v2.18.40.12 for ZE551ML while v2.18.40.7 for ZE550ML.
This OTA update came out just recently in June and now tethering works on my phone plus a lot of upgraded features too.

Verizon tethering?

Are there any issues tethering with this phone on Verizon? I just ordered one and it will be here tomorrow.
I avoided buying the Mobile Tethering plan. Hidden in the /Windows folder is the Internet Sharing app. I use that. Make a shortcut. Although, there is no Bluetooth tethering that I know of, so you will need the USB cable and Activesync installed. But works like a charm
This guy claims to have done it via Bluetooth. I haven't got mine yet, so I can't try it...

I just got mine and when I try and run the IntShrUI.exe, i get a pop up that says "Company Policy prohibits use of Internet Sharing. IntShrUI.exe is blocked.". Anybody else seen this? Is there another say to get around this?

A few posts down you need to download:
ICSInstall.CAB (174.11 KB - downloaded 2024 times.)
* WMWifiRouter.CAB (115.6 KB - downloaded 1568 times.)
once you install both of those, just open up WMWifiRouter and it will make a wireless access point via wifi. Just connected to the wifi point with your computer and you are good to go...

Sprint LG G2 Tether/usb Not WIFI

Hi all just got a Sprint LG G2 and was bummed. Had Clockworkmod tether on my old HTC Design. It was not listed at play store. When to Clocks site and saw the LG LS980 listed. Used in 02/2014....thought hmmm, whats the worst that could happen? Delete it if it doesn't work ? Glad to say it worked fine and it does have Kitkat. Understand this is not a WIFI tether(as I'm sure you all know) but they will once again get my money. Hope this helps someone out
Not sure how CW works, but for another option Easy Tether works for USB and also bluetooth for tablet. My understanding is neither need root.

Easy tether has worked for me and my friends on many different phones and many not rooted. Just curious, did you follow the setup guide and also install the pc or tablet app to go along with it? Have to make sure the pc or tablet app is running along with the phone app.

Same thing happened to me! I'm running a rooted stock ROM though, so I have no idea.
However, I did notice something odd.
If you use Wifi Tether Router, you can actually access anything Google related just fine. However, if you try to access anything else, it doesn't work. (At least for me)
You guys watching to much porn LOL. Use the mod for hotspot.

Nope can't do that because I'm still on the stock recovery, and I'd like to stay that way.
Anyway I've figured out the issue is that I can only access anything through HTTPS. If I don't use HTTPS, then the site won't work. This is something T-mobile is blocking. Is there any way around this?

I don't know if this is already been asked but anyway, I just got my Oneplus 3 recently and I'm loving every minute of my use but there is one problem which is bugging me the whole day.... I am not able to share my mobile carriers internet via USB Tethering or Portable Hotspot to another android device or PC.
WiFi is connected but not internet access. Is this something to do with Android 6.0 Marshmallow update or how do I enable Internet access to other devices? please guide me..... Thanks!
Android version - 6.0.1
OxygenOS version - 3.2.7
PC - Windows Pro 64-bit operating system.

I actually had the same issue. I can tether and have a working connection for maybe 30 seconds and then there's no longer internet access. It has worked in the past (at least in August) before the last two updates. Currently on T-Mobile.

I am using oneplus 3 on T-mobile and get the same problem. after I configured my hotspot wifi on OP3, the other device can connect to it. but it would not get the internet access. I was on the bleeding edge 3.2.7 version of Oxygen OS. after talked to the tek support of oneplus, their level 2
guy resinstalled 3.2.1 oxygen OS on my device. after that, hotspot wifi works pretty well. so that was a software issue. I am not sure the patch between 3.2.1 to 3.2.7 has a bug on hotspot or the OTA update cause the issue. but anyway, it is working now.
Can anyone else confirm this is Oxygen OS 3.2.7 bug please??? i need to make sure before I downgrade back to 3.2.1.

It won't even let me click the tethering button. I'm pissed. I depend on that a lot. Has anyone found a fix. I restored my efs thinking it would help but no luck. I am going to try to fastboot flash the modem tonight it's got to be the issue

Before you mess around with your efs partition i suggest just trying a custom rom . freedom if you like stock or any of the others if u not into stock...restoring efs is an almost impossible task
Reading this, it occurred to me I had not really tried tethering since I moved from my Nexus 5X to the OP3 a couple months ago. Just set up WiFi tethering and it seems to work perfectly.
- Using WPA2 PSK security
- Tethered device is a MacBook Air
- Carrier is T-Mobile US
- Stock ROM, unrooted, latest Oxygen OS 3.2.8
I use tethering on mine. 3.5.5 beta 7. No issues sharing with multiple devices.
I've been doing this a long time buddy and this is why it's happening to me cause when I'm on either AICP or RR 7.1 nougat it will not allow me to click the tethering button. Also I have my efs backed up to my computer and my phone. I realize there's a lot of newbs on here but I'm far from one of them. Im back on oxygen now on which I've never had any problems with any of the stock functions, ever
Hi! Has anyone managed to get this to work?
I'm having this situation for as long as I have my op3.. Can connect but no internet access.. If other phones serve as hotspot I can connect and have internet with no problems.
Any suggestions?
Stock phone, fully updated.

Hotspot not working after Pie upgrade.

On my device hotspot was working badly on Oreo, but now on Pie after the initial upgrade, and the second one in December there is no internet after connecting to xperia hotspot.
Tried from other phones and 3 laptops, and its the same, it connects but theres no internet.
Does it work on your devices guys, ot is it just me?
My hotspot works fine.

If it worked for 5 minute the problem is right that. Try to change carrier or try with a friend's sim

It was working fine before the Pie upgrade.
Moreover, when the issue happens, I still have internet on my phone, but not on my PC.
