[Q] Google App stopped working on both my phones, one is rooted, other is factory - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello,
The google search app has stopped working on both of my phones. One is a factory S3, never modified, the other has MOAR.
If I long press the menu button, the google search pops up, but searching for anything gives network errors and the cards do not load (same if I click into the google search widget). Both phones have internet access and I can load a browser and run the searches without a problem.
I've not tried fixing the factory phone but on MOAR I've attempted the following with no success:
1) Clear dalvik
2) Clear App data
3) Uninstall updates from Google App (blue icon)
4) Re-install updates
After all that, it still says, "Network error" and fails to load anything.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Fixed it. For anyone else that has this issue:
Uninstall updates and clear data from Google App, Google Play Store, and Google Play Services. Update through play, and back in action.

Application Installation error -- "Unknown reason -110"

Hi All,
First time poster so please be gentle -- I did search for this issue on google and within the forums first.
This is the first smartphone I've ever purchased.
My Inc2 is non rooted and non modded.
It has been working w/o issue since I bought it about 6 weeks ago until this weekend when it would no longer install updates or new apps from either the Google Android or Amazon Android markets.
Note that in both markets the app or update downloads w/o issue -- the problem happens when it attempts into install what was downloaded.
The status bar at the top reads "Installation of app X unsuccessful"
Downloads/Updates from the Google Android market result in an error message within the notification bar. Clicking on it opens a dialog box with Installation error "Unknown reason -110"
When downloading/updating from the Amazon Android market the error is less specific, I click Install, the standard screen opens confirming I want to install the app explaining what it will need access to. I click the Install button at the bottom of the page which results in "Application not installed".
Note that this happens with all app downloads or updates.
The steps I have taken so far:
1) restarting the phone
2) clearing cache/data from Applications/Android Market application (and restarting again)
3) clicking on button to remove all updates to Android Market application (and restarting again) --
Interestingly the version listed under the Market app is 2.3.4 even though it has reverted to an earlier version -- it looks very different.
On a side note: since this did not fix the problem, how do I get the newest Market version again?
4) unmounted SD card (and restarting again) -- since this did not fix the issue, I remounted the SD card
5) Used file manager to navigate to directory Download and look for files named: XX.apk, where XX is 1 to 20. -- but did not find any such files.
6) Per HTC support:
First, open the phone dialer and enter in *#*#checkin#*#* [*#*#2432546#*#*]. The number will disappear and your should see a notification of either Checkin Succeeded or Checkin Failed. If it succeeded, then new updates should be detected for your device and the application.
I received "checkin succeeded" notification
[Can someone explain to me what entering the combination above does --
what is the phone checking in with?]
Next, try moving any applications you have on the SD card to your phone's internal memory. This can be done by going to: Home> Menu> Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> On SD. Tap each program and then tap Move to Phone. Once this is done, check for updates again.
I received "Failed to move application" notification for each application on my
SD card that I attempted to move to Internal Memory
Finally, I recommend clearing the data from the Google Services Framework applications. In the Manage Applications Screen, go to: All> Google Services Framework and then tap Clear data. Check for updates once again.
Followed the direction above but have not received any updates by navigating
to Settings/Software update and clicking Check new.
For whatever it is worth clicking Status shows that my last update has name
HTC_ADR6350_LargeUpdate_3.02.605.1 with Status of Update Successful,
code of 200, date of 09/19/11 and time of 07:55PM.
7) A (perhaps) related development is that as of tonight, my Inc2 is no longer listed as one of my devices in the Google Android Market when I navigate the web page on my computer. Anyone know how to get this resolved?
Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help.

An additional development is that as of about 10:00pm tonight, my Incredible 2 no longer shows as one of my devices when I navigate to the Google Android Market from my pc -- could this be related?

Try clearing data in apps settings and reboot. How many apps are installed? When was the last time you deleted all your messaging threads and call logs?

Joshua,
Can you advise on the click path to accomplish the "clearing data in apps settings" process.
When I click Settings/Applications/Manage Applications, I just see my apps listed.
I do not use sms or text messages but I have never deleted all my messaging threads and call logs (again, I've had the phone about 6 weeks) -- I will do a quick search on the forum to learn how to take those steps.
Thanks for your help.

You're in the right place, just click on market and choose clear data. Wiping messaging and call logs, just go into the app and hit menu.

When I navigate to the Market App the "Clear data" button is grayed out.
Accessing the Phone app allows me to Clear data and I did -- can you help me with "hit menu" reference you made?
Also, I'm not sure what is normal but when I go into the Market Updater app, all the buttons are grayed out.
Thanks again.

Not the market updater app, the market app. They are different apps. It should be under the ALL APPS tab in applications settings.
"Hit menu" refers to the physical (or capacitive) menu button on the phone itself.
So you used the phone app to clear the call logs? Go to call logs and press the menu button on the phone.
Understood on the market updater app being separate from the market app -- just wanted to post an observation about the market updater as I wondered if maybe that wasn't the way it was supposed to look (all buttons grayed out).
I went to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications, selected the All tab, scrolled to the Phone app and clicked the Clear data button.
Upon doing so I received a Change Mode message that a SIM card was detected and the device was switching to global mode.
Do I want to stay in global mode if I only need CDMA?
Then navigated to Settings/Call -- but I was unable to find mention of call logs and pressing the physical menu button did not bring up anything.
Sorry if I'm being dense.
Not sure if this is related to any of the steps you have recommended but my Incredible 2 is now listed again in the Google Android market when I browse to it via my computer. I'll take any good news.
Thanks

Nope, go into your call log and press menu. Open the phone app as if you're going to make a call, go to your call history, hit menu and delete all.
When you were in the all tab, that's where you clear data for market.

Thanks for the additional explanation -- totally makes sense now -- Call history is now empty.
Have done the same for messages.
Now rebooting the phone...
Tested downloading an app and unfortunately got the same -110 error.
Do you have any ideas regarding these questions I posted above?
Interestingly the version listed under the Market app is 2.3.4 even though it has reverted to an earlier version -- it looks very different.
On a side note: since this did not fix the problem, how do I get the newest Market version again?

If I will only be using my phone in the United States -- is it better to leave from phone in World or CDMA mode?
Thanks again.
cdma mode only
Can anyone help with these three still unresolved issues?
1)

3) clicking on button to remove all updates to Android Market application (and restarting again) --
Note that additional steps have been tried based on suggestions in this thread but nothing has worked so far.

Android customer support indicated that they had received multiple reports of this issue but did not have a fix yet.
Worked with HTC support and ended up having to do a factory reset which fixed the problem.
Thanks to everyone for your help.

Can't turn off Google Now [SOLVED]

As the title said for some reason I cannot turn off Google now today. Never had this problem in the past.
It just gives this toast message (see attachment as well):
"Failed to turn off cards due to a network error. Please check your network connection and try again."
Has anyone come across this before?
EDIT:
Clearing data for "Google Framework Services" and "Google Search" reset "Google Now".
Have you rebooted your phone and tried again?

*nods* of course.
Unfortunately not too many things I can explore with this unit. It's a stock SCH-i515 on 4.1.1.
im also having exact problem with exact phone..
hope someone can help too
Same problem, saw Maps app was chewing up battery after turning it on and now it won't go off
Using a CM10.1 build on Infuse... Grrrrr
I did a catlog dump, I believe this is the relevant error:
W/Velvet.VelvetNetworkClient( 1814): Network error: com.google.android.searchcommon.util.HttpHelper$HttpException: 500 Internal Server Error
Can you turn it off when connected to wifi?
Can you turn it off after disabling sync?
I'm just trying to think what I would do in that situation, sorry if I am no help.
Just some suggestions:
If possible clear Google service framework and then try freezing Google search.
Also deleting your google account and then setting it back up could be tried

Found a solution based on your prodding.
Load up TI Backup Manager:
-Backup/Restore Tab
-Tap Google Services Framework - Wipe Data - Yes [This step might be optional, doing just this step didn't fix it, but the next step did, so next step may be only necessary one.
-Tap Google Search - Wipe Data - Yes
-Reboot [Recommended]
Now you should be back at square one like you never enabled Google Now
Don't forget to thank the noob!

I think you may be right in that clearing data for Google Search is the only step necessary.
I had cleared data for Google Services Framework before and it didn't do anything, but after doing that and clearing data for Google Search, Google Now was indeed off.
Since this is a stock unit I didn't clear data through TI Backup Manager, but just from the plain old apps list.
I hope Google fixes whatever causes this error.
Thanks!
Nice.:good: OP you might want to edit your thread and put a [resolved] in there so other people having this problem can spot the fix easier.

[Q] Google Play Store Not Downloading; Nothing Working

I'm running Cyanogenmod 11 on my Samsung Note 8.0 (n5110), and Google Play will not download anything. It just sits in the oscillating "Downloading" bar and never downloads. I can download anything else just fine, but not from Google Play. Here's what I've tried:
- Clear cache/force stop Google Play
- Clear cache/force stop Google Play and Google Play Services
- Clear cache/force stop Google Play, Google Play Services, and Google Services Framework
- Clear cache/force stop the above and Downloadmanager/Downloads
- Clearcache/force stop the above and the package installers/managers
- All of the above, but also remove Google Account
- All of the above, but also restart
- Clear cache through ClockworkMod Recovery
- Reinstall GAPPS
- Factory reset
- Factory reset and clear cache through ClockworkMod Recovery
- Restore to a backup from March
- Clear dalvik cache
- Clear dalvik cache and cache
- Install latest version of Google Play Store from gapps early
With cache-clearing and obsessive attempts at the top 5 peppered throughout. I finally got the idea to check the logs and learned about "logcat". I thought the efficient cause to be somehow related to this line:
W/DownloadManager( 2826): Aborting request for download 7: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: failed to connect to r1---sn-a8au-p5ie.c.android.clients.google.com/4.59.126.144 (port 80) after 20000ms
But you can't search a thing like that online, because you just get a bunch of Java threads. After this I tried restarting my router and looking in /etc/hosts, but /etc/hosts only has localhost in it, and I don't even know what's supposed to be there in the first place.
And if you guys got nothin', I'm switching to paper and probably giving up android altogether. I feel like this thing is worse than bricked. Bricking is either fixable or unfixable. This is fixable to everyone but me.
Any ideas, anyone?
Did you try to use a Stock based ROM?

Google Play Store for 4.6.3 - newest version of all 4 apks.

Tested and working on unlocked 4.6.3 firmware.
Recommended installation order below:
1) Google Account Manager 4.4.2 (940549)
2) Google Services Framework 4.4.2 (940549)
3) Google Play Services 7.8.99 (2134222-036) - Updated
4) Google Play Store 5.8.8 - Updated
This has been working without a single crash for over a month!
ES File Explorer is helpful, should be able to install without a PC.

Try going to settings, force close Play Store, clear data and cache and try again.
Well, no white screen here, but an endless login attemt. Installed everything in the correct order (after fresh factory reset), restart phone. After restart hit play store, entered the mail/pw. It just keeps loading endlessly, it´s been 5 Minutes now. Phone is not freezed, notifications menu can be accessed. Any help/ideas please?
Edit: Wifi was off... now only the dreaded white screen. With a loading circle in the middle. Tryed force closing and deleting the data, still white screen.
Edit2: it´s just getting weirder and weirder. After clearing the app data and cache in every google app, after a restart the play store starts (logged in with my account, too...), but it says there is no data connection (Wifi is this time on^^).
Edit 3: after another restart white screen only.
I'm only getting white screen, this doesn't work but thanks for sharing
I don't think the white screen is Fire specific, others are getting it too.
I think it happens when the message about receiving updates from google
on first run doesn't make it to the foreground, and you can't proceed.
Try clearing cache for both Play Store and Google Services, and run
Google Services first, then start the Play Store.

Fixed on it's own
My Fire Phone had the Play Services error that everyone else had, but now it's fine. I did nothing to fix the problem. I'm posting this in several places.
Edit: USA, unlocked Fire Phone from Amazon.
Thanks OP for posting the files.
I was able to install and run play store.
However, i am noticing google play services consuming majority of the battery. Before i installed these files, i was having very good battery performance.
When i look at the battery usage details for Google Play services, "keep awake" is same as total time on battery. For some reason it's always awake and consuming battery.
Did anyone else had or notices this issue?

No issues with battery here, in fact with the newest google services & play store and 4.6.1 the battery seems just as good if not better than before.
Maybe it's a particular google app that you have installed ?
