Need help with XDA2 on WM2005

Hi People
I have messed up and would appreciate some help
I have a XDA2. The other day I upgraded to Windows Mobile 2005. This worked a treat. At work we have wireless and I have a wifi card for the XDA. I installed VTGO ip phone so I could use my XDA as a voip phone while in work. However since then I cannot get the phone function on the XDA to work. I have removed all programs that was on the XDA. I can no longer get active sync to work. It connects and I can browse the files but synchronisation does not take place. On the start bar on the XDA is a left arrow and right arrow (sync icon I think) below it. It has been there since I was playing around with the wifi card.
The XDA works fine except for the phone and contacts, none of these work. The rest is fine, I can even receive sms messages. Oh Active sync dont work properly as well.
Anyway what I have tried to do is: run the installation again using HimaUpgrade. I have hard resetted the phone and ran the install program. I see the software and the phone saying 'erasing current image' then it says 'installing new image 10%..20%...' or words to that affect. When I switch the XDA back on, it just has the old image on so it looks like it's not even wiped the image off. I am thinking it must not be working because Active sync is not working but I think I should not need active sync just to install the OS on the phone.
Anyway I am stuck at the moment. I don't know if you have any suggestions but I am going to try and take an image of my friends XDA2i and copy it onto mine using XDA Tools/ OS image tool[/img]

Hard reset done after upgraded to 2.2, found two surprises!

Just done a hard reset after I had upgraded to 2.2 a few weeks back and discovered that nothing is backed up anymore!! Now whilst this has been spoken about on a few threads already, I did find a few things new that was a nice bonus.
1) News sync appears in the accounts & sync options. Now I can truly disable the news app thats pre installed in the rom.
2) Finally the location based sense weather works!!! I could never get my local area to display any weather, this has now been fixed but only after hard resetting! It never worked on 2.1 or 2.2 before.
Will let you know if I find anything else. Does make you wonder what else had been fixed but only after a HR.
Does compass work correctly?
News sync appears, but does it sync? When I tap on it nothing happens, no green icon appears on Accounts & Sync
Yes it does sync if you select it. I could never add news sync before, it was always as option but now it appears in the selected list, like googlemail and stocks. To be honest I don't use it and was never able to turn it off, it would always appear running in the services list but now I can turn it off and it's not running in the services list.

Didn't know therenwas a problem with the compass, but therm again I never used it. What was wrong with it and I will check.
Hey,
The current location weather also never worked on my desire, and after upgrading to froyo a couple of weeks ago I looked to see if it had been fixed but it still didn't work.
However, after reading this thread, I decided to check again and now it works for some reason! I haven't done a hard reset so I dont know why it has started to work but I am happy that it has!

Maybe a dumb question but what do you guys mean with hard reset? Is that simply just to make a reset to back to the factory settings? Anything special?

ok, so it looks like they changed something their end and has nothing to do with resetting (re weather location). Yes hard reset = Restore to factory (im an old old win mo user so still call it hard reset.

Thanks for reporting, wouldn't be surprised if HTC didn't import this for us....
Just did it laboriously in order to get the news sync to work. Real pain to have to re-install all the apps, put them on the homescreens, sign in to accounts again, etc. But done and it does work.
Hi guys..
I just buy a Desire 2 weeks ago and upgraded from official 2.1 to official 2.2. My question is: If I make a hard reset ( factory reset ) my Desire will go back to 2.1 or will remain to 2.2?? Maybe is a silly question, but I am a very new guy on Android forum. Thank you in advance.
Will stay with 2.2.

[Q] Can't install certain apps

I've been trying - in vain - to get certain apps running on my Desire HD. Some general googling has revealed that other people managed it, but I found no answer as to why.
Installed the free versions of Juice Defender and Launcher Pro, but the moment I decide to upgrade to the paid versions - no love.
The Market on my phone says it cannot be found. Logging in on my PC and trying to upgrade from there launches the device compatibility check and then shows my DHD, grayed out. Hovering over the question mark says that it cannot be installed on my device.
Any tips / suggestions?
Not all apps are available in every country and this can be, as you have seen, down to free vs paid.
See if you can manually download the apk from the app creators website (or is that what you have tried to do?).
You need root if you don't have already.
Clear market cache, and possibly dalvik cache as well.
Download the app "market enabler", give superuser permission when requested, save current settings, long tap on a alternative carrier in settings list, and fake. This will temp change your APN, so you need to connect WiFi to download.

Problem sorted - turned out to be impatience - the South African app store only went online recently.
Active appstore = apps installed successfully. Yay.
My bad for not checking that first.

HELP! Cracked Screen - How to retrieve photos onto PC?

Hi there, my sister has a one x (I use galaxy s3 btw
she dropped the phone and the screen now looks like a church window
is there a way that I can recover the photos of my nephew on it before we send it away to the insurance providers?
I have tried the HTC sync manager but I believe it needs confirmation keyed into the phone as it does not pick up a device.
all drivers have installed correctly and im running XP SP3 if that helps.
The phone is UK and on vodafone.
Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks in adavance

She should have the photos backed up on her dropbox account. If not, try and see if you can connect as mass storage.

There are two pieces of software that you can potentially use. One is called QtADB and the other My Phone Explorer. Both of these pieces of software have a functionality that allows you to control your phone from the computer by displaying on their UI your phone's screen. You can then control you phone using your mouse. This way activate Mass Storage mode, all do whatever you wish.

thanks a lot for that mate, worked a treat.
you da man

Password protected CWM and TWRP

If your device gets stolen it sure would be nice to have recovery password protected to stop a quick factory reset or rom flash.
Has anyone seen this done?
This could help preserve security software for as long as possible to assist in locating the phone
ive been looking for this hopefully someone has a answer
Having the Power Off password protected could also buy some time if the back cover was glued on
Guys, if you get the paid version of where's my droid there's an option to the app to run as administrator, you have access to more options on the paid app. One of them is run in stealth mode, it becomes a system app, it survives flashing back to stock with Odin. You can use a pin code to be able to use the app, delete the app or make any changes in the settings on the app. There's an option to have the app send you an e mail if your SIM card is ever removed or changed, will sound an alarm even if it's on silent from any pc or cellphone, remotely wipe and lock the device. Great app for security against anyone having access to your personal information and locating it if lost or stolen, imo.

I'm using cerberus but it didnt survive a dirty flash from jediX7.2 -----jediX8. This was with cerberus_disguised-ICS.zip rooted running in admin mode.
But none of this software will work if they pop the sim or batt out. Hence the glued on cover. But the power off/reboot would need to be password protected.
I can buy a new back cover for $10 after I break it to take it off. A lot more for a new phone.
Reason I bring this up, just yesterday my bud sat on a couch in a mall. Phone fell out there. Realized it 2min later and called his number but it was off already

How pray tell does it survive flash to stock via Odin? If it stores itself on /system and /system is erased and reflashed, how does it get back?
