GUIDE: HOW TO: Unknown Sources App Installation In Secondary Users Lollipop - Sony Cross-Device Development Themes and Apps

Hi..
Lollipop is Everywhere. It comes with many new features like new material design, new ui and adding Users etc. But in Lollipop, You can't install apps from Unknown Sources in any of your Secondary Users. Almost all of us suffering from Google's new security system which prevents apps installation in other user accounts than Primary. Think you paid for many apps, yet you can't install those apps in your other user accounts. If you are on Custom Rom, you can install apps in all users as most of custom roms allow it. But if you don't like Custom Roms and want to stay on Stock Lollipop, this Guide is for you.
I show you how to install any apps in your all user accounts in Stock roms lollipop..
ALL YOU NEED.:-
1. A Rooted device SuperSu installed.
2. Any Stock Rom running Lollipop.
3. ES File Explorer.
PROCEDURE:
1. Login to your "Primary Account"(Owner).
2. Open ES File Explorer and "Enable Root Explorer" in Tools.
3. Go to: "device/data/data" folder.
4. Cut folder named "com.estrongs.android.pop-1" and paste it to "device/system/priv-app/here" and fix permissions to "drwxr-xr-x" (It is important to make "ES File Explorer" a system app. Now it will show in all user accounts app drawer.)
4.1 Restart Device.
5. Open SuperSu app from app drawer in Primary Account.
6. Enable Multi User in SuperSu Settings..
7. Now login to your Secondary account.
8. Open ES File Explorer and "Enable Root Explorer" in Tools.
9. Tap on "Root Explorer" in Tools.
10. Select "One Key Install"
11. This will take you to apk browser in ES File Explorer.
12. Select one or multiple third party apps present on your SD card or internal.
13. After selecting apps tap on "more" option in bottom right then tap on "install"

Are you using a custom ROM and did you check application manager for storage permissions? Is the app asking for root permission access? Stock permissions, lack of superuser or lack of user permissions may limit ability to manage files.
I've seen other posts complaining about ES File Manger not working in MM, even custom ROMs that Root Explorer had demonstrated ability to work without issue. If the above doesn't work to allow the procedure you referenced to work, then try it with Root Explorer:

Change built-in file manager?

I would like to change default file manager but it seems that some links to it are hardcoded in LOS so for example if i uninstall it and replace it with fx file manager some
apps can't access it because they are calling to that default one which is not there anymore.
Any tips on how can i replace it, or where can i change those links to default app?
The default file manager that you were using has the package name "com.android.documentsui", and you generally see it when you have to choose a file for an app. Only here has it been turned into a full-fledged file manager. That was a system app that you weren't supposed to remove, so your only option is to install another file manager app alongside the default one.
Hi i'm with the same problem, i need a default file manger that can accese root so other app can get accese to root folder. Is there a way to resolve?
Here is how to replace the stock file explore with the root accessable one.
I'm gonna priovide the best filemanager fully featured, called mixplore, which i highly recommend. this file manager can access root directory.
watch Mixplore review from HERE
NB: make sure you have a root access
1. download Mixplore
2. install it on your device then open it
3. on the left then click on "root" then grant root permission when prompted
4. go into system/apps/documentUi OR system/apps/cmfilemanager
OR system/apps/files. If your on other roms apart from cynogenmod, lineageOs or RR-Os.. go into system/apps/filemanger
in case not found in app forlder try priv-app, i.e system/apps/..
NB: not "document" its "documentUi"
5. open the that last folder on the directory i.e file manager, swipe right and go into downloads copy the Mixplore.apk, then swipe left back into root/system/app/___ and paste the mixplore and delete the stock filemager from that folder
6. restart the phone.. now you have replaced the stock file explore from your android.

This method creates problem when trying to access sd card or otg, mixplorer ,though fully featured, will also need permission from documentsui to access externals,it will show error "doesn't exist x
Best way is disable documents ui from showing icon in launcher

Security Issue - Install Unknown App

Have a question regarding my OnePlus 7t on Android 10. I've checked the settings in "Apps & notifications" in "Special app access" and my Dolphin browser app permissions for "Install unknown app". The settings under both sections are set to OFF or Disabled.
My question is why when I download an apk file app from my Dolphin browser and looked for the downloaded file in my Downloads using File Manager, then clicked on app to install, the app installed without prompting me to check for "install unknown app". The file installation only asked for storage permissions and then installed.
How do I keep this from happening? I don't want files installing without me specifically allowing "install unknown app" in settings.
From your description I would think it was actually the file namanger that installed the file, so you need to check its settings ...

Agree. That setting relates to the app you are launching the install from. Not the app you downloaded the apk from. I think you'll find if you download and launch direct from dolphin, with your current setting, the install will be blocked.

Yes, you're correct. If trying to install app from Dolphin browser when downloaded, the system will block the install and notify you to Disable Install Unknown App settings.
In my case, the file is downloaded and saved in Download folder on phones memory. When I click on file directly it will prompt me for Storage Permissions to install. I checked both Dolphin browser and Special permissions, and both are disabled for installing from Unknown App.
There is no permissions settings for Storage to disable install from Unknown app.
How can I block install of any app from Downloads folder.

can't use this folder to protect your privacy

Hi all! I encounter this message everytime I'm allowing any app i install to access storage, internal or external. System offers me to create a separate folder for that app and the button "use this folder" on the bottow is greyed out. Happens only on g980f. g950f with a9 doesn't have this problem. Online search doesn't help.

Seems like a new privacy option that can't be disabled. As a workaround, I'm using Termux and selecting the Termux:storage/shared directory (Swipe from the left to get the Termux files) from the explorer. If you've granted Termux access to your files, it should have all your files in there too, and it doesn't block that one.
If your device is rooted with magisk then you shoud use "NoStorageRestrict" module
