P.S. Moto won't just replace the band, they want the whole watch back. EDIT: CONTACT Moto Wendy on Reddit for replacements! http://www.reddit.com/user/Moto_Wendy_W (Thanks erikiksaz!)
Also, if you ignore it long enough, the metal band will then crack the whole watch back like the leather bands have been.
More help!: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/7dcd77976b

Just happened to mine this weeken . A little posses however I have extended warranty with best buy so hoping they will replace the whole watch.

I received my Moto360 on New Years Eve. I paid extra and got the light stainless band version with Motocare. I noticed a couple weeks ago my back is cracked in one corner BUT not like yours. My little black plastic pieces aren't broke at all but the back is starting to crack in one of the corners anyways.
So I ordered the steel connect a couple weeks ago and recieved it this weekend. I put them on but it looked terrible with the stock band. Surprisingly when picking up the watch the steel connect actually puts direct pressure in the corners that are cracking for everybody. I was surprised nobody has mentioned that about the steel connect.

Ahh thanks for bringing that out. I thought about it last night when talking to my wife about her Moto 360 too. Damn, I guess we have no solution but to basically keep exchanging it until the warranty runs out. After that, we toss it back into the stream like a luxury european car for CPO. LOL

To those who have cracks, do you wear the watch very tightly? I.e the watch does not move when you turn your wrist

I would have to say I do wear mine a little tight. I was a lengthly battle trying to find that sweet spot, removing/ adding links many times. I don't have small wrists by any means but the difference between 1 link is so loose it slides over the bone and I constantly have to readjust it, or a little tight so I doesn't move much.
I'm really not a big fan of the stock stainless band. It just doesn't fit right and I think it looks goofy how the square link meets up to the round face. My StrapsCo 22mm Stainless Steel Shark Mesh Watch Band should be delivered today. Oops scratch that, it was just delivered.

yea that's what the salesman told me the cracks are causes by wearing the watch too tight. The official band is too tiny for the big watch face imo, however it has the right gloss or colour to match it

Mine is not tight. I would say it's about 1-2 mm space on mine. Definitely does not leave a mark at the end of the day.

I'm also wondering if it's caused by the sudden temparature difference right after charging. The bottom of the watch is pretty warm right after I take it of the charger and wear it.

With those that have the broken connector pieces, message Wendy on the reddit forums and she'll help you out.

I wear mine fairly loose and the plastic pieces still broke. It happens when you flex your wrist to a point where it puts excess pressure on the band. Metal VS plastic, the metal will win every time.

got this good replica metal band off of amazon. it is all metal and i have had no issues with it at all. no plastic clips and it already has the notch so it fits correctly. it looks identical to the official band with the exception of the clasping mechanism. which no one ever sees anyway. i went to a jeweler to install it for 10 bux.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PQBQIYK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
def worth the 30 bux. i have had it for 3 months so far and no issues.

Stock metal band here, ordered the first batch that came with the spacers and no cracks on the back or the spacers. Small wrist and I'm always very careful not to stress it after reading everything here about cracking backs

haha you guys wont believe what happened to my moto360...
I was walking on the side of the road, when the band decide to break off and it fell on the road
right after that, a car ran over it on the concrete and cracked the screen.
The watch is only like 2 month old and no warranty for car running over it there goes my 370 dollars in the drain.

If you didn't remove the watch pins they really shouldn't have broken like that! Was it the pins that popped out?

The cracked of the 360 back, is not only whit a.metal band, it's appear to happen whit leather band too.
This is a video explaining why this happens:
Moto 360 Back Cracking: Explained: https://youtu.be/swqRTB5Iw3s

I just received my eBay metal band
http://m.ebay.com/itm/351366220700?_mwBanner=1
It came from Hong Kong and looks pretty good for such little money (9 euros). The crack back problem won't be an issue, I believe, as you can see in the last photo. Paid 2 euros for a guy on a watch store install it properly.
I would very much prefer the 24mm Monolink Metal Band but Motorola insists on not selling it separately for us that already have the watch. But considering the price I payed and comparing to the grey leather band I am very pleased

Position of Watch vs Cracked Back

So after reading about the experiences some people are having with cracks forming on the plastic back of the Moto 360, both with 3rd party bands as well as the official leather band, its seems everyone agrees that the basic cause is pressure from the band pushing on the little plastic semicircle tabs underneath the band that stick out from the back of the watch. Since different people wear watches at different positions on the wrist, I wondered whether there was a correlation between watch position and the presence of cracking. Wearing the watch below the wrist joint (further from the hand) would result in less tension being placed on the tabs than wearing the watch on or above the wrist joint, which would put increased strain on the band and thus on the tabs every time the wrist is flexed. If you could, please indicate in the poll where you wear your watch and weather you've observed a crack yet.
Maybe we should provide some extra info to cover all potential causes or factors.
Band: Pebble Steel
Position: Normally below wrist but sometimes it slips above wrist
Wrist size: Small
Crack: Yes
Crack Location: 2 fine lines on the bottom side of the watch

Yeah, thats a good point. I had thought of putting that in the poll, but I thought it would be too many options.
Band: Pebble Steel
Position: Always below wrist
Wrist Size: Medium
Crack: No
Looks like most of the votes say they don't have cracked backs. Probably some edge cases we're hearing about, I'm not worried.
Guess i'm just unlucky. Think I should try to return it to best buy?
Just to qualify my vote...
Band: Stock Black Leather
Position: usually on or below wrist, sometimes above
Wrist Size: Medium/large (3 holes left on band)
Crack: No
Age: 8 days.
most of the cracks have heard about have been with the pebble band. i opted to go with the super engineer II to prevent that,
So far no cracks here using pebble steel band. Seeing as how some people are reporting cracks with even the stock band, I think there may be more to this.

The default return policy at Best Buy is 14 days. If you are Rewards Elite its 30, Rewards Platinum is 45.
So that also begs the questions.. How fast do people notice the cracking? Did they buy from BB or BB.COM, and if so, what status customer are they?
But I can understand your question... Does BB refuse the return thinking YOU cracked it (i.e. customer caused the damage)? or do they just take it back as a defect?

That's my concern. I have Elite Plus so i have 45 days but I'm not sure if they'll take back a cracked watch.
I'm currently holding on to the watch because I really like it and they don't have it in stock. Also if I get a new one, theres nothing preventing it from cracking again. As long as it doesn't get any worse I may stick with it. I tried putting on a little bit of my wife's nail polish to see if it will prevent the crack from spreading.
good info here
Hi guys, I absolutely agree with the problem generated by the bands, especially the metal ones.
Trying with an image I've done myself, because I don't own the watch (unfortunately, I come from Italy) I'd like to share these with you.

As you can easily see in this first image, people with a quite big wrist create no contact between leather (or metal) band and the plastic piece
In this image, instead, we can notice how small wrists create a tension between the two things, and if you notice in the images posted by users on the first page there is a crapped one with metal band that you can easily image how probably crapped.
P.S.: sorry for my english
P.P.S.: obviously it's nothing official, only my tought.
I had the pebble steel band on mine, wore below wrist, and it developed 3 cracks on one side of the watch.
Strapcode super engineer ii. I cracked my band slightly while experimenting with other bands. I have a single crack less than 1/10th of an inch long that did NOT happen with my current band.
Having said that, I've been using a modified super engineer ii band and I haven't seen an increase in the current crack at all. I hate wearing watches cinched snug/tightly. I wear my bands very loose so my watch slides freely with an inch or so of travel up and down my wrist.
I'm willing to bet a lot of you guys who are getting cracks probably wear your watches like a tourniquet.

I just got my ZenWatch and the first thing I noticed was the powerful smell coming from the watchstrap. I know it's genuine leather - but wow...
I've never liked leather watchstraps, so I was planning on getting a replacement anyway... but still...
so any 22mm watch strap will work with this watch?
Yup....
After some careful consideration I decided to keep my watch. The couple things that I don't like about it could easily be fixed with a software update, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

I've had the watch for 4 days now, and the clasp on the original band has popped open 3 times when I brushed up against something at just the right angle. Twice while undoing my seat belt the clasp touched the side of the seat back, and once my wife and I just happened to reach for something at the same time and her hand touched the clasp. If it hadn't happened I wouldn't have bothered looking for a replacement band, but I'm kinda glad it did. I prefer the way this looks MUCH better than the drab brown of the original. And, it's a physical impossibility for this buckle to accidentally pop open through normal use

Thanks for the pics. I'm not a fan of that particular clasp type but the look is a definite big improvement over the std brown strap. If I'm catching it right, the band and watch body don't quite match (the bands a little too silver/chrome [sometimes called polished] to the watch body's more "brushed silver" look, yes? or is it just the pictures?)
Asking because I'm looking for a similar type replacement and I'd want to avoid that (I think that would grind on my OCD/ADD if it's noticable)

As I asked Bludevilx - the more silver (polished) parts don't seem like they'll match the watch body very closely. But on that band it looks like a mix of polished and brushed. How well does the brushed match the body? Looks like it might be very close. If you could, would you post some pics of the band on the watch?
Thank you.

If you look at the edge of the watch you'll see that the gold is sandwiched between 2 polished sides. The brush is very similar. I can't really tell a difference.
I stopped by my local jewelry repair shop in the mall and picked up this lovely Kevlar band and I couldn't be happier, also got to keep the clasp FTW If anybody is interested it's also a Hadley-Roma, they seem to make ALL the watchbands.

Metal band and plastics?

Hi all, I spent a very long time working through the different watches, decided I didn't want the potential screen burn issues of the G watch R or the Zen watch (and I love the look of the zenwatch) and eventually decided I wanted the Smartwatch 3.
Then came the strap, I couldn't find the metal band anywhere and wanted both the silicone and the metal band so I've just received a new Smartwatch 3 with metal band with an idea to order a silicone strap later...
Anyway, nowhere did I read that the metal band contains plastic, does anybody else's or have I got a newer cheaper one? The strap is indeed metal and took a while to remove the pins to shorten the band but the part the watch goes into appears to be silver painted plastic....
If the others are like this how easy are they to scratch on the front? Am I going to end up with a £200 watch with scratches on it?
Cheers all
I wanted to start a new topic but I'm hijacking yours, because this morning my stainless steel SW3 had an unexpected encounter with a wall (not a bang though), and I scratched the part outside the watch core, which is indeed fu#king silver painted plastic.
I would have scratched it anyway, it was a mistake, but then...
I try to polish it with a nail polishing machine (with the dedicated thingy, which is like cloth... I don't know what's its name), and I didn't know it was plastic until I tried on the bottom (on a link) and it worked, so I thought "why not!" and I made a fu#king dent on the top.
Which of course is way more visible than the scratch in the first place.
I'm attaching pictures of before and after (they are not that detailed but you'll understand).
I'm going to write Sony about this as I'm pissed about this, they should have said it wasn't ALL stainless steel.
The same thing happened on my Z Ultra, where the borders appear to be aluminum (and Sony said so itself), where it's really silver painted plastic.

More pics of the inside without the core: it seems like the inner casing is made of plastic, including top and bottom bezels, where the left and right borders seems like steel.
The plastic inside is not painted, so it's pretty clear that the top is painted.
If you look closely you'll see several hinges, the plastic casing seems latched to those. And if you notice, hinges are present only at the sides.

I just wish they were clear about this particular thing, and I would have paid more for the whole watch in steel.
Seeing the inside, it's clear they could have engineered a simple way to keep the bottom part of the inside casing plastic made (to ensure no harm is done to the core when you swap bands), and the top all in steel.
It could have been done, and it would have costed like 50 cent more (for them) while charging it a premium price (for us).
Anyway, I wrote to the Italian customer care, and as they obviously won't know anything, I will bother other regions like UK/US as well until someone answers.

I think it can, but it's yet to see if they'll supply the part to the general market or keep it to the self for the eventual warranty repair...

All metal isn't the best thing either. I had the LG g watch r and that thing scratched so easy. That's the main reason I sold it for the sw3.

Let's differentiate from metal to metal... The LG G R is black metal, which is a pain in the arse to polish, while the SW3 is (at least the band is) stainless steel, satin metal. You can polish it like a thousand times and it will still look good.
That would be the case, if it was all metal.
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It has certainly adjusted what I would be willing to pay for the metal strap to go on my SW3. As soon as it was announced I wondered how they were going to get the watch module to fit in a rigid stainless steel surround. I just assumed it would have a nylon or polycarbonate insert.
I wonder if there is some sort of protective coating that could be applied to the plastic bit to protect it from scratching without spoiling the look.
I have the 'metal' smartwatch 3 as well...
Unfortunately, there would be no way to have it all metal!
The radios wouldn't work... GPS / NFC / Bluetooth, would all really stop working if the top and bottom parts were also metal and not plastic.
Just worth keeping that in mind.
Yeah, it's a bit crappy, but I'm still more than happy with it.

I don't agree with that. The screen is not made of metal, so there's plenty of space for gps/nfc/bluetooth waves to go out of there. I'd rather have an all plastic core.

You know how LCD screens work right? Especially the Transreflective one in the SW3? It is backed by a silver / metal lining to reflect the light outwards, so putting the radios behind the screen won't work either! If they put an p-oled in there (like the GwatchR), then that might work, but not with the current screen tech.

You know what? I didn't know that! OK, I'd prefer having the plastic core than, it would be less exposed to scratches...

I was a little taken aback when I noticed it was plastic as well and my first thought was scratches to!
I'm going to keep an eye out for a silver permanent marker in a similar shade, so if it gets scratched I should be able to just 'paint' over it.
Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Permanent-Markers-Metallic-39108PP/dp/B00009RAX4

So how come the NFC sensor is in the middle of the screen?
And there is a bezel that varies from about 2mm to 5mm in width on the front face that isn't metal.
Is the back of the watch module metal or painted plastic? I'm not willing to scratch it to find out.

The back of the watch module is definitely metal.
Anyway, incredibly enough, Sony Italy has replied to me, saying that the watch is all metal but that metal get scratched too.
I replied posting a pic of the scratched part, let's see if they deny it again.

That is shocking! It is obvious it is plastic just by feel (and tapping it) without even scratching it I cannot believe they would try and deny it....
Anyway, had mine for about a week now and haven't scratched it just yet but I have knocked it a couple of times and panicked, mine screen protectors haven't arrived yet.

They eventually (after I posted the pic) admitted the part around the core unit is "high quality plastic".
I wonder, if this is high quality, something low quality would have fallen off the watch just by looking at it.
They told me to bring it to service under warranty, and I think I'll do that just if they let me keep the core unit (I have 2 spare bands).
When I have the time, I'll send it in and keep you posted (even though I think I'll end up with nothing, since it was my mistake).

Note 5 day one, back already cracked

Day one at work and I already cracked the back of my note 5. I've watched videos of the teardown and it seems straight forward to replace, I'll just have to wait for some to come available.

Getting out of a car and because there is no "grip" to the phone it slid out of my pocket. Dropped about 18 inches and hit a corner, dented the metal frame a little and cracked bottom of battery cover.
Bad part is case will be here tomorrow, guess it will cover it up but it still sucks.

Sorry to hear that. I love the build of this phone, but not really a fan of the slippery glass back. I installed a matte skin in the back. Just posted a new thread. Check it out!

This new "premium" design does suck in some regards. Hopefully that case covers it well. Once you put it on, you should never have to remove it because there's no longer anything back there to swap out.

Sorry for your mishap. I've trained myself that before I open the car door, I always (1) check the mirror for bicycles, and (2) check that my phone is securely positioned in my pants pocket.

It's $76 to have Samsung repair it and that includes round trip shipping. I dropped mine too.
Theres some on ebay
There's a couple on ebay ranging from $42-45 I believe. I left mine off and cleaned the adhesive off and just bought a $17 case cover. If you get a clear back cover I think it looks cool with the back guts showing
This is the reason and also that it's not removable that I'm not impressed with the "new build quality". Several friends that have the glass backed iPhones are carrying cracked phones. I would have been more impressed with a metal back. My one Nokia has a sheet metal SST back that was very strong and removable.

Wow its great that I found this thread. I too have the back of my galaxy note 5 cracked. How did it happen? I dont know exactly what happen, because I have it install with a flip case cover, so when I pull it out of the cover for weekly cleaning(wiping away any residue), I noticed a huge cracked and was really dissapointed. Well because mainly it is not a cheap phone and I guess I thought a corning gorilla glass 4 would be hard to crack. Sure I have lightly drop it a few time, but each of those fall I immediately check for any cracked and I found none. So I dont know what really happen. Anyway, after searching about this online, I am glad that apparently Im not the only one who has suffered this mishap and there is a way to fix it with mininal cost. Thanks again guys. ?
Same here... Had SView on too. Not my fault though. Small dab of Superglue in cracks to hold glass in
Clear case that shows your beautiful Note 5.

It seems there are a few replacement back glass listed on amazon, however, one of the reviews states when he received the product it was plastic.

Stainless Steel Link Band

Would you guys recommend any specific Stainless Steel Link Band? The official one by Huawei looks nice, but is too expensive. Quick-release pins would be very nice as well.
Thanks a lot!
hey,
This one:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-...acelet-Tool-for-Huawei-Watch/32563705341.html
It has it all for half the price of the official one from Huawei.
Thanks! Looks very nice.
It uses a 18mm band though if you ordering that one.
Hum, you're right. The website claims the band is 22 mm thick. It's supposed to be 18 mm, right? But most of the reviews are positive (and include photos), so I guess the band fits well.
I also found this one:

Looks good as well.

Got the watch last week myself so been shopping around as well.
I've seen that Yesoo and a brand called Hoco (bad spelling on both) on both Wish and Aliexpress as well as Amazon but the overseas total cost is a lot less but takes forever. Just depends how bad you want it I guess. Let me know if you find any other deals.
I forgot your original link was from Ali, so I guess your looking there too
I was checking out the milanese loop knock offs as well:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0178KWWBE/ref=nav_timeline_asin?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Bought huawei stainless steel with leather strap for $280 a week ago.
Got a stainless steel 20mm band with 18mm lugs and butterfly clasp for Just 10$

Honestly all the bands being sold (like the ones in this thread) are pretty much exactly the same from what I have seen. I have one of the many steel link bands that everyone has been posting.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EEDX3MU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I like mine, though I did do a bit of filing at the lug ends since they were a bit sharp and just a hair too thick making inserting the band a bit hard. It has the quick pins and securely fits and snaps close well. Do be careful about the pins they can slide out as with most of the metal bands out there. I also just bought these and awaiting delivery
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Quick-Release-Watchband18mm-for-Asus-ZenWatch-2-Women-45mm-Huawei-Watch-2015-Stainless-Steel-Band-Strap/32682330768.html
and
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/NI5L-Silicone-Rubber-Smart-Wrist-Watch-Band-Bracelet-Strap-For-Huawei-Talkband-B3/32701080350.html
Not sure about the rubber one since it was made for the Talkband and I see varying lug sizes (16 or 18mm), but for $4 bucks why not.
I also have these other bands if you are curious about any of them:

Thank you for the information and your advice. I was mainly interested in the stainless link bands so I went ahead and purchased the AliExpress one.
I can NOT recommend the eBay watchband mentioned by Panzer500. It cost me broken glass on the watch.
The ratchet that closes the watchband is not stainless steel, I suspect it is just cast aluminimum without necessary precision that would be possible if it was made of machined steel. It does not fit firmly in the hole provided so it can open very easily. It came loose today and I have broken my watch glass.

When you closed the clasp did you make sure that it was actually closed on one of the indents of the band because 5 days straight wearing it and never once was it loose or came undone.
About 2 months ago I bought one from Aliexpress (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Luxu...acement-For-Huawei-Watch-Hot/32636270014.html).
I'm wearing it every day for 2 months without any issue. It is quite heavy (it feels a bit heavier than the original one). But never became opened by accident. On the contrary: I find it sometimes a bit hard to open the clasp.
And after 2 months is still looks great, and I do think this is actually quite good quality stainless steel. I'm actually amazed by the price (especially considering the quality, and my previous watchband from a local market for 15€ which was a lot worse than this one).

Yes. After it came loose once I have always closed it carefully and pulled on the band to see if it holds. Next morning the watch fell to the floor.

The cool thing I like about the Magnetic Milanese is that when you aren't wearing it, the magnetic and flexibility allow you to create a triangle "stand". So when it is on your desk, it is elevated and facing you.
The downfall is that it loosens up during the day, but it is nice that you can finely tune the watch tightness depending on your situation. When I am out and about, I like it to be semi loose. However if I am working, I can tighten it up.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EEDX3FW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The big downfall is that I think it looks kinda feminine. I like the big lugs myself.
