Flex 2 or G4??? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been following the Flex 2 since Flex 1 came out
I've been planning to upgrade from my Note 2 FOREVER... I really wanted the Flex 2 but the whole SD810 overheating problem, lack of 3GB RAM and no Flamenco red colour choice in Europe has stopped me from buying the LG G Flex 2 straight away. I can see SD810 is getting better with updates and I realized 2GB RAM (European model) is not a deal breaker for me. But I really want a curved screen and the Red colour choice.
So I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for the red colour to come out in Europe... and guess what?
G4 was released today.
G4 seems like a perfect phone to me. LG seems to have corrected a lot of its mistakes from G3 and Flex 2. Perfect Camera, Perfect Screen, Perfect Size, Perfect Battery, Perfect Micro SD, Perfect UX.
But I just cant get over the FLAMING HOT RED AND CURVED LG G FLEX 2. My head is saying G4 but my heart is saying Flex 2.
So I have to make a decision and I would love to hear some opinions
G4: More RAM, Better Camera, "More Stable" Processor, Better Screen, Better Software.
Flex 2: CURVED SCREEN, FLAMENCO RED.
What would you choose?

The Flex 2 is a flawed device, after using both I would highly recommend the G4 over it.

I would also go with the G4. It sounds like the better device, all told. I think you'll love the slight curve of the G4.

I'm in the same boat as you, been rocking a Note 2, looking for an upgrade... originally set my eyes on the G3, but as I waited and waited the Flex 2, and now the G4 comes about. I was almost certain to get the G4 this year with full anticipation, ALSO hoping for a Flamenco red, LOL!
But alas, due to the issues of this generation of chips , I'm looking to rough out another year. the 808 is a band-aid to the problems of the 810; NOT what I'd spend a flagship amount of money for.
Or another alternative would be to get a cheaper phone to weather out the year (my Note 2 is a little faulty after all). Should it fail on me this year, I'll get an Asus Zenfone 2 (An Intel chip, rather than a Qualcomm or Mediatek) in the meantime, while waiting for a future Flex/G model.

Bro, price of Flex2 at DirectD did not drop at all since it's first available mid Feb? I got 1 Flex2 from DD for my uncle then and I tried it for few days, the phone is a bit sluggish (maybe firmware) and I am not sure if there's update to it.
My suggestion to you is, do not care about the chip, currently i am using the M9, quite smooth i would say and battery isn't that bad after I flash it with Viper.
The Zenfone 2 is quite tempting with the price point, but then, intel chips might have trouble with the apps...

Lg forgot to update the original flex but upgraded the g2, so, because story is a circle, go for the g4...

The 2GB RAM is not a deal breaker at the moment but maybe later if a new android will be released.
I got the Flex 2 but waiting for the G4.
I can understand you, the curved phone is amazing but there are many problems.
The display is the badest Display ever. This is my third one the same proble..

[Q] LG G3 for 300$, worth it?

I'm planning to get a new cellphone and I would like to know,
Is the LG G3 worth it for 300 can (about 250 us)(used)?
Is there something I should know before buying it?
Moving from my laggy lg optimus l7, I want to make a good choice, thanks!
I'm about to buy the 16GB/2GB version for 350€ (new) in a couple of days, and I don't have any doubts. I'd much rather pay 350€ for a device this good, than pay twice as much for that Samsung Galaxy S6 or even HTC One M9. So yeah, definitely worth it in my opinion.

I have bought it when it got out in my country and spent around 580-600 euros. I can tell you i have no regrets for buying it. Lg G3 is almost a perfect phone and with rooting +custom roms = you ll fall in love.

Ok i am big fan of Lg and specially for G3 but lets be clear here, S6 has ( meaning hardware all specs and stuff) the best hardware that money can buy right now. Despite that its overpriced I think g4 will be even better at least on the camera lens

I'm talking money here, 350€ vs 700€ is not so small difference, and for this money, I think G3 is a great phone.
I'm looking forward to seeing that G4 will bring, and I already love the design. But then again, it will probably cost around 700€, so I'm still going with the G3 anyways.

G3 has some problems:
1) Overheating while gaming. Thanks to throttling, it doesn't heat enough to damage itself or become hard-to-touch. Plus the phone has some governor problems.
2) Battery life on official 5.0. You won't get more than 5:5.30 SOT while web browsing on 4g.
3) Cracks on casing, happen to a lot of people after several months of use.
4) Audio jack is buggy + some sound problems.
For me, none of there are critical. I only play non-demanding games on phone, there are no problems with Bluetooth stereo headset, 5 h sot is good enough and crack is tiny and only present near IR port.
Phone is pretty fast (if you change governor to conservative), firmware is stable and has some nice features, 2k screen looks gorgeous, and design/size are just right for me. It is worth these 300$ if you ask me.

Is it the right time to buy a new G4 or should I wait for something new?

2016 is almost here and soon is the CES and I want a new phone.
Now I have SGS3.
Should I wait to see what will be in CES or just getting a new G4?
thanks guys.
I would wait for Snapdragon 820
I would wait too. The G4 is the best phone i've owned to be fair barring the S2 when it first came out, which blew me away, but next year LG should raise the bar even higher and Samsung might catch up with something that's not laggy and ugly too.

what bar did LG raise with G4? it has a great camera, but so do iphone6 and S6..
the only other things I can think off are removable battery, sd card slot and frequent updates (which is to be expected of a flagship)..
in every other aspect, G4 lags behind competition - software, build quality - materials used, battery life, sound quality, processing power

I can agree that LG doesn't manufacture the best phones out there. But it's still a solid phone with some pro's and a few more con's. I've been a Samsung user all my life and decided to buy an LG after I owned a Note 4. Both phones are pretty good, but I love my LG for its SD-Card-Slot and the camera. I need a lot of space, because I have like 200 GB of music and a lot of videos. LG supports MicroSD's up to 2 TB. That's definately a big fat pro!
I don't regret leaving Samsung, but if the S7 would feature an SD-Slot I will go back to Samsung. And to answer OP's question: I'd wait, too. Wait for the LG V10, which will be released this month (think it's a nice phone and better than the G4). Don't know how long you can bear to wait, but if you like Samsung wait for the S7. Still the best smartphones regarding the design (imho). Despite all of that LG is very good, too. It's a matter of taste I guess Cheers
it's the best time because you have to think about the price also

Thanks for yours answers .
@Follow_and_Feel I don't think there is a must different between G4 and V10. at least not something worth the extra 30%.
I think to wait for the S7 or G5 but have no clue how much is it to wait... :-|

I think the S7 will be shipped in the first quarter of 2016 (Maybe february / March). I don't know about the G5.
The V10 has a slightly bigger screen and I personally love huge phones, but waiting is ok I think. The G5 will propably be on sale in summer and that's a long time to wait
I don't know about your financial situation but I'd be like: Buy the G4, sell it when the G5 comes out, buy the G5
But that's only me
Hit thanks button if you think my posts are helpful please
well, am in the same boat as well. but for me since I'll be leaving my home country for a job outside, I need to buy something now so I can check it within 2-3 weeks that I've. V10 seems nice but nothing extraordinary compared to G4 and the price is high as well. So, am stuck as well on what to do

Why G4 price went down to $350?

Anyone knows why the price for the G4 went down to like $350? Like I can buy a new G4 from Tmobile for only $350, when the G5 is not even outo yet? And the G4 was just release about half a year ago?
Lg phones always go down. They go down more than any other phones so expect the LG G5 will be down in 6 months to the $300
As said, LG phones get cheap really quick. Plus, the device itself doesn't feel any expensive, so it's no surprise for to see it at that price.
the G5 is coming out soon. Same thing happening with the galaxy s6
is so that they want you to buy the phones that will be on the shelves.. they need to get rid of it..
As mentioned, between the V10 and G5, this phone is becoming more and more outdated. I'm sure the bootloop fiasco didn't help, either.
What's odd is when I was hit with the bootloop, I was going to go back to the G3 but they still wanted almost $400 for it, despite the G4, V10, and upcoming G5.
Don't worry the G5 will have the same depreciation

I'm personally finished with LG mobile devices. The G4 has been a nightmare. When it's used without being rooted, the icons and navigation bar are huge. Looks like its designed for the visually impaired. Back to the Nexus 6p for me.

yeah... LG i'm done with them too, it's actually more expensive to buy an LG's device than an IPhone if you change every year.
Me three done with LG, first phone bootlooped after eight months and now the replacement has mic issues, screen buzz, and LCD image issues at the bottom. LG needs to step up or be content being number three or four.

I had no issues with my LG G4, its fast and smooth, excellent performance beautifull camera, great material, black leather, excellent speaker, screen and battery quality. for me its even better than G5...and much much bettern than any other samsung phone outover there, S6, S7, N5. etc....

whats with the bootloop problem. it cant be fixed? must it be fixed by LG?
Bootloop can be fixed. You need to send your G4 to LG for the fix.
Count me in the group that's done with LG. They fixed my bootloop but sent my phone back with a messed up camera. I planned on using this thing for photos on my honeymoon, too.

What are you going to take after the G4?

Hey guys so this is my last day here at the G4 forum. Ditching my phone for an Oneplus 3.
I Wanted to create a thread where u can share information about your next device and why u leaving the G4.
For me it's clear. I have a sn 506 which thank god never bootlooped. I sent my phone after 12 months of usage in because of crazy screen burn in and they replaced me Motherboard processor and PCB. And it did get worse after that. Phone got unusable and the lack of Updates made my choice in direction to the OP3.
Goodbye Guys
I'm still using my LG G4 and I'm loving every bit of my experience with it. My next phone, when I replace it would be either LG G5 or LG V20.
Motorola are good phones, Samsung is great, I've used different models of those. But there is no other phone like LG when it comes to Androids. Best experience ever.
They aren't good at marketing their products like their competitors which makes them loose the market to less quality products out there. Otherwise, LG makes great phones. Remember the time when LG released LG Viewty? The whole world had that phone on their wish-list. They still make extraordinary phones.

Steering clear of any LG phones. The G3, G4, G5, and V10 all had bootloop problems. No thanks.
I am an Android fan and modder since 2013. I love(d) Android. So much customization, and I still like my G4 (except the fact if i hit it very weakly or it accidently jumps down the battery connection loses and it turns off). Few months ago I bought an iPad Air 2. I have to tell you, iOS is awesome. Lag? Not even a micro. Weaker hardware than G4 and runs much smoother. I also love iOS animations. Sorry Android, but.....
My new phone will be probably an iPhone 7 Pro/Plus, or a 7S.

One thing is sure..i will never buy any phone from LG,G4 is the worst phone I've had so far,for LG is best to produce dishwashers instead of smartphones, with my G4 i have problems with :red colored retention on gray colored parts of display, poor call quality ,call volume too low and distorted, terrible battery life, overheating, phone is 505 series it has has problems with everything except the camera ,and the damn thing does not want to die (bootloop issue) so I can get a new phone because I still have a year warranty on damn thing, never more LG smartphone ,next phone will be most likely iphone 6s plus or new coming iphone 7 i am just to tired of tweaking android so i can have a normal phone
My next device would either be a HTC or Nexus. I saw how the G2 and G3 had the bootloader unlocked eventually so I thought the same would happen. I then realized how much I truly needed it, life without AOSP feels so.. Slow.
HTC always seems to be spot on with their devices on the software level. Their camera need work but I'm not a photographer anyways.
Nexus is like a blank canvas and can be tuned to your liking. I'd probably go nuts with the options available.
Looking forward for V20,
Own att G4 with 506 serial and so far so good for my daily usage...even with my front camera have focusing issue but i'm not a selfie person.
Feel sorry for those who had bootloop issue with their device
I love the G4 but my confidence in it is basically shot. I've had it about nine months and it has had to go back for warranty repairs three times. Twice for screen issues and once for bootlooping. Add to that my non-carrier H815T is still on the January security patch, which is crazy. It's disappointing because my two previous phones (Nexus 5 and Nexus 4) were both also LG devices and were really good. But now every time my G4 has the slightest bump, stuff that I would normally just ignore as a quirk, I find myself sweating that it's about to start bootlooping again or get some other crazy hardware issue.
I'm going to wait and see what the new Nexus device is like when it's released in a few weeks. If that doesn't tickle my fancy then I'll have a serious look at a Samsung Galaxy S7.
Got a Oneplus 3 on the way. Going to sell my G4 SN 506 EU H815 even though it has had zero issues and in brief been a fantastic device. Just can't really gamble on it not developing bootloop. Plus OP3 has fingerprint scanner, excellent development and just generally a very well rounded device.:good:
If I drop my G4, then I will get a HTC 10 or one of the new Nexus devices. Depends on the price of course and if I had the money...:good: (So I don't know if ever...student life without money ftw!:silly: )
Moto Z Play
Good camera, good battery, thats all i need
My actually device is the LG G4, it's a good Smartphone, but I think the G3 was a bit better, it was easier to root and flash then the G4, the design from the G3 is so much better.
My next device is: LG V20, G5 or Nexus 6p
Sorry for my ****ing **** English
Though I'm pretty happy with my LG G4, having heard of all these bootloop and other issues, I probably won't be getting another LG device. From a design point of view, the G5 does not appeal to me one bit. Pretty much the same goes for the V20.
Having used a few smartphones now, I began to lean more towards stock Android, so probably a new Nexus device is on the horizon for me. OnePlus might be an option as well.
My boat with LG G4 has sailed. I enjoyed this device and now I have given it away.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I purchased the G4 on October 2015 and got the bootloop on December: so I sent it for repair before the holidays and they replaced the motherboard (IMEI and SN untouched), then I got it back on January. After this episode I've never had a single problem with this phone, I really love it, but at the same time I'm really disappointed about how LG (at least here in Italy) supports it (just a security patch after 8 months, when other phones get regular patches every month). Also, I red about many G4s that bootlooped again even if they were repaired the first time and now some V10s and G5s do the same thing too, so I'm a little bit afraid that bootloop might happen again. Patience, but I don't think my next phone will be another LG, I'm going to get an HTC (my One S was a really good phone and today for basic stuff is still OK) or an ASUS (I recently bought for my mum a Zenfone and it's fantastic) in the future. I usually change my phone every 3-4 years, so I have much time to think about this.
I love stability and camera quality in phones.
When I came back to Android I tied a few till I get at G4.
Loved Huawei Mate S and OnePlus 2.
But camera it's all G4, so ill stick with it till I get a better one.
For me it's only one bad thing about this phone, its the screen resolution - no point higher than FHD for a 5.5 screen and battery suffer cause of LG choice.
Rest I'm loving it.

I'm not due an upgrade for a year, but my next phone will most likely be a Nexus (or Pixel/whatever they call them).

Does it make sense to get LG G7 ThinQ today?

Hello folks,
Son dropped my phone and broke the screen. It is not worth spending money to fix the screen. I am looking for a newish phone but in the current job climate, I do not want to spend more than $150. While going through Swappa listings, I found a few LG G7 Thin Q listed below $150.
I was wondering what is the scenario on this board with regards to rooting and ROM availability for this device. I have been going through various threads but I am not clear about it. So does it make sense to spend $150 on getting Lg G7 ThinQ or I should be looking at other devices like Pixel 2 or something?
Thanks in advance.
I have the same question, I can buy a lg g7 thinq or a mi 8 at the same price and idk what could be the best.
i feel like g7 gives you the best bang for your buck from what i see
I can tell u the g7 is worth, but be sure u buy the 710Em version (eur/global) that is the version that will give u all his power. Other versions live t-mobile are hard soft blocked, u need to do some tricks to get 1% of all the dev there are here. Trust me u will no get the same quality on other devices at same price or on the same SOC, lg did his work hard with this mobile. Im not a fanbpy, but every day i discover new things about my phone that makes it wonderful.
Hi,
I bought the G7+ dual sim EAW version with 6gb ram and 128gb storage only had it 4 weeks and i dropped it resulting in the black screen of death. The cost to replace screen was £70 which i fixed myself. Apart from this it is a very good phone for the specs it has. Very good screen with boost for out in the sun. I can watch stuff without screwing up my eyes with ease. As for battery life its ok but i bought my self the battery case that gives it a total if more than 2 days use using both internal and external battery.
Well worth considering if buying another phone.
Definitely Worth Buying
I bought a mint used one from Swappa - it's fast enough for my purpose, battery is certainly good for my all day usage. Excellent screen, fits my hand well for one hand use (and I have small hands). Great reception on T-Mobile.
Unless you're going to root it you can disable most of the crap that you do not want and even on the T-Mobile model I have no issue with RAM. Compared to the specs for the G8, it wouldn't make sense to upgrade.
Only issue is that the morons from LG will never provide timely updates - no wonder LG loses money.
I second @docfreed. The LG G7 is a great phone overall. You won't find many other rootable phones that also have an SD slot and headphone jack. If the battery was easily replaceable, it'd be darn near perfect. My wife and I have had our rooted G7s for a year or two, and they've performed admirably. My charge port is giving out, so I'm actually looking around at other options, and I keep coming back to the G7. You just get a lot of bang for the buck.
Let me know if you have any questions.
