Well I got it working. Now I cannot comment on the exact steps above as I had already applied the other "permanent sim unlock" procedure. I can tell you what I did though.
-I did not remove my sim. I don't think that step is necessary.-confirmed not necessary
-I copied the carrier files to carrier/apps
-I copied the files from etc folder to etc
-I left the apn-conf file from the previous unlock-This is necessary
Reboot
This gave me signal, but no data
-I entered ##DATA# in the dialer
-Hit APN Setting
-Hit menu button, and Reset to Default
BAM... GSM signal shows up, I have data working.
Also confirm the hands free activation didn't appear after the steps above.

Guys can u help me root my phone.

Take a look through your apn-conf file and make sure your APN is listed properly. Make sure you rebooted your phone, it often needs that to pick up APN. If it's there, try resetting to default again in ##3282#. Hope you get it working.

go ahead with it.

For me the old method worked.
I tot to ZVE, unlocked the phone using same old thing & then flash the OTA from cache.. simple.

[GUIDE] Flash T-Mobile Galaxy Tab so that it makes calls with any sim (EDGE only)

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS. IF YOU BRICK OR DAMAGE YOUR DEVICE IN SOME WAY, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. THERE ARE SOME STEPS THAT MIGHT NOT BE LEGAL IN SOME COUNTRIES (CHANGING IMEI NUMBERS), AND I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT EITHER. EVERYTHING YOU DO WITH YOUR DEVICE IS YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY AND IF YOU FOLLOW ALL THESE STEPS YOU ARE AGREEING TO THAT. THIS TUTORIAL IS DONE FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES.
Thanks to clubtech, rotohammer, koush, ayman07 and everyone in xda that has worked hard to make this possible. I did not come up with any of this, I only gathered it all from different sources and smashed it all together in an easy-to-read guide. Credit is due to all of those listed above, if I missed anyone please do let me know and I'll gladly add you here.
You will need
- P1000XWJJ4 firmware (pass: samfirmware.com)
- P1000XXJK5 firmware (pass: samfirmware.com)
- Odin 1.3
- Koush's zImage for T-Mobile Galaxy Tab
- flash_image
- I900AOJP3.bin Modem from HERE
1) Put you tab into download mode (Turn it off, when it's off, Press VolDown+Power until you see a yellow android and it says downloading...) (WARNING: All your data will be lost in the next step! Everything, INCLUDING the internal memory! Make sure to back everything up to your computer!)
2) Use Odin: Flash P1000XWJJ4 (PDA button) with P1_add_hidden.pit and make sure "Re-partition" is SELECTED, press Start and wait for it to finish. The device will reboot and it will turn on again, probably in russian.
3) Turn it off and put it on download mode again.
4) Use Odin: Press the reset button, then make sure "Re-partition" is UNSELECTED and there's NO PIT file, then flash P1000XXJK5 under "PDA".
5) The device will reboot with the latest euro firmware in english. The modem will probably be undetected, the device will be working kinda crazy (It might be slow and whenever you use something that uses the vibrator it'll get worse, the vibrator won't probably work, don't worry about this, it will be fixed in the next few steps)
6) Make sure you have flash_image and the tmobile_zImage in hand and issue these commands:
Code:
adb push flash_image /data/local/bin/flash_image
adb push tmobile_zImage /sdcard/
adb shell
su (make sure to select "Allow" when the Superuser dialog pops up on the tab)
chmod 755 /data/local/bin/flash_image
/data/local/bin/flash_image boot /sdcard/tmobile_zImage
sync
exit
7) Now, the kernel should be flashed, a reboot should fix all the weirdness. However, instead of rebooting, turn it off, and put it on download mode again (VolDown+Power)
8) Use Odin: Press reset on Odin, make sure "Re-partition" is UNSELECTED, and on the Phone button, flash the modem I900AOJP3.bin.
11) Wait for it to reboot. At this point, the tab should work fine, and the modem should be detected by the system. However, you won't be able to make calls or use the internet because T-Mobile is blocking data. Now, we need to change the IMEI number (READ DISCLAIMER ABOVE!)
12) Now, we need to backup all the contents in the /efs folder, that way, the IMEI will be corrupted, we want this to happen because T-Mobile is blocking the IMEIs on all T-Mo Galaxy Tabs so that data doesn't work unless you have the right plan/contract (BAD MOVE T-MO! WE DIDN'T EXPECT THAT FROM YOU, AT&T MAYBE, BUT NOT YOU!)
13) Backup the /efs folder (Notice: you must have busybox installed, get busybox installer from the market)
Code:
adb shell
su
busybox tar zcvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs
busybox cat /dev/block/stl3 > /sdcard/efs_dev-block-stl3.img
exit
back to the shell in your computer, now use these commands to put those files in your computer, and save them somewhere safe.
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz .
adb pull /sdcard/efs_dev-block-stl3.img .
14) Delete all contents from /efs and reboot. Easiest way to do it is using root explorer from the market. DO NOT DELETE THE ACTUAL FOLDER, JUST IT'S CONTENTS.
15) Done, you will be able to browse the web, send/receive SMS, and send/receive voice calls. The only issue at this moment is that it will only work on EDGE, 3G is not possible, YET.
Enjoy.
This method was posted earlier and is much easier i'd say. Thanks.

Where exactly? Please link me to the post that makes your T-Mo Tab make calls, using the Euro firmware and vibrator works and the tab doesn't go crazy.
As I said, all the guides I found were missing a few pieces. One was for AT&T Tabs, but I didn't find one that was for T-Mo tabs in a single piece, everything was scattered all around.

Oh ok, didn't notice that also works for T-Mo tabs. Oh well.
Thanks.
Thanks for posting this guide. I followed the instructions and still cannot make phone calls. It seems to dial but the T-Mobile automated voice operator says "The phone you are using does not allow outgoing calls."
I removed all /efs files and rebooted, then verified that the IMEI was corrupt afterwards.
Any ideas? Maybe T-Mobile is blocking the corrupt IMEI number now?
Thanks in advance!

I don't think so. Are you using a SIM card with a plan that has phone calls or are you using the same SIM card? Your Tab has a webConnect plan that does not allow phone calls, so you need to put in a SIM card that has data and calling plan.
They are blocking the IMEI for data, as far as I know, so if you use your tab to go online (without using Wifi), and it goes to my.t-mobile.com even if you try to go to xda-developers.com then they are blocking it, but in your case, it's just probably the calling plan.

How much to wait before the unlock code becomes available

Hello, I have a Glide manufactured in Nov 2011. I tried to unlocked by many companies, but all failed to get the unlock code, saying that it is unavailable. I see that it is no software unlock tool (as for the Galaxy S). I have it rooted but locked...
Any idea when the code can become available or another solution to have it unlocked?
Thanks
Sorry, forgot to mention: it is locked on Rogers, Canada
After ~90 days after the purchase, if you call AT&T and say that you're 'going overseas' they'll give you an unlock code.
I have successfully unlocked mine using a code from this site - www.cellunlocker.net.
I hope it fine to post the name in this forum.

I already tried it. Also tried RogersCodes.ca, Theunlock.ca, OttawaPC.ca, MobileInCanada.com, cellunlock.net...
Think that I will have to pay 40$ to Samsung directly. I understood from OttawaPC.ca that it is a chance they can get it from them.

No the phone will not be released outside US & Canada. I bought it on eBay (.com - US) and got it to India through Borederlinx (Postal Forwarding). Approx 27k including shipping and duty charges.
Phone is very good especially for QWERTY lovers..
Just curious, but does this work? https://market.android.com/details?id=com.helroz.galaxysunlock&hl=en
Or could it be modded to work?

First tried - it doesn't work. I used it on another Galaxy S i9000 without problem, but it doesn't work on Glide (i927R)
Second: tried, doesn't work as it stated in the first page, the file nv_data.bin is re-created at each boot. I have to take a look deeper for hidden files (starting with .). I will do a try probably later
After many tests, deleted files (starting with dot or not) at each re-boot it will recreate the files.
In the file nv.log I see something like "restoring from secondary backup"... Where it stores that secondary backup it I have no idea...

I suppose that yours is rooted. If not, you will have to root it first. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378082.
After root, use a file explorer.
I use the ES File Explorer downloaded from the market:
- Launch it
- Goto "Settings> File Settings". Be sure that Show hidden files is checked
- Also be sure is checked "Settings > Root Explorer"
- In "Settings > Home directory" write "/" (without the quotes)
explore the "efs" folder in the root
- move the following files in a backup folder somewhere to your internal SD card (you will need them if you want to restore later to original phone setup) : .nv_core.bak, .nv_core.bak.md5, .nv_data.bak, .nv_data.bak.md5, nv_data.bin, nv_data.bin.md5. Moving them they will be deleted from the efs folder (that's ok).
Reboot.
Now you will have it unlocked but with the generic IMEI.
It worked for me, hope it will work for you. Do it on your own risk. Don't blame me...
Later, if you want to return to the original (locked): copy all mentioned files from the backup folder to the "efs" folder and reboot.
followed above steps.
After the reboot -- there is no default screen asking for Unlock Code.
Instead my phone reboots just to homescreen.
When the sim attempts to Register to Network i get an error message.
"Phone not allowed MM#6" which i believe is because of the Generic IMEI.
When i attempt an call, i get the error message "Not Registered on Network"
Generic IMEI is 004999010640000/02
PS: Files /efs/nv_data.bin & nv.data.bin.md5 is getting created after every boot
---------- Post added at 11:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:51 PM ----------
replaced the backed up files to its original folder.
Phone back to normal.

Maybe you can Unlock by finding the unlock code in the bml3.bak file. Here are some steps forgot where i got from. HAVE TO BE rooted and used adb. Download a hex editior. I used 010 Editor. simple
(Place phone in debugging mode)
CMD program on computer
(mount to your folder where adb files located vie 'Cd ........'
(next are commands and just put them all in but make sure you read it through first!!)
adb shell
su
Cd
cd /dev/block
(then press enter)
---------------------------
TYPE THE FOLLOWING:
su
(then press enter, now your phone might ask for superuser permission, ALLOW it or say YES. You may not have to do this step, if it asked you before)
----------------------------
Now you will do one of the following below. Pay attention.
----------------------------
IF YOU HAVE AN EXTERNAL SD CARD TYPE THE FOLLOWING:
dd if=/dev/block/bml3 of=/sdcard/external_sd/bml3.bak
(then press enter)
IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN EXTERNAL SD CARD TYPE THE FOLLOWING:
dd if=/dev/block/bml3 of=/sdcard/bml3.bak
(then press enter)
Step 5) Now, find the file on your External SD card or Internal Storage depending on your situation and transfer it to your computer. If you don't know how to find the file. Plug your phone up and enable Mass Storage or Connect USB Storage. I won't baby you on how to find it. It should be somewhere on your phone or external SD card if you did step 4 correctly. Transfer that bml3.bak file to your computer. I recommend the desktop so will always know where it's at. You can delete it later if you want. So transfer it to somewhere on your computer.
Step 6) On your computer, open up 010 Hex Editor
Step 7) IMPORTANT: In 010 Hex Editor go to the Menus at the top and select VIEW then LINEFEEDS then SELECT CUSTOM, now SET YOUR BYTES TO "32" Nothing Less. If you don't do this, you won't find your unlock code. Do it.
Step 8) While you're in 010 Hex Editor, click Open and locate the bml3.bak file you created and open it. There will be a bunch of letters, numbers or whatever, ignore them for now.
(CREDIT TO FR0Z3N FOR CLARIFYING THE FOLLOWING 2 STEPS)
Step 9) Now press CTRL+F on your keyboard to search for a hex string. Now a box that says Find should pop up and when the search window pops up select "Hex bytes (h)" in the Type field by pushing the down arrow and then search for the following string below:
"FFFFFFFFFF0100000000" ALL TOGETHER WITH NO SPACES, Then Hit the FIND ALL button to the right, some of you will get many results and others up to 10 results on your screen below (not mine, someone else's computer)
tried above method
and also the original method mentioned at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176886
However no result.
I am not able to locate bml3 file.
Also when i explore through ES File Explorer there is no such file in the directory
I second what Vinay said. Using root browser I found that the dev/block directory on my phone contains files that are 2012 loop0 through2012 loop7, 2012 mmcblk1 and 2012 mmcblkOp1 through 11. It also has the subfolders platform and vold. Also all the files in the folder are listed as 0.00 bytes. Any suggestions on the usefulness of any of these files or other places to look for the bml3 file? I don't think the search function in root browser is comprehensive.

[Q] Unlocking BL - need clarification

Hi,
I am going to unlock my Arc S BL. I read many here, but need some clarifications:
My goal is to have XUHD 5.0.1 with suggested kernel (Lupus). Right now I have XUHD 3 (with mod), phone is rooted (I did it somehow:laugh. It got slow and buggy after a while, so I need to refresh it totally.
THE PLAN:
1. Unlock BL using SE Bootloader Unlocking v1.6 by quangnhut123 (seems easier for a newbie than "sony" way, not mentioning the test point one).
2. Using the same tool flash LuPuS Kernel Stock.
Now to be confirmed: All I have to do is to enter IMEI and select file LuPuS_anzu_Stock-iCsv16-full.img. Done?
What would I get after that? Shell I turn on the phone as usual (and it is supposed to run as normal, maybe fresh)?
Should I remove my SD card while doing steps 1-2? Is the contentt of the SD card erased after the process?
Gaps - totally new to me - should I do something with them?
3. Flash the ROM. Well I did it earlies and it worked, so I believe when I will get confirmatoion of above I might succeed.
To be confirmed: to "make phone as new" - what pratition should I wipe? I am going to backup everything possible earlier.
I would like to add my own ringtone. How to do that? (I was told it can be done after installing ROM - via CWM - need suggestions...)
Do I miss something? Do I have to check anything before I start (dont want to finish with not working device...)
Any help would be VERY appreciated.
big thanks in advance.

That is the "sony" way but all the process is done with this app. You lose same features as with the "sony" way.

What would I get after that? Shell I turn on the phone as usual (and it is supposed to run as normal, maybe fresh)?

You get unlocked bootloader, custom kernel installed. When you have installed the custom kernel, enter Recovery (press Volume Down button many times during kernel boot logo), wipe the necessary partitions (depends on the ROM) and install new ROM.

Should I remove my SD card while doing steps 1-2? Is the contentt of the SD card erased after the process?

Not necessary. No SD Data is touched during this process. Unlocking bootloader though does remove all data from your phone inside (not SD), so make backups if necessary.

Gapps stand for Google Apps. They are only required, if you install non-stock based ROM (CyanogenMod aka CM or any other).

3. Flash the ROM. Well I did it earlies and it worked, so I believe when I will get confirmatoion of above I might succeed.
To be confirmed: to "make phone as new" - what pratition should I wipe? I am going to backup everything possible earlier.

For most ROMs, you need to wipe /data, /cache and /system. Non-stock based may require you to not wipe /system.

If it is on your SD card, your phone can find it. Alternatively, you can put it to /system/media/audio/ringtones folder with any file explorer, that can edit system directory (I personally use ES File Explorer).

The reason to put it to device memory instead of card one it that when phone is connected to PC in mass storage mode it switches the default ringtone (phone does not have acces to the card)
Well, I did try copy to devuce filesystem, but I get Read Only file system warning, no files copied. I used ES with root permission. I was told it can be done by flashing, but dont know how to do that..
BIG, BIG thanks for your help

Open ES File Explorer, press the Menu button, make sure Root Explorer is turned on, then click on Root Explorer, Mount R/W, make sure /system is set to RW.
SUPERB, thanks again. Working like a charm.
I backed up all I needed. I started SE Bootloader Unlockin Tool, but after I enter my IMEI and hit Get Unlock Code the text-area where the code should appear chnaged color to light-gray only, and nothing more.
I am running win764 if matters...
Should I proceed as told? (hit unlock BL even if Unlock code is not displayed?
I sould I get the code via http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/, paste it and than proceed?

Sim Unlock ZVG lollipop

Hey guys!
I have searched through the forums and found a solution to unlock the sim card on the sprint g2 ls980.
YOU MUST HAVE ROOT FOR THIS
download: https://www.mediafire.com/?tomzuzno01m8zgi
1) Install R.E manager from the rar file. OR any other root browser.
2) copy the carrier files in the /carrier/apps folder and etc files in the /system/etc folder. Make sure you change the permissions to 0644 after pasting.
3) Restart your phone
4) you should receive the signal but the data would not be working.
-Enter ##DATA## (##3282##) in the dialer
-Hit APN Setting
-Hit menu button, and Reset to Default. That should get it working.
5) To get rid of handsfree activation:
install shortcut master, select the search, keyword lte, find com.lge.SprintHiddenMenu.iot.LTESetting, click on the launcher, appear after selecting Operation Mode tab, change the options for Lab Network, the machine will automatically restart, no more handsfree activation pop up.
P.S this is not my work, i just eased the method from two threads.
Special Thanks: @linyincsz @scottdanpor @ysabxe

Yes, it will still be unlocked. But you'll have to activate data connection again (step 4) or config apn manually.
And about permissions, you'll have to change them for all the files you copied.

No Mobile Data on Treble Roms

I've tried over 5+ different treble ROMs and the mobile data will not work. My friend @Spaceminer had helped me try to solve it by finding an apns-conf.xml as well as a flashable zip but no luck.
I'm using the Moto G6 Play XT1922-7 Boost Mobile Variant.
I'm sorry I haven't provided much detail to the issue but this basically sums it up.
Thank you for any help.
Same problem here with 1922-4 retail variant, i have tried to flash the vendor.img over gsi's via fastboot but it just get stuck in a bootloop. The only option i have is stay in stock pie

Yes and got another bootloop and the 'failed to mount /vendor' message when you try to flash anything. Idk if there's a possible fix for mobile networks

You have to find your correct apns-config.xml, place it in /system/etc and set permissions to 0644. Then reboot, open your mobile network settings and reset your apn.
If you ever want to go from Pie to Oreo, grab your very last Oreo firmware and flash everything like normal. Some things won't flash, and that's okay. If that happens, just skip it and flash the next items in line. When you're done, reboot it normally and let it encrypt at least once. If you don't let it encrypt first it can cause a recovery bootloop and you'll have to flash everything again.

Use a root explorer, navigate to the file, long press it and select permissions and set them to rw-r--r--. It should prompt you to mount the system automatically to make the changes. Mine does anyhow. (See sceenshot)
Or;
In TWRP, select mount > system. Then select advanced > file manager > navigate to and select the apn file, and you'll have an option to change permissions. Select it, delete the 0000 and enter 0644 then swipe to confirm. Reboot.
Or;
Using an Android Terminal enter;
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
chmod 0644 /system/etc/apns-config.xml
reboot

Thanks! I will try this the next time i flash a rom
Would someone be so kind enough to share their BOOST apn.config.xml that the replaced the one on with that does NOT work on these GSI's?? If you do I'll follow you and hit thanks all day. ??
Here's (see screenshot) the closest I've ever gotten far as having data on a gsi. I must have the wrong xml file. I am fully aware of the process described above and have even done it multiple ways after I knew the way described and how I was adding the apn xml was correct and I have zero data.
If someone will attach their apn.config.xml, the one that they acquired data from using the boost Mobile network I'll be extremely thrilled and forever greatful to add it to the thread I made over in guides section so that in the future people can solve this issue fast and get her running and have a jolly day. ? I made that thread (I'll change the name later today) initially to consolidate as much info as I could and put it all in the op so we can be a bit more organized. I just haven't figured out anything else so I can't add to it just yet. ? This would be a great addition if someone would be so cool enough to kick me down some knowledge far as what's the correct apn.config.xml to replace the og one in gsi to get data working. I've deleted the current apn xml and replaced it with the one I have, I've overwritten it, I've tried countless times messing with the telephony.db and I obviously can't do it. Please pleeeaasee post the proper apn xml so I can get this phone going and add to op over there. @Starkiller2
I hope everyone is having a good day. It hot as **** where I'm at today. ??
I got nothing on xml. I only ever found one way to get it to work on boost, that was with the sqlite editor.

Next time you're running a custom rom and you get data working, you can just copy /system/etc/apns-conf.xml and save it for later. You won't have to mess with any apps after that.

Vague and unhelpful. Need better directions on that I messed with sqlite editor for days on end swapping out telephony.db things and never did get it going.
Did you swap both of them??
Did you swap other files in telephony.db too?
Details...?
What files exactly did you extract in telephony.db?
Vague comments never help anyone. Better to not post at all then post some two word comment with a link.
I apologise, I'm driving across country and was making an effort to help in the little time I had, but you're right, better to not try at all. Which may be why you aren't getting any answers to your questions. Some info is usually better than none and can sometimes lead you in the right direction, but you won't even get that much snapping at everyone who doesn't immediately solve the problem you have and then rage quitting when you can't do it yourself. It makes people not want to put in any effort. You have 4000 posts I assumed you could figure out how to edit apns with an app from the play store. You're right. I should absolutely stop offering any input at all, but rather I should just start *****ing and whining when I'm not spoon fed like I see so much here.
And as I have posted directions in multiple other threads, I assumed you had done at least a cursory search for your answer(as per forum rules) which would've found those posts but I was apparently wrong there as well.

Thank you. That's good to know
hi, there is in the web a file apns-conf.xml to download? or sombody take us a backup? Thanks
Hey gang, I too am having issues trying to simply get mobile data working on GSI's. I have a Pixel 3a, and have tried multiple Android 10 GSI's, all of them don't allow me to use mobile data. I have not tried the apns-conf.xml trick yet, as I am unsure if that's the answer if it hasn't worked for others. Android 11 does not use an apns-conf.xml in system/etc/ so I couldn't extract it from my current setup unfortunately. Wish you all luck, post back if you get something working.
not working, moist do you have rooted phone? because only on rooted phones you can do this trick

I'll probably flash a ROM this weekend and pull my xml to test this. I have Telus so I unfortunately can't help with the Boost users, but can at least help confirm whether this method works or not.
ok thanks i wait, my phone seems to be dead on 4g.. says: no registration..
I tried everything imaginable and perhaps even the unimaginable .. heheheh .. but the result is always the same: no recording on the 4g, so I'm more and more inclined that it is a hardware failure or even a damage to the eeprom memory because 'I have formatted everything and the mobile phone has recharged everything correctly but it was useless ..
I tried to see that maybe it has a sim locked, but I didn't manage to enter meta mode and try to force it also because only with miracle box there is a guide ... umh ... and I do not stop until I succeed in the objective, and then the next step will be to take a complete image of another mobile phone identical to mine and copy it over it (but it is almost impractical because I cannot find anyone who gives me a full backup of this phone) and then I will brutally try to put another image of another working smartphone on it, leaving only the crucial sectors intact (system, boot, vendor, recovery, preloader, everything else I format it hehehehh) I will know..
Well I have a ROM flashed and found the apns-conf.xml, which is not included on my stock ROMs (10 or 11). Now going to flash a GSI or two and do some tests to see if I can get any data working.
Edit: Couldn't get the apns-conf.xml to work. However, I did find out the some GSI's work right out of the box for my Pixel 3A, those included AOSP 10 / 11 by Phh, and the CAOS R build. Bless, qidroid, havoc booted fine but did not have mobile data working.
