Can you still get a upgrade from sprint if rooted - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

I am debating if I should root. From my understanding rooting knocks the knox doesn't it. So if i root it and then before sending it back to sprint for an upgrade unroot it would they still accept the phone?

We dont check or care if phone has been rooted or not . There is nothing on your easy pay or lease agreement saying that you cant . It just voids your warranty. As long as the phone has no physical or liquid damage we will take the phone back .

Tis true. Only if you come in wanting servicing or replacement do we care if it's rooted. But upgrades and trade ins are ok

Debranded Phone = Warranty Void?

Just realised if i debranded my T-Mobile Desire then that means my phone is no longer under warranty with them doesn't it?
It's risky that's why it was repeatedly said that there was no way to flash back to the T-mobile ROM yet and there is no guarantee they will take it without that.
It seems that topics lately have been completely forgetting to mention that and just saying you can do it.
I knew there was no way of going back until we get root and can dump a T-Mobile rom. I just never planned on dropping my Desire into a glass of Tia Maria and Coke! lol.
Ach they probably wouldn't even notice lol. Just say you removed some of the branding
Would it really void warrenty anyway? It's not even a custom ROM.
The branding is so minimal maybe they will not even notice. I'm not sure if they would check. Worst they could do is send it back i suppose!
If your device was dropped into liquid the device will be out of warranty anyways.
There is a small white sticker beneath the battery connector, when it becomes wet, the sticker turns red. (next to that: the whole mainboard will be a sticky mess: tia maria & coke: lots of stickyness..)
The repair service will tell you that this accident is not covered by warranty.
Hope you can get your insurance pay for a replacement.
Regards,
EqX
Both water indicators are bright and shiny white still. It wasn't the entire phone that went under either. Just less than half maybe ha ha.
Hi,
I was wondering if you have got the softwareupdate 1.21? i also have a HTC Desire (Branded with T-Mobile software) and i do not have the update.
Is there a way to get rid of the branding and just use the normal version(the one you get when you have a non branded version)
I hope to hear from you soon!
Thanks!

The good (and only) answer you'll get is that they sell their Desires branded. Also, afaik rooting doesn't void your warranty, unless it leads to a hardware error and they can prove it was the rooting that did it.
There hasn't been a single instance yet of someone's Desire not being repaired under warranty if there was a non-related hardware fault on a rooted Desire, and there's nothing in the warranty agreement to suggest that they wouldn't repair it for free if you root it.

They can tell me that they sell there Desires branded, but my dad also has a HTC Desire from T-Mobile, and that one is non branded.. so maybe they can help me after all(hope so)
I also contacted HTC, to ask if i could send my phone to them to get rid of the curent version and reinstall the one before T-Mobile branded my phone.(if t-mobile agrees with that)
I dont think they will do that but i could try

Who is your provider? Are they saying send it back to be de branded or send it back to end the contract?

Are you guys from the US of A? If so i just read in the news today about some new law in the states which allows you to root your phone and it wont affect your warranty. But if you are from asia having a rooted phone is going to cause you problems. My friend just sent in his rooted nexus one and the htc service centre was giving him lots of problem for it.

[Q] can i send a rooted phone back to sprint?

I had to cash in my insurance policy on my htc evo, due to a shattered touch screen (it actually works) and a NON-functioning microusb port.. I received the new phone in the mail (it had the new ota update preinstalled, ) and they told me i have to send the old one back in 10 days....
fyi: I have a backup of the stock rom saved on my sd card as well.
My question(s) are:
Can i just send the ROOTED evo back with the stock rom? Will they even attempt to turn it on?
Is there a way to unroot without using a pc (i cant connect to pc due to malfuctioning microusb port)?
I obviously don't want to pay the 500 dollar fee for not returning the phone... so any thoughts or ideas?
any input would be greatly appreciated (i only have a few more days left to send it in). Thanks!
Yes, you can return it rooted and I doubt if they'd check, but I'm not certain. Beaides, you've already got the replacement in your possession. Of course, I recommend that you unroot your device and flash a RUU. You can download one of the zip RUUs from my signature. Keep in mind that if you have a radio that is newer than 2.15.00.11.19, you're going to have to downgrade to it or a prior one if you plan to use the unrevoked S-ON tool.
pecking & swyping from my EVO 4G (XDA Premium)
You can use wireless ftp to get the files to the SD card. You won't be able to run the RUU but you can flash a stock rooted image, then unroot and s=on from unrevoked (if you used unrevoked) You can also download wireless ADB to run adb commands as required.
Last week i had to return my evo to sprint and just got a refurbbed one.mine was rooted and i custom painted the battery compartment(i dont like the red).but i took it to a non-corporate repair center that does "light repair".they didnt even check for root access, ordered my phone, and i had it in 4 days due to the fact that evo's are on a backorder status.i just stuck my nand backup on there and let it ride.if in fact you have to take it to a corporate repair center, they may check for root, so be careful.it just depends on the store
You are sending your phone to Asurion, not Sprint. Asurion doesn't care if its rooted or not, its pretty much trashed anyway.
if you are taking your phone to a Sprint store, or doing an exchange with sprint, then yes, ABSOLUTELY unroot your phone. It literally takes 5 minutes, and could save your warranty from being voided.

I have taken my phone several times in the past month (many replacements were defective) to Sprint rooted and all and there was no problem.. The tech was even surprised to see that I had Gingerbread on my phone. Now, if a tech has a stick up his/her behind, then you may run into a problem. But in my experience, there hasnt been an issue.

Well then you got lucky. To the rest of us who deal with sprint stores with dumb technicians, we don't want to lose our warranty. It literally takes 5 minutes to unroot, its stupid not to do it.

The Sprint store people wouldn't even touch my rooted phone. The connection is bad in Charlotte, NC lately for no specific reason other than "network problems". I didn't know if it was my phone or something else. Well, I unrooted it so they would look at it. There was nothing wrong with the phone so I got it back and left. For reasons that escape my understanding, I just updated to the newest OTA. Now I'm stuck rootless until people more talented than myself figure out a way around this. They won't care at all about returning the phone rooted. My first EVO got messed up and after submitting the claim online at about 4:30PM, I had the new phone at my door by noon the next day.

I also had no issues bringing in a rooted phone (my wife's). It wouldn't charge via the usb port, and they just replaced it. No questions asked.
I also sent my rooted phone into Asurion (cracked screen) and no issues there (of course we all agree this is OK).
I would unroot it to be safe not sorry.

I want to repair my note 2 with warrenty screen and I got root

Check in ketan's thread.

First of all make sure the repair shop don't disassemble your phone otherwise you can say goodbye to your warranty. And rooting will be the least of your concerns.

If you read what he has written you will understand that his phone is at an unauthorized phone repair shop. Hence disassembling the phone anywhere else besides the authorized dealer voids the warranty.
U all got it in the wrong way I mean that my phone is have blue line and its not a dead pixel and my phome under 2 year warranty and my phone is under network provider named batelco and if they know that my phone is rooted they will cancel the warrenty for good my question is if I fully unrooted can they find that my device was on root?.

As long as you've unrooted successfully and your binary count is back to zero and the rom is fully stock then no they won't know.

[Q] T-Mo Warranty/Knox questions:

I am thinking about switching to T-Mobile, and am very interested in the Galaxy S4, due to it being the only major flagship in the form factor I am looking for with a removable battery and SD slot. Unfortunately, everything about Touchwiz makes me want to vomit, so running stock is not even remotely an option for me. My questions are as follows:
1) Is there any way to get T-Mo to give me a phone that has not yet received the 4.3 update, so as to avoid Knox altogether?
2) If this is not possible, how stringent is T-Mo about checking and enforcing the Knox counter for obviously unrelated hardware warranty issues?
3a) Worst case scenario, what is the insurance deductible for this phone?
3b) If a warranty claim is denied, would I still be able to make an insurance claim?
3c) How long will it likely take to have a new phone in my hand were I to make an insurance claim?
EDIT: Forgot to add one bit:
4) The VZW GS3 that I currently have is running CM11, and the flash counter has been tripped. Should I TriangleAway/relock/flash stock/unroot before giving it to T-Mo for a trade-in, or is it fine as is?
Well I'm new to the s4 but for your first question, I ordered my s4 online on Tuesday, got it today and it came with 4.2.2

1.- there's no for sure way to approach this it's a gamble, but I would guess that since u will be getting a brand new phone it will most likely come with the 4.2.2 but like I said it's a gamble, since T-mo reps cant open every box to find u a not updated phone
2.- I have exchanged phones with the flash counter triggered, ( NOT THE KNOX COUNTER THE OLDER VERSION) a t-mo rep never checked for that. They are more concerned about water damage than anything else.
3a- My deductible is $150 I would think it's the same all over.
3b.- yes u can always do a a insurance claim, I've done it.
3c it everything goes smoothly u will get a phone with in 24hrs... worse cases 48hrs.
4.- I would flash stock if I was you, no carrier likes it when people messes with their own devices LOL, but seriously flash stock and if u want do the triangle away while u at it.
I hope you enjoy your stay with t-mo, as much as at least I am!!!

I bought my S4 brand new at full price..it's been a lil over a week now, It came with 4.2.2 out of the box.
I have yet to root or do anything to it, though I'd like to be running 4.3 and have apps to sd ability. and still maintain the 4.2.2 bootloader

Sorry, but nothing can be done to help. Also XDA forums doesn't allow these kinds of discussions.
Return the phone to your friend and get your money back... If he/she is a real friend this shouldn't be an issue.
dang i will check a local phone shop that said they could do it . if it dont work that was my next plan . its a close friend so have no issue returning it to him . i just couldnt pass up when he offered it to me 200

I'm sure eventually it might even be restricted since it doesnt sound like hes going to pay it off with Sprint.. not worth the troubles imo.. even if u could find people to circumvent Sprints policies (can be considered fraud) they might charge an arm and a leg as well as Sprint could lock it again down the road due to unpaid balance on it.

We discourage members from posting about things like this. Yes there may be situations where someone gets screwed and bought a device that was either financed and sold, or reported stolen, or the person stole it and is asking for help to unlock it, etc. We have no way of knowing what is or isn't true so we just don't allow these types of discussions. That being said you have been given some options by some people here so there is no need to keep this thread going at all. Best of luck, thread closed.
