Helium, app backup without root? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone successfully get Helium to recognize the tab s 8.4 wifi (kit Kat). mine is not recognizing; pretty sure not a driver issue because adb works, and helium pc app recognize my Note 3.
on another thought, does anyone have other recommendation on app backup and restore without root? Thanks.

Both Google and Samsung provide native backup facilities already on the device.

I've been using Titanium Backup for years and I'm just now wondering if its functionalities can be achieved without root. I think Kies has an app backup option which I never tried. although I doubt it can be used to restore app backed up from another device (one of the features I need from TB).

[Q] [IRGENT] Need a lot of questions answered about unlocking the bootloader.

Hi, I have a few questions...
About Helium Backup..
If I use Helium to backup, how to I access my backup in internal storage? And if I wipe my device, do I keep the Helium backup? If not, then how do I access them before I wipe?
About unlocking the bootloader
Could I unlock the bootloader with wiping everything, then restore my backup with Helium, and then root? Or do I have to root then restore?
This is for the Nexus 7 by the way.
Lastly, is there a way to unlock the bootloader without wipe in a Nexus 7 (2013)?
Please, please please please PLEASE answer this, I want to root soo badly.

Helium backups will just be made to your internal storage (Unless you have the premium version) and these will NOT survive a wipe when unlocking the bootloader.
Connect up your Nexus to a PC and copy the Helium files to it for safekeeping... Or if that fails and you have an FTP Server program on your PC, FTP them to yourself, or use the Airdroid app etc....
IMPORTANT NOTE for Helium.... It may NOT work with everything....
I wanted to move some game backups between tablets and it is a bit hit and miss... For the main, it worked fine, but there are a handful of games I found it could not transfer progress. Quell and GTR Racing 2 spring to mind immediately.
Effectively the backup is successful, but restoration is not. However, it could be as I was moving from Tablet A to Tablet B (albeit both Nexus 7's) that what cocked up these particular games....

I think you can do it either way to be honest, although you may as well root whilst unlocking the bootloader and installing a Custom recovery etc....
At least that way you don't have to activate Helium with your PC as it doesn't need this step once rooted.

Backup and Restore

Hello,
I am a screen issue with my Note 4 that requires me to replace my unit. In the past I have usually used TWRP to create a backup and they restore my phone on the new device. This note 4 is non rooted and does not have a custom recovery install. What would be the best method to perform a backup and restore where it either takes a current snapshot of my files, settings and applications so I can avoid redoing everything on my replacement unit? Thanks.
I *think* the best option is to use Helium but I'm not sure how much it'll backup without being rooted. I'll leave this for other people to chime in but I think you can looking at that app as well as "My Backup Pro".

I use Backup Message & Call to Email by Lucky Dog from the Google Play store (it is FREE). This can backup your call history and SMS/MMS messages either instantly or on demand. You can then restore them to a new phone.
You can also set up your photos to backup to Google+ (either automatically or on demand).
There are a lot of sync options using Google and you android phone that make it a breeze to switch from phone to phone.

Does Kies also back up app settings?
I'm looking for something to at least use until we can get root again and use Titanium.
Kies has come a long way since v1. I hated kies up until v2.5 but since then it doesn't freeze up nor eat all the available ram on your computer while running.
Kies is the best backup system available for nonrooted sammy phones.

Backup and transfer files to OP3 with no root

Hello everyone!
I will get my OP3 next week and i would like transfer all my app data from my non rooted phone. I have tried helium in the past, but it didn't work properly and titanium will not work because i have no root.
Do you have any suggestions which software can do that?
Cheers

Move from unrooted to One Pluis 3... Smart Switch alternative

Is there a Titanium/Smart switch alternative that actually transfers everything? I found Helium but haven't really messed with it, this is my first time coming from a fully stock phone (Root is not available to me )

In my opinion, helium sucks... titanium is by far the best application when it comes to backing up and restoring data. Why can't you root??? It took me 5 minutes to root and install twrp. Or do you mean you can't root your old phone to create the backups?

I cannot root my old phone to create the backups, and Titanium no longer works at all on non rooted. It is an S7 so just plain not rootable.

Mybackup pro, should work to transfer data between your s7 and oneplus, can't guarantee transfer of all app data but it certainly helps.

Thanks man I will give it a shot when my op3 gets here, not sure when to expect it at this point it is in Cincinnati according to shipping heh.
Yeah, I second that. MyBackup works great with non-profit. However, it will not backup system apps.

Is it possible to root without losing data?

Is it possible to root this device without losing data? If not, is there a way to backup device without root?
I tried helium but it doesnt have permission to backup most of my apps!
Use Samsung smartswitch or Samsung cloud to back up and restore.

Thanks for your reply. Does it do a complete backup? With all apps?it looks like it will only backup samsung apps. Have you tried it?
Yes I've used both smart switch and restoring from the cloud, but it has been a while since I did either so details may have changed.
Best option is to use smartswitch and back up to sd card. I usually would back up to Samsung cloud as security, but I'm not sure that's still an option?
I would extract any apks you have installed that aren't available on google play market and save to sd card. I can't remember how smart switch works, it *may* restore from market links - not sure.
Once you've done your rooting, fire up smartswitch on fresh machine, and restore from sd card.
I have tried Helium and TiBu years ago on another rooted device, but found smartswitch fresher and reliable.
