Fire TV stick help EDIT: DONT EVER SHUT OFF BLUETOOTH AND ADB! - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'll start by saying I'm a dummy. I shut off bluetooth in the settings.apk and have no way to control the stick now. ADB must be turned off because I can't seem to control it with the utility app. Anyway to fix this? I tried using usb devices with otg y cable but it doesn't work. The device isn't rooted. Thanks.
Edit: Read some more, yup I'm screwed.

It seems like bluetooth always comes back on by itself when I turn it off. Did you reboot? Do you have XBMC/Kodi installed? Try using an XBMC/Kodi remote app like Yatse and open the settings app through Kodi with the Yatse remote and see if that works. Yatse will find your Kodi if it is on the same network and auto connect. If you don't know how to open apps through Kodi let me know.

Oh I just remembered, the Fire TV remote app. Go to the play store on you phone and search "fire TV" the remote app should be near the beginning of the search results, install it. Reboot your stick then connect. IIt will auto find your device if its on the same network.

Thanks! I thought that was a bluetooth app.

Nope its a wifi app. If you would have taken 30 seconds to read the app description you would have known it was a wifi app.

I'm sorry you have mental instability. I thanked you and you slammed me for an innocent mistake.
How do you go from such a helpful reply to a smashing?

I did not slam you at all. I simply said if you would have read the description you would have known it was a wifi app. There is no other way to say that. Its not my fault that you can not handle the truth Just because someone is honest it does not mean they are being mean. If I tell you not to touch fire because it will burn you, it means not to touch fire, and if someone tells you to read something so that you will know what it is, then it means you should read it. Thats not being mean in the least. You can take it howw you want, but I was actually being nice.

That works.

Happened to a few of us before and will happen to many others in the future. The Wukong Romote(I believe it's misspelled on the playstore on purpose) app works well to provide mouse control if you happen to disable bluetooth by accident.

Optimum App

I was hoping to load the Optimum app on my Fire TV, to see if I could watch TV from it. I tried installing the version from Google Play, but it launched in portrait mode, then said "this display is not supported" and exited.
I was thinking the Kindle Tablet Edition of the app might work, but I can't find the apk.
Has anyone gotten this to install successfully? If not, would anyone be able to help me fine the Kindle Tablet Edition of the app and I'll try myself?
Thanks!

I tried to force landscape, but it still didn't work.
You can get Optimium 4.1 on aptoide and it is in landscape, but since the Fire TV uses HDMI it considers it an external display and Optimum does not support external displayes. So it does not work, and if you look at the list of apps that do work and do not work on the Fire TV, Optimum is on the list of apps that do not work on the Fire TV.
---------- Post added at 08:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:08 PM ----------
Had to write another post, cause I do not wanna be stuck on 666 post. Optimum does not work on any device that uses an external dissplay, including the laptop version. Kinda sucks, but a lot of apps are still like that. I remember for the longest time Crackle and Netflix would not let you use an external display, and I think the other companies that still restrict you from using external displays will never change their policy, cause if they haven't done it yet they probably never will. The companies that still block external displays are almost always media streaming companies, cause they wanna lock their stuff down, cause they are afraid you will share it with another person, which keeps them from getting tat persons money too. If someone elses eyes are on what your eyes are on, its bad for their business.

I can verify that it works great on the newest Amazon Firestick!!! Starts off in portrait, but when you click on a show to watch, it automatically converts to landscape. You do need a bluetooth keyboard with a mouse pad to move the little circle and to choose what you want. You can actually move the mouse to the right side of the screen and click on "quick guide" and you can see what's on and double click what you want to watch. It's not perfect. The quality is a little below what you would normally get with a cable box, but it works. It also pauses for about 13 seconds in the beginning, but then works great. After about an hr, a pop up comes up asking if you are still there. You just need to click on yes with your wireless mouse pad and the video will continue.
Hope this helps.

I'm guessing your fire is connected via wifi? I just tried and I get an error "No Wi-Fi Connection You must be on Wi-Fi to stream video content". I'm connected via the ethernet port.

I think it is a left over restriction from older cell streaming quality and data limits. The apps are told to look for WiFi only and I don't think the devs bother to even consider a wired option because they mainly concentrate on phones. I was able to turn on USB Ethernet on the Visual Land 7D and a tone of games and apps couldn't see it and would ask for Wifi including Play.

Thanks! Also, could you please indicate, how you played the link from XBMC? I tried to open an Acestream link from SportsDevil but it did not work for me.
I got Acestreams to work inside of xbmc on ouya with p2p addon but it kept crashing the Acestream on the play store wants to update so that one never connected however I installed the latest version of the APK and it worked for a day then all of a sudden the Acestream Engine app was crashing immediately on open and was bugging out my XBMC so I had to uninstall. If anyone finds a good version that will not try to update and is let me know Thanks

Maybe you can try to connect to a Wi-Fi network that doesn't necessarily have internet like a router plugged into wall only, then have both Ethernet and Wi-Fi both connected to Amazon fire.

So does the app work pretty well with keyboard and mouse good quality etc?
Any update on this now that the firetv has been rooted? Or has anyone modified the app yet?
If this was iOS it would be easy to solve as there are a half dozen tweaks to fool apps into thinking your on wifi. Surely there must be something similar on Android.
I'll check when I get home.

Ah, so something does exist! I'm completely new to Android so my knowledge of Android tweaks is limited.
I will give a try.
I side loaded the Xfinity app before root and it works "ok". Using a mele pro air mouse, I can get around the app pretty well. The only thing I notice, which I think I read someone on here before, is that there is some frame rate issues. The video doesnt seem to be 100% smooth, especially on live tv.
Anyone else notice this?

Well I can confirm the xposed fake wifi module works with the xfinity app to trick it to work over the lan. However with that module activated there is some weird stuff going on with the firetv gui, it bounces around the menu a bit. If I select say prime video it'll jump down to music, it's pretty weird.

After seeing this thread, I found one in my area on sale for about 12 bucks. After it charges, I will try it out on the fire stick, and come back and report. The controller has a built in mouse function that you activate with the flip of a switch. So, if the fire tv stick can pick up the controller on bluetooth, then in theory it might work. I'll be back later with findings.

Yes, a Gamestop up the road from me had two left. I have the setting.apk succesfully installed as well, so as soon as the thing charges up, I will give it a go. And if it does not work...oh well, just 12 bucks. I will say that I have read reports of a few wireless bluetooth mouses working with the setting.apk as well. Sadly, I do not know the brands, and I have tried a few mouse apps on my android phone via bluetooth, but since they are asking for a pin, it does not seem to work. Any bluetooth device that asks for a pin it seems, is destined to fail.

Also please let us know how the controller feels for playing games. I know it won't be as good as any console controllers but for $13 as long as they don't break down to quickly they should be fine..

The Nyko gamepad mouse function works on the Fire TV stick. Do not try and connect the controller through the Fire TV stick settings, do it through the setting menu from the setting.apk. Make sure the controller is on (had it set to gamepad mode), then click the option that allows you to search for bluetooth compatible devices under bluetooth settings. It should pick it up pretty easily. Once it is selected and setup, change the gamepad to mouse mode, and then you can use the apps that require the touch/mouse function. Right now, I am running a sideloaded directtv app.
After I load a game, I'll come back with more intel, but the Nyko gamepad works like a charm so far.

Awesome... Will wait for your gaming feedback... I went ahead & put a few on hold for 48 hours... Since most stores in my area only have 1 in store. Thanks to their Holidays Return Policy we got until Jan. 15 to return. If anything is defective or one does not like it. But wonder what will they do since they not longer will carry them. Hopefully Refund. But I hope they are good enough... Should be great to get 3 of the Nyko's for the price of one of the Amazon controllers.. And that is with extra features.
I myself will be trading in a bunch of games I've put off trading in. So I should be able to get 3-4 for just the trade-in credits.

This app works great for Showbox, Popcorntime, browsers, it has mouse mode. Only thing missing is qwerty keyboard, but I just switch over to fire remote app when that is needed.

Interesting app... You just have to know your FTV's IP to tell them apart. The app needs more complete translation of it. Odd how it installs itself on the FTV.. But easy... The go back button doesn't seem to work on most instances. Just ended hitting home. Since I do have root on my FTV's.. It did kept asking me to grant it SuperSU status.. Not sure why.. I Denied it... Probably will still go with the Nyko Game Pad Pro but this is a good backup.. But I don't trust it just yet... Uninstalled it for now...

Alright, as far as I can tell, it is impossible to root the fire tv stick as of yet. Hopefully someone comes up with a way. I'll just drop some instructions from the beginning and add a few resources for people starting fresh. I uploaded the settings.apk I used, so be sure to grab that from this post. Before I get too far into this, everything I have done is with a stock Fire TV stick and Nyko gamepad controller straight out of the box, and anything done to the fire stick is listed below.
On the fire tv stick, make sure under settings that the adb debugging and allowing outside apps are enabled. As for getting the settings.apk to the stick itself, just follow the instructions found here: sideloadfiretv.com/sideload-apps-amazon-fire-tv-windows/
(Being a new user, I cannot link that, so I apologize for the inconvenience)
Once that is loaded, go to Settings>Applications>Manage Installed Applications. Find the settings app, launch it, and go to the bluetooth menu option. Click it, and up at the top right hand corner, you will see an option that will allow you to search for bluetooth devices. Make sure that the nyko remote is charged, turned on, and set in the gamepad function before clicking that option. Once you have the gamepad set up, click the option to search for bluetooth devices, it may take a minute. Once it picks it up, enable it in the menu, and you should be good to go.
I did not change any functions on the controller itself. This is the stock Nyko gamepad controller straight out of the box. You will be able to switch it back and forth between the controller and mouse functions, and both work. The only thing I have found is that when entering user names and passwords on apps, keep the stick remote next to you, as it is generally easier to use that to enter the names/passwords/etc. I have successfully navigated and watched stuff from the DirecTv, Funimation (though this app is still a little funky to navigate, it works), and Xfinity sideloaded apps.
As far as games, my kids are playing Sonic 2 with the controller currently, and there are no issues with it. It works great. Just remember to turn it on and off when using it and not using it, since it has a chargeable battery.
Sorry Y314K, I am sure that this is far more more information that you originally wanted/needed, but I figured I better start from the beginning, so newbies reading this will have all the tools they need to make it work.
Hope this helps!

Phone as a mouse, FireTV Stick?

Is it possible to run a program like droidmote without root, to control the sideloaded apps with touch features?
Also trying to get a bluetooth Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 to connect. Installed Settings.apk. Can detect it, but can't pair it.
Not without root.
I bought one of those Nyko tablet game pads for mine, the Stick natively supports the Nyko game pad, and it has a mouse mode.

Is it possible to run a program like droidmote without root, to control the sideloaded apps with touch features?
Also trying to get a bluetooth Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 to connect. Installed Settings.apk. Can detect it, but can't pair it.

I use Yatse to control XBMC with no issues on my s3 Samsung, Remote IME seems to work for everything else.
I am unsure of the mouse, I can use my Logitech keyboard for full control and browser work though. hope this helps

Not without root.
I bought one of those Nyko tablet game pads for mine, the Stick natively supports the Nyko game pad, and it has a mouse mode.

Not true anymore. Try this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wukongtv.wkremote.client.en
Has some translation issues (seems to be a Chinese app). Install on your phone and when you open it and connect it will automatically install the client on your ftv (or at least it did on my rooted box with play store access). Seems to have both navigation controls and mouse mode. Worked well for me in my ftv (have not tried on ftv sticks yet, mine won't be here until Tuesday).

I'm pretty weary of Chinese apps.
How are you using remote ime? This is only thing i could find in under that name. http://www.mygica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9&p=9
Tried scanning and manually entering ip and nothing.
Don't know about the Chinese app, doesn't look like it has a touchpad feature for using it as a pointer for touch controls that fire stick remote can't do. Joystick an option even though the stick isn't a game machine. Wantd to use something i already have if possible.
I haven't had any luck connecting anything Bluetooth. Monoprice Bluetooth headphones and sound brick show as detected but never play audio. Mouse detects but doesn't pair.
That Nyko gamepad works perfectly (as a gamepad and as a mouse), and if you go to the game controllers part of Settings you'll see Amazon mentions Nyko specifically, that controller is fully supported from the factory on the Fire Stick.

The Chinese app definitely can function as a mouse. Press the square in the upper right corner and select mouse module.

Keep in mind I'm talking about the stick, there is no root for it yet. At least not a software root. If I had root, could install droidmote.

I get my fire TV sticks tonight so I will be testing it out. On my fire TV I didn't have to do anything but open the app on my phone and it displayed the ip of my ftv. When I selected it it installed the server automatically on the ftv.

Has anyone been able to get mouse clicks to work with WKremote, the chinese app, on the Fire TV Stick? I have no problem getting a mouse pointer and I'm able to move it around, but not able to click on anything. I've tried placing the pointer on the object i want to click on, then switching to gesture mode but that doesn't seem to work either.
I'm trying to use it on the Time Warner app and I need to be able to click different options. I also tried to click on something in XBMC with no luck.
Any suggestions?

Works fine for me. Just tap the screen while in mouse mode. I think the fire can be somewhat finicky on what you can click on when in the amazon interface

Thanks. I figured thats how it should be working, but it wasn't for me. I'll try reinstalling it again to see if that does anything.
Is there an app for iOS folks. Dont see Wukong ?
Issues connecting to FireTV Stick
Anyone else having problems connecting to the FireTV Stick. When I open up the app it will search and see the FireTV and shows the correct IP, when I click it to connect it shows fail to initialize and brings me to some help section ( that clearly I do not understand)
Any info would be nice, perhaps there is an issue with the router I am using, uPnP is disabled or something? I just received my new router recently belkin ac1200 and I am not sure if that is the cause.
The Wukon app works for me on the FireTV Stick, but it's super slow. Mouse is jumpy, and inputs are sometimes delayed by 2-3 seconds.
I didn't install anything on the stick to support it, it just worked.
I am interested in how it works more if anyone has any English resources. Pretty cool how it puts up a notification on the FireTV Stick.

Fire TV remote app and changing Wi-Fi

I'm on my way to the Outer Banks for a week at the beach. I have my fire stick but forgot my remote. I've checked stores to get a replacement remote or compatible bluetooth controller, but no luck. I have a possible solution, but not sure if it would work. Let me know what you think.
I setup the hotspot on my phone to mirror my home network. I already know I can fool my fire stick to think I'm online. Then I can use my wife's phone with the Fire TV remote app to pair with the Fire stick.
The problem comes with connecting with the Wi-Fi network when we'll be staying. It's password-protected. The remote app will only work as long as I'm connected to my phone's hotspot. Will the Fire stick stay connected long enough for me to enter the password, or will it disconnect the second I click the preferred network?
Does anyone else have any other suggestions? Is there any way to manually learn the network and password before connecting to it using adb? Anybody?

If you have an Android phone with IR, something like "AnyMote" should. There are several ir remote emulators.

Fire Stick (or Fire TV) don't work off IR. They use Bluetooth.

if the tv you will have the firetv stick connected to is HDMI Cec compliant, make sure it's enabled on the tv, and you can use the tv's remote to operate the firetv stick.

Your simple solution is to plug in a USB mouse to the box and click away! Hope it helps... Thx

Oh, I like the Phone Manager app will all the extra features it brings to the table, but I have to disable it because otherwise apps will get closed in the background even if I have them set as "Protected".
So if it worked properly then I would be all for it

I don't have this issue unless I press the swipe to close (or close all) as long as I set them as protected. Imo Huawei just needs to fix/disable the swipe to close protected apps. It's also how the app is written and if it has a consistent notification setup because some apps do not get killed regardless of swiping up. Example is Alarm Clock xTreme.
The only thing I really wish I had control of in Phone Manager with Stock unrooted is Networked Apps and Permissions controls for system apps which is purposely disabled and is annoying. Perhaps AJ @ajsmsg78 will come up with a simple solution for this
In general though, it is great and I love being able to restrict permissions on the fly!

1. Can't use a use mouse. Repeat, Fire STICK.
2. I was successful with the app. I connected to my hotspot, then used the app to connect to the beach house, and I was able to enter the Wi-Fi password with the app. Then I just had to reconnect my device to the Wi-Fi and use the app with the preferred network.
Too bad the network sucks. Who uses DSL anymore?
