Old Windows Mobile Devices support/ X50V / HTC Universal etc - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Would someone give me some support with old WM devices?
I need some ROM support and maybe some people who like to have these devices back alive. Like me
Actually I have a lot devices, new ones and old ones. Currently I'm trying to get the old devices back to work. I don't really care for fastest gadgets as I only use my Mipad like once a month and my iPhone 6+ only for playing music.
Is there anyone who feels the same?

touch pro 2 running android???

is it possible to flash a android rom on the touch pro 2??? would be nice to have the hero rom on my touch pro 2 idk if its even possible
Yeah if you want to brick your phone then go ahead
You should give it to someone who wants it so bad
Dude Android is a different OS with a completely different architecture.
You may be able to port Android functions to Windows Mobile if someone is willing to do it, but it's impossible to use Android on WinMo *yet*.

I think he talks about running it nativelz on the phone...
I don|t know if you can think of a phone like a pc, but basically shouldnt it be possible to run android on the Rhodium with the right drivers and the right SPL ??
im just saying it would be nice i know its a diffrent os and i cant think of it as a pc but it all really is made by htc if u think about it if someone were able to find a way i would gladly run it on my touch...i realized when i hard reseted my phone it was very similar to when flashing the g1 thats y i asked
And don't forget they both run on the same Qualcomm MSM7200A. Making the supposition that they can be ported more plausible.
It's been ported quite nicely for the Vogue so I don't see why it couldn't be ported for the TP2. I think it just needs a dedicated dev team and a big enough user base to make it worthwhile... I'd definitely be interested in seeing that project come to light!

Yes I have a vogue (Winmo device) and have been using Android exclusively on it for the last month or so - it's fantastic! The reason I lurk in the TP2 thread is hoping Android gets ported over - I love the TP2 and its high on my "want" list but can't go back to Winmo - hopefully Android isn't too far off.
I would pay for it...
Seriously, by donation or actually having to pay for it I would have no issue forking out some dough for android on my TP2. As long as i had all the functions like wifi, 3g, bluetooth, etc. My concern is that the phone may run slower with the higher resolution screen but then again the g1 doesnt run at max cpu speeds on a stock build so maybe running it overclocked(max speed) can help. The battery life on my tp2 is wayyyy better than my g1 so if running the core faster is needed i feel the battery could keep up at least on the level of the g1. Also the additional ram may help too. Its strange how even people who dont know much about phones keep asking if i am gonna run android on it. I love my TP2 but its the hardware I love and the os is good but unless the winmo marketplace gets up an running the momentum android has is just too attractive.

I agree. I would love to have Sense UI on my TP2 once I get it. I hate WinMo, the only reason I'm getting the TP2 is because it's such a siiiick device
I'm happy to find out that I am probably not the only person who fell in love with the device after demo'ing one from the T-Mobile store. I have used windows mobile since about 3 devices ago, got a G1, currently running Sense-UI and loving it!! If the Touch Pro 2 could port an android build over with enough Developer support it could easily be done, just as all the rom flashing we never though would be possible for the G1 but ended up doing daily =) Spread the word and keep asking for developer support, don't be afraid to flash a little cash to make it worth their time, and the community will push it in the right direction
NO!!!DO NOT RUN ANDRIOD ON YOUR TOUCH PRO 2. This is totally different with its own os and that will destroy your phone....
Guinea Pig.
I dont mind being the guinea pig with my TP2 if someone can come up with a way of running android on it. I have a g1 I can use in the mean time. I would even consider a temporary phone donation if this gets some serious attention. Of course I would need it back eventually lol.

Uhm, no? Android runs through HARET, which you run from WinMO, then it closes down WinMO so that Android is the only OS running... and it runs off your SD-card. I have android on my old ELF, and I've ****ed up the install so many times, I dunno' what to do anymore, haha. Phone works fine.

Oh, so this is how the Android runs on the phone. I was under the illusion that I have to delete winmo for the running of android.....(I should learn more about that....)
Interesting, I had a G1 and loved Android. I would pay/donate money to the cause. It's worth a shot with the TP2.
I would love to see this too. I have been using a G1 for the past year and love Android. I just ordered a TP2 however, but would really like to get Android on it eventually.
+1 i would love this aswell
I've been thinking about starting the port (have to wait until the 26th to get my TP2 sadly) for Android. Not great with coding but good enough to make tweaks and such to the linux kernel. If there are any others who are interested, maybe we should get together and get the ball rolling? The TP version should work on the TP2 (same hardware underneath still) with the exception of the screen and CPU. Anyway, if anyone here is good at coding for Linux/hardware/IO/etc, please shoot me an email/PM! Don't really have a need for guinea pigs yet since anything we do will need to be tested right away, not whenever the next guinea pig is available

Toshiba E-800, old device, no hope?

Well I see there is a lot of support for HP iPaq PDAs, even the very old ones. I used the search function but to no avail.
I'm just wondering if its even remotely possible to upgrade this thing to windows mobile 5 at least.
I've seen hints when app websites try to recognize the device..they recognize it as a generic device and in brackets they put (iPaq "model number" and another brand).
Is it possible that a ROM for another brand might work with the e800?
I love the device...it was handed down to me and I've been trying to use it to its full potential..and I've seen equal spec'd devices operating at higher OS versions. Is it just lack of popularity?
Thanks. I know I'm a newbie and asking for a lot...

I had two E800s and loved the bright large VGA screens and the connectability. But after reburning their ROMs to the latest WM2003SE version they started to lose their ROM images and kept needing to be reburned. The good news is that it forced me on to WM5 and WM6 devices. The E800s (even if they had survived) would never have been able to be upgraded to WM5 mainly because they stored almost all user data and programs in volatile RAM memory. The E800 had a small amount of user writable ROM, but not enough to carry the whole new WM5 operating system. They also needed a backup battery to stop loss of all user data when the main battery failed or ran out. The newer WM5 and WM6 devices do not need such a battery. In summary, it is actually impossible to upgrade.
Having now had two WM5 and WM6 devices as replacements, also VGA screens, it is well worth changing device. Shame, as the E800s were beautiful and rugged high performance devices!

thats an HD2 not an TP2, HD2 is the only device from HTC which will be official compatible with WM 7.
because WM7 needs a capacitive tochscreen it will not work on TP2.

hi realy dont think so since wm7 needs a captive screen and needs all the hardware like hd2 manely or tp2 cant handle this

Haha, I hope they will release TP3 in time with WP7 I'm also curious about the dual core snapdragon processors which are announced with the end of this year

When I had the T-Mobile Wing they said we could not get WM6.5 and now thanks to XDA we have it. Now I have the TP2 and even though the screen doesn't support some of the command I would not be surprized if there was success in getting WM7 onto this phone (limited in functionality and may be very slow). At any rate I will be getting the HD2 on March 24 when it comes out to T-Mobile.

IMHO, the GUI is not that complex that you really need complex hardware. If MS really wanted, i believe it could run on a TP2 too (even with multitouch). 529Mhz is not that slow. And your TP2 has OPENGL 1.1? hardware which is not really used very well.
But like MS said, they put a lot of work to let the hardware and software work really together. Which in other words they say you need to buy new hardware (faster CPU, OPENGL 2.0; base ram 512MB)
Even now it could technically run on HD2, the HD2 device is not officially compliant with the 3 hardware buttons a Win7 mobile device needs (back, start , search). I wonder how to map the search button.
Let's only hope!
I am sure that if someone can get the current ROMs for the HD2, which are technically designed for a capacitive screen, to work on the TP2, I would bet money that someone will be able to port it over and make it work. We won't really know until stuff starts getting leaked. That would be great though. I would really like to give WP7 a test run before dumping $500 on a new phone!!
TP2 will be able to run WP7 (maybe there might be problems with OpenGL ES 2.0 missing). The right question is - will MS make BSP for it? I highly doubt it.

Yep me too. Although i'm gonna ditch my TP 2 as soon as I get confirmation of WM7 running on the hd2.
I saw somewhere that Windows Phone 7 will require a 1ghz processor. The HD2 has that and the Touch Pro 2 doesn't.
If someone does get Windows Phone 7 ported over, it's likely going to run a little slowly.
don't forget mandatory 4 point multitouch... that might be a problem for full functionality.
I seem to remember the guy who introduced WM7 (WPS7) saying something about the 7 series being slated for all manner of new phones including those with and without keyboards (I think he made reference to phones similar to BBs with keyboards on the face of the phones)...So unless the price of processors comes down significantly I really don't think every new phone running this 7 series OS will meet such demanding base requirements (1GHz processor, capacitive multitouch screens etc., etc.).
YES!

Touch Pro Series The Best Option HTC have!
according to several websites like: http://www.redmondpie.com/htc-hd2-to-get-windows-mobile-7-upgrade-9140128/ the HD2 will get windows mobile 7. but TP2 will most likely be up to the devs here at the XDA if they can do it. My feelings are that if they can get android going on TP2 (so far so good) then they can do windows mobile 7.
In my opinion, our devices are transition devices, most of us are waiting/hoping for a TP3 better than HD2, or at least with similar specifications as the HD2.
TP2 runs WP7, but it reminds me of my old Artemis with WM65 and TF2D, .
We´ll see it coming soon.
Cheers.
i have a blue angel runnign wm 6.5 so anything is possible especially if there is enough interest.
I understand why the move makes sense for MS but personally from what I've seen of WM7 I'm in no hurry for it to get here. Now if i could get my TP2 with a 1ghz cpu i might look at it but until the smart guys here at XDA figure out how to get past WM7's limitations i'm not in any rush to give up what I have.
It might be able to run it, but Microsoft and HTC aren't going to release anything needed to make an unofficial port happen. Sorry, but it's extremely likely that the TP2 is not going to get WM7, officially or otherwise.
And to everyone who always cites the example of Windows Mobile 6.5 running on an old device, I hate to break it to you but it's not that easy when dealing with WM7. Windows Mobile 7 is based off the Windows CE 6.0 kernel, while Windows Mobile 5 and 6.x are powered by the same CE 5.2 kernel, making a port of WM 6.x to a WM5 device pretty easy. It's much more difficult when you have a different kernel with from an OS that doesn't support most of your hardware, as it means someone has to create a BSP themselves.
No multi-tasking = No dice for me! It'd be like a downgrade! Loving my TP2 with Deep Shining Rom. I use my phone for a whole manner of things, usually business orientated. If I wanted the type of phone the Windows mobile 7 looks like it's gonna introduce, I would've bought an IPhone!

Run Android on WinMo 7

I have followed XDA for quite some time and have been waiting for someone to get a little bored with android like myself and start the modding of the new WinMo 7 phones to run both Android and WinMo 7. I can't find anything on it. Is it just not possible (yet)??? I know the devices can handle it...1ghz, 16gb internal, plenty of memory...Vibrant, etc. Seems like the perfect device for a dual boot Eclair/Froyo and WinMo 7. Windows Mobile 6x running Android is old and the 1st one I did was the Tytn II by HTC. Slow, but it was still nice to have both.
Any Devs out there wanna push this? I'll buy hardware and do any tests wanted. Seems Samsung specs are pretty equal between the Vibrant and Focus or even like the port of Android to the HD2...can it be done using the HD7 from T-Mo?
In the case of Samsung, why wouldn't you just get the Captivate (Galaxy S)? Already has Android. The Focus is basically the same phone...

why start from ZERO when HD2 is already running Android pretty smoothly and will be getting wp7 soon? Not to bash or anything but wp7 may not be as easy to tinker with as compared to wm6.

Cheap Phone For LineageOS

Hello,
I was looking for recommendations on a cheap phone to get started with trying out custom OS's and maybe serving as a backup phone. I found a Blu Advance L5 on Amazon for ~$40, but it looks like it isn't compatible with LineageOS and some of the other builds. Not looking for a daily driver, just something to test things out with. Thanks!

I'd recommend looking for a used Google Pixel phone. The 4 and 5 series still has a lot of custom ROM support, including LineageOS. (Google has ended support for the pre-4 models, so I'd stay away from those. Some developers may still be able to eke out some support for them still, but it's not guaranteed.)

Other than what @MJPollard said, you can check also this:

And make sure it is common enough, so support doesn't stop suddenly:

Thank you both. Any thoughts on something like a Nokia 6.1 or Motorola phones (i.e. something sub $100)?

IMHO, anything that's sub-$100 probably isn't going to be supported for very long. You could get one of those phones, only to find out that it'll never go beyond Android 12 (LineageOS 19.1), or might even be stuck on earlier versions due to the lack of any further software support for the hardware (i.e. kernel and driver updates, which are essential). That's why phones like the Pixel are often good choices, as they'll usually be supported with new Android versions (both officially and unofficially) for a lot longer than the el-cheapos. You may have to pay a few dollars more, but you'll be better off in the long run. (Personally, I've had OnePlus phones for the last few years. First the 3T, then the 7 Pro, and now the 9 Pro. Probably not a choice for you as you're looking for something cost-effective, but OnePlus generally has an excellent shelf life even after official support ends... at least, it did until the OnePlus 10 series, but that's a subject for a different thread. )
