Your Favorite ROMs and Tweaks - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The HTC One M8 has been out just a little over a year now and it still competes with the latest flagship devices. Obviously this is an amazing device and outside of nexus devices it is my favorite phone of all time. I'm curious what most users think are the best Roms and tweaks for this device.
Tweaks:
For me...
MultiRom is a must. I got this phone roughly two months ago and fell in love with the device and as I'm a flashaholic MultiRom was an inevitability. Multi is definitely one of my favorite features of this phone and really android as a whole. Who would have thought years ago that we'd be dual booting cellphones?
Viper4Android is also a must for me. I own 3 pairs of higher end headphones; Sony MDR SA5000s, Beats By Dre Studio v2, and Sennheiser HD558 (I recently broke these) and V4A complements an audiophile with or without the BoomSound/HarmonKardon Tweak. V4A is another must for me especially when running AOSP builds.
-Small note: a newer audio tweak had made its way onto the android scene and I've found it compliments v4a quite well.
eXtreme Beats has no GUI or any settings, though it does have optional downloadable profiles for v4a that are pretty nice. In my experience eXtreme Beats on its own is fantastic and used in combination with v4a it definitely improves on even v4a's greatness. It should be noted that at the moment eXtreme doesn't seem to work with BoomSound or HarmonKardon...
OGYouTube, Material Messaging, and AdAway are three well known apps that aren't really tweaks but personal preferences I have to recommend.
Roms: I'm going to separate these into Sense based and AOSP/GPE
Sense:
as far as sense goes I feel like sense is light years ahead of touchwiz but it's still not my preferable framework. I think sense is cool and I can see why people enjoy it... Its just not my preference... That being said there are some sense Roms I enjoy.
ViperOne By Team Venom is, in my opinion, the best sense based ROM for the m8. I've followed team venom for awhile off and on and I used to not enjoy their work... Boy was I wrong. They've definitely stepped their game up over the years and have really taken custom sense Roms to an incredible level. The amount of customization they bring to the table is insane and they've brought a cm/aosp feel to sense that I never thought would happen. Again as far as sense Roms go theirs is my favorite.
LeeDrOiD: a close second...
The self proclaimed most senior sense ROM developer has created an awesome custom sense ROM. While his customization isn't quite as advanced as Team Venoms this is one man doing the work of the entire Venom Team and LD comes in a close second in my eyes. Both roms make sense a lot more tolerable (for me) and both deserve an immense amount of respect and admiration.
It should be noted that I dislike sense 7 and for the time being prefer sense 6 to 7 mainly because the amount of customization on 7 isn't yet up to par with 6.
AOSP/GPE: My personal preference...
I'm not going to comment on GPE. I'm on Verizon and I think DH has done a great job porting GPE to our CDMA devices... I just other the aosp feel to GPE.
There are an immense number of AOSP Roms but I'm only going to cover a few of my favorites.
(Newly Official!) PACman (Lollipop 5.1.1)
I'm somewhat biased as I fell in love with PAC when it was released on Jellybean. There have been several Roms that have combined pieces of what we love about some of the major custom Roms but I feel no one has ever done it as well as the devs at PAC. Combining (P)aranoidAndroid(A)OKP(C)yanogenMod PAC brings with it some of the best features of the big three. It also seems to have the best implementation of HeadsUp Notifications that I've seen on any aosp ROM including the newest PA builds. It also looks like we will soon be getting nightly builds now that we've got official support... Definitely my favorite aosp ROM... Really my favorite ROM period.
Dirty Unicorns(Lollipop 5.1.1)
I've started repeatedly that there is a big difference between compiling a build and actually developing. Many people are able to compile CyanogenMod and cherry pick features... Actual development (like PA did with PIE) is a different thing all together. We're lucky here on the m8 to have a developer who's building DU and creating some unique development. DU has several unique features and is an all around great build based off OmniRom. Probably my third favorite AOSP/CM style ROM.
SOKP (Sonic Open Kang Project: Lollipop 5.1.1):
SOKP has a ton of features and is built off of CyanogenMod. Like many of the other cherry picks its extensive amount of features are awesome and is definitely one of the more stable AOSP builds. This ROM also has the best sound quality (stock after install) of any AOSP build for the m8. The developer has put an immense amount of time in attempting to correct the sound issues plaguing AOSP/CM on the m8. Probably my second favorite m8 ROM.
AND LASTLY...
Lollipop Dream CyanogenMod (***Currently Lollipop 5.0*** hopefully we will see 5.1 soon):
This is pure CyanogenMod 12 built off Linaro toolchain with a few fixes and .odex'd for speed. While I prefer the current nightly builds to this rom, once the developer updates to 5.1 this will certainly be on my phone. Compared to raw cm these lollipop dream builds are much smoother and quicker. Definitely one of the best raw cm builds I've seen on any device.
Honorable Mention: (Official) Paranoid Android (Lollipop 5.1.1):
Paranoid Android is very well known and for me their latest official build is flawless. Others, however, have had cell signal issues and other small bugs with it. I love PA for their great innovation they've brought to the android community but unfortunately they are lacking a few small features that most lollipop builds have. It was disappointing to see they still don't have these small features. That coupled with the current compatibility some people are reporting has kept it off my list here. Though it is a very early release and I'm sure the PA team will have it up and running in no time.
So... What are your favorite Roms and tweaks you're using on your m8???
HTC One (M8) MultiRom: PACman 5.1.1; SOKP 5.1.1; CyanogenMod 12.1.1 (Nightlys updated weekly); ViperOne M8 w/Hypernova Kernel

[Q] What is the best daily driver ROM as of 2/12/11?

Okay, so I know there have been similar threads out there, but none of them have been very recent. The Incredible Rom world has been getting a lot of dev support lately with roms being ported from other devices and people simply getting bored and coming over to the incredible.
I'm not new to hacking, flashing ROM's, kernels and etc--though this is my first post here, I've been lurking around for a couple of months now. I've tried Virtuous, Redemption, MIUI, Warm, CyanogenMod and several different kernels. I've found MIUI to be the most polished with the most features and support, Warm was the fastest when I used lou's kernel #8, Redemption came in 2nd with speed, and CyanogenMod was okay--but I probably wont go back. MIUI is my current daily driver, but I will soon be checking out Incredibly Re-Egineered and Liquid Metal--both of which I've heard were excellent daily drivers.
There is no way the average ROM user can really go through every ROM and find the best--but they don't have. With our large community, at least one of us has tried each ROM. So tell me, what ROM's have you used? Which ROM is currently your favorite daily driver and why?
Well if you prefer aosp then CM 6.1 stable (or the CM7 Nightlies which are stable and amazing.) Or CVPS Ruby 2.0.2 which is an excellent source build. If you prefer Sense the I would recommend Redemptionrom 2.3 (2.4 is on the horizon )or SkyRaider both are stable and well supported by their developers and the community. All the above have a good amount of options from kernels to mods/themes. I personally use CM, I have since the G1 oh so very long ago lol. So if you havent given GB CM7 a spin you should check it out with the new 2.6.37 kernel by slayher. I saw you like MIUI...though there's active support Im just not a fan of the apple esque ui...just preference i guess. Hope that helps.
Cheers

The question is whether you want a Sense ROM or AOSP ROM. I prefer Sense ROMs and am currently running Uber Z ROM, which is a port of the new Sense UI. However if you want an AOSP ROM that is still true to Android I would go with CM, but MIUI is a different beast entirely. It's all about personal preference though.
As far as kernels go I also prefer Lou's, but I have had solid performance with #9. However kernels are more specific to the hardware of your phone so just go with what works best for you.
Ive been using incredibly re engineered for a bit aswell as senseless revolution and i love both of them. Theyre great daily drivers and very fast

Try out OMFGB. I've been on it since mid-january.

There are many choices. I look for the dev support and the community using it. If the thread if full of jerk comments, I pass. That being said...
Redemption, Redemptive, Inc-Re-engineered and Magnolia have great support and are customizable. I have had little to no issues with any of these.
There are some great Z-Roms out there as well. I was having issues with the exchange mail interface that was a deal breaker for me. I could not access the Corporate email list with it.
Tried out some new roms.
Great information guys. I personally prefer Sense, however don't mind AOSP roms much either. If it's feature rich, has good dev support, and not overly difficult to use--I can go either way (I just believe sense has a better backbone to work off.)
I think I'm going to try OMFGB and the Uber Z Rom next. I actually went ahead and tried Liquid Metal and Incredibly Re-engineered on today. Liquid Metal was very unique, and though it had some excellent features, it was a little too unique and complicated to navigate around--I just found the UI quite strange.
However, Incredibly Re-engineered I feel is just excellent. It's a lot like Warm 2.2, which I liked quite a bit, and I found it to have much fewer bugs--if any. It may be my new favorite (I personally didn't like the MIUI IPhone feel myself).
Please keep them coming guys.
I think ive tried ever rom. I love cm7 and with weather toggle widgets it looks like sense. Support is awesome! I enjoy the z roms although they dont enjoy me. The mytouch 4g rom was the fastest ive ever seen, but its got a few issues. Just remember, all roms have their own little quirks, its all about what you can live with. Personally for me and what i use, cm7 is the most stable rom ive ever used. All the roms are great, i take my hat off to the devs, i wish i had their talent.

I find myself always coming back to SkyRaider Sense 3.5 with HeyItsLou's #7 kernel... a very stable combo on my phone. I have run pretty much all of the roms on the first 2 pages of the Dev thread and have much love and thanks to all of the developers for taking time to let the rest of us enjoy the fruits of their labors
Sent from a pay phone.
I've tried a few ROMs and kernels and I've always gravitated back to Hey It's Lou Redemptive Revolution latest ROM and #9 kernel.

Currently, I use CM6 for the DInc. Until an official stable release of CM7 comes out I'll probably stick with this (mainly b/c I'm lazy). It has a very nice feature set and it seems to be okay on my battery, I can last through the day and it is fine. I used to run a ROM with one of the kernels that focused on battery life. While I got amazing battery life (relatively speaking, as far as that goes for the DInc) sometimes the phone would seem sluggish. So while CM6 isn't the fastest, I think it's a nice compromise.
-shrugs- my two cents
Other than triple Facebook Birthday events in my calendar, Virtuous 3.2.0 still does the trick here.
SenseUI. Virtually completely stock, with all of the normal Root Access goodies, and 100% stable.
Cyanogenmod 6.1 worked great for me. I also had no problem with the nightly (#35). Both using stock cyanogenmod kernels. Ultimate Droid 3.0 just came out and it seems to work great as well.
I personally have been using Embrace Miui (a slightly stripped down , much more polished version than original build) with invisiblek #28 kernel and have had no problems and great battery life.
So basically my suggestion would be embrace (if you like miui), Cyanogenmod 6.1 (if you want froyo) or UD 3.0 (if you want gingerbread). If you want an aftermarket kernel, I suggest invisiblek (for froyo builds).
+1 for HeyItsLou's Redemtive rEVOlution rom, Skyraider is great too, althought i haven't had one on since 2.5. Every Gingerbread rom I've tried has gps issues with my phone. Until I can find a good Gingy rom, rEVO rom is what I'm stickin with.
Athena 1.2 and Myn. Great roms.
Incredibly Re-engineered
I have tried most of the roms on xda and just flashed Incredibly Re-Engineered for the first time when the newest version (2.3) came out about a week ago. I have been running it for the entire week now with not a single problem whatsoever. It is lightning fast and has a stock feel to the UI which is what I like. Also, the developer seems great and appears to help literally in anyway he can to fulfill peoples requests for custom made features. I will be sticking with this rom probably as my permanent, of course besides taking new ones for test drives as they come out. Just my 2 cents...
Athena... STABLE, snappy, long battery life, nice customization options and sense(less).
Been waiting for a ROM like this since I got my Dinc.

[Q] cyanogen mode 11 vs skydragon gpe

Hey guys i wanted to know whic one of these roms offers better experience!
Cause i prefer gpe ui rather than sens and i don't like like pure pure gpe!
So which one whould you choos?
Cyanogen mode11 or skydragon gpe :?
Neither of them offer better performance. These types of thread get closed everyday here on XDA. It all boils down to personal preference. Make a backup and try them out for yourself. Nobody here is you and only you can decide what works best for you.
Should we pick out your next pair of shoes for you? Want me to dress you tomorrow?
I'm sickened by people that can't make an opinion on their own and make posts like this, posts that get locked up quick.

Last I checked all of the GPE ROMs are more stable. AOSP ROMs like CyanogenMod and AOKP, which task650 is working hard to build, require more work to support things like WiFi, Bluetooth, Camera, IR sensor, etc. At the moment the CM11 and AOKP builds for the M8 do not have reliable Camera functionality.
Performance wise? Any AOSP or GPE ROM had felt the same to me. Very fluid performance with no lag to speak of.
Battery life? Haven't used both enough to get a grasp but from I've seen this leans more towards gpe based software.
Stability? Crushing victory for GPE here. Their Roms contain all the proprietary stuff from HTC so naturally just about everything hardware wise is going to function just fine. All this has to be worked on heavily with any AOSP ROM due to having to find ways to get around the closed source drivers.
Customizable? I'll have to give an edge to some of the AOSP based Roms. Some such as Paranoid Android having a seemingly endless amount of options. Even GPE with gravitybox can't compare.
All in all its going to boil down to what you prefer.
SD GPE is best
(c'mon i know thats biased but what do people expect with comparison threads)
reported for slaughter
Thread closed,
Rom comparison threads are against forum rules. Best thing to do is to try them for yourself.
Many thanks,
Ghost

3 years and the stable daily driver you use?

Hi,
Will try not to make this a 'best rom' thread!
More than 3 years since GNex came out, so what's our opinion?
The developers have been more than generous to devout their time in increasing the GNex life by months and years.
Which ROM as per each of us, we have been using the longest as daily drivers?
Criteria -
a. No lags/minimum lags despite using over months.
b. Good battery life.
I will tell mine - remember to have used PA 3.92 for more than 5-6 months. Thereafter it has been 'yet-to-find my stable' journey.
So which one would you recommend?
Cheers,
Roy
Been running PA 2.57 for >2.5 yrs.
I've found JB 4.1.2's tablet mode to be the best version of Android when it comes to one handed user friendliness.
I just installed SlimKat 9.0, which I've been very happy with for about a week!
I think this old phone may last me another year!
Slimkat 9.0. I've used it since it came out, and it has been the most stable for me on KK. I haven't used many of the L builds, due to my personal opinion that L is beyond Toro's capabilities. I have tried most of the popular ROMs for toro, across android version bases, but have found slim 9.0 to be my favorite overall.

Why would you say it's beyond your phone's capabilities? The newest 5.1 zMod Lollipop build for my Maguro phone runs very well on my device...the only limiting factor is the fact that our device has very low free RAM compared to newer phones, and apps since then have become more bloated so that doesn't help matters as well.

Exactly as you stated... Limited free ram, lack of official driver and radio support (I use toro, our last official update was to 4.2.2 AFAIK).
I've tried some custom ROMs, and I haven't found ANY to be "VERY" stable. The problem with software development is it's difficult and boring. To make a stable ROM, a developer must spend years fixing boring bugs on an old version, rather than switching to a fun new version. And what volunteer developer wants a boring hobby? The newest version is always more exciting, even if it is functionally worse.
Everyone agrees that Google's 4.3 for Galaxy Nexus is worse than 4.2, right? So even Google couldn't get the new version right. I predict that if we tested many different ROMs, the best would be an old 4.2 or 4.1 version. Like AOKP or PA, for example.
I've been using Unofficial PA ROM with 4.4.4 and it has decent battery life and best if all its very smooth. Probably the smoothest ROM on this Android version ive found to date. So definitely recommend it and like I said the battery life is good. Not great.

Good starter ROM

Hi,
I just bought a Nexus 7 2013 and I'm looking for a good starter ROM. I read a few articles on the pros/cons of ROMs but those articles are a bit outdated so the information is mostly about 4.4.4 ROMs and nothing Lollipop related.
I know the best way is to try them all and there is no perfect ROM for everyone, just perfect for each of us, but from what I can understand there seems to be 3 that really pop out
- CleanROM. Pure stock with a few tweaks
- BlissPop. Popular CM build with a lot of customization ROM
- DirtyUnicorns. Popular AOSP build also with a ton of tweaks.
I'm looking for something that doesn't sacrifice stability for added options and tweaks and a ROM that even if perhaps there are daily builds, that there is a less frequent "stable" build for those like me who don't want to flash daily and report bugs.
Am I missing a ROM worth looking at? I know there is Sinless which I liked on my HTC M8, there's SlimROM too, I mean there are lots to choose from which is great, I'm just looking for perhaps the ROM that would be the "One size fits most". I'm thinking Blisspop would be a good place to start but I'm curious to hear from others.
Forgot to add that I'd rather have Lollipop without XPosed over KitKat.
Thank you
My opinion is that after trying of all of them with all different kernel combination , my pick is DirtyUnicorns with it's own kernel, UnicornBlood. I run the Weeklies build.
Official (stable releases) are built every 1-2 months , Weeklies (also very stable) every 2 weeks and Test builds are well test builds every week or so when the dev tries new things and sees if they work great to be implemented into weeklies and stable.

Awesome, I'll give it a try for sure. I remember using AOSP on my Galaxy S3 and the weekly builds were very good. I think Joel made them. Weekly updates is pretty good, I like flashing but I like to be done flashing one update before a new one is released!
Well I tried BlissPop, Dirty Unicorns, CleanROM and I have to say I might just stick to stock/rooted for now. I don't need a ton of customization, in fact the only customization I miss is the XGEL settings for Xposed because I like the google launcher but with the icon themes I bought over the years.

[ROMS][JFLTETMO]The "Bum of the Month Club" Roms[Marshmallow][Lollipop]

Welcome to the "Bum of the Month" club!
Joe Louis was the world heavy weight champion from 1937 to 1949, during which he defended his title 25 times! The men that he fought against were actually not bums, many were accomplished fighters with great records. However, these contenders could not stand up to Joe Louis in the ring.
Similarly, here is a collection of bum roms that had great potential, but could not stand up in the ring. Here is a collection of various roms that just didn't quite work out. Some of these roms are highly functional, with one or two key issues, and others are complete duds. If anyone has any thoughts on how to fix these roms, I am all ears! At present, they are still here because I couldn't figure out how to fix them. There are many other roms that I worked on that never even booted, which are not included here.
Comments are always welcome, but please remember that each one of these "bums" required hours of labor.
Also, if you have built "bum" roms for the S4, you are welcome to post them here to if you would like!
Liquid Smooth 6.0.1
http://www.mediafire.com/download/9dxfzfn3wcsu3oj/LS-MM-v6.0-jfltetmo-20160628-lionheart-aklu.zip
Liquid Smooth has been around for a long time, but unfortunately, they have closed down. LS will no longer be producing their custom roms. As a farewell nod, I put together this Liquid Smooth Marshmallow rom. Phone calls work great, but cellular data has some sort of problem. Actually, data from the cell phone or WiFi does not appear to work. That makes this rom quite literally a telephone with a few apps.
Slim Roms 6.0.1
http://www.mediafire.com/download/u...etmo-6.0.1.alpha-UNOFFICIAL-20160607_AKLU.zip
Slim Roms has always been a favorite of mine, so when the Slim team started working on Slim6, I jumped at the chance to put it to use on the S4. However, I could never solve an issue with phone calls. You can make or receive calls, but they cut in and out while you talk to the other person, making phone calls practically unusable. There is a newer, more functioning version of this rom for the Samsung Galaxy S4 (All GSM variants), so I recommend you use the wonderful rom put together by the JFLTE DevConnection Team, be sure to slap their thanks button! That rom can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...slim6-t3426515
Dirty Unicorn 6.0.1
http://www.mediafire.com/download/9...tmo_6.0.1_20160608-1313.v10.2-DIRTY-DEEDS.zip
Built due to a request from an XDA member, I put together this DU 6.0.1 specifically for the JFLTETMO variant of the S4. However, after building it, I realized DU was not really my style. The rom is functional overall, but very buggy and unresponsive. Sometimes the sound does not work, sometimes it does. The rom seems to struggle under it's own weight and is using a large amount of RAM for system tasks, leaving little for regular use by comparison to my other roms.
CyanogenMod 13 6.0.1
http://www.mediafire.com/download/22c467sgqw0ema7/cm-13.0-20160510-AKLU-jfltetmo.zip
CM13 was my very first sucessful build for the S4. Everything works except the Bluetooth. The official CM13 is fully functional, so I recommend that you use that one.
AOKP 5.0.1

http://www.mediafire.com/download/75sm6ayb3obnai2/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
This Lollipop version of AOKP was a dud. Cellular data and calls are not working, nor is the built in Super User controls. You need to flash the SU zip to enable root permissions. The rom itself is lacking in just about every way possible. Fortunately, God graciously allowed me to build AOKP MM, and I focused on that, which is fully functional, and you can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/development/rom-aokp-mm-t3391994
Orion OS 6.0.1
http://www.mediafire.com/download/hncbf3kqcnq15fx/OrionOS-jfltetmo-2.5-UNOFFICIAL-20160822.zip
Orion OS is relatively new to the rom scene, but it has some really slick features. With "Substratum" RRO layer support, you have tons of theme options that are equal to or perhaps even greater in some cases than the CMTE counterpart. With a SlimRoms feel, this OS focuses on a dark them UI and a "slim" array of useful apps. The focus is on speed and function over features. Not as feature rich as the AOKP, but has more than SlimRoms. I would put this on par with LiquidSmooth back in it's prime. Unfortunately, I couldn't get over the "DEVICE_OUT_PROXY" errors during build without switching to "DEVICE_OUT_ALL". The compilation completed, but you can't hear anything from this ROM because there is no sound!
