Fastboot question - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

T-Mobile, rooted, s-off, running Viper 1.6. I am on an the .25 firmware and trying to upgrade to .33 firmware. I do not have access to my computer, so I tried to rename the zip to run it in fastboot. I have done this before with other HTC devices (the M8)and it searched for the zips automagically, however my M9 does not. Any ideas as to why?

I just got my M9 a day ago and I haven't rooted it yet but let me dig around and find out the differences between the M7 and the M9 I have. The T-Mobile .33 update was 400+MB in size though.

Did you
a) rename the file to 0PJAIMG.zip? (That's a zero not an O!)
b) copy the file onto an external sd card that's formatted to fat32 and not bigger than 32gb?
c) boot into download mode?
If you fulfill all these requirements your phone should guide you through the rest of the process.

^ This is the correct way to do it ^
Works for RUU.Zip also ... The white screen bootloader is just a choice menu on this phone. All the fastboot and flashing options happen in download mode (the black bootloader screen)

a) yes b) yes and found my problem, sd card is 64gb, c) yes

SD Card Boot-Loader

I am trying to run the SD Card boot-loader with no sucess.
I have put the ******.nbh file on the root of an empty 1Gb MicroSD card, put it in the device, held down the Speech Button and switched the device on.
It very briefly says on the screen 'reading SD Card' (or something like that) then goes to the RGB screen. It does not attempt to run anything from the SD card no matter what I try.
Am I doing something wrong, or are there issues with SD cards over a certain capacity. I have tried formatting the card as both FAT, and FAT 32.
Hi,
you have to format your sd-card with an cardreader and your windows pc! please use as filesystem fat32, after the formatingprocess copy the *.nbh file on your sd-card. then insert the card in your device and enter the bootloader.
thats all, enjoy and have fun
Tried that and can not get it to work. Will try again though. Any particular block size when I format?
use standard blocksize, and you must use the correct filename for the *.nbh file!
also, has to be the correct image, not all nbh files will load off SD card

flashing from card
to flash from card, CID should be unlocked.
current uspl doesn't allow to flash from card.
two solutions: imei-check or gold card with arteimg.nbh file.
regards,
what is gold card
I am trying to flash the original O2 UK ROM. The file is named Arteimg.nbh and is the correct image for the device.
I really can not get it to work, when I start the device it says on the screen that it is reading the card, but only for about half a second, is that normal?
its normal for it to probe sd card yeah, but not to ignore it hmm... might be worth going to o2 shop shrug your shoulders and say it all went pete tong... lol what i did!!

Guys, just get the device into BOOTLOADER. Connect to PC (WindowsXP) then run the O2 UpdateROMUtility.exe file. The device should flash and after 10mins or so you should have your device back.
I bricked my phone and did this. Got it back working no problems. After it works again, get it unlocked. Saves any bother in the future. www.imei-check.org

Brick - stop at boot logo, no recovery

Hello!
I have the HTC Desire (Amoled), was taken root, has been installed firmware LeeDrOiD. Checking for updates is disabled. At one point the phone in a shirt pocket reboot, and ... Booting hangs at boot logo. When you start the recovery - the same screen boot logo.
At the same time received:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
Tried to flash all of the available WWE RUU, just tried to flash through PB99IMG.zip. Regardless of the success / failure load firmware, the result does not change - then boot logo is not loading, recovery is not available.
Read many threads about brick, boot loop - everything is solved through firmware RRU. In my case it does not help.
Has anyone encountered similar? Are there any solutions (apart from the service center)?

Does anyone have any ideas?
Try to flash this:

or this:

Yes it is possible. You would need another phone that accepts a MicroSD card or use a USB card reader (if you have one)/Laptop card reader. Upon purchasing your SD card, did you not receive a MicroSD card adaptor? simply place the MicroSD card into that, then insert into your laptop card reader. Then follow the steps for creating the Gold Card tool in my sig below.

As I already said, flashing through the RUU does not change anything.

Ani ideas?
Ive encountered the same thing, what i did was using another Desire to create goldcard (same vendor handset) and flash the RUU just fine.

[Q] Desire keeps rebooting and can't mount sd card

Hi there,
All of sudden my good old Desire is being caught in a boot loop. It reboots halfway my custom boot animation roughly at same position.
I tried the troubleshooting guide above [1], but now I cant mount the sd card to reflash my rom or restore the backup
Tried the solution in [13] but to no avail.
Should I reformat my SD card with Gparted now? and then put the zipped rom in the root of sd card and then flash rom? I'm afraid i lost the link to the guide I used
Some info:
Hboot 0.93.0001
AlphaRev Recovery 2.5.1.8.
used Unrevoked 3.21 and Gparted (1gb ext4, 3gb fat32)
S-Off and rooted
Any ideas?

First try this ^. I doubt it'll work as the problem seems to be a usb brick, but its worth a try before doing harder stuff.
If that doesnt work download 4ext recovery as a recovery.img, and flash it using fastboot. (im asuming you've already setup fastboot since you did [13] in bortaks guide). First put the phone into fastboot mode, then run the command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
After that boot into 4ext, go to tools, and use the usb unbrick option.
Well, that didnt work. . Gparted couldnt find any devices. Maybe some usb brick indeed...
Looks like I'm gonna have to go to plan B. Not sure where to find the ' 4ext recovery' file though. Can you point me to the file or some guide?
Thanks for the help.

You can download the recovery here: http://www.4ext.net/ddl/bravo/recovery.zip (extract the zip, and place the recovery.img on your desktop.)
Setup adb if you haven't already http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-set-up-android-adb-and-fastboot-on-windows-tutorial/
Remove the battery from the phone then reinsert. Hold back+power. That should boot the phone into fast boot mode
Open a command prompt window on your pc. Enter "cd Desktop", then enter the command that i stated in my post above.
Edit: Looks like I've been ninja'd by Andu.
Installed 4ext recovery touch 10.0.05 RC8, did the usb unbricking and rebooting, but still can't mount the sd card

If you can, buy a Samsung sd-card.
Ah trusty Desire... I knew you wouldn't let me down . Turns out a faulty sd card was to blame. Replaced it with a Sandisk 16 GB class 10 sd card and put a 1,5 GB Ext4 partition on it. Now running Runnymede_AIO_V6.0.4.3_Special_Edition instead of the old Leedroid and I have no regrets I must say . I must admit fooling around with the device was much more relaxed this time around, now that smartphone prices have come down a bit . Looks like my Desire is going to keep me company for a few more years.
Thanks to all contributors for giving my phone a, well..., third life .

Hahaha i thought he meant internal storage. I know where the sd slot. This is the third phone i've rooted and it has proven to be the hardest or at least the most temperamental. Anywho the sd card thingy seems to have done the trick. It installs the rom and loads correctly now to find an actual working rom. Cyanogenmod is still too buggy to use.

Firmware Flashing through SD Card

I remember from the M8 days that you could flash a firmware through an external SD card by renaming it to a specific file name. I was wondering if this is possible on the HTC 10. Would be really convenient in the future.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2824048
It is.
2PS6IMG.zip
Be sure the android-info.txt is correct.
Zip normal compression is fine.
So you can confirm this does work? I loved having this back in the M8 days. It made updating firmwares a piece of cake.
I tried I couldn't get it to work. The file path it looks for is extsd and my phone doesnt label the card that. I tried to change the file name of my card to no avail. Any insight?
My sdCard is named 49C5-B086 and I put the file in Root there and it still works, says sd_ext in Download Mode.
So I guess my card isn't formatted to fat32. So how would I reformat my card
So basically it is not as easy as it once was? Before, you would just rename the file on your ext SD card and boot to hboot and it would automatically update for you.
Ive tried this with my VZW HTC 10. It appears to have flashed correctly, but when I reboot, my phone still shows to be on the older firmware. Any ideas?

Check your download mode. There is displayed the firmware number, you are probably referring to the software version in settings.
So now you have the new firmware and the old software. Those are 2 completely different things !
