[Q] OTA Weirdness - Tab Pro 10.1 - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

Got a notice of an OTA last night. Figured it was for Lollipop so told it to proceed. Once the tablet rebooted the WiFi radio was disabled. Looked in settings which showed that WiFi was on, but no radio. Went online an saw that Samsung hasn't sent out the Lollipop update for the 10.1.
Question 1 - how do I restore my tablet since I can't get WiFi turned on?
Question 2 - where did this weird OTA come from?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Others having same issue
Thought I'd post this as info. Checked over at Android Central and several people appear to be having the same issue. Looks like bad firmware from Samsung. Bad build number is: KOT49H.T520UEUAOD1. Wiping and factory refresh may help temporarily, but eventually the wifi radio will be disabled. I'm going to wait for Samsung to get their act together and flash a fresh build when it's released.
Thanks for the help.
Mike

My 10.1 Tab Pro was updated too but wifi is working fine. I'm not rooted though. Same build number that you mentioned.

Wifi Issue as well
I had the same update come across last night and now I can't connect to wi-fi to save my life. Really pissed off. Done 2 factory resets already, reset my modem at home, turns out it happens everywhere and not just at home. Wifi says it's on but doesn't pick up any networks in my area and won't connect to the 1 that is already known on my tab. PLEASE HELP

Got the update last week. Wifi is fine but now daily I get a random reboot. Never had any problems before. Thanks Sammy!

I have the same issue with the build described.
Does one know how to correct this firmware update if the tablet is unable to connect to the internet?

You can download an earlier firmware from sammobile.com. If you are in the US, use the firmware for cellular South and make sure it's a 4.4.2 that you are downloading. After you download it, you can flash it with Odin. There are several threads here on xda that describe this process. If you still need further help, post again.

Boy am I glad to find you guys with the same problem as I have. Couple of days ago I saw an update message and decited to go for it. Well, as all of you know, wifi stops working. Factory resets gets it working again but once everything is restored it stops working again! This is quite frustrating and I hope Samsung is working on a fix right now. I haven't been on XDA for a while and only rooted phones before. So how is the rooting/mod scene for tablets. Any good Custom Roms out there we can use until/when this is resolved? I'm good with directions and done some custom roms on my phones before. Let me know what's the good ROMS out there are...the bloatfree version is a welcome even without KNOX, I don't really use it.

Thanks for your feedback.
I had to use the firmware from November 2014 to get it to work and restore my wi-fi.
Again thanks

KOT49H.T520UEUAOD1 is the problem
Well I figure this particular firmware has a problem. Because even after factory reset, wifi works once and goes back to not working. So the best solution is to get an earlier version. I went back to Sep 15, 2014 version and it works well. Took forever to download from sammobile though. So if you need to flash to a previous version that works. I have post a link to the firmware I have on my OneDrive that got it working again, hopefully it will be faster for you to get your tablet working again. Here is a link. This is for the US Tab Pro 10.1 SM-T520.

thank you for those who warned about the wifi problems this OTA introduced. I'm just going to keep ignoring the tablets request to update. I thought i got a great deal on this tablet when i got a refurbished one for under $300 several months ago... but samsungs lack of support for this tablet is astonishing.

[Q] TMO SGH-T989 wifi not working. is this h/w issue?

I bought this phone used from eBay and it worked fine for about a month.
Then the Wi-Fi stopped working. as you can see in the pictures, the wifi button (slider) is disabled/grayed out and if you go into the menu, it is stuck on "Turning wi-fi on".
I've tried everything from downgrading to 2.3.6 GB (currently on official ICS 4.0.4 through Kies) to installing Cyanogen mod ROM but it wont work. rooted then unrooted. everything else works great.
Any help would be appreciated.
I've attached screen shots to this post.
Thanks.

Yup. I did. I have other devices on home wifi that have no problems connecting. In addition i have tried at starbucks and work wifi. Still no go.
The WiFi on the Galaxy S2 wont even turn on to recognize/select networks (SSIDs) to connect to. As you can see in the pics, the Wifi ON/OFF button is grayed out/disabled.
Did you try flashing a different radio since the issue started? If not I would try it, maybe downgrade the radio to UVLI1 or even try re-flashing the same radio. I know I had this issue once before but fixed it somehow, I think it was just a reboot for me but if you tried all of what you said in the OP you would have rebooted a few times.
Did you use Odin to flash back to stock? If not, give it a try with a full wipe.
Although i have not tried to mess with Radio (noob here, not sure i wont mess that up), I did Odin the phone back to stock ROM with no luck.

Ah Ok. There you go then. and i tried with a couple of TMO stock ROMS (starting with GB 2.3.6). so obviously that hasnt worked. Thanks.
i found a possible fix, that worked for me. Go into your recovery, i did it with TWRP (latest one) and advanced and fix permissions, than i rebooted and worked! Give it a try.

To avoid any future hassles I contacted the seller and he agreed to take it back for a full refund, so i guess i'll never know what happened. Thanks for your help everyone.
I know this thread is nearly a year old, but I had this problem and figured out a fix that worked for me so I know its still relevant.
My fix was:
- reboot into latest cwm recovery (v6.0.4.3 touch for me)
- click "mounts and storage"
-click "unmount /cache"
-reboot
So far it has worked every time and wifi screw ups have happened rarely ever since. Hope this late post helps at least one person who was as frustrated as me!

My WIFI is off, and if I hit turn on, it got stuck on turn on. But if I were to back out and go back in, it would be on off again.
I'm using Kitkat
After awhile all i had to do to fix it was turn airplane mode on and off. But just the other day, I was flying so had my phone in airplane mode and now that won't fix it and neither will my original fix :crying:
I have the same problem
It was working fine stopped and did everything and still not working,

4.3 Update BEWARE!

Hi, I am needing help with a troublesome issues since updating my Samsung S3 LPH-710 (sprint). I have been a long time root user and kept up with all of the updates and changes throughout the years. However, I updated and flashed my root and my phone had WIFI issues. WIFI would not event be allowed to turn on. So be it, I was able to re-flash 4.3 firmware and unroot. WIFI works fine but the phone still glitches on some issues.
I then tried to downgrade to 4.1.2. through ODIN v 1.85 and have also used v3.07 and systems and everything passes just fine. My phone reboots with 4.3. Similar, I have tried rooting 4.3 with as many different md5 being talked about in the forums that are compatible and NOTHING. I get the pass but my phone does seems to be re-looping.
I am not sure what the DEVS behind 4.3 have done but it has stumped us quite a bit; looking forward to some fixes or help on this issue in the near future.
I should have known not to upgrade and research this new update before downloading as I have been watching the back and forth complexities throughout the years.
Thanks!

You cant downgrade from 4.3, it will not work. Due to Knox boot loaders.

I was able to root using the [CF-Auto-Root] method and so far everything seems to be working fine including WIFI. I will have to re-install all of my apps and APK before finalizing my assessment.
For the WiFi issues though, it can be fixed by deleting your existing SSiD in the saved WiFi connection list then select advanced turn select WPS push button. Nowpush the WPS button on your router and wait for it to sync. This worked to all my friends who are having a problem.
Thanks! Smooth sailing, all is fine now.

[Q] Network drops sometimes

Hi all,
Although i'm new to posting to this forum, i'm reading it for about a year now, but couln't find a topic in which my problem with the Galaxy S4 mini is covered..
I got this phone for about a week now, and overall i like it al lot. I just got i rooted 1 day now because i wanted to put back some apps from my old HTC Desire, and wanted to have root acces anyway.
However i'm experiencing some network drops since i got the phone, which means that i can't call, and internet wont work. When i restart the phone (or switch on/off airplane mode) the problem is solved for a while..but it comes back again now and then..very frustrating cause i feels unreliable. This was also happening a few times before i rooted.
It's probably not due to the sim-card, because i never experienced some problem like this in my old phone with the same sim..
Does anybody know how i could solve this problem ?
Thanx a lot.

Thanks for your reply, but when checking my phone-info it says already 'baseband version I9195XXUBNB3' which is the baseband from the topic i believe..is that the latest one?
Next to that,, I already knoxed it up, cause i flashed CWM yesterday..
I have experienced same thing, tried different official firmwares, also some unofficial tw, and cm roms, happens time to time, usually fix this by selecting my network operator again.

I read on other forums that some other users are experiencing indeed the same problem..for me it happened a couple of times a day in the beginning. Then in my 'sim-menu' app i switched from 'manual sim-selection' to 'automatic sim-selection' .. it looked like this helps a bit, but i recently experienced the network drop again, so the problem is still not gone..
You can regain network again by switching on/off, but if you're phone is in your pocket you don't know if network suddenly got lost, so i think it's a quiet unreliable phone for now..

I believe i'm already at the latest firmware..i updated OTA yesterday before i rooted my device, and i seems that i got the same build as from the latest version from the sammobile website..

Also, when trying to change network-modus, i only can choose : GSM/ WCDMA (automatic) , GSM Only, WCDMA only...there is no 4G option , isn't that strange ?

since you got the network issues since you have the phone,
it's most likely hardware demage
Today i restarted my phone cause at night battery runned low..when booted up i connects with the gsm-network, although data-connection won't start. So i CAN call phone-numbers, but can't browse the internet .. when turning on/off airplane mode it reconnects to the internet-connection again..

You mentioned when installing CM i may end up bricking the phone..why is that ? Isn't it just as easy as flashing a new rom via CWM ?
And then, which CM rom would you suggest ? 10.2 of 11 ?

I have this same problem with my not-rooted S4 mini [SGHi257M Rogers Canada]. I have had the phone since early December last year. The problem started recently [perhaps a month ago?]. I returned the phone for repair about a week ago. I should have it back within the next week or so. I'll post here when i get it back, especially if it comes back with any useful info.

Hey Mdawdy, thanks for your information, it looks like it's indeed like the same problem !
I'm looking forward to hear if the problem still exists when you receive your phone back from repair, and what they say the problem was..
Unfortunately i'm already rooted, so i probably can't send it back to repair because I voided the warranty , or is it still possible somehow ?

Rooting doesn't especially mean that you've KNOX, i think it's only really warranty void if it has KNOX 0x1.
Enter Download mode to see if it has KNOX 0x1 or not (good would be 0x0)
/edit:
also if you live in the EU, i heard that even a knox'ed up device still has warranty

Already checked , and i indeed knox'ed up my device, 0x1 it is, and had to remove 3 KNOX apps from system because i got messages like "attempted to access your system on your device without authorisation" ..
But i live in EU so i might be lucky if you're right..will check on that.

Maybe i got something to do with charging the phone at the same time .. ? Just thinking out loud...
Other question..when checking the menu for selecting 2g/3g WDCMA auto..i can't find an option for using 4G ,,however the phone says it should support this. Can only choose from3 options: GSM/WCDMA (auto) , GSM, WCDMA. Is this correct ?

Hey Mdawdy, thanks for your information, it looks like it's indeed like the same problem !
I'm looking forward to hear if the problem still exists when you receive your phone back from repair, and what they say the problem was..
Unfortunately i'm already rooted, so i probably can't send it back to repair because I voided the warranty , or is it still possible somehow ?

I got my phone back today. On the report it says ...
Complaint
#1[]C56-no service
phone antenna cutting out intermittently
Symptom code C56
Work performed
[202]-Full sw upgrade & phone reset
;sw re-flashed then rebuild to factory default
Repair code 202
I'll see if it happens again or not over the next few days and report back. To me it sounds like they did nothing to the physical components of the phone, just flashed/installed/configured the various software components.
Mick
Thanks for your information !
Seems indeed they didn't do a lot you couldnt do yourself ...
What do they mean by 'sw' btw ?
I'm curious if you still get the antenna dropoups from now on..

Wifi won't turn on

Hi guys. So about 1 week ago I finally let my s4 mini I9195 Do the update its been wantng to do for a while. Turns out when the update completed and the phone was turned back on again I couldnt connect to wifi, just press the toggle and it does nothing. So ive been lurking the web for solutions and done around these:
-Taking battery out various times and in diferent situations
-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980 did that even though I have no idea what rooting is and such though Ive read about it 1000x , just dont get why you do that or why there are so many ways and such
- wiped cache/ returned to manufacturer settings also a few times
So, by this point I have really no idea how to fix this guys and its been a pain because I am in erasmus and could really use the wifi. I really apreciate your time for reading this thread and hope that you are able to help. Awaiting your sugestions
Thanks
What you're describing is a very typical issue: the firmware wasn't updated completely (e. g. modem not updated). Solution: flash the firmware again with Odin.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. Can you give me a little more info on how to do that procedure?
Search for Odin (v3.09 or so). Check your firmware version and download it at Sammobile.com.
And use the search for further information.

Hey man thanks again for the reply.
I was doing this http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-mini/help/to-stock-firmware-choosing-problem-t2968295 but near the end it fails for some reason... any idea why?
So I tried it again and this just happened.. Kies wont even recognize.

If you are already on Kitkat you need Kies 3.
Have you probably tried to flash an JB firmware?
Search at Sammobile for the latest firmware for your country and network provider and flash it with Odin.
Hi guys,
i have a similar problem. I flash many time a couple of ROM (CM11 - slimkat) but the wifi doesn't turn on and also the cellular network and the bluetooth don't work...
In the last days i had many problem with my phone because i make a mistake during the flash (on odin) of a stock rom.
Do you have any suggestion?
Thanks a lot
I had the same problem. Wi-Fi didn't work after uploading KK firmware for my country (while to my surprise KK firmware for Belgium worked ok). I tried 3 times to upload KK firmware (XEO, anr PLS) via Odin 3.09 with the same effect (no way to turn on Wi-Fi). Then I used Odin 3.06 and it worked for me (I was able to turn on Wi-Fi without any problem - strange but it had worked). So try to use older ver. of Odin first.

WIFI will not turn on

Same issue here.
I get around it by forgetting network then just signing in again. Wifi works perfectly until I leave the house and return later. Then I just do the above and viola, working wifi.
I've checked with speed test app and wifi is definitely working.
Funny thing is, if I switch off wifi then turn back on it also works.
Only when ive left home and returned later does this bug arise.
Hello guys,
This thread is a little bit old, but I am curious to know if you found a workaround for this issue.
I have the same problem as the OP (not at the second poster): since I received Stock Lollipop the WiFi won't turn on. When I try to, it says "turning on" for a while then acts like it is off.
I just bought my LG G3, NCIX the reseller, refuses to refund me or replace my phone...
I performed several factory resets and tried to flash different KK stock Roms. The weird thing is that the WiFi works with KK...
Thanks for your help.
Identical experience here.
I recently got a D855 16GB, which was on stock unbranded V10a, jumped through several OTA updates through V10g, V10j, and V10k (IIRC) all with wifi working fine before getting the lollipop upgrade OTA for V20c.
Immediately wifi will not switch on - the switch itself is on, but with the off section a lighter grey compared to the bluetooth switch.
On the wifi screen itself it says "Turning Wi-Fi on..." but after a while the switch reverts to off.
It's now had OTAs to V20e and V20h, but wifi is dead on both versions.
Note that this is stock and unrooted (never rooted) so I can't believe it's something I've done. Next trick will be to root and poke around /data/misc/wifi.
Does bluetooth work or the problem is only with the wifi? I also have the same problem, wifi, bluetooth is not working and when I check in the settings the mac adress it says "unknown".

Unfortunately this isn't a unique problem. There have been countless bad updates from multiple manufacturers. In this litigious world, I'm surprised no one has sought damages for bad updates that effect usability.
I have the same problem from yesterday. wifi and bluetooth seem to be turning on but they never turn on. i've done many factory resets but it didn't work. has someone found a solution?
^^^ Exactly the same issue. Would love a solution!
Same issue. Tried Hard and soft reset and have also updated firmware using LG Mobile Support Tool but had no success.

ok, after 24h with this problem I think I got it back to working. Let me explain what have I done:
1. Mine is a dual sim model, that I bought in hong kong by the end of 2014.
2. Yesterday, I removed sim #2 (no longer needed), without removing the battery. I had a couple of messages indicating to restart the phone, blah blah. Can't remember if I finally restarted it or not.
3. This morning I saw no wifi connection in my phone, only 3G. Tried to start wifi in the quick access menu, but this kept blinking, never starting wifi. Restarting phone... nothing. turning off bluetooth... nothing.
I figured out that the problem had to be related with the SIM as this is the last thing I had done with the phone. Thus, I tried this, with success:
4. I turned off the phone, changed sim from slot #1 to slot#2 and started the phone. Wow, it worked for some minutes, then stopped, then started again. Well, a good sign.
5. Changed again sim from slot #2 to slot #1: Wifi working again. After some time it stopped working, but soon started again. Hasn't given me more problems (after only 30 min, that's true).
Hope it helps.

HELLO
I have exactly the same problem and I think we're not the only...
D855 :
-Wifi and Bluetooth doesn't work.
-Wifi keep turning on itself and the battery drain..
-3g/4g works perfectly.
-Downgraded on kk and Wi-Fi works so it is not a hardware issue
-Even on fulmics Rom Wi-Fi and Bluetooth doesn't work
HEELP ME PLEASE
Got the same problem here. I have my G3 since november 2014 and recently I rooted it to install CM 13 on it and Xposed bcs I got tired of the laggy software of LG. One morning I woke up to drink some water and saw my phone restarting a lot of time... ok I thought its a simple bootloop. Tried to install CM again, didnt fix it. Flashed stock software and still... Bought new battery and new power flex and the problem is still there. I go into download mode, installed the software with LGs support tool and got pass the bootloop, but now wifi nor bluetooth works. I thought it's the software so I dared myself again to root it and installed TWRP and CM13, but it wouldn't boot. I installed then Liquidsmooth, based on CM13, and got it to boot up, but in the configuration menu where WiFi is needed to be added it couldn't turn on. I skiped it and in the middle of the process it started again to restart. I don't know if it's a hardware based problem or software... But I would like to try everything out before I have to buy a new phone.

Have you maybe tried to change the kernel of your device? I have never done that so I am scared if I would damage something.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-7-tablet-2013/306730-wifi-stuck-turning.html
Here someone says it's the kernel that is having problems and installing a new one and going maybe back to the old one will fix it.

I installed CM13 and in the setup screen I actually had wifi and I could connect to my router. It was kinda strange. But bcs I have some problems beside wifi, the reboot thing, I couldn't test out if it works too. Try flashing CM13 or ROMs that are based on it like Liquidsmooth. Maybe it will help.
