[Q] Help! 3 hours, accidentally soft bricked my G4! - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on T-Mobile, and I upgraded from a G3 to a G4. Ordered the G4 from T-Mobile yesterday, got it a few hours ago. Earlier today, I went through the restore process for the G3 using the LG Flash Tool (essentially following these steps here). That all went fine. Shortly after that, without thinking, and without closing the LG Flash Tool, I plugged my G4 into my computer to charge it. I got confused for a moment when I noticed it restarting. The Flash Tool had picked it up, and was setting up to push the G3 firmware to it. I panicked, and unplugged the phone from the computer, right as the phone went to the "Firmware Update" screen. Now, whenever I turn it on, it just goes straight to "Firmware Update". Won't enter recovery mode, etc, etc... No matter what, just "Firmware Update".
Any help?

You done goofed OP. i dont think g3 method works on G4 from what ive heard. can you try to hard reset the phone? or if not connect to computer and use the terminal or ADB(i think its called) to restart to boot to the recovery menu

Well, it has the same download mode as the G3 (which is unfortunately the only thing it will boot into), so technically I should be able to flash the firmware the same way, only problem with that is, because it's so new, the .dll and .tot files aren't available anywhere.
I tried a hard reset from the phone, didn't work. I couldn't get ADB to pick up the device (since it only boots into download mode), so I couldn't reboot into recovery via ADB

Took it into a T-Mobile store, they couldn't do anything, as expected. Notated my account, and said to call. New phone was ordered and being sent out to me, should have it Monday

well at least your having it replaced. did the replacement cost anything?
sorry theres no fix to this right now. but i think its a little too early to mess with the G4

You have to restore you LG G4 to stock ROM.As your device is bricked you can't Flash via recovery.Download & Install LG Flash tool on your PC.Then download LG Stock Firmware according to your device model number. Then Flash via LG Flash tool.Below i share some helpful links
LG G4 Stock Firmware (Flashing Guide)-->>http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/guide-lg-g4-stock-firmware-to-stock-kdz-t3107848

Hope this will help you and others facing this issue

Actually there was no need to go to the store and get a new phone
You can easily flash G4 KDZs via LGUP, if you're stuck in download mode. Easiest game of your life. Sorry, that you had a lot of trouble, but keep in mind, that there's a way to get out of bootloops and such 99% of the time (well in fact 100% if it's a software problem). For future problems just check this thread. Easy to use, easy to get out of bootloops. Cheers

Thanks. But this was back in May, about 24 hours after it launched in the US. KDZ's weren't available then. Otherwise I would have done exactly what you said

[Q] No booting at all - HELP FIX PLEASE!

I was using this method to root my phone: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...-VIhhUe3eupYY1bKA&sig2=MyzZOys2QGrlPe6Pwlh_AQ
& I was stupid and combined the 20B file with the 10R file and then also didn't label TWRP as boot.img as the installer tells me to do as I overlooked that.
Now, I can plug in my phone and my computer recognizes it (Windows). I can't view any files though I just hear the sound that something via USB got connected.
I've tried taking out the battery and unplugging it and pressing the power button for 60+ seconds and then putting it back in and trying to go into download mode. It doesn't seem to work. THough I hear the sound of it plugging into the computer.
So, I tried the LG Flash Tool. It fails at model information check. Then has a bunch of zeros after that.
I tried LG Flash Tool 2014 and all of the KDZ files I had on my computer (as I was unrooting just last night and trying to fix stuff and had KDZ files that worked for me to unroot). Well, that fails with all of the files.
Since that didn't work, I've been googling stuff and decided to try the original tool I had and that's when I noticed I didn't rename TWRP to boot.img and I combined 20B with 10R and figured out my problem. So now aboot and laf don't match the software that the phone has installed on it. For this reason, I can't do anything with my phone.
I'm assuming this is a hard brick. How do I fix this? I need my phone TODAY like an hour ago. :/ I was stupid to try and re-root. Ugh.
Can someone help me please?!
EDIT: I tried the LG Mobile Support Tool and I was able to get to the Install USB Driver section. I clicked it and it loads but nothing happens. So, I clicked options > Upgrade Recovery. I entered my IMEI number and it went through the steps and one of my batteries was low so I changed it out and went back through and it stops randomly and tells me to do the Upgrade Recovery which I was already doing. :/
EDIT 2: Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver from the device manager and then re-ran LG Flash Tool but it stopped at the model info check fail again. So I tried all of the USB ports on my computer and they all stopped at the same error.
EDIT 3: I can't find my iPhone so I really need this fixed. I just want to be clear that I tried these methods as well and nothing has worked thus far: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
I checked the LG website for drivers and such as well so everything should be A'OK from that point of view. I even tried my USB 3.0 that are in the front of my computer.
EDIT 4: Still no luck. Been searching google and other places. I tried fastboot and adb but my phone isn't recognized by those so I can't do those. I want to try and flash the files I found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2766437
As I know that will help but without fastboot working, I don't see how I can get the files to be seen. Even if I were to put them on my MicroSD card, I don't see how I could flash them onto my phone. :/ That's all I need are the aboot_XXX.img and laf_XXX.img files fixed. UGH
EDIT 5: Called T-Mo to get a replacement. That will be here Monday. Until then I am doing my best to try and figure out how to fix this. I am severely upset by this. Found my iPhone so I won't be without a phone I'll just be upset until UPS gets here on Monday.
Well I hope this is a lesson for you. Unless you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing you read, read, read, and read some more. No where in that thread says you can do this on the d851, we have a unlocked bootloader and do not need bump. About your tot problem you can find generic dll that will not care what you're flashing. Be safe and stay out of the international threads from now on. I was a little harsh but I can kind of understand how that happen to you, that OP is a cluster f***

I recently had a problem with my phone and I was able to restore using TOT and KDZ files but my phone kept power cycling over and over. I sent it to LG and they replaced the usb port and the screen as I had put a dent through the back where the battery goes and they replaced all the parts and I guess a new board due to the power cycling due to flashing ota with twrp. It looks like a brand new phone but it's mine because the IMEI was the same. I would try to flash it using the TOT method and if it still doesn't work then send it to LG, the worst they can do is send it back. All I paid was 10.00 bucks for the box. Everything else was covered including shipping back to me. Go via the LG website and they will give you a free FedEx label and a Case #.
Good luck

Hard Brick? Tell Me It Aint So!

Long story short -
Tmobile G4, tried to root it, bricked; authentication error #11.
Got it to boot up to the download mode, followed this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/guide-lg-g4-stock-firmware-to-stock-kdz-t3107848); got the Sever Connection error, everyone said that was fine and to let it run... I did.
The LG tool got to 100%, the phone turned off and well... it's never turned back on.
Windows gives me a chime when I plug it in but nothing happens on the screen, I plug it into the outlet and it wont boot up, remove the battery just incase, still no dice.
Did I totally kill this phone?
EXACTLY what happened to me. I'll be following your thread!

This is a classic hardbrick. I am guessing you had 10n on phone and the kdz was for 10h. The downgrading of software is a nono on lg g4. At the moment, lg is the only 1 who can fix this.

So he just has to take it to the service centre and they will fix it ?
Yes

I downgraded from 10d to 10c without problems on an H815 after exFat support broke. What exactly is not downgradeable (system, recovery, boot, bootloader? My guess is the bl) and which variants can't be downgraded?
Nevermind, just found this -> [PSA] **WARNING** DO NOT TRY TO DOWNGRADE YOUR G4 BOOTSTACK (in USA at least)
@ThatsMajor I know it doesn't help, but for the future, make shure you do enough research. This could've been avoided.

LG G3 Blue Screen

Earlier today I was using my phone I forget what exactly I was doing I think I was using the web browser or opening an app. The phone randomly restarted and after the LG Logo screen appeared I got a blue screen for about 10 to 15 seconds and the screen went off. I pulled the battery to see if that would help but that didn't work. Tried safe mode and even factory reset both times got the blue screen (can get the little menu tho) I then plugged the phone into the computer and initially I could get it into download mode. But after installing the LG drivers, and installing LG Flash Tool I went to flash it back to stock. (My phone has pretty much been stock and unrooted except for the lollipop update. ) When I went to flash the phone screen went blue and the flash tool was unsuccesful at implementing the flash. I also tried the LG Mobile Support Tool. Now intermittently I can get the phone into download mode and get the computer to recognize the phone and LG Flash Tool to the ready stage to flash but after that no luck. Any suggestions? I have not tried fastboot or kdz conversions as I dont think those apply to my problem but I could be wrong

I know this sounds ridiculous but I just did it this weekend and IT WORKS. I pre-heated my oven to 350, removed the motherboard (without sim and/or SD card) and placed it in the middle of my oven on a piece of white paper for EXACTLY 10 minutes. Afterwards, I let it cool and re-assembled. My phone is now working perfectly and I didn't lose any data that was on my phone. I was able to back up my data and am still using it, although I am prepared for it to fail again at any point. I know this sounds absurd but it works. I would post the link but I can't until I've placed 10 posts. I thought this was important enough to share with others and that is why I created an account here. If the moderators look at this please add the link. you can just search Google for "lg g3 blue screen fix oven" and it is the first result right now on forums.androidcentral.com. I'm gonna go ahead and use my phone until it dies again, but for the last 48 hours it has been working flawlessly.

[H815] Stuck on lg screen, no bootloop, access to download and recovery ok [SOLVED]

Hi,
I've searched over xda and google before but haven't found anything relevant so I've decided to post my own problem.
My G4 freezed unexpectedly while listening to music, I had to remove the battery to put it off.
But it never passed the LG logo again.
So, i've been stucked on this LG logo, looking for an answer and found about this hardware issue but I'm not certain to get the same error.
It's not a bootloop (even if I sometimes got stuck in bootloop while trying everything to revive my phone), I have been able to get to the download mode and TWRP (which I don't have anymore because I went back to stock using LGUP and LG bridge), even though I hardly get to the download mode now (I sometimes manage to do it though). I've also managed to save my data when I've managed to enter TWRP (plug in, remove battery, push volume down + power while putting battery in) which, people with hardware issue haven't, as far as I know.
I've tried everything I could and wouldn't even be able to describe it all.
Do you guys know how I could be sure if it's hardware or software related ?
Last try: update via Lg Bridge, succeed but still stuck on LG screen.
Thanks a lot !
Flash a lollipop kdz via LGUP, then try the ILAPO (works only with lollipop, no marshmellow) metod, there is a thread on xda.
There is a video on youtube too

I gave a look on what you've suggested, but is that going to let me use the phone or only backup ?
From what I understood (and I might be wrong), this only allows to backup because the phone would be worthless...

You'll be abble to use the phone, but it would be slower duo to the fact that with ILAPO you disable the "2 more powerfull" cpu cores... this metod let only 1 core active from the other 4, if you want to use the other two you have to gain root permissions and install an .apk to reactive the other 3. It's a litle triky but better than nothing I guess
PS: if you dont want to deal with all this bulls**it send it to LG
Same problem
This morning my Lg G4 also got stuck in boot Lg screen. Did you manage to fix your issue or got the data backup ?
sometimes flashing stock LP firmware fix it.. sometimes you must send it back to LG for repair..

I managed to backup, it's a weird trick and you need to have TWRP installed I guess:
- Remove the battery
- Plug your phone (I used my laptop but I'm guessing it also work directly from the charger)
- Push volume down + power
- Insert battery holding those buttons
I managed to enter TWRP and backup with this.
It didn't work at first, I had to try it several times.
I also read you have to keep holding volume down + power until the phone reboot itself once, and then you get access to TWRP but I tried so many times differently I don't remember which one worked best. Anyway, it worked for me that way.
I didn't fix the issue and I sent it to LG... I'm so frustrated, it's been 10 years I'm into this stuff and I always managed to fix everything
Hi guys,
So my G4 just came back from LG, they replaced the motherboard and that's it... A bit disappointed to not having been able to fix it myself but at least, it worked.
I didn't have to pay anything since it was a hardware defect, LG took care of it.
Thanks for those who tried to help, I hope this post would be useful for some with the same issue.

I'm having this same issue out of the blue. Is your serial number one of the infamous "before 509" ones? I'm on TMo with the H811, so it may not be similar at all....but I'm at my wits end. I've never had a spontaneous boot loop happen to me before now. It was always something I'd done.

Interesting... Especially since mine was a 509 or something. I guess they missed some units. Oh well, I just JUMP'ed early with my TMo plan to the G5. That was my second G4 after a similar issue 13 days into owning the first one back in November. Having your phone spontaneously die is quite a fun way to spend your anniversary -____-. I wasn't about to give that model a 3rd try. Thanks for replying.

LGG3 D850 stuck on firmware update screen

So my mom had an LG G3 D850 from at&t. was totally fine, then she updated whatever she had to 6.0 and it started bootlooping. Tried the LG Flash tool with a tot stock firmware. Went through the whole process got the blue screen with the red 3, it restarted, kept bootlooping. Tried it again but then it got stuck on 5% for like 4 hours, unplugged it and now no matter what i do i cant get into download mode. It shows the LG screen then goes straight to firmware update (even if i dont hold vol up) and it says 910K Bxx QEM (the xx changes) I was able to get into recovery mode, recovered it. same thing. Im losing my mind a little bit here so any advice, or pointing me to a tutorial would be greatly appreciated. Ive looked all over the internet and cant find anything helpful apparently the qualcomm thing where you short the motherboard doesnt work for this phone either?

If it is under warranty .send your phone to at&t to get it fixed.

Qualcmomm method you are describing is just to bring your phone into download mode. I have done this to my brother's g3. You have to flash using LG flashtool using different settings and then hard reset your phone. If it doesn't solve your problem.try to replace battery and then use custom rom.
tried that
