Hi,
can you say anything about the GPS? Does it work rather good or rather bad?
If GPS works fine, it would be my next phone!
Thanks in Advance!
Anti

I'm just waiting on mine to arrive. On paper it seems like a great phone for the price! I was fortunate enough to get it on pre-sale with an extra $10US off, so I was stoked. Once it arrives & I have some time to play with it I'll pass on my thoughts.
Thanks for startingthe thread s7yler.
Well I received the phone yesterday. Very impressed straight out of the box. Easy set up & all is as S7yler detailed within his review. Beautiful phone, solid construction, heavy in the hand (some may not like that?) but doesn't feel as "big" & cumbersome as some other 5.5" phablets, screen is beautiful & the styling is classy without being too glarish. In a nutshell, I really like this phone! Also, easily rooted with iroot. Took less than 3 minutes. Now I'll just have to wait for a custom recovery
My only niggle at this stage - 5ghz wifi has been a little flakey at times, but nothing to get frustrated with. Today it's performing perfectly though.

Update: Full review video now also added to post #1

Hey S7yler I watched alot of your youtube videos and i am a fan of your work... I was wondering if there is a way to unlock some of the LTE bands on this phone?

No sorry, not in the States, Oz actually. I've switched on 4G here & it works okay however my carrier doesn't have a great 4G coverage area so haven't had the opportunity to test heavily.

Nice phone! Great review!

LTE bands
Can you check the engineering mode and see what bands are activated? MTK6735 is supposed to be a world mode lte. Can you check if the Band 2(700 mhz) and Band 4(1700 MHZ) are active on this phone?

No they're not & as far as I'm aware they have never been shown or advertised as such. Also, if you check the spec's for this phone on any website selling it, nowhere does it state that they will be active either

Band unlock
Is there a way to unlock these bands since they are already part of the modem?

Just saw the review and the bands 2 and 4 are not supported. I hope someone can come up with a solution to unlock these hidden LTE bands

Gonna get this phone, yet I haven't found a detailed written review...

Hey mightymaki,
I really like the look of this phone. On paper the specs seem good and I like the sound of the build quality. Just wondering how you're finding the battery life? I'm currently on a Moto X 2013 and am looking for a 5.5inch that gives me better screen on time. Currently getting just over 3hrs, maybe 4 at a push. Think the Oukitel can beat it?

Well, based on my experience, you should get more than this. I'm finding I can get a full day & a bit without completely draining the battery (I do turn the phone off of a night though). That would be a day of surfing, e-mails, FB, playing a game or two for 1-2 hrs & all of the other usual playing around with apps that one does when you have a new toy! So basically I find it to not be too thirsty when it comes to power consumption overall.

It's said that oukitel will release a new phone with 10000mAh battery, so crazy, is it really? so i should wait for that one not this U8?

I would say wait on the u9 I have the u8 its GREAT on battery like mightymaki said only drawback for me personally is that I'm in the states and the LTE bands for T-Mobile aren't supported (only supports like 2G..Evo) BUT I have a WiFi signal so I'm ok lol

Received today the U8 its GREAT phone!! :good:
I root with www.kingroot.net.
I will try it the next few days GPS,Battery,Camera,4G,Wifi,e.t.c and report.

GPS is kinda spotty in my tests...WiFi is ok battery is awesome I have had the phone for abt 2weeks and only charged it 3 times with heavy use...games browser music playback etc... 4g I can't test since the T-Mobile bands here are not supported ......I hope there is a work around in the near future

Fingerprint works excellent, very easy to lern how to work
I find and the last rom with flash tool OUKITEL_UniverseTap_V9.0_20150606
Ι did not find custom recovery yet (TWRP-CWM).....

The long awaited Elephone P3000 is now around the corner. Below here you can read the announcement from Elephone. I may get this and post a Unboxing and Review later when I got it. What do you think about it?
•The JDI screen displays sharp and high quality pictures. Meanwhile, power consumption of the screen decreased. There is still power left after heavy use for one day, that has solved the power consumption problem that exists on Android 4.4.2 phones. The camera performs outstanding, and there are lots of options in the menu to fit the different shooting environment. The accuracy of the color reduction reaches 90%. It performs excellent in low light condition.
•Furthermore, the combination of MTK 6592 and 6290 works great for 4G LTE. MTK 6592 is a mature developed Soc that has stable performance regarding running complex functions such as games and multi tasks.
Elephone released the Elephone P3000 in two versions. The P3000 and the P3000S. The Elephone P3000 is the lesser equipped one of the two. The Elephone P3000 comes with a Mediatek MT6582 1.3GHz Quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM memory. The Elephone P3000S comes with a faster Mediatek MT6592 1.7GHz Octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM. Both of the phones have a 720p OGS IPS screen that promises good viewing angles and color reproduction.
Main Features:
Elephone P3000s 5.0 Inch
RAM: 2GB / ROM: 16GB
Android 4.4 KitKat
MTK6592 Octa Core, 1.7GHz / Mali-450MP
Radio/Modem: MT6290
Support micro SD (T-Flash) 128G
NFC Built-in
SIM+micro SIM card, dual standby
Support Gravity/Light/Proximity Sensing System
FM/MP3/MP4/Bluetooth/GPS Function Supported
Note: This phone will only work with GSM+WCDMA+FDD-LTE
Networks: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz FDD-LTE 800/1800/2100/2600MHz
Cons/Minus:
The camera flash is not 100% synchronized with the shutter.
Compass sensor gives erratic output
What should I say....
A MTK6592 quad core combined with a 3150 mAh battery, 4G network , 2GB RAM 16GB ROM, and pretty almost full frequency
Guess that should last forever ...
It seems to be a very good device.....
I've pre ordered, it looks a good phone
Interesting ! I may (pre)order it for a friend.

I think with normal Android UI only. Sometimes Elephone then later upload another ROM in their forum (http://service.elephone.hk/forum.php).

What malfunctions? everything works fine on the phone - you should know if you check the review. Only I must say that the Fingerprint scanner is just a gimmick for me. I don't really use it. And if your fingers are a little sweaty you sometimes have to do it twice before it can scan the finger correct, but it's not a big deal. Things like, WiFi, reception, speed, RAM, GPS, display, 3D games etc. works perfect for me on this device.

I am cautious to buy this device because some elephone devices in the past appeared problems. It's a very low cost devise for these specifications so I am afraid of low manufacture quality.
How would you characterize the external material and the quality of the device?
Do you advise me to risk and buy it?

Well, I already told my opinion in my video review. If you should buy it or not is up to yourself. Everything works fine for me on this phone. Previous Elephone models had problems with the battery draining too fast, or that you had to tap 2 times sometimes before it would react, on the P3000S the touchscreen seems to be better and the battery is also really good.

LOL that is completely nonsense where did you read that? all Elephones comes pre-rooted from stock with SU when you buy them. It have been like that since the G series from Elephone. In my Review video in post #1 you can also see that it has SuperSU installed.

That depends on the provider, in USA the providers don't all use the same network bands. That vary from provider to provider making it very hard to answer that question. The THL 2015 supports 2100/1800/2600/800 MHz on 4G/LTE. Better ask your provider if they support these bands or not.
Good, I am buyer of a phone, it thl 2015 or this jiayu s3, ...
can tell me how is this phone .. it has can put some thoughts on it, bugs ... costum roms, ... and lollipop, update .... thanks
Interesting.
I'm going to be in Europe for part of this summer and while I was leaning towards the Elephone P7000, I was concerned that it would not be available in time. I have settled with this phone, and it should be in my possession shortly. I'm somewhat disappointed it ships with Android 4.4, but I'm hopeful it will receive Lollipop soon.
Does anyone know how heavily skinned this phone is? I'm wondering how close we are to AOSP.
Got one this morning after pre-release ordering at coolicool, with DHL +£15 tax to the UK, seems good so far, expect they'll give us 5.1 from 4.4.4 soon, noticed quite a lot of their stuff here http://www.needrom.com/category/thl/thl-2015 think I'll use Nova launcher for now, just under 41,000 in Antutu, keep us posted if they can be rooted if it's later required.

It can be rooted by VRoot_1.8.2.13135.
I already done that at the weekend.
I tried to create custom recovery by autocreate TWRP with no success.
Gravity box also not compatible with the latest xposed framework yet
Is this any use? http://playfuldroid.com/how-to-root-thl-2015-in-less-than-an-hour
Would there be any version of CyanogenMod available to us if it does start working rooted?

There will only be CyanogenMod if someone makes it for the phone, so far I haven't heard or seen any working on a port for the phone.
Put Bounty On Device?
Does anyone know of any websites that I can use to place a "bounty" on a device? I'd like a 5.0 ROM, and I'd be willing to put money into a pot that is awarded to the first person to complete this task. Does XDA support this?

Compass and Gyroscope
Hi guys, what about compass and gyroscope? Is Google Skymaps working properly. Thank you!
hello! whether on this phone to upgrade to Android 5.0?
No Android 5 update from the manufacturers yet, have had one OTA update from THL but not sure what it did. Does anyone know why some apps find this phone as rooted even without rooting it? I'm trying to get SkyGo to work (they are strict for DRM tv viewing) and also Trustable by Bluebox lists it as rooted out of the box - with some issues that THL should probably be working on too. Is there any way using it rooted to remove all the files that makes these apps think it is rooted then use the unroot option so aps like SkyGo would then work?
Also noticed Recovery TWRP over on needrom if this is any better than iRoot method?

Thanks for your great reviews, they help us to decide which smartphone is worth buying.
Please can you answer these two questions about this phone:
what can you say about the screen? it's comparable to 1080p screens of other brands?
And how is the battery life? I saw an article in the ulefone website about the battery life, do you think it's real?
thank you very much.

And how is the battery life? I saw an article in the ulefone website about the battery life, do you think it's real?
thank you very much.

The screen is good, I don't see any noticeable difference from a 1080p on other China phones.
Regarding battery life I can't say so much yet. It always also depends on what you use (BT, GPS etc), and how much you use the phone during the day.

Thank you very much, but please if you can make a geekbench battery test so that we can compare it with other smartphone it would be very helpfull.

I hope so. He has done the test after applying latest Ota. I have a question for you. You have posted some sample photos on another forum. On those pictures, edges are soft. I have downloaded one to check the exif data. The lens is F/2.8. But as far as I know, in the official spec it was F/2.2. Can you comment on this?

I guess the official specs are wrong then, or the info the camera gives is wrong. All the pictures with my Be Touch are with f/2.8 even after latest OTA.
You can compare with your Jiayu s3 camera data. I am a bit disappointed now.

Hi @s7yler, I was wondering if you could check two things for me, I bought the Be Touch and while I wait for it, want to know as much as I can about it .
So,
Could you please check if there is an option to show the battery percentage on the status bar?
I saw on your video that on Settings there is an option to turn the device ON and OFF automatically, but I was wondering if you could please check that in the Sound setting are the standard Lollipop Interruptions control and if those are working correctly?
Thanks in advance

No you can not show the battery percentage on the status bar (only when you slide down the notification bar, it will show the percentage for the battery also). And yes in the Sound setting there are the standard Lollipop Interruptions controls available.

Actually I wanted to, but now it seems to be hard get my hands on one. Most shops for some unknown reason do not recommend this model.
I know that GearBest have it in stock. As I've been looking at it. Out of interest what phone would you recommend most out of the ones your reviewed? I currently edging towards the Jiayu S3 Advanced (3gb version). But I've read that apparently it comes with malware installed on it. Have you come across this?

No I didn't have malware on mine, and if I had, I would just root the phone and remove the malware. But yeah the S3 is definitely a good choice.

That was exactly what I thought. Plus the S3 comes pre-rooted anyway, so you just have to enable it in the settings. It couldn't be any easier really. The only issue I'm having now is deciding where to buy it from. I've only ever used Merimobiles before. But I've read good things about Banggood and GearBest. Which would you recommend?

mine is totaly different
1 compared to the v1 of elephone p6000 (broken) and v2 p6000 the battery is much cooler is quite cool to the touch
2 my example has a more longer lasting battery they even gave me two covers one transparent and one s-cover clip on
3 i bought it at a later production run actually one whole month after the first gen phones where launched are you sure that phone is really a mijue and not a imitation even unknown phones are copied i think china does not know what copyright infringement actualy means?
4 my supplier never failed me yet can not vouch for other suppliers or customers every one has different experiences
dont like it move on or change you supplier for someone with a better reputation might give you better phones?
just a thought
good luck with your next supplier as the one you've chosen is clearly crooked

Price?
How much it cost?
Wow...HOMTOM look like they have lifted their game... This looks like a really decent phone....I wonder what price tag they put on it. But it certainly does stack up in terms of specs. I would love to be able to have a test run of it. If anyone knows how much please let me know.

Primary Camera is 21MP but video resolution is 2MP.
and I am kind of worry to buy it.

Hi,
was wondering have you got the phone?
I have the phone, the camera is not that great. Decent sensor but too much smoothing. Hopefully can be fixed with a software update.
I have it for over 2 weeks now but not really tested it till now. My phone reboots nearly 10 times every day, thats sad. But there is new software from 2016-09-14 I have not tested yet. First I wanna backup the complete FW but do not find the right files like twrp or something else. MTK Droid Tool can not root the phone too.
Sad to hear all that.
Hope software can render better pictures and solve reboots.
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
Yesterday I made a Download with SP Flash Tool (no Upgrade) and got the new Firmware and a Factory Reset -.-
But the reboot problem still exists
My main complaints with the HomTom HT10
HARDWARE ISSUES
compass isn't available
NFC isn't available (it was advertised but removed!)
OTG isn't available (it was advertised but removed!)
network reception is bad (3G/4G)
Wi-Fi reception is bad (3G/4G)
not detecting/connecting 5Ghz Wi-Fi networks
audio speaker quality (distortion and not enough bass)
battery losing energy way too quickly
camera quality is bad on low light situation
SOFTWARE ISSUES
- battery saving mode is too aggressive (cannot easily modified for a bunch of Apps)
languages preferences are lost if IDLE or turned off (if you set french language it will comeback later to Netherlands. it could be because Belgium country has multiple official languages (french/nederlands/dutch) or if because the smartphone was shipped from .nl post)
- defaults apps choice in settings is too limited
- If you choose to protect your device with a password (PIN/password/pattern) for intrusion your device is going to freeze and you will have to reboot !
- hardware navigation buttons cannot be modified / edited
- HomTom OS is much less complete than MIUI8 (or even UMI OS)
MAJOR MISC PROBLEM:
There is no official forum to post bugs reports !
There is no updates or fixes for those issues announced.
There is no tutorials yet to flash/root.

homtom ht10 scratch
Hello, objection to this cell phone ht10, i know i will not use but i have to write, which is not that it is karst but is rubbish, its gsm connection is not it, even in indoors, means in the room, no signal loses signal if it is covered i lost a total signal, i have a private rental company and because of that karst i lost 20 guests, i did not realize i did not get a signal, android softwer 6.0 is the same karst i can not make a shortcut, i can not call because we the first instructions are inserted and after a couple of typing the connection is terminated or they can only receive the call! all in all the karst scratch of the cell phone!
Yes and I still forgot the camera in the dark room or the object was not flashing the picture was black, wifi bad as it should be rolling, there is more but the lesson is that the device is rubbish, garbage, waste, fuj from the device !!!!!
