Anybody going from G Pro to the G4? - LG Optimus G Pro

I'm curious. Is anybody going from the G Pro to the G4? I've had the G Pro for almost 2 years. Thinking about going to the G4 or wait and see what the Nexus 7 phone will be later this year.

I might. Will be waiting to see how development is gonna go till the end of the year.

Zero LG support makes it hard now for me.
I am thinking of moving next year.

Still no lollipop no support from LG. Thinking to switich to samsung

I have the Samsung S4 active and LG E980---both rooted and the S4 active has Lollipop and faster processor. Guess which phone I use? The LG! The battery life on all my Samsungs just can't compare---they're at 20% by 8:00 PM where the LG is at 60%. Also, the LG is faster and rarely seems to get bogged down. I am curious about the G4 though and it's either that or possibly the Moto. I'm done with Samsung---too much bloat and crap.

But is the G4 a definite step up, or is it a lateral move? I remember looking at the specs for the G3, and it seemed that the OGP still had some Better specs in certain areas. So, if we migrate over to the G4, what if anything will we be losing? I might wait a bit and see if the G4 Note becomes a reality...
Edit: if you like a bright white screen, you might not be happy with the G4. When i did a side by side comparison between the G4 & the OGP, I noticed that the G4 was much dimmer than the OGP, and it had a distinct blue tint instead of the bright white I'm accustomed to. Both phones were set to m max brightness. I'm not sure if the G4 has any sort of tint or tone settings to have caused the blue-ish screen, but it was definitely set set max brightness. It reminded me of the coloring on an Amoled from a Note 2. One thing of note though...when viewed by itself, the G4's screen looked fine! But when placed side by side, there was a marked difference...

Let snapdragon 820 phone come. I will upgrade rather 808 or 810

I miss the home button LED on the ogp.

I played with the G4 twice in the store. The G Pro and the G4 both have the same size screen, but you get more screen to use on the G Pro when you factor in the G4 having onscreen buttons. I wish they had made the G4 with a 5.7 inch screen like the LG Stylus.

Quite honestly, maybe I'm missing something. I messed around with the G4, G3, Samsung S5, S6 and the Nexxus 6 and I noticed very little difference in the LG E980 and these other phones. Screen--not much difference. Reaction time---almost the same. Size---same, thickness---slightly better but nothing crazy.
Honestly, about the only phone I thought was "exciting" was the Iphone 6 plus. But I want external memory and removable battery. Just not excited to upgrade...is there something I'm missing?

Yeah you missing that you are crazy nut. Lol serious thought. I agree on pretty much everything. I do not think the last few years have made a big difference anymore. And the G Pro is probably the best phone you easily can buy for under 150 probably the best one anyway. Because most phones more expensive or same price range have build in battery and those after roughly 2 years aren't lasting anymore. I had to get a replacement for my G Pro because the battery drained within 3 hours. But isn't a big deal since it has a replaceable battery.

I sold my G3, because of a very poor battery life, had to charge it 4-6 times daily, and this G4 is reported to have even poorer battery life than G3 on several sites
so I wont buy g4, there are better alternatives with lower price tags

I moved from the G Pro to the G4. Battery life has been great so far, standby lasted a few days. On screen was near 6 hours with heavy use and the quick charge feature is great! Now that it's rooted and all of the bloat removed, it's an even better phone. The camera is very impressive and crisp. I still have my G Pro and love it however, I just don't turn it on much anymore. The G4 has impressed me to the point that my other devices really don't get touched anymore.

Swapped my OGP with new G4 from a retailer yesterday. Its like riding a Trimph after a base model of Honda. Though a lot of bloatware, but zero lag till now.
Well, need you guys help. Please share inbuilt qhd videos on OGP with me. Searched over on internet but couldn't find anything.

Well I had the S4 for a week before going back to an HTC one and now the G pro. I had the octa core version and it's a nice size, feels very comfortable in the hand, light and has a beautiful display. Nice battery life, great camera, love multiwindow and airview. Also charges fast. But it lags a lot, I mean a LOT. There's been a recent update so maybe that fixed things.
I just got the Optimus G pro yesterday and I love it so far. It's so fast and smooth, I love the transition effects, love the display (really amazing), love the big screen, battery life is the best, charges fast, also has removable battery and expandable storage plus it comes with 32gig. I prefer the G pro but the S4 is great also.
Development is better on the galaxy s 4 side but here we have ppl working hard to unlock the boot loader. Once that's done it's going to be an even better experience. We already have root. I personally would recommend the G pro if you don't mind bigger phones (and honestly it isn't that big). Otherwise s4 is also a great choice. It's up to you.

i had the s3, then went to the note2. i was about to purchase the s4 but bought the xperia zl instead. the small screen size (5inch) was a big factor in why a got rid of the zl for the og pro. try the og pro cuz the s4 is just a hold over to the note3.
I had the s4 for 2 days lots of lag! Og pro is definitely the better device

I was traveling with my GS4 when the lag got to me and I marched into an AT&T store and bought the Optimus G. I have no regrets. The GS4 has a lot of potential, but it's hampered by a poor user experience thanks to the constant lag. The recent update for the AT&T model did not resolve this.
The Optimus G runs buttery smooth all the time and, while it might not have as many features, most of the useful ones are covered and LG even has a few twists of their own that I find preferable.
I had note2 lte , i bought HTC one, s4 and g pro e988 (all lte version) within the first week of June, but now I only got s4 on hand, g pro battery actually no better than half of note 2 lte version, and the thermal control setting is too low, I found that it turn down the CPU frequency when temp reach 37c, once that happened, everything just turn noticeable lag, even got typing problem, tho I type quite fast.. at the end I keep my s4 and gave g pro to my brother and sold the others..

s5 vs G2 my experience

I bricked my g2 while I wait for my replacement I purchased a s5 straight up complete with the case and sd card. I had become frustrations with lg and their lack of of friendliness towards development.
I prefer the G2 the s5 was super easy to root and apply the wifi tether mod. And the heart rate monitor is cool since I'm a gymrat and the added volume. However thats where it stops
G2 has better batterylife a better camera in normal light conditions just as fast and didnt realize how much I like knock on, the qslide apps A lot and the rear power button has grown on me
and the 4 extra hours of battery with the added 1 1/2 - 2 hours of on screen time I miss the g2
lg does not get enough credit for a awesome device
LG makes good phones, but as you said software/updates wise, is where they are lacking. AMOLED is over rated, in web surfing and general use it uses more power than LCD. Websurfing up 2x or more power due to white background.

I agree. I also like how organized the lg g2 Dev world is. Its nice to have mods and Roms that work on all variants. Which means now we have lots of devs technically working together. That's something I've never had in any other phone. Especially my s3 and s4.

I also tried the S5 for awhile, and am now back to my G2. Battery life is so much better on the G2, the camera is comparable, and Knock on/knock off now is indispensable to me... I just hope the QHD in the G3 doesn't end up reducing battery life compared to the G2!
Nice to know… thanks!!

just traded someone my S5 for the G2. there is a price difference but i felt the g2 was a better phone im happy with the switch
I have a quick question...I have a upgrade with Sprint and I have the HTC one right now. I'm trying to decide on weather to wait for the LG G3 or just go with the G2 because it seems like the battery life is better..Or just go with a M8 or S5 what do you guys think

Hi to lg g3 owners
Thinking on gettinf lg g3 or maybe g2 pro. Cause im developing apps on the phone so i need bigger screen that is easier for my eyes. Now im on Vivo Xshots, superb speed n camera but its 5 inches. Is this worth the switch and problem i should aware of g3

G3 Is awesome
I've been using the lg g3 for two months.
I had no issues, everything works great. You might think that with such a high dpi the battery would not last that long, but actually it does.
The performance are great, the customization is huge and the pictures are very good in bright day light, but not that good at night. But you can't do better than that if you don't have a bigger camera on your phone.
It's not very hard to root and there are a lot of custom roms for the phone.
I had an HTC HD2, Motorola Razr HD, S4 mini, Oneplus One and an LG G3. And this is by far the best phone i had.

I am waiting to see the responses you get. I, too, am thinking of getting a new phone. I am still using the Nexus 4. The LG G3 can be had for quite a bit cheaper (at least on AT&T) right now. It is $480 vs. $650 for the Nexus 6.
Hi, I have both.
G3 a little lag, worst camera
N6 less lag, worst battery, and personally I don't like that much the screen, and way too big

I thought the G3 was supposed to have a pretty good camera? It seems everything I read contradicts something else I've read. The battery life is good, the battery sucks. The screen is amazing, the screens nothing special. There's tons of lag, there isn't really any lag. I don't know what to think.

Worst camera than N6, but it's a decent one.
I prefer IPS rather than Amoled, so for me, better screen the G3.

The G3 has an excellent camera. It rivals the iPhone 6 and beats the iPhone 5s.
I would personally take the G3 over the Nexus 6. The G3 has expandable memory and a removable battery. It's also smaller and lighter and it feels better in your hand. The Nexus 6 is just too big as well. Beyond 5.5" phones become too big IMO.

Thanks everyone for your replies on this.
I don't mean to hijack this thread from OP, but would like opinions if it's ok.
I'm torn between going ahead and buying the G3 at it's current AT&T price of $480 (using Next), or waiting on some of the new models that are coming out. Specifically, the Galaxy S6, the HTC M9, the Flex 2, and finally the Asus Zenfone 2. All of those, with the exception of the Zenfone 2, will be at least $650 I presume, therefore the G3 is quite a bit cheaper. So, I'm not sure if the features of these new devices is worth waiting and paying more, or should I just go ahead and get the G3 now with it's $480 price tag?
Thanks again everyone.
My friend has also asked for my opinion whether he should buy a phone now or wait for the next flagships and my advise is : wait for it. The first few new phones should appear in stores in mid March - April, as Snapdragon 810 appears it might be worthwhile to wait for it as it supports 64bit vs the current 32bit.
Anyway, my opinions for OP's question is to go for the Nexus 6. I currently have a LG G3 and i find that its battery sucks (i came from a HTC Butterfly S and LG G2, im quite a heavy user (games, reddit, whatsapp and calls) and my screen on time at most is only maybe 3 to 3 and a half hours at best, while my Butterfly S was able to reach around 5-6hours vs my LG G2 4-5hours. I find that the 2K screen is not worth the battery life at all, its barely comparable with just a Full HD screen, and the processor cant handle it properly.
Camera is fantastic. HTC Butterfly S's camera utilises Ultrapixels (the same as the HTC One M7 and M8) and the G3 beats it completely. It takes miliseconds to snap a photo.
The LG G3 LAGS. Its not the kind of lag you get when you use a low end phone, its more like...microlags. For example - my LG G2 and LG G3 was at one point both running Resurrection Lollipop Rom, and while the LG G2 was really fast and fluid, the G3 feels different, everything seems slower and abit jaggedy, though its not visible ; more like as a gut feeling. Its more like the processor is struggling to handle the screen resolution itself, and somewhat succeeds though not entirely.
If i were you i would go for the Nexus 6, though the price and expandable storage takes some consideration.

1. Batterylife on the G3 is better then with the Nexus 6
2. Tried the new 20H firmware? No lag for me on that rom and i have many apps running in the background.
Just my 2 cents but i think besides your allready mentioned considerations the G3 is the better device because of the many usefull extra features it offers next to barebone android N6.

1. I somehow doubt it with my usage, Nexus 6 is AMOLED too which saves even more battery than G3's IPS screen.
2. Hmm ill try it now, though currently trying CloudyG3. Its not the number of apps it can run, the lag happens during more of its animations even when theres no apps in the background.
I'd choose G3, the nexus 6 is way big for me. The most important is I like the G3 outlook, it's gorgeous
And what about choosing between Sona Z3 vs HTC M8? Or other alike candidate (Samsung is not an option)?

About G3 vs G2, S5

Hey everyone,
I have an option to return my Z2 to Amazon for full refund, and i am thinking buying either G3 or G2 or Samsung S5 so i will use it for some months and then switch to Nubia Z11 when it's out and give this one to my gf or stay with it, we will see.
I noticed that in Gsmarena, the endurance of G3 is lower than G2 (http://www.gsmarena.com/battery-test.php3 - with 2 hours talking, 3 hours browsing, 2 hours video), i assume because of the screen. Do you manage to have a 2days battery with it? My Z2 can do that without a problem at the moment.
I can find G3 32GB the same price as G2 but i am thinking what's the best in general. The S5 goes a bit more expensive, but it has also the water-proof capability that its something nice too. The size of G3 versus G2 its something i am concerned, but it has better specs ofc.
Ty in advance for any possible help
I can't answer yours specific questions, but I own both and regarding the differences between G2 and G3:
G3 have a better battery life. I usually get more than 5 hours of screen time + 2 hours talking. I use the phone a lot so I can't say if will hold for 2 days or not. Depend on your use, I guess.
G2 feels smooth while G3 it's kinda laggish. Feels like G2 have better specs. Both are running custom rom and I have the G3 version with 2GB of RAM.
The size difference is not even noticeable.
Pictures are better on G3, but both have good cameras.
But that's just my opinion about the two phones and I'm not a "heavy tester" either.
You should definitely go with G3. Only point in which G2 is probably better is battery and not by much. In all other aspects G3 is better device and it is still officially supported. G3 already recieved Marshmallow 6.0 whereas G2 is mentioned not to be supported further than Lollipop. Especially if you can get both for same price, it should be a no brainer which device you should pick up.
If size is what matters to you the most, rather go for G2 than S5.
Galaxy S5 is utter trash. It was trash since the day it was released. Don't get it, you will regret it as soon you boot up the phone.
Thank you for your replies
In my case I went from 2GB G2 to 3GB G3 and G3 is much faster but G2 is more fluid. G2 doesn't drop as many frames as G3 but G3 is faster. Battery is same for me.

Have both and can tell you the G3 is the better phone.
MM is really good and is about to be released officially.
U can also turn off QHD which transforms the phone into a G2 with SD, removable battery, insane battery life and larger screen!
When you're ready you can turn QHD back on to watch movies etc....
Its not bad at all. I'm using it stock and is really fast especially with animations all turned off
This is coming from someone who loved his G2 to death
