Debrand LG G4 - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can I debrand my LG G4?
where can I find the original no brand firmware for uk?
and how to flash it?
if someone can help, I really aprreciate.

Can I use something like this on a T-Mobile version?

You'll have to wait for the bootloader to get unlocked. Each phone will only allow your carrier-specific firmware to be flashed with the locked bootloader, which is why only the international version has root for now.

I have the H815 version, so I think it is possible to unlock the bootloader, right?
But then where can I find the firmwares? for Samsung is very easy because there is the samfirmware, but for LG?
Where to find a guide to do it?
thanks

Nobody can help?

Carrier versions can not be unlocked at the moment

I'm so sad to have taken this phone and not the s6......

marko68, the G4 only came out last week in the UK unfortunately you'll have to wait a few weeks because features you request start to appear. The S6 has been out quite a bit longer.

Yep a bit of patience is all that's required

Unlocking T-Mobile M9 phone?

I have a question and could find an answer, well maybe a few... First if you have an unlocked version of the m9 directly brought from HTC all updates come from them not any carriers? With that being said if you by a T-Mobile version and get an unlock code from them will updates still come from them or HTC?

HTC updates the phones sold through HTC. Any phone with carrier branding has HTC submitting their software to the carrier, and then it's released after carrier approval. It makes no difference if the phone is locked, unlocked, used on a different network, etc.
The only way you can go about getting updates directly from HTC in the past is through S-Off and a CID change, effectively changing your device ID, but A: I'm not sure if this is still the case and B: If you're asking the question that you asked, this is going to be a bit too complicated for me to explain at the moment. So the simple answer is No.

If you unlock the phone you will have to manually update the phone. If you stay stock you will get updates from T-Mobile, although they will lag the official (and XDA unofficial) releases by a substantial time.
Most folks unlock because they want to flash a custom ROM anyway, and will get updates on that ROM, rather than HTC or T-Mobile.

hmmmmm actually depends on which UNLOCK. If he meant unlocking it to make it carrier free but leaving everything stock then it'll update automatically. If he unlocks the bootloader but still remains stock without changing anything then it'll be auto still. I believe the only time you need to manually update is when you alter the recovery partition of the phone (installing custom recovery CWM/TWRP/etc) which means you'll probably run a custom rom, which also prevents automatic updates.

I'm assuming he meant unlock the bootloader, not the carrier. But I personally would not go to the trouble of unlocking the bootloader unless I was going to go custom ROM.

yeah I got that, but he said unlock code and from T-mobile so I deduced it to carrier unlocking lol.
Well I actually already unlocked the boot loader and using custom ROMs so not that be of a deal more so for my understanding. So if everything was stock and just got an unlock code from T-Mobile to unlock the device and say used the phone on AT&T or Verizon where would the updates come from ? The carrier you are on at the time or HTC?
By the way that's for the help and responses guys!

You are not going to get updates for a T-Mobile phone while on an AT&T network, even if you stayed stock. I don't think the download would work, and even if it did the ROM would not work with your variant. I think they will detect that your phone is not AT&T and not even offer the update.
It sounds like you have installed a custom ROM. In that case you won't get OTA at all, from anywhere; you simply update the ROM when the developer releases a new version.

I need help again.

Hello Developers, again I need assistance. I have decided to put a T-Mobile SIM into the LG H815 that I got from LG, but ran into an issue trying to get the Unlock Bootloader from LG. The site says I cannot get the .bin because I am in the US but I have heard you can root the phone to access the bands that are inaccessible, ie. band 12. Can anyone help be figure a work around for this? Thanks in advance.
The bootloader unlock doesn't go by your physical location. It goes by your IMEI and specific model. Not all the H815s can be unlocked. Which do you have?

Hi, on the 'Unlock' thread, some people where having your problem and resulted that it was happening because the phone was actually a US version. Have a read http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/lg-g4-t3125162/page19

H812 VS other model numbers and ROMS

Hi, I'm looking to purchase a H812 Canadian LG G4 and I'm wondering if I would be able to use H815 or H811 roms on the H812? I looked into the android development section and there isnt a single rom built specifically for H812..
No
At the moment there are only roms for those cause they are the only ones with unlocked bootloaders that I know of also there aren't roms for any of the US variants because locked bootloader

Is there news of the bootloader getting unlocked in the near future for 812? Also does that also mean ROOT is not possible on 812?
$%#% me, get a H812 and only the H815 has unlocked bootloader. Why do the canadian variants always get shafted.
I knew the 0 dollar 2 year contract was too good to be true. I can live without custom roms for a while(please get twrp on it when possible)
but no root using an easy app. ughhhh....... really?!!!!
I hope they get on the move with a root method such as towelroot.
Any news on unlocked bootloader?

You can root the H812. See this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/canadian-guide-complete-source-lg-g4-t3212449
Follow instructions on the root threads as you will have root. Extremely simple.
Doubt you will ever see an unlocked bootloader unfortunately

any root image for V20C download ?

I don't think there is any. We never saw 20c.

Have you tried Systemless Root? If it works, there'd be no need to wait for a repacked boot.img to get root. If it works, please report back so I can add the H818N on 20C to the list of Systemless Rootable devices.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Systemless Root only works for bootloader unlocked devices and since there are no 818 models that are bootloader unlocked, that automatically cancels out the possibility that systemless root will work at this time.
Still hoping and keeping fingers crossed that someone will figure out a way to unlock the bootloader.

Root h815 with locked bootloader?

Hi.
I have just purchased a used h815 and when I went to unlock via the official lg website, I was informed that my phone was a US variant, and unlock was not available.
I'm currently running 20h.. is there any way at all given the locked bootloader to
A) get root access?
B) install cm13?
If the answer is no.. i think I'll be sticking this back on eBay...
Thanks!
