ASUS Zenfone 5 root for WW-2.22.40.54 (4.4.2) firmware - Zenfone 5 General

This is rooting script only for ASUS Zenfone 5 (T00F/T00J) with official WW-2.22.40.54 (4.4.2) firmware.
Upgrading will unroot your phone.
If you want to have rooted lollipop, find another rooting solution.
8. April 2017 note: I don't use anymore this phone and I can't help with questions. Rooting method should still works. Sorry for the inconvenience.
If this rooting solution doesn't work, probably you're doing some wrong. There's several thousand people (or more) from around the world which successfully rooted and fixed theirs phones. If you have any questions or problem - please read first whole thread. I'm trying answer all questions and I place the most popular in first post.

Read manual

Older version of firmware
Do you have older version of firmware? Update it and apply rooting script.
Download official firmware (select android -> firmware, and search site with phrase WW_2.22.40.54)
Newer version of firmware
I actually doesn't like lollipop and I don't provide any support for rooting newer android. Probably there are available other solutions. At this moment the 2.22.40.54 version is the newest kitkat for Asus Zenfone 5.
"No camera is found" bug
Do you have "no camera is found" problem? This script fixes this. I spend few long days to fixing "no camera is found" bug after applying shakalacka's rooting script. And I GOT IT! I mixed shakalaca and Vipin Arumugham solutions. Thank you guys!
How update firmware by sideload method?
Boot your phone to recovery mode.
When "No command" message appears, press and hold down volume button, and press once (still holding down volume) up volume button. You are now in recovery menu.
Select apply update from ADB.
Connect phone by USB cable to your computer.
Run from terminal: adb sideload new-firmware.zip
Note: you can sideload only firmware with the same or higher version. Firmware can be downgraded too, but this is little more complicated.
Unroot
Eh, really? Why do you want to unroot your phone? Use sideload method to apply firmware again (yes, with the same version). This will format your /system partition and install whole android system again.
Thanks for every mentioned person! Your comments, messages and other help is really great!

I suggest update to 2.22.40.54 first. You can download this from official website. After update, you can safely use my solution.

i'll download the firmware. one more question, do i have to boot the phone to droidbot for applying this method?

Yes, you need reboot to bootloader.
If you're on linux, just run .sh script and it will do everything for you. There's manual for other system.

Hi, thank you for this solution..
there's a chance that it could work also with 2.21.40.44? I think that most most people with this problem has the same firmware...

Is there any reason to not use 2.22.40.54? It is the newest kitkat for our phone. Just download the firmware, update, and use rooting script.

The reason is that with the previous root... you are not able to upgrade
Just tried this morning :good: :good:
With the old root tool you are not able to:
-make an hard reset
-upgrade to the new firmware
if you try comes out an error...

First, sideload firmware 2.22.40.54 (long process).
Second, do the basic setup after your phone turns on (unlock dev options, turn on usb debugging).
Third, turn off and go to bootloader (droidbot), do all the things in manual.
Finally, you are golden.

Hi there,
Okay the process you linked (assuming it went well) should have provided you with a rooted device with S-OFF.
Have you tried rebooting the phone into recovery? Did you download your ROM via ROM manager? At what point did your phone start "going crazy"?
As much information about the issue as possible will help us to help you

now you must to download the PD95IMG file for restore your device...download it from here..
http://www.multiupload.com/BTJ8KY0KH9
its a .zip file...
then you should to put this file into the root of sd-card... repeat not in any folder...

This is the one I have used the last 5 times under a variety of messed up situations and it always works. READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND TAKE YOUR TIME. It seems like a lot to do but it is not that bad after the first time you have all the files. Make a "Phone" folder on your computer and put all the files in there and keep everything nice and tidy. Follow the instructions and it will fix just about everything.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302660
P.S. When you get everything downloaded and unzipped..and you start flash tools with a # you found on the internet..maybe something like 39B0-IH19-4UAO-G6T8. you have checked manual mode on flash tools and put in the file locations in the top two slots, and you finally hit the yellow arrow at the top left....it will say "waiting" for about a minute. THIS IS NOT waiting on you to plug phone in!! You plug phone in when it says ready and that window with "waiting" goes away. Do not unplug the phone either just because it reboots. You need to wait until the bar turns blue and it says complete. This happens around 522 seconds or after.
this just saved my phone from being stuck on recovery! thanks!
I wonder if anyone has solved the battery issue with this method ????
Many users report that while using this method all goes well till around 45% complete and they get a message "Can not continue due to low battery level, please charge phone fully and try again".
This despite the phone being fully charged.
A very common problem it seems.

TAB S T805 bricked while updating to LOLLIPOP 5.0.2

Hey everyone,
I just bricked my T805. I was following this guide:
[OFFICIAL] LOLLIPOP 5.0.2 /SM-T800/ SM-T805/ Firmwares T800XXU1BOCC / DOWNLOAD / ROOT
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/samsung-lollipop-range-tab-s-t3021612
Installing Lollipop Firmware
Instructions:
1. Download the needed firmware from above.
2. Download Odin_3.10.0 from the attached file below
3. Open Odin, select AP and than select your firmware.
4. Make sure you have installed all samsung drivers
5. Shut down your Tab S.
6. Open download mode by holding volume down, home button and power button.
7. Connect it to your PC.
8. LEAVE EVERY THING AS IT IS IN ODIN, OTHERWISE THERE WILL BE A CATASTROPHE (If you select something wrong.)
9. When your tablet is connected, there will be a blue box in odin.
10. Hit start and wait
11. It will reboot and you will get the latest firmware from samsung.

So I was in Download mode, klicked on Start in ODIN.

You're almost there, you have nothing more to do than boot to stock recovery then wipe the cache.
The tablet will then successfully boot to lollipop.

Ok I finally managed to get into download mode again. So i'm in Odin Mode. But please, can you explain why I should flash the UAE version?

You're almost there, you have nothing more to do than boot to stock recovery then wipe the cache.

I can't boot to stock recovery. I only managed to get into download mode. Recovery is not working.
UAE as it flashes nicely it's got the highest change list and it's clean - no bloat. I flashed it earlier today.

UAE is the country code for United Arabian Kingdoms, but I have a german device. Well it's not going to be worse than it is, so i will give it a try. Thanks, I will report back.

All you have to do is flash one.
I live in the UK, the firmware region makes little difference apart from that it can determine the bloatware you get. You will get offered the next OTA from the region you are in: but you can always manually flash any newer ROM.
Thank you very much all. I got it working, POWER+VOLDOWN to resrart, instantly HOME+VOLDOWN+POWER to switch to Download Mode. Connecting to PC, flashed UAE version with ODIN. TAB runs good now! Apps and Data were not cleared/wiped.
Thanks again!

Rooted Elephone P8000 stucks at Boot Logo after OTA Update

Hi there,
The phone is rooted.
I've proceeded with the latest update today (~12mb size), don't remember the exact version.
It said it fixes some system bugs, etc.
After the update installed the phone won't load, stucks on the changing color logo.
Cannot access the recovery mode option in the boot menu (Vol+Power), says "no command", if press and hold Vol+ and Power again the phone restarts and enter the boot logo again.
Has anyone ideas how this can be fixed?

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/elephone-p8000/help/boot-loop-ota-upgrade-t3246203.
Post #16 describes how get into recovery from the 'no command' screen, and my post #12 describes how I managed to get it flashed using the SP Flashtool.
(Note my point no,5 - all I needed to do is press 'Download' first, THEN attach the powered off phone.)
Good luck!

Thanks a lot fot pointing this out.
Managed to get the recovery options menu.
However wiping the cache didn't help.
After doing the "root integrity check" got this:

do you think this can be fixed w/o reflashing an entire rom?
Oooh. Brighter minds than mine might correct me, but I think the bootloop is only fixed with a ROM flash

Actually, what you need to do is format the data partition or write the empty data.img file over the data partition which in effect does the same thing. And the later one is also what happens when your download entire rom using sp flash.

In that case you probably need to flash the system.img and maybe even the boot.img from the latest rom. Elephone really should stop sending out these broken OTAs...

I didn't read official forum. However you do loose your warranty if device is rooted, thus the device manufacturer owes you nothing. OTA worked fine before I rooted my device.
Btw, I got my phone back to life by re-flashing the entire ROM, just in case.

The only thing you need to do is reinstall the añl the system with spflashtool. Never and remember never you can update any android with a ota if you are a rooted user.
If you speak spanish you can search in the youtube channel AndroidMxL to ser how you can reinstall the original ROM on your android.

2. First, enable the developer option in your zenfone 5. To enable developer option, go to 'about phone' in settings and then go to 'software information' and click 'build number' seven (7) times.
3. After clicking build number seven (7) times, go back to settings menu and there you will find developer option menu. Just click it and scroll down untill you will see "android debbuging". Turn "android debbuging" on.
4. So after activating android debbuging, now shut down your phone.
5. Once your phone is turned off, now go to bootloader mode.To do this Just press power button + volume up button together untill you see asus logo. This will open bootloader window.
6. Now, connect your phone to your PC. (After connecting your phone to PC, open command window and type " fastboot devices " (without quotation mark) and hit enter. If your device is listed there then you are ready to go. Now close that command window which you have opened.)
7. Once your phone is connected to your PC, now open tool folder (which you have downloaded from the above link and unzipped it).
8. Now click on "unlock bootloader(DroidBoot)" or Click on "Unlock bootloader + install twrp" (if you want to unlock bootloader with twrp installed)" and click on run.
9. Now a command window will pop up, all you need to do is just press any key to start the process.
10. Once the process starts your phone will reboot several times, don't get panic.
11. This entire process will take roughly 2 minutes.
12. Once it's done now press any key to close the command window. YOU HAVE JUST UNLOCKED YOUR BOOTLOADER.
Now after unlocking bootloader, check your screen whether it's freezing or not. And also open the camera app to check whether it's working properly or not.

( NOTE: IF YOU FOUND SCREEN FREEZE OR YOUR CAMERA IS NOT WORKING THEN JUST RELOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER AGAIN . .
Just Relocking bootloader doesn't solve the problem of camera. We need to flash fastboot.img boot.img recovery.img of stock 2.21.40.30 or 2.22.40.54 then adb sideload 2.21.40.30 or 2.22.40.54 firmware.

It seems like after unlocking bootloader your screen gets freeze issue. So don't proceed next, just relock your bootloader again.
