[MODEM]/[RADIO] [20B] TMO D851 LG G3 Lollipop Only - T-Mobile LG G3

I was having a problem trying to find the modem for my D851 here on XDA. There were many plainly listed for D855 and other models of the G3. I am using Paranoid/ASOP 5.1.1 Rom and I accidentally flashed a D855 radio. Rookie mistake, I know... And thought I backed up the modem along with the system files. Well I didn't and lost my imei, apn, signal and all... So while searching and again not obviously placed easy to find I read a thread and found one, flashed it, and it returned everything to normal without having to flash back to stock rom and blah blah blah... From what was listed, this for L 5.0 and up.
1. Boot phone into recovery, preferably TWRP
2. Flash the modem zip DOWNLOAD: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xz26z91hej9ryz3/LGD851.20B.MODEM-iNb4TMO.zip?dl=0
3. Reboot
I didn't make the radio, nor take any credit for its creation. I'm just trying to make it easier for T-Mobile D851 users on Lollipop to find incase they have deleted or lost theirs like I did...
I am not responsible for any issues or problems that may be encountered by using this.
I hope this help those in need like it helped me... Please let me know...

Im currently having a major issue with the lollipop update. I had my d851 with t mobile and I wouldn't lose lte when I would make a phone call... I currently switched to metropcs and now when I make a phone call I lose lte and my signal drops to 4g. I tried everything... APN, restoring the phone, called metro like a thousand times and nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Flashing the 30D modem seemed to help quite a bit, the signal will drop to 4g while you're on a phone call but the data is alot faster. Give it a try, it worked for me.

Well, I went camping over the weekend and of course the phone dropped service again. The cell signal was weak and the data was almost non-existent. Luckily I brought an old phone, re-activated it, and was good with LTE signal. My question is would flashing a different modem help? I have the LG-D851 with SW version D85130e so I assume that has the 30e modem. Is that correct and would the 30d modem be better? Thanks.

No idea. Could be something else (mechanical) causing the issue. 30e is the latest for our phones. You can also drop it down to 30d & see if it is any better.

That's what I was hoping to do but was trying to see if there was a way to just install the 30D modem instead of loading the entire phone with the older SW version and having to re-install all of my apps. I downloaded the modem file but after doing some research I couldn't figure out the procedure to install it. I saw a few videos about a TWRP recovery but I prefer not to root my phone. If I have to root it in order to get it working then I will...I just wish I could figure out what the issue is. I saw a few other people mention issues with the LTE setting defaulting back to WCDMA/GSM (which I experience) and they said the 30E modem could be the issue. The phone was just wiped clean a few months ago before I bought it from the previous owner.

yeah without having root, your options are limited. If you own the phone, I would say go for it, if you are leasing it, then take it back to where you got it & tell them it's reception sucks.

I own it and bought it second hand. According to the previous owner he didn't have any issues with it but who knows. I assume if I root it and load the 30D SW I will have to load everything from scratch? Is there an LG backup program for this phone? Thanks for the help.

Restore from SD card
From any home screen, tap Apps.
Tap Settings.
Scroll down to 'DEVICE,' then tap Backup & reset.
Tap LG Backup service > Backup & restore.
Tap Restore from backup.
Locate and tap the SD card backup.
Tap Next.
Review the warning information, then tap OK to confirm.

I have the TMo version (D851) & the first thing I did was root it & install a custom ROM to get rid of all the Tmo crap that is stuck onto it. ugh! I don't use my phone all that much for calls, mostly emails data & music playing, so losing the stock Wifi Calling function wasn't an issue for me. Currently on the OctOS Nougat weekly builds, tremendous ROM, great battery life fast & smooth & decluttered. Since you already own the phone & do not have a warranty, you've nothing to lose here. Do some reading in the threads on how to do it, you'll be very happy once you see how much better your phone can be. You put on it only what you want to put on, less junk, less memory hogging.

Try flashing 4.3 rom from scratch (wiping dalvik cache, data/factory reset and cache partition) ? May be this will help fixing problem
If you want you can try Stock Rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589891
Also make sure you have an APN set. @Bajanman has compiled a list of several AT&T APNs in his thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2172110
I had a similar issue and this post helped me.

They are not hacking my friend...
Have you verified that your IMEI and EFS folder are normal ?
And have you verified your APN settings for your carrier ??
You mention flashing several roms on the device...
The items I listed will help you determine if any damage has been done....and also help you get service again...
All are knowledge you must have to prevent bad things from happening...
If your carrier did an official update to 4.3 while the device was rooted and running custom firmware....then you absolutely need to start fresh to clean the device up again...
Are you getting Knox errors or force close issues ??
Basically....in order to help you we need a detailed status of the device...
Software version....kernel version ....and baseband.....
The information is in settings/about phone/....and will tell us how best to proceed....g

Reading your first post, ATT flashed your phone to the latest update??? And changed the SIM? And that didn't work?
Why did you leave the store when your phone didn't work?
They told me they can't do nothing about it and the warranty was voided too.

Interesting. I'm asking questions I guess really dont matter.
But why was warranty voided, or was it expired?
Again more confusion.... Just wondering why they changed sim, flashed update, then told you to hit the street with a broke **** phone.
I can understand not replacing it, warranty whatever.
I took an Atrix2 phone into the shop, no working data. I had called tech support, they had OTA refreshed it, didnt work. Set me up with tier 2 tech support, more resets. Nothing.
Went into store, got another sim. Turns out it was simple. I had turned off the data plan awhile back until I was ready to give it to my daughter.
Got online, picked a plan. Data lite off.
Point is they worked with me to find the problem on a phone that was 2-3 years old.
You probably should follow me how to in this section and flash the stock 4.1.1 and go from there.

Well you have nothing to lose at this point then.
I doubt you will find a canned click next solution.

[Solved] [Q] Bought new S3 from Amazon, can't update

I recently bought a new "Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB SGH-T999L 4G LTE White - T-Mobile" from Oakland Wireless via Amazon. This is for my fiancé, to replace her broken iPhone 4s. After popping in her T-Mobile sim card, the phone seems to work fine. However, the WiFi calling feature seems to be missing and when we try to perform a software update it ends with "process failed". The installed Android version is 4.1.1.
She went to a T-Mobile store to see if they could help. They were also unable to get the phone to update, and eventually told her that it would never work simply because we didn't buy the phone from T-Mobile. They also told her it would only be a talk and text phone, and wouldn't get data service. However, this last part is clearly false, as she has been using data without any problem.
Does anybody have experience with this issue? Were the folks at the T-Mobile store correct or mistaken?
Also, assuming they are correct and the phone can't be updated over the air, can I just download and install a stock ROM with the latest version and WiFi calling? I have a custom ROM installed on my Galaxy Exhibit, so I am familiar with installing ROMs, but my fiancé doesn't want a custom ROM, she wants stock.

Well first of all the T999L released with 4.1.2 so something doesn't seem right, and it may be why its not updating. Not sure if I should try to do the OTA update or one of the complete firmwares. Any idea why there is no OTA update for 4.3?

Hmmm. Maybe I got the version wrong or maybe it's not really a T999L? She isn't here with the phone right now, so I'll have to get back to you.
I stopped posting the OTA's simply because they're next to useless for us. Fladhing the firmware via Odin has a much greater success rate snd OTA's are notorious for causing all sorts of problems. Just wasn't worth the trouble to post them anymore.
I attached the screenshots from the phone info app. Looks like maybe it's not the LTE model after all? I looked behind the battery, and it also says SGH-T999 with no "L" on the end.
The strange thing is that it shows an LTE mode in the network settings. However, I've never seen it actually use LTE mode, even though T-mobile says it should work at our location (Seattle). Using the Ookla speed test app, I get ~4 Mbps down (the same speed as my Galaxy Exhibit).
I'm thinking about returning the phone if it is not the correct model. I'm curious though, if I try updating the firmware and it doesn't work, can I restore everything exactly to it's current state before I return it? I don't want them to refuse the return because I messed with the firmware.
Ok looks like you got a Frankenstein phone.. That's an at&t bootloader with a Canadian product/model name & T999 build that I've never heard of.. I would just return it or ask for an exchange, not worth it to keep messing with it
Yup. Another one! And its got a csc from the I9300! The LEM build, if I remember right, was the original stock 4.0.4 firmware. But there is way too much conflicting info there for me to be comfortable recommending much of anything.
I just installed that app to make sure it wasn't giving bad info, and it is showing everything correctly for mine.
As for the LTE showing up in the menu, that isnt too uncommon. If you want to know what you are really connected to, check Settings, About Device, Status, Network Type. Best to do this during a large download.
But aside from it being a franken-phone, everything that is related to the T-Mobile model points to it being a non-LTE T999.

[Q] Cyangenmod 11 Help!

Hello,
Ive attempted to install CM 11 M8 SNAPSHOT (the most recent) with a compatible GAPPS package. Im using TWRP 2.7.10 and I did a full wipe (Formatted Data, wiped Dalvik, System, and Cache, basically everything except Internal Storage). I flashed Cyanogenmod, then flashed GAPPS, rebooted and got stuck into a bootloop where the LG logo would be there for a few seconds, go away, then come back and repeat. I know how to recover my phone but I would love to get CM working. Any ideas?
Did you take the Sprint OTA update before you flashed CM? If so, you'll have to downgrade your radio from LS980ZVA/C to LS980ZV7/8. This is because the ZVA and ZVC updates patch Loki and break compatibility with other ROMs (like CM). I had this issue and tried flashing CM probably 10 times before I understood the problem.

You will lose Sprint Spark compatibility if you downgrade your radio to anything lower than ZVA. LS980ZVA introduces the Tri-Band spectrum (which Sprint nicknamed "Spark"), so if you're radio is below ZVA, you won't have Spark.

I went with CyanogenMod as I don't use Spark often. But if you're in an area with good Spark coverage, that's definitely a hard choice.
Personally I literally don't have coverage at my house. Sprint gave us an Airave as a customer retention policy. But I would have 4G LTE at my college campus.

My data connection at home is hit or miss, the ROM I use says I have Spark but idk the difference of when Im on Spark or LTE within the ROM, also I dont think I actually have Spark in RI so that may be leaning me towards CM instead. LTE is good enough. Do I just have to contact Sprint and tell them I have spotty connection to get an Airave and is it portable (college, unlike yours, has TERRIBLE Sprint service)? If so CM is a definite choice.

You would have to be in a "No Service" or "Off-Network Roaming" area according to Sprint's Nationwide Coverage Site. Where I live is an "Off-Network Roaming" area. When we moved here we got an email from Sprint about not having coverage. If, according to the site, you have no signal at your house, you should call them and ask about it.

No, it connects to your router/modem via ethernet cable and has an antenna that sticks to a window to provide GPS and phone coverage.

The following may not be true! I believe that Sprint's Spark is LTE. But I don't know much about the differences between CDMA/GSM/3G/4G/WiMax/LTE/Spark/Edge/etc. so don't take that for granted.
Ill just give it a shot! If I lose LTE with the old radio Ill just flash a stock ROM. Probably learn a few things on the way. Thank you for your help! Final question, can you point me to a radio downgrade guide? Kinda hate fishing through forum threads.

Yeah no problem. I found that in order to get the radio to stick I had to reset the phone using the ZV8 TOT file and LG Flash Tools. If that is the case I can help with that. Otherwise check out this thread. Savoca wrote a fairly good tutorial on getting ROMs working on the G2 and what all the different radios are/do. If you follow his directions and can't get CyanogenMod working, you'll have to restore to a TOT.
Glad to help!

While I'm pretty savvy with windows, this is my first android product. I have my LG G2 LS980ZVC rooted, and I want to install Cyanogenmod 11. I have the nightly from yesterday downloaded to my PC.
As I understand, I need to downgrade my software to get rid of Spark.
1) Which version should I downgrade to?
2) Where can I find files like that?
3) Should I back up my current setup before I do?
4) The FreeGee software says it doesn't support ZVC, and so I am unable to install the backup software through there (I was trying to follow this youtube tutorial [turns out the url is prohibited before I post more!]). If I should backup, what backup software should I use instead?
Once downgraded, I need to install cyanogen mod. Can I follow that video tutorial? If not, then I'm going to end up asking a lot more questions.
That thread you linked has a whole lot of red letters saying I don't belong there unless I already understand a bunch of stuff I don't. So how do I learn those things?
Cheers!

Okay, first things first, unless you're pretty experienced with Android and CyanogenMod, flashing, etc. I would not recommend using a nightly build. Nightly builds are great for getting every possible update as soon as possible, but as an update is made (and released on the next nightly) other problems may crop up. I would recommend using cm-11-20140708-SNAPSHOT-M8-ls980.zip <-- That is the direct download link.
For future reference, I would suggest using versions from the Release Channel as those are considered "stable."
Now that that's out of the way, let's tackle the next issue.

Yes, you have to downgrade your software/radio. I used LS980ZV8, it's the latest Sprint release before Spark. If you'd prefer to go one step further back, you could use LS980ZV7 (the first release).

Download Flashify from the Google Play Store.
Download this recovery (TWRP)
Put the recovery on Internal Storage
Open Flashify
Select Recovery Image
Select the file you just put on there
Follow on-screen instructions.
Note: I am assuming you have rooted your LS980, if you haven't let me know.

Touche about the red letters, good point. Yes you can probably follow the video, but if you want I can help walk you through it. The main reason I linked that thread was so people could try to get an understanding about what the radios are and why it's such a PITA to flash non-AOSP ROMs. Hope this helped, feel free to PM me.
Alright, I'm downloading the LS980VC8 (2.1Gb) and the snapshot you mentioned. Since I live in the boonies, that 2 gig download will take all day.
How did you chose that snapshot? I looked at the LS980 downloads and filtered by stable, and nothing came up.

Well I read the thread and I used a Furnace kernel to keep the ZVA radio and I successfully installed Cyanogenmod but I have no service at all ): any ideas?

something changed in cyanogenmod to make it not work. looks like you need the V8 modem again.

Well that's dissapointing :/ I was so excited to be able to use it still. Guess its back to stock again.
As far as I know you *have* to have the ZV8 radio. But maybe not. I trust that you backed up your efs partition? If so try restoring it, that could be the issue.

It should be in your ioroot foler. The latest version of ioroot automatically backs up your efs data (imei and modems)

I rooted with towelroot so I didnt have an ioroot folder. Besides I had already restored back by then. Can I use TWRP to back up my EFS?
EDIT: Nevermind, a better question is how do I RESTORE my EFS? Do I flash it right after Ive flashed the ROM, Kernel, and GAPPS?

[Q] What is going on with my LTE (after downgrading to KK from L)??

A bit of background on my device - I have a D855 from HK. I flashed the rooted Lollipop by @Skin1980 but decided to go back to KK. While on L, my LTE didn't work. Now that I've downgraded to KK, if I have the phone set to LTE/GSM/WCDMA, the phone will boot up with LTE working. As soon as I go into the Phone Info screen to change it to WCDMA preferred, it will go on H+. If I want to go back to LTE, the phone pick up the LTE signal for half a second and then lose it. The only way I can get it to get back on LTE is if I reboot the phone.
The reason I do this is because I get a better H+ signal in most places than I do the LTE signal so I leave it on H+ to conserve battery life as I'm mostly on wifi and I change it to LTE when I need to download large files when I'm not on wifi.
I have already flashed the KK Modem file that was provided by @Skin1980. This never happened before I upgraded to L and then downgraded back to KK. Does this happen to anyone else who has downgraded and does anyone know how to fix this?
Try flashing the kk modem a couple more times, for some reason modems can be a bit tricky and dont always flash properly, can some times take several flashes before they seem to stick
if this doesnt work then maybe the modem is for the international d855 and not for the hk rom your using?

I tried installing it several times but it didn't help. I wasn't aware there was more than one modem for different regions. I was always on an HK modem before and it works here in the UK. But after I applied the KK modem skin1980 provided for downgrading to KK from L, I started seeing this issue.
If I turn the radio off and then back on, it'll lock onto an LTE signal some of the time. But if I set the modem to LTE only, it will find the LTE signal for half a second, then lose it and cannot find it again....
Well it sounds like the same sort of problem some get using the lp modem on kk rom, maybe try installing a custom rom like cloudy if your models supported, failing that try a full wipe and flash kdz again

[Q] vs985 problems after downgrade. advice?

I got my phone around the begining of last month and decided the other night that it was time to root as I have rooted every android device I have owned since the wildfire s. I had previously taken the OTA so I was on vs98512b. I used LG flashtool to downgrade to vs98510b. The downgrade it's self went fine. I then rooted using stumproot again nothing out of the ordinary. I downloaded Supersu and enabled survival mode. I tried to check for New updates and it says "your phone is not registered" I found that to be strange so I checked some other settings and found that my imei was 000000000000000. I found that to be strange. I attempted to make a call and my phone switched to roaming and I lost all my signal bars. I performed a factory reset and after the reset I have all network function, I'm connected to Verizon 4g lte and can make calls, no more roaming. I checked the imei again at this point and it is still showing 000000000000000 and I was still unable to update. So I then reflashed the stock firmware for vs98510b. Again I had the roaming issue that went into being unable to connect to network. Again I performed a hard rest on my phone and got full network function back. I had a new micro SIM tucked away for a rainy day so I put the New SIM card in and activated it with no change to imei. What can I do from here? My phone is working fine with the imei being 000000000000000 it seems like the only issue is not being able to get an OTA, when I try using Verizon's upgrade assistant it won't even list my phone. If I check my Verizon it shows up as a non vow device. Thanks in advanced.

have you backuped the efs partition like the rooting thread said
Of course not. That would have been to easy. If I had I would have been able to avoid making a new thread. I really do Google first. Except with the back up of the eds partition. I knew nothing about that until I searched imei problems.

VS985: Lost IMEI, Can't Make Phone Calls
I'm having problems with my VS985 after downgrading including losing the IMEI and especially the ability to make phone calls.
So I got a used VS985W that had 35B installed on it for one of my kids. Having put CyanogenMod on my LG G3 (VS985) successfully, I started down that path. I used the TOT method to flash back to 10B, then used KDZ to upgrade to 12B. Then I rooted, installed TWRP, and then CyanogenMod. But I couldn't make phone calls.
There are numerous things I've tried, but it's still unable to make phone calls, usually giving out of service area, but when trying to use the *#06# code, I get an error of "missing IMMI or such".
At one point I found the IMEI had gone to all zeros. I managed to find a method to fix that. I also switched out SIM cards between phones; same issue - it's the phone and firmware.
The only thing that seems to fix it is to go back to stock 35B. Then it makes phone calls. But then I can't root it and restore the apps/data we backed up from the previous phone (LG Spectrum running CM 11).
I have done hours of searching and reading these forums along with others. I've redone the downgrade and root and TWRP install and tried numerous things but still can't get phones calls in stock versions less than 35B or in CyanogenMod (12.1, not 13, which I did try to install but never could get it to reliably boot back up after an installation, so finally gave up and went back to 12.1).
Anyone heard of this before? I can't find it. I did see in this thread post #4:

Unfortunately this link doesn't work (moved or deleted). I'm continuing to search, but it almost seems like I managed to royally muck up some partition I didn't mean to? I've tried following the advice of a number of posts, too, on related, similar aspects, but I'm getting to a point of slight insanity. Along with a kid that wants their phone (and the old one has the older style SIM so not just that easy to deal with just switching unfortunately).
Any guidance or thoughts Much appreciated. Am going to continue to try the various things I'm reading about. Thanks, -Mark
