Verizon G4 Lounge (are we ever getting subforums?) - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I figured I'd make a thread for all things Verizon since it's not apparent when we'll get subforums.
There are plenty of pros and cons to the g4, but with Verizon removing more LG related apps/features than any other carrier.. I'd say we have more cons to complain about.

As long as we get root I'll be happy. Living with the Turbo was terrible because I was never going to pay to root my phone.

I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happens this time around, especially with Lollipop. I needed a custom kernel for root on my Nexus 6 but that might not be the case now.

Honestly I'm glad there aren't any sub forms. I feel that it divides the community too much. For carrier specific discussions I feel that can be addressed in specific topics.

I think it makes it a bit neater and easier for those looking for specific things on a carrier like Root, ROMS etc...

I HATE one forum. As the above comment mentions, it confuses the hell out of people (especially noobs who ask 500 questions) when it comes to ROMs, Kernels, etc etc. Plus, you get all the annoying people from around the whole world chiming in and no location on their name so you have no idea until you ask and wait if any issues pertain to a specific carrier or model.

We need to unite and be one till we get root and unlock figured out like a one world government! Then can we split, Ok USA?

But we've always had sub forums even before root lol

I agree. Without subforums it starts getting messy. When certain versions start getting root, software updates, etc..it'll be a mess of confusion.

As I've posted elsewhere today, there won't be carrier subforums until there's enough development work to justify it. At the moment it would be a waste of time.

Make sure to donate to the bounty to help get your forums faster!

I 100% agree. Most of the topics now are not carrier-specific, once we get root and have more development that's when it makes sense.

Why is it hard for the mods to make the forum this way?

This way is so simple. make a US SGSIII forum that's universal that everyone would use, and have the individual forums for carrier specific questions/comments.
we can minimize the forums we don't use/need with that "minus" sign on the right hand side.
i'm tired of going to the sprint forums, the Verizon forums looking for something i need. most of the questions and threads we have are universal among all carriers, (google wallet for example). it just makes so much sense this way, and is much easier to navigate.
i don't understand why there is so much resistance to make the forums this way. it just looks much cleaner this way.
does anyone here agree? or am i alone in this? and now i'd have to post this in every sub-section to get everyone's opinion. but I'm not gonna bother doing that.
I think the mods do a lot of work and that picture is awfully confusing

You could sort by carrier or by phone. Depending on how you are looking for something, one way is better than the other. Sometimes neither works well. I don't envy the people who have to decide how to organize this forum, but I think it was done with a phone model specific focus as development is done per device. A device is sold across many carriers.
That's how I sees it.

what's confusing about it?
1. it shows the main sgs3 forum on the top, and then it branches to the carriers.
2. the arrows show where the +/- buttons are to collapse and expand.
3. the big x's show that is unnecessary. since they are in the main sgs3 section.
4. i even color-coded it to make it easier to understand.
--- that's all there is to it.
We had one. People complained. It was split up again. Used to be unique forums like now. Then people complained and it was put together. Now people are complaining again

There really is no good solution for this. So many carriers with virtually the same specs, but just enough to be different. And to complicate matters, the accessories are the same.
That said, I myself am not real happy with the way it's put together. Info that I can use isn't always getting to the Tmo area I'm thinking. Making it carrier specific ensures this. But I can't think of any better solutions.
I'll also say that I think the mods are doing a pretty good job. And I love the tone here. Some of the other phones areas can get pretty ugly.
Part of the problem is that users here post so many bs threads and posts. That and the duplicate threads really make for a bit of chaos. We have a great "tricks and tips" thread but people make their own posts. Battery threads (etc) too. That will never change LOL.
I liked them combined. Plan and simple. People on other carriers run into issues i would like to see, instead of going and searching 4 other forums..

but if you notice, this way depicted in the picture above, there will be a combined/split up portion. catering to both audiences and eliminating 4 of the same topics in different sub-forums. i understand that people complain if it's split up, and people complain if it's combined. this does both so it would eliminate complaining, and it would eliminate 4 threads of the same topic in each carrier forum. but it would allow carrier-specific questions to be put in their places.

Then you are going to wind up with a whole lot of bricked devices. Some people will try and use something that don't belong to their brand.

People should stop posting wrong section and report directly to a mod.
Once the moderator does find out he/she then has to move the thread, and if there are "wrong section, stupid head" posts he/she has to delete them.
Less work makes for a happy mod.

Wow you failed to read the forum rules and have the nerve to tell people there wasting time... obviously you didn't graduate from school because if you knew how to read.. 1. You would have posted in the right section and 2. You would have knew how to use the search function because your question probably already has a post and answer.
I dont understand how hard that is to do. :silly:
If I learned one thing on XDA, it's this. Most people like to post in the wrong sections, because they know that they will get a faster answer and that more people will see it. They do it, despite the fact that they shouldn't. So, in theory, we should just ignore those that do it, because lets be honest...they know better and so should we. Now, I've also seen many members that know better, reply to these people and give them their answers, but they fail to see that, they are only feeding these people, to keep on doing it.

[LOCKED] The reason why I keep my phone STOCK is:

Hello fellow XDA Member!
This thread will serve as a reminder of why we decided to keep our phone stock. Tell us your reason!
So, I made a promise to myself. I will keep my bootloader locked, phone unrooted, and stay away from any real customization. I have tried many ROMs, kernels, etc and I have yet to find a better configuration than stock.
Feels free to comment if you believe aftermarket firmware is better than what Google tested and approved to be used on our device.

Lol, no.
Are you trying to create a thread where people just argue?
Its much easier to troll with a stock phone? This is like going on a car website to ask who likes riding bicycles.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Stock ROMs do not feel as sluggish because they are odexed.
Custom kernels make your device act up sooner or later. That's the reason why those threads have MILLIONS of views and thousands of comments. Troubleshooting never ends. Besides, if these kernels were really making an improvement on user experience, Google would hire these people, right?
Custom ROMs, is that extra navigation button or battery percentage worth all the time you will spend flashing new versions, reading XDA, helping other members troubleshoot? I have always noticed that person A creates a ROM, person B is the #1 fanboy which spends all day in the thread answering all kinds of questions and dismisses any reports of problems with his Master's creation. Person A barely communicates with person B.
I could list more...

thank you OP for ignorantly venting your personal issues with custom roms on xda. No, custom roms likely are not for you since you are looking for stability and out of the box usage. Custom roms are for those who are looking to learn and develop and push the boundaries of our devices. As with any rom here YMMV.
This will undoubtedly go nowhere. The reason why we are here is to improve our phones and our experience with our device. So you will get a lot of members that will not take kindly to this, so I am going to close it before it gets to that point. Thank you for understanding. :highfive:

Seriously thinking of giving the phone back

As I'm within the 28 days to exchange.....I've kind of had it with fancy phones and might go for a cheapy and get most of the money back, they wont like it but hey ho
Cool story bro
EDIT: But seriously, WHY do you hate the phone? I have a One X, I hate the way its designed and the battery life. I don't like the phone but atleast I know WHY I don't like the phone.
Maybe the reasons you don't like it can be fixed with a better ROM or something?

I would - I moved mine on to my wife who isn't fussed about custom/boot images/s-off/super-cid/flashing radios etc
I'm back using my Sensation and that's fancy enough for me for now. For me its better to have my modding freedom back.
And yeah - there is something to be said for saving thr £500 a high end phone costs. The functionality of a Desire C say is really the same at a lot less.
Agree wish I still had my Desire instead of all the risky business that is installing roms.

Stu, no offence but just ignore trolls.
By saying "I wonder how many other "useful" (ONE L!) posts there are"
This is just going to make people not want to help you. Considering XDA is one of the most useful, if not THE most useful forum for not only Android but devices such as the Raspberry Pi.
If you don't find this forum useful, why come here and tell all us useless users that you "Thinking of giving it back". Why do we need to know that?

Are you aware of the samsung care plus subscription which allows you to change your phone if damaged or you want to upgrade, allowing you 2 swaps in 2 years.
If you were a 12 year old who just joined xda to get help destroying your phone, I wouldn't be surprised. But considering you've been a xda member for almost a decade, I'd expect you to have at least a modicum of maturity and sense to know that no one is going to help you commit fraud. If you hate that phone, then sell it. You'll lose money on it, but a mature person takes responsibility for bad choices. Xda does not promote fraud or other illegal activities. Find another forum for that.
Since this thread seems to be spiraling rapidly out of control, I think it best that we just shut it down here and now. If i may, whether or not you may agree or disagree with an OP topic, that is no reason to start making accusatory, or harsh statements towards one another. I will ask you all kindly to please check your attitudes at the door, be respectful towards each other, keep arguments relegated to PM's, and most importantly, remember this simple phrase: Not all thoughts need be spoken or written!!
Thank you all for your cooperation and understanding.
