[Q] Cannot stay connected to any LTE bands. Need advice and ideas please. - Sprint LG G2

Okay, here's the problem. Since June 3rd my phone will not stay connected to 4g. I toggle airplane mode and I instantly lock on to 4g. Signalcheck reads between -109 and -115. This is normal for me at home. Until the 3rd I could hold that lte 1900mhz (band 25) and never drop it unless i went further into my home. I almost never get band 41 unless Im closer to a tower. Band 26 is nonexistant in Buffalo (too close to canada).
Since then I toggle airplane mode and can lock on to LTE 25 (same signal strengths) but it drops to eHRPD 3g every single time.... Within 10-15 seconds. Same happens when I reboot.
I am running full stock, stock recovery, ZVG, and the G2 is rooted.
I have tried:
Disabling band 26 and 41. And connecting to any combination of them on/off.
Modifying the bsr timer, etc.
Updating prl, profile, and even reactivation many many times.
Factory reset on ZVG, 3x.
Full TOT back to ZVE, unrooted. (Still same problem even on ZVE, unrooted and yes I never had this issue on ZVE before updating to ZVG the first time.)
Redownloaded ZVG and reinstall after TOT, no improvement.
Called sprint and have been working with engineers in Oklahoma city office. They swear up an down its not a tower issue, or a eCSFB problem.
I have the same problem even away from my home towers.
I have opened the device to inspect for damage, or moisture, there is none I can see.
I havent dropped it hard, or exposed it to any water that I can think of.
So anyone have any ideas on what I should try next, or do to get my 4g to stick?
Im a bit at a loss. Ive tried every setting, trick, or troubleshooting step I can think of.
Thanks in advance for any help or knowledge you can provide.

For anyone that may have a problem like this in the future I solved my issues by having sprint send me a new sim card. Being that I bought my g2 the day it was released I guess maybe my sim went bad. It was a long shot and my last ditch effort to get 4g back. I now have a steady 4g signal.

Thanks for posting what fixed it for you. I've also been having this same problem for about the last 2 weeks. It just won't hold LTE. I'll stop by my local Sprint store today for a new sim and hopefully that does the trick for me as well.

Unfortunately even with the new sim card the problem returned after a few days. I called Sprint and asked them to put in a dummy sim number to unregister the sim, and then re-add the sim back. It fixed the problem immediately once again.
Frankly, I dont understand what the problem is. I know its related to the sim card but I havent reset (powered down) my phone in a week. Im kinda worried the problem will come back if I do. Cant see it being a bad sim reader in the phone. Otherwise it wouldnt start working on 4g again after resetting it via sprint.
Im stumped.
I can always call sprint and have them reset the sim again but Id rather know if its some kind of bug that will be fixed. I contacted LG and they acted like I am outta my mind.

[Q] No reception

I rooted my G2 about 2 weeks ago with Virtuous ROM and, the other day I picked the phone up to go to work not thinking anything was wrong.
When I got to work, I had an X where the signal bars are. Tried to turning phone off and, nothing.
When I go in and search for the carriers it shows T-Mobile and AT&T listed then I tap the T-Mobile section and it tells me "Your SIM Card doesn't allow connection to this Network"....So we called T-Mobile and switched SIM Cards and still get the same thing.
My SIM works in every other phone we have, including our myTouch4g...I have un-rooted and, same result. Then rooted again and, it still acts the same way..
T-Mobile said it was something with their network and, could take 3 days to get it straightened out.
Has anyone else had this kind of problem out of there G2 before or after rooting?
I'm in Tennessee, if that helps.
Well, I went totally back to stock and, still no reception. Just an X in the signal location.
Send phone in for warranty if you have it...and try to enable raoming and data raoming and see if you can pick up any signal...

Thanks. I tried that and, still no signal. My DBM is -109 when I checked it a few minutes ago through the my device app.
Checked it again and it says -89, signal strength of 14 but, still have an x on the signal bars.
This is crazy. You don't think the Virtuous ROM messed it up do you?
I got a solution from T-Mobile. They are sending me a new one.....YIPPIE

[Q] EVDO <failed>

A few weeks ago my evos data became ridiculously slow. I was the latest stable cm6 (6.1.2 iirc) and it was out of nowhere since I did not install any new apps or make any changes. I did a nandroid back to when I first rooted and I still had no 3g (wifi, bluetooth, wimax, 1x all work).
The tech I talked to at Sprint had me try updating everything and even a factory reset (which I already tried before calling). I have Best Buys phone insurance (never again. Sprints is much better after having to use both at one point or another) so I took it to best buy and when I get my phone home the data and phone are slow. After a few days I notice in ##debug# evdo engineering has <failed> on everything and I was running 3.26.xx.x I just ran the ruu to the latest 3.70 and it is snappy again but still no 3g.
Once I get time I am going to take it to the sprint repair center but I am curious if anyone else has had this problem. A search on here and Google doesn't come up with anything.

Have you tried updating your profile? Also, are your radio/baseband, PRI, NV & WiMax files updated to the latest versions? You can check it by going to Menu-Settings-About Phone-Software Information. The NV will not be listed, by the way.
Yes, everything is the latest. I even tried the port and proxy reset to 0 and 0.0.0.0 respectively method with no change.
It seems like my radio just doesn't work on 3g anymore. I hope to get to the sprint service center before the weekend.

I hear ya. Hopefully, they'll provide you with a new EVO instead of a refurbished one.
Call sprint's advanced tech support.
877-809-6696 ats advanced tech supp
Ask them to do a full profile reset or update. They ask you to power the phone off for a few min (they even asked me to pull the battery, but I didn't see a need for that). Then when it reboots, it will do the ota provisioning, which should correct things.

They did that as well. The tech said it was basically like a new line.
It is odd because every other thread I see online has had it fixed by one of the common methods or by calling sprint.
I have a tux fitting tomorrow for my brothers wedding and the sprint service center isn't too far from that so I should be able to get it checked out then.
It may be Sprint and their network. A lot of people have been stating that they are either getting really fast speeds or really slow speeds. If I understood everything correctly I think that Sprint is going through several updates for a while to be more competitive and provide better service. It may not be your phone. If you have any friends with the same phone then does a speed test to the same server side by side and see if that is different. If the results are the same it is the network, but if the other phone is faster then it is your phone that is having the problems.

My friends evo is perfect right next to mine in san jose to sacramento. I have no 3g anywhere I have been lately (Monterey all the way to South Lake Tahoe).
I was having the Same Issue with my wife phone but she was running CM7 RC2. I was able only fix it by installing sprint Lover.
Then as itohead said try to install Sprint Lovers and see if that works. If not then I think that there is something wrong with your phone and you may need a new one, or wait till the Evo 3D comes out and get one of those.
I forgot to update this. Sorry guys.
Took it to a sprint repair center and the tech said he's never seen that before and ordered me a new one on the grounds that my usb port was "broken".

[Q] Thinking about exchanging my CDMA GN due to LTE signal drop

I've been using the Galaxy Nexus for about a month or so and have recently started to notice that the 4G signal will drop whenever I turn on the screen after some time in deep sleep. The signal meter will be fine, until I actually try to use some data. It typically takes about a minute to reacquire a signal, but the phone is essentially useless during that time.
As you can see in the screenshot, there are several red spots where the signal dropped out. I am not in a poor coverage area, and others with the same device do not have these issues. I saw this with a rooted 4.0.2 OTA and am still seeing it with a rooted, deodexed 4.0.4 rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481613).
What do people think? Will exchanging the phone possible fix the issue? Is there anything Verizon can do to try and help me out? I'm basically just spitballing here, but this problem is making my phone very frustrating to use.
Are you rooted or stock? I don't have any issues with my 4G on stock or rooted with Gummy 0.7.6. I had an issue with an earlier root where my 4G would drop. I would disable / re-enable and it would start to work again. Maybe try rooting if you are not rooted????

Yes, I see this on rooted stock, as well as the ROM I referenced in the original post (supposedly deodexed 4.0.4 stock ROM)
EDIT: From several posts in the other thread, this issue is not isolated to me or my hardware so I probably won't bother exchanging the phone.

Can you please tell me where you get that HISTORY screen from. Ive checked all menus in settings and I can not find it anywhere.
EDIT... Please ignore my post... I found it...
So, I'm having the same exact problems but i did a log cat to see what might be culprit.
I have narrowed it down to this:
02-08 11:21:51.912 E/IMSFW (415): IIL: Disconnected from '7467' socket
still have no idea what can cause it yet.
also if you switch to 3g it seems it doesn't happen so maybe its a sim problem on verizons lte network end?
11:22:40.029 E/IMSFW (415): ImsSMSInterface: Registration failed, go for retrying if isim nounce present
that's what i found so if anyone can clarify and maybe see if it is really on Verizons end as this is the 4th phone that has had this problem.

Hey fellas, I'm posting in this thread because it relates to the issue I'm facing. Coming from the Thunderbolt, I had no problems holding onto a LTE signal in Atlanta, but with my GNex, the signal just drops a lot (every half hour or so maybe), at work, at the store, wherever. It shows an empty signal bar with a small x, and says 'Searching for Service'.
This seems to happen only when I have it in LTE mode. I switched to CDMA under the 'Mobile Networks' settings window, and it was able to hold on to the 3G signal all day. I am starting to think if it is a LTE sim card authentication issue.
I'm going to VZW to see what I can do (I'm still within the 14-day window).
I'm having the Same issue holding onto a 4g signal in Savannah and Atlanta, cdma only is fine. Let me know what Verizon tells u cause they basically told me to wait for an update

Just came back, basically they said they can't do anything unless they replicate the problem, which they couldn't. (it was a random problem.). They told me to call customer service when I got that issue, so I have to see that at work tomorrow.
I tried a suggestion online where I updated my prl from the 15xxx version to the 52642 version. I did this by creating a contact with the following number
*22899
and dialing that contact. It went through a 'activation' process, with some elevator music, and the signal seems to hold.

I've updated to 4.0.4, 4.0.3, flashed just the radios, removed some card, hard reset, factory reset, just about everything u can imagine and still no luck. To this and post 10, I still have those data issues, but they are much less frequent on the 4.0.2 radio than the 4.0.4.
I got in touch with Verizon wireless online support, and they basically told me to wait till they release a software update. I asked for a new sim card (since I thought it might be LTE authentication issues), and they said it was a software problem, not a SIM problem.
I guess its a wait and see.

[Q] Data service iffy on LTE - phone or Straight Talk issue

Hi,
I've been having data issues with my HTC ONE M8 on Straight Talk for the past couple of weeks. the data service for some reasons got really iffy. before everything was absolutely fine. now sometimes I cannot access data at all, sometimes something is working and something doesn't.
when the data doesn't work:
- most of websites are not reachable
- google.com seems to work normally
- google maps might work; sometimes very slow, sometimes not working at all
- ookla speedtest won't start, but if I set a fixed server it might work
- facebook.com might work in the browser but the app doesn't work
- refreshing the page seems to help
on WI-FI I have absolutely no problem. everything works fine.
phone and txt messages work without problems.
on 3G (HSDPA) everything seems to work fine. I see problems when on LTE.
anybody has the similar issues?? any suggestions?
many thank!!
I am having the exact same issue! So frustrating, I don't want to use 3g if we should be on "Full speed 4G LTE for up to 3GB"!
tried so many different APN's, no luck can't get over 2.5mbps with any of them
I would be happy with anything that works right now. the service is just NOT WORKING. I am paying for a service that doesn't work and that's not acceptable.
I opened a case with the help desk; useless. I was talking to people who don't understand the basic concepts of networking. made me add a proxy to the APN; no difference at all.
then I put a complain on Twitter and got some other people "helping" via email. at least they asked for the address of where I am always having problems; hopefully, they check out the service at the antenna. I think it's not a BTS (antenna) issue but something related to their proxy, firewall or network gateway since google.com works without problems!
I talked to a friend of mine who has StraightTalk as well and he said that he had the same issue last year!
I had the exact same issue with Net10 it is so annoying and unacceptable =(
Have you tried calling straight talk a call
U can try this from what I know ur phone gets chooses the strongest signal tower example u are around 3G tower it has a 9/10 signal and the 4g tower is a 6/10 strength it goes with the 3g hope this helps in ur dial pad dial *#*#4636#*#* then Phone Information....Scroll down a little bit to Set preferred network type. I was able to lock in LTE only doing this and gave me the fastest signal on my device hope with works for u. If u can post ur original settings before u change to lte option only on this post so u can always revert to ur original setting good luck.

if I lock it to 3G it actually works well. I will try your suggested settings.
on another note I wonder if it's an issue with the phone radio implementation. my Nokia/Windows phone sees LTE very very slow but it doesn't stop working completely.

Hmmm Idk but anything's worth a try what settings do u have it on already?
if I put it on GSM/WCDMA (so no LTE) data works fine in 3G.
and if I do a speed test in 3G it gets about 5Mbps in download vs 1, 2 or 3 Mbps when LTE works (ZERO otherwise)
The exact same thing started happening to me two or three weeks ago. More often than not, the LTE connection simply doesn't work, and when it does, it's excruciatingly slow (anywhere from 0.01 to 2.50 mpbs, and usually less than 1.00). Do you guys have AT&T or T-Mo sims? I'm starting to wonder if going to Cricket would solve the problem, but since I'm running an AT&T sim, I'm not sure if anything would change since it's on the same network.
Straight Talk support is worthless... they think a factory data reset will fix it, when it's clearly a network issue. I just told them to stop right there and started troubleshooting myself. That's a good tip about dialing *#*#4636#*#* and turning off LTE that way. It seems like that is where the issue lies - I'm having good luck with HSPA; it's slower than LTE should be, but at least it works. It'll do as a stopgap through the end of my billing cycle, at which point I can decide whether to go somewhere else or get by on HSPA until they fix whatever the problem is.

tried and on pure LTE it simply doesn't work. the only way is to set GSM/WCDMA and it goes at 3G speeds but at least it works.
the funny part is that Google.com always works, whatsapp works, googleplay works. so it seems a problem with throttling or filtering to me.

I have ST on AT&T.
a friend of mine with iPhone 6 down in Newport has no problems. he sent me screenshots of speed test at 15Mbps.
I really wonder if it's some radio firmware issue...
Ironically, I ran into something very like this too recently....I was on an at&t straighttalk sim...lte had been OK prior to me updating to 4.4.4. It was never spectacular, but it was, at least, lte speeds. After the update I noticed it had become really sketchy...just as described, pretty much; even when mine worked it was trash. 3g was much better and totally stable. I thought it might be the update, but long story short, it wasn't. I inserted a friend's sim from tmobile and got full lte with no issues.
Now, in my case, I had been using a shaved down microsim rather than a nano sim, so I thought, maybe that's the issue. I noticed when ordering the new one, the tmobile one actually said htc m8 compatible on the page(plus my friend's legit tmobile sim got good signal and lte so I thought that's a good basis for comparison). Got the new one, put my number on it, and voila! I'm getting on average 20mbps lte. And it's very consistent too. So now I'm on the tmobile straighttalk sim and everything is fine.
Anyways, it's only $7 with free overnight shipping, so that's something easy to try. This wouldn't be the first time a new sim fixed all sorts of weird data problems with straighttalk either. I've been on with them for several years now and this is probably my 4-5th sim I've had to get for various reasons.
So, anyways, your mileage may vary but that fixed it for me. Hope it helps.

it seems ST on T-mobile is not having the same issues as ST on AT&T. the problem is that T-mobile coverage is not so good in my area.
I tried my phone in a different location (400 miles away) and had the same issues.
I've done some more testing.
it is really weird that Google.com works flawless while any other site seems not to work.
activating "save data usage" in Chrome seems to help. however it doesn't solve the problem. sometimes pages needs to be reloaded a few times.
even when LTE works, the OOKLA speed test gives me 2Mbps in dowload and 5-6Mbps in upload. so no matter what, I am better off with 3G.
I found an interesting thread here on XDA. I am not rooted at the moment and can't try.
<<
If you are rooted there is simple FIX, simple disable FD8 (Fast dormacy 8)
ro.ril.enable.r8fd=1
ro.ril.enable.pre_r8fd=1
Change both to =0 and issue will be fixed.
If your not rooted only fix is to keep HotSpot enabled than data connection wont break.
>>
I tried the hotspot trick but it doesn't work for me
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just wanted to give a brief update. My LTE issues with Straight Talk went unresolved for about 6 weeks despite multiple conversations with customer service. I experienced this in Raleigh, NC, Greensboro, NC, and Virginia Beach, VA. Then for Thanksgiving, I went to New York City and New Jersey (the part just outside of Philly), where all data connections were unreliable. Yes, that means 2G, 3G, HSPA, and LTE were all spotty at best the entire time.
I ran out of patience after that, and since my billing cycle was ending on 12/4, I switched to Cricket when I got home. As soon as I popped in the Cricket sim card, everything started working flawlessly again. Cricket does limit you to 8 mbps down, but that's good enough for my purposes. The issue, if it's still going on, is with Straight Talk and not the phone.
Lollipop Fixed the Issue on my HTC M8
Hey all,
I've been following this thread as I too had issues with LTE on my HTC M8 using StraightTalk. When I first got my phone, it worked perfectly with LTE on ST. Then I ran the OS update that was released sometime near November. That's when I noticed the problems. I could run a search on Google but any webpage I would try to connect to would not load. The phone would hang and eventually time out. Your instructions to turn off LTE was great help. Pages load perfectly provided LTE is not used. I was getting really frustrated and you kept me from throwing my phone at a wall. Thanks for that.
So that brings me to this post. I updated my phone to Lollipop this morning. Thought I'd give turning LTE back on and bam.... works perfectly. I've been testing it all morning and so far, all pages load really fast. I will keep an eye on it for a while and post any updates but thought I pay it back a bit with the good news since you guys helped me.
Thanks again.

thank you for sharing!!
trying to upgrade to Lollipop. unfortunately I am having an issue with the recovery (flashed from TWRP to a stock that doesn't work with the OTA and can't flash any other recovery -not sure what's wrong).
when I solve this issue and able to upgrade to Lollipop I will share my LTE test results

trouble finding 4G LTE after temp move to E (Edge)

Noticing something unusual now with my S8+ locking onto 4G LTE.
If I am in a 4G LTE area (40-50 down speeds on avg), then move to a poor coverage area (Edge only), then move back to the same 4G LTE area...my phone does not switch back to 4G LTE.
I have to restart my phone in order to connect to 4G LTE.
Turning off then turning on data doesn't work either...although shouldn't have to do this anyway.
Any suggestions? BTW, haven't touched the default phone settings and I have cellular network preferred in the wifi call setting if that matters. Network mode is LTE/4G/3G/2G. My phone is not rooted.
Thanks.
I've experienced this same issue I've actually had my s8+ replaced under warranty 5 times now... t-mobile is now having me contact samsung to send in my phone because they believe its a phone issue...
wow, really...
that stinks...and you know, only started after one of the recent updates, whatever was before the Bixby update... maybe coincident, maybe not.
Same issues here. I've had while running the T-Mo firmware and the unlocked firmware. Mine was originally the US Unlocked version purchased straight from Samsung.com.
I have that same problem too... Just put it in airplane mode for a few seconds to fix it.

That doesn't work for me. It's hit or miss. Sometimes it bounces back to LTE just fine, other times not. Yesterday, it got stuck on H+. Only a reboot would fix it.
well what the heck - guess i will visit the TMo store to see what they say...
