[Q] PS4 Game controller issue on M8 - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have my PS4 controller connected up to the M8 (via OTG cable as Bluetooth for me seems a bit too laggy in response) and it works perfectly fine apart from the fact that it absolutely destroys battery life.
I've noticed that this is because when I connect the PS4 controller to my phone, as well as working fine as a controller, my phone insists on charging the Dualshock controller at the same time. I verified this by using the controller on the PS4, but connecting it to my phone and sure enough, the battery indicator on the TV shows its being charged.
I believe this is probably draining my battery on the M8 more than actually playing games. Using various emulators like SNES9X for instance is dropping my battery by almost 50% in one hour, and I'm sure this is due to the fact my phone is charging the controller at the same time.
I've had a little look around the settings on the phone, but cannot see what to do (or even if its possible) to have it not charge the controller when connected. Anyone have any idea?

Charging while MHL adpater connected.

Hi guys,
I am running a custom rom, (Pkmn v2), but over the weekend i did my first test of the MHL.. watching a divx 90 min movie on a bigscreen connected via hdmi.
Even though the mhl was connected to the mains (and the red charging light was on the phone), the phone wasnt charging (or even just running on mains), i lost about 40% battery from the start to finish of the movie.
Has anyone else tested the mhl.. seems a bit stupid that it wouldnt run off the power that is plugged in.. is this a bug in general.. can anyone else test.
Tested it a while ago. Mine does charge. No problems at all with MHL adapter.
I'm on ARHD 5.0.
It charges the phone, the thing is... the phone drains battery faster than it charges when connected to MHL.
This was the case with my Nexus, and i'm guessing its the same case with the One X.
My mhl adapter splits the current , 500ma to the hdmi bit, and 500ma to the phone, it is expected for it to run out
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
What charger and cable were you using? some non-oem chargers & cables won't give enaugh current. Watching HD Youtube videos, my phone was charging until it became green.

[Q] MHL cable not charging

So i got an MHL cable to connect my 1X to my tv to play snes games with a bluetooth controller
It works fine, plus it looks great... BUT!
The phone says it's charging.. little red light, battery info says charging, but it looses charge as i use it.
Just finished playing a snes emulator for 30 mins. I had the phone in airplane mode, plus the screen brightness on the lowest setting.
After 30 mins it went from 85% to 72%!! plus it was really warn/hot.
Is this normal? Is it because the screen is still on on the 1X?
Does the media link thingy work better? does the screen turn off on the phone when using that?
Anyone else got an MHL cable? does your phone loose charge while using it?
Under heavy use, charging in USB mode (500mA limit) will usually still see the battery level decrease. Are you putting the auxiliary charger off a USB out from your TV/console? If so this will be the case.
I have only given my MHL adapter a quick try. Not really used it in anger yet. Can't say for sure what would happen if you used a wall charger instead of a USB one. No doubt the charge wouldn't drop, but would want to keep a very close eye on the temperature!
Are you rooted?
i think the mhl adapters (mine at least) has a maximum output, to the phone, of 500ma.
This means even if you plugin a wall charger @ 1A, then it will still only provide the phone 500ma of power max.
The rest of the power goes to actually powering the cable itself, in order to get the picture on the tv.
the reason it drains, is because the consumption of the screen/cpu is greater than the 500ma of power that the mhl adapter is providing.
Thanks for the reply.
My phone is not rooted. It's just a standard out of the box 1X.
Also, when using the MHL cable the phone was plugged into the mains charger & was still loosing charge! plus it was very warm..
Maybe i'll try to find some info about those charging dock/cradle things with the HDMI out. Maybe that be better???

Ah, ok.. that makes sense really.
I did think maybe there was more power being used than coming in... shame you can't turn the screen off on the 1X.
I think you have already done the sensible thing of trying airplane mode and min screen brightness. If it still heats up doing that on USB charging, then it's unlikely a different dock/adapter would see a reduction in drain & heat. I'd save your money there.
I only asked about root in case you could try Core Control to reduce heating, but never mind there.
Only thing I found that kept my phone cool when charging under heavy use (before I rooted it), was making sure I took the case off and I rest it on a granite drinks coaster I have! Draws the heat out of the phone very efficiently!

Very slow Fire Stick

I bought the Fire stick initially to use with Kodi, which it currently is running. But I have noticed that the stick can get very slow, laggy, when navigating the fire home menu or playing games.
Even if kodi is closed there is a noticeable issue here, but i have no idea how to fix it, even if it can be fixed.
I have noticed with the sticks that sometimes they work like a champ, and other times they get really laggy. I finally just said screw it, and sold the sticks, and just went to all "boxes". That said, the FTV stick is an incredible value for what you get for the money. But if you are a heavy user, you may want to pop for the box.
If you have it plugged into a USB port on your TV or into a surge protector, change that and plug it directly into a wall outlet or a standard extension cord.

Interesting. I understand the TV seeing as it could have less current going to it and people have reported it not being capable of updating when plugged into the tv, but what would surge protector change?
I bought two sticks at different times and set them both up plugged directly into the wall, everything was fast and worked well. Then when I installed them on the TVs I bought them for, I plugged them both into surge protectors and the performance was much slower and not at all what I had seen before. I then plugged one directly into the wall and the other into a standard extension cord and both were back to the fast performance I had originally seen.
My completely unsupported speculation is that the Stick at times pulls a spike of current that surge protectors are specifically designed to prevent, so it either can't do specific operations quickly or, because it now "knows" it can't draw the spike of current, it limits itself to a lower current draw and in general operates more slowly.
The device needs a stable voltage (5v in this case as it is a USB powered device). If the voltage was to drop the stick would power off / crash.
If you feel that it's not getting enough power then it's possible that it's not getting enough amperage. For example computer USB 2 ports are limited to 500ma (which is why phones charge slower from a computer than the wall charger) what might be happening is the USB power adapter you are using doesn't provide the amperage needed for the device.
Are you using the Amazon provided adapter? Is it getting unusually hot?
Do you have any other USB power adapters that put out a higher amperage?
It's very slow in response. And using KODI, you might as well forget about it. My first one was so slow, I called amazon to complain. They sent me a replacement. That did the same. So they both got returned. Darn shame as I like KODI, using Exodus. Constant freeze up. The processor just can't handle it.
I went back to my ROKU, and just order my movies from Redbox.......
Check to see if your router has 2 channels
Changing the power supply didn't work for me. What I figured is since there is network trouble, maybe there was a connection issue. My router has the option of 2.4 ghz signal or 5. I chose 2.4 for my firestick because my smart home is on that channel. I switched up to 5ghz which has the same password and my stick was back to working flawlessly and it actually didn't make a difference when telling the remote to turn on the lights.

Is OnePlus 3T Charger safe to charge Dualshock 4 Controller?

Hello, I was wondering if it was safe to use the charger's plug head to charge my PlayStation 4 Controller? I was also thinking of getting a charging dock that uses MicroUSB as power input. Need some info please.
For non Dash-charge devices it works like a normal charger, so no problems in charging DS4 controllers. Max charging rate will probably be around 1.5 amps, if the DS4 controllers even support that. ?
Okay thank you Pitrus, much obliged.

Official nvidia shield controller (Gen2) with a strange behavior

Hi everyone
I searched everywhere on internet but nothing seems to be my case.
I have my nvidia controller gen2 (2017) that made some strange thing, all of a sudden I can't power up the controller. but if I try the shield TV sees it and even upgraded the firmware but I can only use the analog sticks, all physical buttons not responding.
On my PC (USB) the controller is seen like a xbox 360 controller and same thing occurs , I can move the analog stick but buttons are not responding.
I tried all thing nvidia support told me but nothing worked and the controller is not on warranty anymore (too old)
If I put the controller on charge, the left side is quite hot but still no power when I push the nvidia button.
So I teared down the controller to unplug the battery connector and plug it after a little rest but nothing more.
Anyone have an idea before I go further on the teardown and get out the mainboard of the controler case ?
Thank you
If its getting hot when charging then it can be a battery issue. Best way to confirm is to open the controller up then connect to charger and check where it gets hot. If its the batteries then you can replace them. Its just 2 x AA nimhs in series.
you can try this too. disconnect the battery from inside the controller then connect the controller to a computers usb port and check in the pad config tool if its working fine and if its not getting hot any more. if its no longer getting hot that means its a battery charging issue and the battery probably not accepting charge anymore and needs replacement.
that battery itself does have a thermal probe on it so the controller can monitor the temperature of the battery.

I tested the controller on my computer
it's shown as Nvidia controller v1.04 but in the controller test it's shown as xbox360 controller
Only the 3 axis are responding , when I push a button it's not shown on windows test, it's like i'm not pressing any button.
It seems the motherboard is dead
