Maps
Is it possible ad maps to fenix 3?

Just ordered my Fenix 3 and will be watching this thread closely.

Recebi um fénix 3 e o meu principal uso é para BTT será que não vai dar para colocar mapas ?

Any progress on this?

subscribing. I'd be good to consider also supporting the fenix 3 HR (i wouldn't be suprised if there were onlys minor differences for the internal HR sensor support)
I have no clue how i can help ; I've never done any reverse engineering (I'm no electronics nerd, and certainly won't be opening up and messing around with my $600 watch), but I'll be closely following, testing stuff (if it doesn't brick the watch) and maybe learn some low level stuff on the way.
I guess the first step would be to analyse the firmware packages (Are there encrypted ?). Garmin releases beta firmware quite often.

If anyone of you has this smartwatch (fenix3) can you tell me if and how the reading of altimeter/barometer change underwater?

What do you mean? During deep sea diving?

Yes.. but a test can be done even in one meter of water... I am just curious.. altimeter might not red anything useful, but barometer should...

Its highly accurate underwater. WAYYYYY more accurate than above sea level

Any luck on creating alternate OS or porting the Android OS to the Fenix 3 watch? Thanks!

Please make a hack or app to put (base) maps on the garmin fenix 3 and 5
The fenix 3 was introduced in January 2015 and there is still no way to put a map on it. Hopefully someone can make a hack or develop an app that will make it possible to put basemaps on the Fenix 3 and Fenix 5. It is possible to put a very basic map on the Fenix 2.
The Amazfit pace can be hacked and run SOME Android apps, Offline Maps+ and can make voice recordings which none of the Garmin watches can do and has an e-ink display as well. The Garmin Fenix 3 and 5 have sunrise and sunset info, the ability to update the time via GPS (no cancer cellphone needed) but no touch screen.
Because Fenix 3 and 5 are nice watches it would be nice if everyone could put a basic map on them. The map for the Fenix 2 is very usable when you're hiking and you want to see the nearest road for example. Many people have chosen the Amazfit Pace so removing the map capability probably cost Garmin more than it made them selling the oversized 5X.
Since cancer cellphone radiation (microwaves) cause chromosomal damage, DNA breaks and lumping red blood cells many people refuse to take their device out of airplane mode and they appreciate Garmin made it possible to install apps and watch fitness data via their USB without radiation.
There is an app available on the Garmin ConnectIQ website for the Fenix 3 and 5: Moscow (Offline map). Perhaps basic maps of several countries could be made the same way or an app that makes it possible to use the offline (base)maps that are available like on the Fenix 2. The Moscow map is great for people that live there but most people do not. So its been 3 years since its release and it would be nice if finally some kind of hack or update would become available that makes it possible to use these basic maps that also work on the Fenix 2.

Signed. I was also looking for an hack to upload little map on the F3. Any news about that?

Running (or walking ) GPS route recording

HI - first post so please excuse any errors - Does anyone know of any software for my HD that will record GPS positions over time ? (at regular intervals etc) - I do a lot of longer distance running and would be interested in carrying my HD for a run to record distance, speed etc from the GPS. Also for walks etc - which I can then analyse later (ie prob record GPS positions at set intervals etc)
Does anyone know any software that will do this for me please ?
I'm using trackr to record my bicycle rides; works like a charm. The only drawback is that you have to leave the screen on.
Another possibility is trip tracker sportsmate
yes they look great thanks - will give it a try
track your run/walk etc
try smartrunner from http://www.smartrunner.de
its german, but freeware and absolutly the best i´ve ever used....
and i´m running many kilometers a week ;-)
grtz
http://www.rungps.net/
This recording of running around seems to be a German thing
you need a GPS program
I recommand: GPSmeter 5 or GPS Tuner
thnx all - will try them out
Try GPS Cycle computer, fantastis program and the schreen can be off
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424423
TrackMyRun.mobi is also great.
Here's the thread over in the Diamond forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473623
run.gps
Run.gps is incredible software. It is absolutely the best software I have on my phone. Heres a few of its features:
1. You can plan routes on google earth and export them to your phone. Then it will display the route on your phone and you can even tell it to read out the directions of the route during your run.
2. It logs the position of your run, which can be viewed in google earth after your run.
3. It can read out to you anything you want during your run. eg. I set mine to tell me my speed, average speed, distance to the end of the route and time to the end of the route every 2mins.
4. It saves all of your training plans - giving a report for distance run, calories burnt etc. You can view these in a weekly/monthly format to see how much you have been doing.
5. Screens are customisable. You may not want to view a live update on a map as you run, you may just want to see your speed, distance run, calories burnt etc...So you can set the screens up exactly how you want. Theres a function to keep the backlight on during use so you dont have to keep pressing the on button during your run.
6. It can be used for loads of other sports not just running.
7. Can be used for interval training and marathon training.
8. Buying the software gives you membership to a site where you can plan/ view your routes and other peoples. As well as view all your training plans.
9.The software is totally finger friendly.
10. You buy the software in a bundle with a 'tune belt' neoprene holder which is pretty good for the Touch HD.
Anyway, hope that helps - I really recommend the software and theres a free trial for a certain period. I tried it before I brought it.
Regards,
Richard
I use everytrail, http://www.everytrail.com/ best one i found.

gps app

Cant seem to be able to find good gps navigation sw.. Anyone got any suggestion
I would recommend iGo My Way
iGo doesnt have an app for wvga devices, the modified version of iGO for wvga is called motonav. But there are other softs like: navigon, copilot, sygic, ...
check discussion related to Desire
here is a good link :

I recommend Waze. Crowd sourcing GPS navigation, with real time traffic gathering from other Waze users. You can even update the maps online if they are incorrect. And its completely free.
When I switch it on in the morning it auto plots the fastest route to work, and the same for going home in the evening. I love it.
I really like Waze, especially the traffic information wich you receive from other users in the area is incredible! And its kinda fun socializing with it
The Waze is really interesting, but its useless in countries where only few people use it.
Yeah it needs a small community behind it to make it really powerful.
most of your suggestion are for US / EU... not for asia.... anyone got other alternatives???
Cyberazi, you can use Waze anywhere in the world, but as mentioned, if there's not many others using it in your area you'll find that you'll be the one creating new roads as you drive along them for the first time.

Try:
- iGo
- nDrive
check for papago, this should be asia compatible
I've been using Ndrive for a past 1 year, seems dependable...
Which is the app to improve my gps for my unrooted Galaxy S?
I have a huge problem when I'm using the Igo. I have done all official updates and I think I will go to the other way......ROOT!!!!!
What's your opinion??????
Waze is the app you are looking for, as many users use it the better and reliable the evolving maps will be available for you.

Thanks for the heads up. Any differences you noticed compared to "regular" version?
Save your money and buy something that's worth it. CoPilot is worst navigation system I have ever seen!
I bought the full European version for £29.99 instead of £60.
It does annoy me that the USA Version is only £2 for Standard and £6 for Premium!
Navigon is a sack of sh1t compared to this (IMHO).
Each to their own, personally I think it rocks and for the money you cannot complain!
I bought CoPilot v8 at the beginning of May, when I got my S2. It cost me just over £20.
ALK have confirmed there is no upgrade path and all they will provide existing users (along with everyone else) is this 7 day, 50% discount.
After having a quick look at what this new 'Premium' versions offers, I think I'll be saving my money and wait for v10.
A reviewer wrote:
Stick with V8. Glad this wasn’t an upgrade!! V9 seems to have forgotten what SATNAV is for. Suggested routes are ridiculous. Every route needs editing, not good when at the roadside and all you want is to get from A-B. No routing prefs Shortest, Quickest etc. Road prefs if not on neutral make things worse. No town\city location display. Often looses gps fix. Display on Wildfire has grey pixelated areas and chopped off icons. ‘Not fit for purpose’ in many areas. Needs to be fixed – quick or Refund please!

Maps for the region your purchased are free. E.g. I bought UK and Ireland version (those maps are free). I can additionally purchase maps for other regions (e.g. Western Europe).
Regarding the voice, screenshot attached.
Overall this version is great. The UI is epic compared to the last version.

That is a very fair review I would say.
As for the maps, that may be true, I am not sure, but I don't believe it is. I think the cost of the Copilot app includes the maps.
There are additonal 'bolt ons' available within v9.0 which cost extra. I have paid for Traffic (£9.99 per annum), I would have paid for Fuel Prices (4.99 per annum) but it is not available in the UK presently.
The best part for me is the upgraded registration process. In v8.0 it was a nightmare and if you wanted to change from one device to another, it could quite literally make your brain bleed. It is easy in v9.0.
Overall, I am very happy, I am just jealous that I do not live in the US where this is extremely cheap. The cost of maps must be less for Copilot over there I guess.
Someone told me that CoPilot do not integrate with Android Contact
This should mean that it isn't possible to invoke navigation from an Contact address ... is this a fact (or a joke)?
If you're talking about selecting a contact in Android's Contacts app & navigating to it via CoPilot, that doesn't seem to be an option -- instead of opening CoPilot, it takes you into Google Maps. It may be the case that Android doesn't provide the hooks to allow third-party apps to be called from within their Contacts app; Google wrote the OS, so they set the rules.
However, you can select your Android contacts from within CoPilot.

Android do provide the hooks to allow third-party apps to be called from within their Contacts app. IGO My Way is one confirmed example.
Is Copilot as good or reliable as tomtom? Tbh, I still find myself using my htc touch diamond for satnav since it has tomtom navigator on it. Honestly, all the other satnavs around are crap from what I've tried. They all have some fancy features or graphics which are nice or better in some way (like I use google satnav sometimes and it speaks actual road names which is cool, but no speed camera warnings) but overall, tomtom is the only one I trust and feel comfortable with and which holds my hand down every road. Can't wait till tomtom hits android.

Hate all this Facebook/Twitter **** on Copilot Live Premium, and just hope the navigation part will work!
IGO8 on Windows Mobile is the best satnav I ever have used, so I'll take my old Windows Mobile phone with me in case Copilot let me down.

Thanks for the correction -- good to know that. I've been on Android for only a month or so, after having used WinMo since Windows CE 1.0 back in 1996.
BTW, I've seen several people mention IGO My Way on Android. However, I can't find any reference to it on Android Market, nor can I find an Android version on the IGO website. How does one get the software?

Problems - just me?
Hello all
I'm having real problems with mine at the moment. It locks up constantly usually when a planning a route but often when navigating and sometimes it hangs the phone too.
Mine's a very standard installation, not rooted and the phone is stable otherwise.
It might just be me but if not I'd say it's a long way from being release worthy.

Aviation Heads Up Display (HUD)

Hey guys! I was paging through the forums and had what could be an awesome idea. I'm by no means a aerospace engineer nor a computer scientist, but I was trying to figure out how hard it would be to take a standalone Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS) system like the iLevil 3 Sport, and display it on something like the EPSON BT-300. Im sure it would have to be a simplified display, but in theory couldn't we get something like a fighter jet HUD directly in front of your face?!
The reason I have chosen these two pieces of hardware (iLevil 3 Sport and EPSON BT-300) is to try and simplify the problem at hand. Through programs like ixGyro, AHRS Utility by iLevil, and Xavion, to name a few (all of which are compatible with the iLevel, and available to download directly to any Android system), you already have all of the information in tablet form.
The AHRS device has all of the hardware required and outputs the information via WiFi. These programs have already proven that this information can be successfully displayed. It seems as through that the only problem now is the GUI. I don't have either of these two products so I can't say for certain, but I'm willing to bet that the BT-300, running Android 5.1, can display this information almost the exact same as on your phone or tablet! I propose that we simply delete the background so you have a true augmented reality while you fly!

Watch app development, best practice?

Hello everyone,
I just got my brand new GT classic, 2 days ago and I can say I'm pretty happy with what I got. Also this is my first smartwatch at all.
Beside that I'm Software developer for over a 10 years in many different aspects, languages, technologies and frameworks. So far I've developed applications for desktop, web and mobile platforms, but now comes real challenge.
I would like to develop app for turning on and off my smart lights in the house, so I can be even more lazy
If anyone has any experience in developing watch apps please let me know more details.
I'm interested in best language (I think I read it's Java, which is one of my strongest programming languages) to develop watch apps, most often framework if there is some specific, API-s from Huawei, if there is some useful and so on. Really every help and details are more than welcome.
Also if anyone interested on pairing during app development, would be possible also. App won't be commercial, and will be free for everyone if I made it some day.
Thank you for your attention, best regards.
Lol. I can't help but I though it was funny to think a way so we can became more lazy lol

It's a great idea. If you do a Google home integration instead it would work with everything that already interfaces with that.
So far I have Philips Hue & Hive bulbs/lamps/plugs, and British General plugs and sockets, all working with Google Home. As GH already has links to many smart devices I think linking to that would be possibly simpler as only one connection point?
Maybe also do it for Alexa for those who use that?
That way 2 integrations would cover almost all smart devices that allow connections.

This watch is not supporting adding apps. And propably will never be even if Huawei give us access to rom file. Its to much hardware limited. You can only create watch face on it OR create app for android, linux, windows to upload faces, manage options, show notifications to use it instead Huawei Health.
