How to flash this custom firmware
Hi everyone, i'm really new with this zenfone 2, just had it since 3 days ago, mine is ze551ml with 4gb ram and 32gb internal, and still has firmware version 2.13... And I have an issue with the battery life, so I was looking for something that can fix my problem, then I found this thread, and honestly I don't have any idea how to do it, and what's the meaning of "you must be unlocked" ? Is that mean I have to unlock bootloader first? If so, than what should I do after that? Can I just download the firmware then put it in my internal storage? Will notification pooped up after i unplug the USB cable ? Or there is something I need to do with the firmware? I hope you guys can help this newbie, and if you can make a tutorial video and upload it to YouTube it will help many people, thank you very much...

How you have removed annoying notification of micro sd card inserted?

Also interested in knowing how. I always leave a micro SD in and find it annoying to swipe that notification away every time I boot.

I'm more than likely going to remove that, but if it's in the SysUI, I won't touch it. Since Asus still updates their launcher often, it would have to be re-modified with each update.
Going to see if I can kill it another way though. Pretty sure I can.

I used firmware 2.19.40.20
When i flash it, i got stuck on asus zenfone 2 like a pict in page one.
I think i can't use this, and i hope someone here can tell me what must i do ?
I was flash it more than one.
Thanks

I just unlocked my bootloader, but when I try to adb sideload, it says
e:footer is wrong
e:signature verfication failed
installation aborted.
Does that mean that my bootloader isn't unlocked? (because I followed the step perfectly and got a white bootloader and everything)
Any help is appreciated.
---------- Post added at 03:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:13 AM ----------
When I try installing this with adb sideload, (on a rooted unlocked zenfone2) it says that the signature verification failed.
I thought that it didn't check for verificaton if the bootloader was unlocked.
My bootloader is white so I am fairly certain that it is unlocked.
I'm not sure what I'm dong wrong. any help is appreciated.
My firmware is 2.19.40.18
Update: So I installed TWRP (i think that solved the problem I had earlier), however now when I go into ADB Sideload, it says that there are no adb devices connected.
This is very strange to me because when I exit ADB Sideload, and I check for adb devices, it shows up again.
I have also tried reinstalling drivers and the result is still the same.
If anyone is experiencing similar issues or knows how to fix this, please let me know!
Thanks
update 2: So I was not able to sideload from adb using TWRP, however I was able to use the push function to push the data onto the internal memory and install it from there.
The command I used was "ADB push <filename> /sdcard/"
without the quotatons.
From there I installed it and worked like a charm.
Thanks!

Rom ze550ml
Can I use this rom for ze550ml?

How can I get this theme on a stock rom (with all the bloatware and stuff).

Is the rom global version?

app names
can you please tell me the names for
Party Link
Power Saver
instead of removing the apps i choose to disable them.
this is what i have disable so far

com.asus.task
com.asus.linkrim.service
com.asus.linkrim
com.asus.sharerim
com.asus.userfeedback
com.asus.asuszenuipcsuite
com.asus.minifilm
I've uninstalled everything that the phone allowed me to do by default.
if you know anything else that could be disable could you please make a list.
The reason im not removing them is simple:
1) not an expert in android - in case problems happens
2) i like to be able to update my phone - so far i've made 1 OTA without any problems
3) 64 gb of internal storage is enough to not worry about space.

Just a small and quick question. I'm looking to flash this bad boy and getting most bloat removed in one simple step; but I'm worried about one thing.
Do you plan to keep doing this with future builds, or quitting sometime in the near future?

will there be an update to the PurpleDrake method on the D851 with the new 10m update? for it to work properly?
YOu can still get rooted if u are on 10m. I did. It wont exit properly so u will need to pull the battery after it is done.

Correct. However, it does not install TWRP, nor the custom Boot.IMG to prevent triggering the root counter. I too would like to see an update to include these items.

I see your concern.. you can manually install twrp but i have no idea bout the boot.img
i did all except that. Someone mentioned you can flash back to stock and it will fix the root counter. If you ever need to send in your phone that is... but i do understand its easier if this would be one package kind of thing.
IDK how to even check that yet. LOL. I have already rooted and unrooted, just to familiarize myself with the process.

Yes, but as stated above, it will glitch. The glitch just freezes on the permaroot steps. Once this happens, removing the battery and rebooting still keeps your device rooted. With 10M, currently, you will have to manually install TWRP. I recommend downloading the IMG file online, and using Flashify to flash it.

Thank you for the response. Do you think its worth rooting since 5.0 is coming out soon? I still want to root but will I have to unroot in order to get the 5.0 upgrade? or better yet, will the LG get the upgrade any time soon. Sorry for these questions. And also, since this phone has the top notch camera resolution, will rooting affect the camera?

I unrooted to ensure I get the update. If you are rooted, and have not turned off OTA, you might get the OTA, and it might break something. I personally like the LG camera better than any other so far. Another reason I went back to stock. Rooting and keeping the stock OS, should leave the camera alone. If you flash a different ROM, your mileage may vary.
We should be getting 5.0 before the end of the year, officially. LINK

My apologies, that's for restoring stock... I see in your posts, you have it set to PTP... Mine was set to MTP. While "waiting for device" was on screen, I unplugged and replugged the phone. Aside from that, seems like you have done everything else properly...

Hey everyone,
I just took advantage of a deal with Verizon to get a free tablet with purchase of a phone. Well.. I've never worked with LG before (unless you count the Nexus, but I don't). I have experience with Samsung, HTC, Nexus 5 and Kindle. All of which I was able to get to connect to ADB.
This VK810 has me absolutely stumped. I enabled USB debugging mode and I installed Verizon's drivers that came with it to no avail. I installed LG's VK810 drivers to no avail. I downloaded the x86 version of the SDK and the x64.
Everytime I query "adb devices" I get an empty list. Can someone tell me if there is some sort of trick that I happen to be missing? I would love to get TWRP installed, but can't if I have no access to ADB. If it matters, which it may, I am running Windows 8.1. Could that have something to do with it?
Thanks,
RPelham
P.S. I am using the original cable that came with the device. Thanks!

Ignore what I said before, I believe you HAVE to follow the directions in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2726707 to get 2.7.0.1 installed. You can try Flashify from the Play Store and flash the .img file that you extract from the 2.7.0.1 zip file, but I can't recall if that's all you need to do on this particular device. I think you have to go the long way, no way around it.

Well, when I got it it was 4.4.2 and I ended up bricking it completely attempting to do anything. Verizon had some kind of lock so it just said 'Boot error" etc.
I used the LG Flash Tool which was in Korean and managed to get a KDZ file to restore the device. Even though it had been purchased at 4.4.2, it is now reporting to be 4.2.2.
So I downloaded TWRP, and I assume I have to first use Stumproot, and then afterwards, I can't for the life of me figure out how to get TWRP on the device! With the Nexus I use the toolkit, and with the Galaxy series I use Odin, but the instructions for this non-common device seem to be running a command line and using CD to change directory to the Loki flash, but even after I used the '15 second ADB driver install' I get stuck with the device not found.
Thank you for your help.

ZenFone 2E Root, ROM, the works?

Would it be possible to divert a little more attention to this budget model? It's over all a great device and the only thing lacking is the software side of things.
A little update. Got the device into fastboot mode which lists general info on the phone(model, varient, etc.), but what I found interesting is that secure boot is listed as "?". Does this mean the bootloader comes unlocked from the factory? How hard would it me to port over twrp of cwm? Also, the fastboot/bootloader(?) interface seems to be touch based so that's nice.
EDIT: Added the bit on the touch gui.

I've tried a factory reset through the recovery and I also cleared the cache many times, but yet it still doesn't work. I was trying to change a line that's associated with the emulated sd card. I had inserted my micro sd card into the phone so I can see all the pictures I had on it/ listen to all my music, but it wouldn't read any of the files i had on my micro sd card. Like if i went into my music player it would say 0 songs when I know for a fact I have around 600 songs. the thing I thought was weird and annoing was if i go into my file manager i could find all the songs and play them directly. same with my pictures. I found this website that was showing me how to manually force the phone to read the external sd card verses the emulated one. I went into /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml. Inside platform.xml i found the line " name="android.permissions.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" " Then I added <group gid="media_rw"/> right after <group gid=”sdcard_rw”/>. The more I looked at the site made me realize this was meant for kitkat...I have lollipop.

It seems the kernel source is listed openly on the Asus website, could we get an official root method from that? Also this phone seems to be just a ze500cl with half the ram and internal storage so would the root method for that phone work here for now?

i just wanna see the system.img and the fastboot.img partition, if it's like most clovertrail devices the bootloader is more than likely locked.

[Q] ATT ZE500CL/Z00D Bricked After OTA Update - HELP (ZenFone 2E)

I have an ATT ZenFone 2E that I rooted successfully with this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3116531). Due to an error on my part(fat finger) I accidentally started the OTA update. Now when I try to boot the phone all I get is the AT&T logo/splash screen. I can get it to go into recovery mode and it also will connect via ADB. I have tried flashing the UL-ASUS_Z00D-WW-12.16.5.30-user.zip firmware via ADB fastboot but I get an error saying firmware is wrong carrier ATT (WW). Am I using the wrong firmware for AT&T? I have searched all over and cannot find any ZenFone 2 firmware other than WW, TW, and CN. Any help or suggestions much appreciated.

Still no luck. I'm sure if we could find the AT&T firmware we would be able to recover. Unfortunately it appears it is not available on ASUS support and AT&T doesn't even provide firmware. Our only hope may be from a backup of another device that isn't bricked.
Does anybody know if we could possibly use the temporary CWM recovery used in the root method to flash to another ROM that is compatible with this device? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Are there any details I can provide that would be helpful in finding a solution to recover this device? I've seen a few other people are having the same issue as I am and I would like to help them as well if I can get mine fixed. Thanks

Just out of curiosity have you tried running the xoa_unroot.bat while your device is in recovery/fastboot mode? Im not sure if it will help but I've found in other threads that to avoid soft bricking your device you must run the unroot prior to applying the OTA update. I'm sure it's probably too late but maybe worth a shot. I'm going to try it when I get home from work today.

The truth hurts, your screwd. This is a budget phone. At&t will not support it. Throw away device my their standards.

Wait, are you bricked and tried using that as the fix? I cant post links but Check out Asus, They have Firmware, Kernel (havent checked but read it earlier today), and Boot Unlock that you can get right from (assuming you have an account) My Products.
Also... Has anyone used that method recently?
Cathaterfish said:
Sorry I will give credit to DavePmer for his guide in minute, but qouting him for some reason wouldnt let me post, even when I removed the links? anyways I'll edit and give credit I promise
So my phone is stuck on the Asus Logo, I downloaded all of this and followed the instructions all the way up to:
11) now the fun part. open your microsd card and check the folder TWRP\BACKUPS see if it has a folder named
01234567890123456789 if it does great if not, not a problem just copy all the system files from the folder
you extracted TWRP-zf2e-ATT_12.16.10.7 to your microsd card TWRP\BACKUP\01234567890123456789\ whatever folder you have next\ in other words, replace your system.ext4.win000 files with my system.ext4.win000 file.
Replace your system.ext4.win001 with mine, and replace system.ext4.win00.md5 with mine as well as system.ext4.win001.md5 when done safely dismount the microsd card.
It then occurred to me that i should be more careful this time around... This was from October and although I ran across links saying for the most part that this was a good shot for fixing my ZE500CL, Z00D or whatever. But things have changed since then and I was wondering if this is still the best/easiest/safe route. I learned pretty quick that over looking things like OTA/Root or in my case Making assumptions is a fast path to really doing a number on your phone. (Honestly I just started even giving thought to rooting my phone, just considered them back ups I kept in a box). I now have the itch to do this right so hoping to fix this and go about this the right way.
Thanks for any input.
Currently DLing RussaiNBeaR, went and bought a card reader/writer. I was going to Download the firmware, kernel and boot unlock tool but currently staying at a place where im getting 160kbs on my DL's. So if I can get away with davepmer's guide that would be great, or something other or smaller than downloading 4gbs on this Internet Connection.
EDIT: Forgot to add that I haven't completed this step yet because the wording kind of tripped me up. And I want to do this right. When he says "in other words replace your system.ext4.win000 files with my system.ext4.win000 file." and then goes on and 3 more to the list. Does that mean only copy and replace those 4? or does that include all system.(whatever).(extension) files? Im sure it sounds really dumb or noobish but the fact that the next step is using twrp to restore using system only makes me afraid to do this part wrong.

Lenovo ViBE p1 Root

Hi everyone. I am new and I agree that I am complete noob in this field. I have never did any update to my stock vibe p1 ROM because it runs very smoothly and I never encountered a single issue like other users had. Now I want to just Root it but I don't want any upgrades( in terms of version update). I know that this question may have been answered earlier but all the listed method is so confusing. Can anyone please just put the step by step instruction on how to root my vibe p1 and please share the link of the necessary files in this thread. I am sorry for wasting your time but I need to root it to gain access to my network settings. Thanks in advance.

You could tell this important information in your o.p. so we can skip this step.
Now... write here what your system is, like what is written in: Settings/About phone/Device information/Build number.
What you have to do is to read some articles from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/vibe-p1/development/qpst-flashing-vibeui-3-1-s272-rom-t3386650
I think, if you dont know what to do, go to someone who knows and can help you.
Good Luck.

Thanks for reply. That is the exact thing I meant when i called myself noob. My build is p1a_42_s137_151028_ROW. I did mentioned I got confused though I know this is not a new topic. I think the process (in the link) is for upgrades and what I want is just root because I never got a 100% satisfied user after any upgrades let it be via ota(starting with 30mb patch) or custom Row. My handset works perfectly fine. No lag no heating , no battery draining, etc. I want to root because I want to tweak network settings which is not possible with non rooted mode as SQL is not accessable. Sorry i was not able to provide whole info but I truly don't use blogs or social sites so I lack the idea.

Tell me one thing!
When you tried to root your phone with kingo root tool, did you activated USB Debugging option from developer section ?
If not, activate this option from developer option and try again.
To activate this option you must go to : Settings/About phone/Device information/Build number and press fast many times on it till developer tab is activated.
Go to Settings/Developer options and activate the option from there.
Write here what is going on.

Yes sir I did that via USB connect option. Did anyone had success with kingoroot? But they did not mention vibe p1 in their support list. Thanks for quick reply.

you are right the root for this device is not avialable by kingoroot.they r actually working on it , may be in future we will get it.
There is a bootloader lock on the phone. Applications is useless. The bootloader must first be unlocked, or root application must be installed on the rom. The best solution for you is to unlock the bootloader lock and install twrp. Please see the following page:

That entire process is for unlocking the bootloader? Let's say I have done that but how can I get rooted without updating my raw row?

Well I can only say that with my rom 288 the process was If you have already unlocked bootloader is using QFIL and selecting rawprogram_twrp.xml put supersu zip on your sd card boot into twrp recovery and install supersu zip.

It probably works with the qfil file of your same rom. You need to add and flash bootloader files into the same rom(data can be deleted). ROM version is not important for the bootloader file. If the process is successful, you can install twrp and supersu.zip
